Excellent early evening meal, the belly pork was delicious and ribeye steak very tasty. Chips were the best, golden and crisp outside, light and fluffy inside. Service is always friendly and welcoming. The chilli con carne is a great warmer in this cold weather

Great pub with a cosy atmosphere. Came here mid week for a catch up with a mate. Quite busy for midweek, but our experience was overall very good. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Menu had a good variety of classic dishes and their own specials. When it arrived, the food was plentiful, fresh and tasty. I'll definitely some here again.

Extremely upset! Booked a family lunch for 14 people, with 3 weeks notice to celebrate my son's 21st Birthday. Only to turn up today to find only 3 small tables had been reserved with not enough space or seats for everyone to sit let alone eat. We were told there was no where to move us too except to the outside seating areas, or we could wait until the other 5 diners had finished and have their tables, (but had to leave by 4pm and this was at 2:30). 3 of these people had only just started their main meal. We declined both offers as even with heaters we did not want to sit outside and it was unrealistic to expect us all to have ordered and eaten 2 courses by 4pm. The manager was called and was totally unapologetic and made me feel I was being unreasonable expecting enough space to have been reserved. I was told we could all eat in the space provided as they usually fit this many people in this space. When I mentioned it was booked for a 21st I was told people have birthdays everyday and that it was irrelevant that we booked 3 weeks earlier. He did say that we could have a discount if we stayed but this was pointless as there was not enough space or time to enjoy a meal. To say I am upset is an understatement we had this planned for months paid for taxis so we could all celebrate together only to be left extremely disappointed. We will not be back.

Turned up to our booking bang on time, was then told to wait by the bar where we were stood completely in the way of everybody, we were then showed to our table, food arrive fast but unfortunately there was long brown hair in my girlfriends food (she’s blonde) I then brought this up to a member of staff who took the hair looked and it and said “can’t even see anything” with a terrible attitude we then said we don’t want the meal replacing as we had been put off for Linda to then mutter something under her breath as she walked off, absolutely no customer service in that place whatsoever.

Found this little pub by chance, really good food and a home made rice pudding that I remember as kid, nice atmosphere,and the staff were really friendly, tried to back again but fully booked and no room at the inn, gutted.

Gorgeous old fashioned little pub but sadly the food was a real let down. Very soggy batter on the fish, staff very unpleasant, no sense of customer care. Very disappointing indeed

Sunday 29th great day "my birthday" recommended by very close friends Mary & Doug , wish they had told us a lot earlier, when we entered The White Lion you can feel the welcome then the aroma fresh cooked food, all 9 of us said this is a real country Pub in every sense of the word, 9mains 9 sweats later a few drinks unbeatable. We are from York and come to visit family over this side of the country, always come here, great food and great real ales, sad I missed the Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, my fav. Lovely owners and Tyla and the other staff looked after us amazingly. We will be back.

For such a lovely pub. The owner is sadly very rude and abrupt. I asked where the toilets where to be told sharply and abruptly they are down there. Felt like I was disturbing her time with her friends. Very cold and ignorant lady

I had a lovely meal with my partner and two children. All the staff and our servers, (Donna and Dawn), where more than helpful with our two children, splitting their 'kids meal' in half and bringing it out on two separate plates when we only ordered one meal for them to share due to them being young and only needing small portion sizes. This sounds trivial but NEVER happens whenever we go out to eat and were usually left to split it ourselves. Service was very fast and the food was delicious,well presented great portions with good variety of fresh seasonal veg and extras. We ordered the sunday lunch. Overall, a really lovely experience and we will definitely be returning.

Completely and utterly saved. From walking in to the busy full of laughter pub we were welcomed in. They were absolutely heaving with no tables but after a quick explanation of where we were staying they found us room. We ordered food and were served with in 15 mins, and very meal was delicious and home cooked. Thankyou so much wish we had found you sooner x Jay, Amy, Lilly and Poppy xx

Lovely traditional pub selling fine ales . We had the Burger specials and I can thoroughly recommend the food here. My veggie burger was delicious and tasty, my partner had the loaded burger and said it was amazing- burger, pulled pork, bacon, bbq sauce, cheese, onion rings and salad served with chips or fries. Great portions at a very reasonable price. Service was excellent and with a smile! Highly recommended.

Wow! What a wonderful night. 12 of us went for a meal for my husbands 60th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble for all staff. Donna was truly amazing. She made us all feel very welcome and really did look after us well. The food was fantastic. I had the pie, beautiful!! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all their food. I would definitely recommend The White Lion in Childer Thornton. Thank you so much to everyone who made my husbands 60th very special indeed. We will be back very soon ❤️ x

Came to celebrate husbands new job. The Silton/mushroom pot with warm bread was rated as the best starter he'd ever had in his life. The 2 for £30.00 sirloin steak dinners were cooked perfect (rare and medium). Such good value for money. Speedy, friendly service and food was piping hot. Highly recommended 👌

We all visited The White Lion after a family gathering on Friday 19th July 2024 and what a warm welcome we received from Donna and all of the team. The food was excellent, the black pudding stack with peppercorn sauce was delicious and the fish and chips were done to perfection. Sorry I cannot recall chef's name but you did a fantastic job, everything was piping hot and very tasty. Thank you all.

