We booked a table for my Birthday. Unfortunately, it was at night time so no views but the well-kept interior made up for it. There were a couple of items not available, which was rather annoying, particularly as I would have enjoyed savouring the venison haunch. However, we shall be going up to the Borders at the end of next month where we shall, definitely, some game. The food served was excellent, however, and freshly cooked recognisable by the roast potatoes actually being crisp. The chicken liver paté, which we shared, was homemade and excellent, too, served with a brioche. Sadly, the brioche served was not enough to relish all the paté. The service, at times, was not as prompt as it should have been but this did not spoil our evening of celebration 😀 We shall, certainly, be returning

Great pub with fantastic views , lovely warm atmosphere. We had a great table with good friendly service ….just wish the food could be better. Our nibbles were lovely but the mains were very average . The seafood pasta was way too sweet with a few pieces of fish in a bland sauce. Will be back and hopefully the food tastes as good the beautiful views .

Last minute overnight stay with dinner booked the day before, for my wife and I and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Bit of an issue with my satnav using the postcode, which directed us in a continuous circle around Tattenhall so switched it off. Would have given 5 stars if the person staffing the reception desk had approached and welcomed us immediately instead of washing glasses behind the bar. Only came over once I approached the bar. Room 1 upstairs in converted barn provided fantastic views over the Cheshire plain to Welsh mountains, Chester and Liverpool city buildings. Comfortable bed and peaceful atmosphere provided a lovely sleep. Minus point here was that the water from the shower over bath leaked under glass onto floor and toilet. Very tasty real ales and pinot grigio rosé wine in bar and food and service was excellent. Tasty well-cooked scotch eggs and Big Dog with fries to which I added a tasty salad. Mrs enjoyed olives followed by chicken burger and all were excellent. Too full for desserts. I have since booked dinner for 4 in December. For dog lovers - this is a fully dog friendly pub/hotel.

What a lovely hotel it is a 5 star hotel although the rooms are very small for this rating. When we arrived it was just after lunch and was totally packed so parking was a little hard to find. Now, dinner was really lovely for an inn the food was good and the service exceptional. Breakfast was extraordinary plenty of food of really good quality, Service once again very good

After 20 years of dining at the Pheasant it's sad to see so many poor reviews, and I think I now know why. I visited in March, and had my least best meal in 20 years, and again in August when it was worse. I posted feedback on-line and received an confirming staffing issues in the kitchen, that specials had taken a hit but will be back on the next day. I then replied with the following on 25 August, which has not yet been responded to. Hi India, Thank you for getting back to me although I wasn’t expecting you to justify why our experience was far below anything of the past 20 years. Just to recap. Our scotch eggs were almost burnt and were crunchy as we cut into them. My fish was more than well done, and my chips soggy and warm, not hot and crispy as usual. My wife’s side salad was bland and without dressing, although had she told me I could have asked for some. Service seemed to take an inordinate amount of time and the smashing of crockery coming from the kitchen suggested all was not well. I did wonder at the time if staffing at the required skill level was an issue, which you have confirmed. I mentioned that not everything was evident on the evening and since we had guests at the time didn't wish to spoil their experience. As mentioned, March was our least best experience in over 20 years. At that time some of the specials were unavailable and we were told that a revamp of the menu was imminent, the implication being the reason for the specials being unavailable, it would have been useful to manage our expectations when handing us the menu. On 31 July we were disappointed there were no specials available, but not surprised given the March comments. My feedback said that the menu now resembled any short order menu available in national budget hotel chains, except they have perfected it and charge less. The friends with us were also our guests and they stayed overnight with you. They then went on holiday and I have just spoken to them who gave me the following feedback. My friend’s pie was overcooked and dry as if it had been kept hot for sometime and his chips also soggy. After we left him and his partner around 22:00, they tried to get a nightcap but were told by the guy that he had now cashed up and couldn’t (wouldn’t?) serve them. My friend explained to no avail that they were residents. At that point another guy came from the kitchen, was more helpful and served them. Their room was fine and service the next morning at breakfast was also good. The helpful guy from the previous evening apologised to them for the confusion over their nightcap. He then went on to explain that the owners had now taken a different approach to the business and, for want of a better description, the implication was that they now wished to appeal to a less discerning clientele. This is equally alarming and confusing since it is at odds with your comments that our experience was a one off, but it fits with our experience in March and the pattern now emerging. Especially when compared to the last 20 years when we’ve never been disappointed ever. You apologised for there not being any specials available and was a one off or is it the model going forward. If you could please confirm that our experience on 31 July is what we can now expect across the group this will save us wasting our time and money in the future. So far no response.

