Bears Paw in Cheshire West and Chester

Visited on the eve of bank holiday Monday. Lovely looking pub with a nice atmosphere but food was dire. Unsure of they were coming off the back of a super busy bank holiday weekend but after a 45 minute wait the 'rare' steak was like shoe leather, fish and chips was super greasy and chicken burger tasteless. But i get the food is cheap. Some staff were nice but asking for cutlery to eat the food with seamed like a massive chore. Wouldn't eat there again but would go for a pint

Bought 2 burger meals both burgers were burnt black the easiest thing to cook plus ordered cheese garlic bread that come out without the underneath off the bread cooked need to sort your chef out definitely wouldn’t recommend going for food 🤮

Went today and was surprised to find they now do a happy hour which is actually 4p.m to 7p.m where most drinks were buy 1 get 1 free, I think it was the manageress who served us and she was fantastic as a trainee took our order and didn't put it through properly but the lady apologised and gave us another 2 pints for the inconvenience!

My recent experience at Bears Paw Frodsham Cheshire was extremely disappointing Some of the meals were served cold One of the meals was over cooked. The food quality made it the worst dinner experience I’ve ever had.

You get what you pay for. Typical american burger and fries-type menu. Dirty tables with wet drink rings and smeared with ketch up , and dishes left on others. Very busy, mainly with drinkers and younger couples eating. Staff were as helpful as possible but were rushing around.

Trying to use the Green King app for 10% deduction waste of time because was never activated

Just stopped in for a quick quick as had an hour to fill before going on elsewhere. Good service. Good friendly atmosphere.

Food wasn't the best carrots rock hard ,cauliflower very mushy ,Yorkshire pud was soggy ,frozen roasties that were pale and not crispy ,no peas and no mint sauce and for the price paid was very disappointing, gravy was nice but stone cold ,on the plus side the staff here are lovely and if they had a better chef it could be great

Had a great full English and It was anmazing . a young handsome gentleman by the name of Rowan served me, he was polite and had a very very cute smile!

Average pub food, average beer choice, could be a lot cleaner

One star because I cannot give -9. On arrival no. Meet and greet. We was ignored for 10 minutes at the bar escorted to the wrong table with the wrong table number then ordered online to find out the beer we asked for. I'm booked and paid for. Was not available then we were told off by the waitress that we were on the wrong table which she took us to table 16 which turned out to be table 22. Not our fault. The food arrived before any drinks . We was overcharged for. And have not been refund of £0.65 are still not returned to me 7 days later.

Not changed in months pints stink and are flat the pub sinks close it down till some one clean will take it on , because this place is terrible

Used to absolutely love this place & would go out of my way on a regular basis to have a pint/food there, but sadly lately it's gone downhill dramatically. Appalling service by rude bar staff. And unfortunately the situation regarding dogs & their obnoxious/irresponsible owners has become intolerable !!! AVOID AT ALL COST....

Not enough staff for a busy pub Saturday afternoon

Waited an hour and a half for our meal when it came it was Luke warm . Very disappointed with it . Would not go there again , we were looking forward to a nice meal .

Absolute nightmare, arrived to be ignored on arrival , we had our table pre booked. Ordered but was then advised they had no chips. Asked for garlic bread .... they didn't have that either. Was told we could have onion rings but that would cost extra. Forgot to bring our drinks over then brought them over without a glass for one drink. Food came was dry and tasteless with rocket dumped on the side. Only positive was the full refund. Won't return nor recommend , so terrible it became funny even though you had ruined a family meal !! Avoid at all cost

We booked a table for 12 people for a friends birthday. When we arrived it was so busy but we eventually got to the bar and asked for our table. The member of staff found us on the system but then sighed and walked away. 10 mins later he came back and said they have no tables but he would try and find one. After numerous staff looking round, we were left standing at the end of the bar with no where to go and no communication with what was going on. 15 mins later we were then pointed to a table that could fit 5 people but not the rest which we obviously were not happy about. Again 10 mins later we were then informed by the same member of staff that they had not reserved us a table and there was no room and not much they could do and just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Another member of staff overheard and said she would go and get someone. Another lady appeared and we explained the situation and she checked the system and saw our table was booked for only 10 people not 12 but said there was no table reserved for us but she would try and sort it. They said to us they could kick people off tables if we wanted which we felt awkward about but we said if they didn’t mind if they had not booked as we had had the table reserved for over a month. They asked some people to move and shoved us together on 5 makeshift round tables with some stools - again 2 seats short which we had to find ourselves in a very busy pub. After all of this, we tried to order on the app which was down so had to wait for 10 minutes at the bar to order and eventually got our food an hour later. It was a very tight fit and not all of the plates could fit on the table so some people had to put things on their knees! The food was nice but overall an unpleasant evening and was a very stressful and awkward experience, not a great way to spend a birthday.