We stayed overnight in a lovely room, converted from a stable, I'm guessing, but beautifully done. The staff were all excellent: Friendly and accommodating. I can't fault them. The menu is pub grub, but all done very well, and individually cooked by real chefs, I would say. The breakfast was the best I've had in a while. Lovely bacon, sausages and black pudding. A proper cafetiere full of very good coffee, and room-temperature butter, rather than the frozen lumps of yellow stuff one usually gets. Highly recommended.

Firstly what a lovely setting. Me and my partner both ate here I wouldn't say it was great because it wasn't. I complained to waitress that my chips were hard , they were edible but hard. She came back and said we will take the service charge off. I found this very insulting, I didn't want anything off but she was gladly going to take OUR tipp off. Will not return and would definitely not recommend

It's set in a lovely location ideal for walking, but quite remote. Has a big garden to enjoy the views. Rooms and food were ok, had some food issues but they were resolved. Was disappointment that there was no casual seating area inside only tables laid out for eating. Also that the bar shut early at 10.15! Overall enjoyed the stay but it was overpriced.

Me and my partner always love coming here, but we hadn’t been for food before, we’d normally just get drinks and chat for hours with the stunning view. This time, we took both our parents with us as we were moving away, and wanted a place to have a final family meal so we chose here. The food was immaculate, as expected! So many options for myself as a vegetarian which is highly appreciated as i typically have to make requests elsewhere. Thank you to the Pheasant inn staff too, so much fun, and they really create a great ambience.

We booked for dinner bed and breakfast before going to Chester Races. The room was so lovely, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with a tasteful spacious bathroom and views of the sunset over the Cheshire Plains. The restaurant was comfortable and very dog friendly although we didn't have our furry friend with us, and the delicious menu catered for all tastes. The best bit was yet to come ... the staff were all pleasant and very kind and helpful when our second night accommodation in Chester cancelled with 24 hrs to go - we managed to book another night (we were very lucky as room here at the weekend are like hens teeth) as there had just been a cancellation. Despite having to change rooms to a standard one, the staff sorted everything out, we got a taxi ride into Chester and back and had another lovely evening and delicious breakfast - highly recommended!

We walked in the inn and I asked a guy behind the bar where the gents was, His reply was an abrupt "right in front you". When I went to the bar to order, he just said " tell me!". I wouldn't expect that kind of welcome and if he struggles with English then maybe he should work away from the bar. The young staff were unlike him, very polite.

We booked this through Pets Pyjamas last minute as a couple of nights mid week get-away with our 3 dogs. Not many places allow that many dogs and some charge loads of extra money for the privilege. We couldn't have been more happy with The Pheasant Inn. The room was clean and the decor modern and beautiful. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. The pub decor and atmosphere perfect. The location is amazing and the views stunning. A dog bed, bowls, treats and balls were all provided in the room. We didn't even need to get in the car to go for fantastic long walks with the dogs. We'd definitely go again and recommend to dog owners. (We did pick the cheapest room knowing it was going to be small - it did just about manage to fit 2 humans, 1 medium dog and 2 small dogs in it. Just. It didn't help that the walks were quite muddy but luckily there was a tap to clean the dog with. We took our own towels. Not sure if they provide any dog towels.)

Greatly enjoyed our lunch at this beautiful sandstone inn in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. Welcome was warm and courteous and we were swiftly seated. The menu was extensive and enticing. I chose the steak pie and my wife had the falafel wraps. Both were excellent. The visit was in fact a recce for an overnight visit we plan to make in the summer. Can’t wait to come back, walk the Sandstone Trail and sit on the terrace with a glass of something watching the sun set over the Welsh hills. Many thanks to the delightful staff who turned our lunch into a memorable experience.