Love the bears paw, food is fantastic. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are always very helpful and friendly.

I have visited the Bears Paw for years, but the last two visits have been very disappointing. Greene King has taken away the atmosphere and specialness of this pub. The staff behind the bar were very slow to acknowledge customers. It wasn't particularly busy, but food service was very slow. Food when it arrived was average, but we'd also ordered the Thursday Steak special, which was fatty and chewy. I'm glad it wasn't the original price, as I would have really complained. I gave the place the benefit of the doubt after our last visit, thinking it was just an off day, but today it was just the same. There's definitely better places to eat in Frodsham, and better pubs.

Myself and daughter visited today ordered 2 sirloin steaks costing near £40 we couldn't eat meal as it was discusting so only had chips. Very disappointed with the food served to us so won't be visiting again for food.

Pub was very grubby, tables needed cleaning and chair upholstery was filthy. Most of the staff were nice, except for someone who looked like could be a Manager who totally ignored me at the bar. Wouldn't go there again.

Very slow service for drinks and staff appear sullen. Suspect it's under new management, definitely not as good as it was.

Although previously had a good meal and service, we eventually walked out, after several members of staff walking past and not serving any drinks, when not especially busy. Hopefully just a blip, and short staffed, as only 3 months ago it was 5 star.

An outstanding frontage that opens directly to the bar. The staff are solid, but looked a little fraught. Food menu items were not available so we are elsewhere. Having to pay immediately, rather than establish a tab suggests that this is a high traffic, trade pub. Not somewhere I could recommend for a relaxing lunch.

This was an extremely disappointing experience. The food was sub standard and cold. The service was severely lacking for a particularly quiet time of the day. Will not return.

Oh how this place has fallen. Scruffy pub and ill mannered bar staff who knows nothing about the beer. We ordered food and told there was a 30 minute wait and an hour and 15 minutes later we had not received any food. This was despite being told it was being plated up 20 minutes before hand.

Good atmosphere but lacking foods was poor ordered chicken and it was rubbery ordered via the app and still had to go up to the bar after waiting half an hour they'd still not served them, when I asked for them they seemed surprised I wanted them.

Attended a birthday party as a guest, I'm not sure if this pub has changed hands but I think the quality of buffet food and the bar service leave a lot to be desired. It would seem that the party catering is being operated by people who have had no training and or experience whatsoever. The whole experience was a big let down.

It's a great local pub, parties meet ups and locals all the same. Food is generic pub grub, service cancelled be slow.

Food was not cooked but cremated. Ordered a lasagna which came with a black top. Ordered fish and chips again batter was burnt. Staff were not interested when told. You pay when you order so getting a refund is not easy. I would not recommend this place for food. However if you want to watch the football this is the place. TV in every area of the pub.

Saturday Lunch time. Terrible food, no milk so couldn't have tea or coffee and staff told us they were not allowed to go out and get some, tables not cleared, definitely under staffed, very disappointing.

We held our wedding reception in the barn , it was the perfect size for our small party x staff were so good food was amazing . On the build up the staff were so helpful putting up woth my 1000's of questions ! Could not fault the service xx

Lovely pub with a good atmosphere. Sadly, the burger served to me today was thin, black, crispy and burnt. It was so burnt that I was able to snap it in half! They very happily replaced it of course, but what got me is that the person who cooked it considered it acceptable to serve it up. That's worrying.

Meat to is a bit raw, I prefere it to be well done, the old way.

It is really expensive for a pint here and the place is a bit of a faded lady - in desperate need of a decent clean and lick of paint everywhere. Aside from the lovely frontage and hanging baskets, sorry to say it is a really scruffy pub with terrible food (if it’s not deep fried it’s not served here). All the front outside tables have cigarette burns and need replacing - outside at the back is worse. This should be Frodsham’s flag ship pub given its prime location but it is in desperate need of some TLC and a complete makeover.

I wish I'd read the reviews before going to this pub. I had the chicken shawarma, my second choice as they'd run out of fish?? The miniscule bits of chicken probably added to about an ounce, maybe two but no more. Three pieces of tomato, lettuce and smothered in mayo made it look more. The flatbread was like rubber. We both asked for a pint of lime & soda, we were told they didn't have it. What pub doesn't have lime & soda! So I had a glass of lemonade, that cost £4!! Needless to say we won't be returning.

Decent little pub, good prices and standard pub grub which went down a treat, ample parking, friendly staff and nice area

We have great memories from this pub but the experience last night wasn’t good. Very busy pub on Friday night and the staff behind the bar couldn’t seem less fussed about trying to serve customers efficiently (about 15 mins standing at the bar looking at very relaxed staff). My partner pointed out the tap of Lilley’s cider asking for a pint, instead she was brought a drink from the kitchen which was served in room temperature. Both our drinks were served in plastic cups, despite huge number of glasses were left in beer garden ready to be tidied up and washed. £11.95 for 2 pints. Disappointing.

Sat on a sunny day in the beer garden..used the app to order and was told by app server she seen the drinks order with food but left it as cba pouring the long glasses. Told she would bring straight out when she had passed daughters food. Still waiting 30 mins later so went in to ask and the girl was hiding in the back as she didn't want to pour it. Another girl actually had to pour an bring out. Disgusting service but not surprised as the original server spent most of the time swearing about being left on her own to do orders from 12 and slating the manager to all customers in beer garden . I'd recommend you change your staff before you lose customers.

The Bear's Paw Pub in Frodsham offers a traditional pub atmosphere that's undeniably charming. The interior is cozy and inviting, with classic pub decor that transports you back to simpler times. We came here last year and was so disappointed as from the outside it looked like a lovely pub. We found it filthy and understaffed with mucky plates on the tables inside. We have returned this year in the hope it has gotten better to find it worse than ever. We sat in the raised beer garden to start but it was like sitting in an ashtray with cigarette butts and food covering the floor underneath all the tables plus the cushions on the benches were absolutely filthy. We then moved to the grassed area which was much cleaner and ordered 4 drinks using the GK app. We were the only people outside yet we waited, waited and waited. After approx 15 mins my dad went into the pub to see where our drinks were. There was one member of staff behind the bar and approximately 10 customers eating/drinking inside. My dad asked where our drinks were that he had ordered and paid for to be told "oh I don't know". He then walked over to a printer and removed a slip of paper and then proceeded to make our drinks. If he hadn't have gone in to ask I dread to think how long we would have been waiting outside. This establishment clearly still has a staffing issue as the whole time we were there the male was on his own in the bar. So disappointing for us and we will not be giving it a third chance. It's just filthy and poor service. GK could really do with visiting this place as it is well below par of their other establishments.

Nice looking pub and good choice of drinks even though they were dear but so messy. The staff weren't rushed off their feet and the tables were full of glasses and dirty. The food was basic and took a while to come out. Only 1 young man was hardworking, he had darker hair and shorter. The toilets were blocked with tissue paper. Bit run down.

The staff on duty were genuinely so rude. Ordered food - 8 chicken strips and it came with Texan bbq Ordered two buttermilk burgers that should have come with Texan bbq but no sauce was provided. Asked for the missing sauce and the staff member provided normal BBQ. Mrs queried this and he said that's what it is. So I showed him the difference between Texan bbq and normal BBQ. The attitude of both staff members (one was a duty manager) was absolutely horrendous. Rude, ignorant and completely unapologetic. If an apology would have been issued there wouldn't be a need for a negative review but it just shows the lack of care that the staff have and complete contempt for the paying customer.

Booked a table first time in this pub I thought by booking a table it would be table service which it was not so fair enough order at the bar when you go to the bar it's absolutely packed so ended up ordering on the app food was nice for what we ordered didn't even get shown to our table was just told the number and basically told to crack on just wish when we went in first the girl could of told to order on the app for quickness would of saved me 10 minutes at the bar before a local lady told me there was a app

Nice pub, friendly staff, not overly priced with good food. Lots of screens too if there's sport on.

Lovely pub and the outside seating with the televisions is a great addition, especially in the summer. My complaint is the price they charge for food compared to what you actually get. £3:20 for what amounted to approx 20 chips in a bowl the size of an ashtray is, in my opinion, nothing short of ripping off customers. Like I said, lovely pub though.

Absolutely gorgeous beer garden on lots of levels . Enjoyed sitting having a drink . Inside looked beautiful. Georgia was so lovely, really helpful, very friendly. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. My husband had Mac and cheese ( his favourite) He left half as it was hard . So would we go again , yes but not for food which was a shame

i asked for one million beers and i didn’t get it.