WHERE TO START!! What a awful experience, me and my wife decided to treat ourselves for our 8th wedding anniversary, such a shame as the surroundings are beautiful but the staff are incompetent and rude, it appears to be run by children with no idea of how to treat customers, firstly when my wife booked around a month in advance she paid for champagne for our room (which wasn't there). When we asked where it was they couldn't find any record of it, they then asked her to prove it had been pre-paid 🤔 they eventually found proof in a separate system 🤔. They then over charged us by £85 and asked us once again to prove the pre arranged price, so we managed to find it thankfully!! Then during our evening meal they brought the wrong sides and told us it was the right one 🤬. At 10.20pm mysteriously the electric all went off, so no tv no room fan (which I need to help me sleep) and no way to charge our phones. In the morning when we complained to the early shift manager she told us that other guests and staff had complained about us, pretty much called us liar's and we were the problem, we'd been very respectful and polite to all the staff and the people dining. Myself and my wife were both raised with good manners and I believe we handled ourselves with dignity and respect even though this wasn't reciprocated. We've been regular visitors for well over 20 years. Unfortunately due to the staff we will probably never return. Although the reviews look good on the surface, if you look at the lower reviews first you will see a pattern. GOD HELP YOU If you choose to visit, good luck to you all YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

This place is a absolute masterclass in excellence. We stayed here with our pup for one night yesterday. Check in was smooth and efficient. We had lunch by the fire… sausage sandwich which was declared ‘one of the best’ by my husband and a meet in the mouth steak ciabatta..which was unbelievably tasty. For dinner my husband had home made beef and ale pie and chips with the most divine gravy ever and I had haddock, mushy peas, homemade tarter sauce ( which was sublime) and chips. For breakfast we had an amazing full cooked and crumpets, salmon and scrambled eggs..utter bliss. Our room was stunning - large, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and with fantastic outside access to take the pup out. This hotel isn’t just dog tolerant, they LOVE dogs..it was so welcoming for our excitable puppy to have his own really imaginative welcome pack. He loved it, Overall the location, the staff, the chefs, the decor, the service..and the food… were an absolute masterclass in quality, luxurious hospitality excellence…at unmissable value for money. We can’t recommend the Pheasant Inn enough and honestly cannot wait to return.

Friends booked for a lunchtime get together. We’ve been before and thought it was expensive. It’s also quite a drive for us. However, it’s a nice pub in a lovely spot and the visibility was good that day, all the way to the Liverpool skyline. As well as the a la carte menu, there is a new lunch menu at a fixed price, with three starters, mains and desserts. We all chose from this and selected two courses. Everything was nicely cooked and presented, the portions were quite small but keenly priced compared to the main menu and we had enough for a lunchtime. Service was efficient and friendly and we agreed to retain the service charge which was explained as being optional but probably already on the tab. There are a few road closures in the vicinity and some Satnav anomalies so it pays to check your route before setting out.

This is the quintessential English country inn, with oak beams, open fires, a selection of real ales and a great welcome. Rural and rustic it maybe, but rough and ready it most certainly isn't. We had a courtyard room which was beautifully presented with fittings and furnishings of the highest standard, and a very comfortable bed. The dinner menu catered for all tastes, from pub grub favourites to seasonal fine dining. Both the venison and the pheasant breast were cooked to perfection with some very imaginative additions from the chef. Who'd have thought that a cheese and leek mini pie, along with pickled black berries would go with pheasant? Trust me on this - it works! The staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast all you'd expect from a place of this quality. The wine list had something for all palates at prices which weren't unreasonable for what was on offer. In terms of price, most people would probably regard this as a special occasion indulgence, but I doubt you'd be disappointed.

Table reserved for dinner for two persons. Smart friendly service, cocktails served in good order. Choose nibbles and main with sides of mash, minted peas. Duck breast for savoury and goats cheese for veggie. Food was served in good time and was truly scrumptious.

As always, we had an excellent evening meal as part of our overnight package. The staff members are efficient, friendly and welcoming. The food is nothing short of superb, in presentation, taste, quality and value. There's a good wine selection as well!

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!

Have been going to this cafe for years and have always received excellent service and food, the staff work so hard yet always manage to be friendly and have a smile for you, the food is great and really good value for money.

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

I come to Chester for work and stopped off at the Peacock for a Sunday roast, I was blown away by how nice the beef was and the staff who served were amazing and very polite. A 10/10 experience I would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future for more roast dinners