I don’t really know where to start,went to order some small plates to be told a lot of them weren’t available,so ordered 2 of the ciabatta’s,when they arrived I asked the guy who plonked them on our table where were the roasted peppers and onions they should of been served with to be told they’d run out of peppers and onions as they had been busy over the weekend,we were there Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 there is a Morrisons directly opposite!A nice pub with a good outside area but staff couldn’t give 2 hoots shame really as if it was run correctly it would be a cracking place,Greene King you need to sort this out,also they have a 5 star hygiene rating inside looked clean outside the tables were dirty menu’s were dirty & sticky, majority of ashtrays hadn’t been emptied or cleaned the toilet although clean had a leak coming from bottom of it ,will not be returning,I fact it’s put us off going to a Greene King again.

Standard of this pub has gone down hill! Tables full of empty glasses and dirty tables in the middle of the day when pub isn’t busy. Food just chain place. Would choose to come here just came in passing

Filthy, place. Cought the staff smoking in the spare building outside. There was a huge smelly pile of rubbish in the carpark which was horrible to walk pass

Lovely pub - smashing food - great atmosphere-staff couldn't be nicer espically Ollie who was very charming and hardworking. Food big portions and you really do get value for money - very tasty and full of flavour. The beer garden is also lovely with televisions outisde to watch the football and great music playing in the evenings. I've also attended a pub quiz there which was very good fun and the staff were very helpful bringing our candles and cake for my friends birthday. Will definitely be returning and the added bonus there is parking on site with a £1 donation to charity. Overall 10/10.

Came here for dinner, the venue is really lovely, smashing outside area with outdoor heating, what a great thing to have. Staff were friendly, saw two young lads laughing and joking, messing around together who were a really cute pair, an they both checked on my food which was attentive, and sorted my issue with the sauce without any bother. I didn’t get anyone’s name but the lads both had ear rings, and I was served at the bar by a polite lady with what I think was an American accent. Food was average, steak was over cooked but it wasn’t bad and we both finished are food. Price was okay but on the whole drinks were lovely, the gin is VERY reasonably priced, I would come back.

Love the Bears Paw. Come here a couple of times a week, quiz night on a Tuesday is fab!. Out with family tonight and had a meal...absolutey gorgeous! I had Katsu curry, lovely. My family had the small plates and there wasn't a scrap left, lovely. Highly recommend for food and a good night out!

Came here on Frodsham market day Thursday walked around the stalls and had a nice lunch. Good value too. We were able to park the car at the pub for £2 which goes to charity

Found this place avoiding traffic on motorway, good food good price plus they had a two main meal deal so it was even cheaper , have save this place on maps, good stop on way to Wales or back

Great classic English pub! We went here with the family. I wasn’t sure about bringing young kids into a pub, but we weren’t the only family there. Food was really good and decently priced. The kids each ordered off the kid menu and loved the chips! I got a pint of one of the cask ales and the wife got a fruity cider. Our server, Emma, was friendly and helpful! We didn’t know what to order and she gave great recommendations! Cheers! Can’t wait to come back!

Has a lovely catch up with friends for lunch today Monday . Jack looked after us and nothing was too much trouble for him . It was quiet but never the less a good place to come

Visited today, beer quite expensive at £4.95. Only one Amber beer on sale, 2 other pumps not on. Bar staff denied there was a loyalty card until manager fetched some, not sure if its a training issue

Lovely pub with nice surroundings, but food and drink very expensive

The service was a bit slow, but no worse than you would expect on a Saturday afternoon and the fact it was sunny didn't help them either with the amount of people there, but the drinks were reasonably priced and all came in the proper glasses which doesn't always happen at other places.

Service, food, and beer were all top-notch, still the excellent same.

Popped in for a meal. Cisy atmosphere, with excellent service, good food, with good prices. Parking close by, and cheap. Would recommend. And go again.

Our LGBT Walking group Outdoor lads recently visited here and sadly we're left a little disappointed on multiple things. Service was very slow 40 mins for a cuppa. Unfizzy cola which they did change for us but sadly same issue after something was off. My meal was fine but other members expressed disappointment. Some facilities were out of order. Parking was great. And staff were polite and pleasant. Sadly just odd issues left us abit meh.. the place was busy but layout walking to bar as you walk in from back was like walking over people bit cramped. Sadly one or two said they wouldn't attend again.