Beautiful little pub, very cosy and popular with the locals. Food was amazing and Donna and her team were amazing, all so friendly and couldn't fault the service from anyone. Highly recommend for a perfect local pub, with amazing food, great drinks, wonderful staff and the locals were welcoming as well.

Decent Sunday Roast Beef dinner

When we arrived at the pub for Sunday lunch we were rudely told to wait by the owner. She put her hand in Front of my face and said ‘wait, I’ll be with you in a minute’ I couldn’t believe the way she spoke to us, the restaurant was really busy and they looked stressed but it’s still no excuse to speak to a customer like that. Food was very average, a lot of it looked to be microwaved. The steak pie was awful, no flavour and very mushy in texture. We had heard great reviews about this place but honestly the owner made us feel so uncomfortable and the standard of food for a Sunday was very poor.

We popped in for Sunday lunch in the way to wales two Sundays ago and was greeted by a friendly man with a Scottish accent. We hadn’t booked and he explained that they were extremely busy that day but if we would be happy to take a seat in the bar and he would look at juggling things around to squeeze us in for an hour (he could have easily turned us away) We used to come all the time when we lived in the area but hadn’t been in 12th years. He got us a table in 10 minutes and looked after us, the food was extremely tasty and really prompt service from all the friendly staff considering how busy it was. Never got the chance to thank him properly for squeezing us in. We booked for last Sunday on our way home from wales and again the experience was fantastic.

We called in to The White Lion without pre booking in the hope they could fit us in. On arrival we were greeted by Donna who immediately found us a table and told us about the specials on offer. We had a couple of questions about various menu items and nothing was too much trouble for Donna and the team. In no time we had drinks in hand and were choosing our options for dinner. The service was warm and friendly, and everything was done at just the right pace. The food arrived at the table quickly and we were not disappointed. From starters to dessert everything just flowed. The food was lovely and the balance between homemade and eating out felt just right. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back soon. Thanks to all.

Attended for Sunday lunch 2/6/24 and was extremely disappointed. Booked a table and was seated straight away which was great but everything was very rushed. Didn't even get time to look at the menu before they wanted to take food order. Had to ask for a few minutes and the food was sub par. The cauliflower cheese was awful and the beef was packet meat, I know that as we was sat right by the kitchen and could see the chef taking it out the packets and putting it on plates while drinking his pint of beer that was dripping down his chin and he would wipe away with his hand all with no gloves on. Waitress tried to take plates before we had even finished - only put my fork down to take a sip of drink! Again didn't get any time to look at dessert menu before they asked our order, this happened twice, and twice had to ask for time. Apple crumble had no flavour at all, just tasted of boiled apples. Asked for the bill and this was the only time we actually had to wait. Not sure if we will return again. Never had a bad meal here before but this really put us off

Traditional olde pub, great on summer days for a relaxing pint in the garden. Service a bit slow even when not busy but nice atmosphere.

Beautiful pub supported by a wonderful staff who made you feel like you lived there. Excellent roast dinner and dessert for £15pp ....I've told all my family already and can't wait to visit again.

First time visit for 3 of us. Recommended by our older Sister who has been before and it didn't disappoint. Food and service were excellent. We will be back again on our next visit to the Wirral.

If you like smash, aunt Bessie's frozen potatoes and sliced beef straight out of a packet then Sunday lunch here might be for for. Personally I expected better. Been here lots of times and the food was good. However I couldn't have been more disappointed last Sunday. Truelly awful Sunday lunch. I honestly expected better from The White Lion.

Absolutely unbeatable food & service in a warm homely atmosphere

We popped to The White Lion for lunch as we were working in the area for the day. It’s now my favourite pub! It just has everything. We received the warmest welcome and had the tastiest food I’ve had in years! I had the beef and onion sandwich with a side of gravy and chips. Oh my god the chips!!! I could write poems about them. Donna (the nicest host in the world) gave me a box to take my leftovers in, the portions are so generous. And it’s really reasonably priced too. We had lovely chats with super friendly locals in the cosy bar, there was also an outside seating area. I’ll definitely be back for an evening meal and drinks even though it’s an hour away! Thanks so much

Visited here for my daughter's birthday with a party of 11. Landlady was very welcoming and ensured we all had drinks and our food came within good time and all together, so none of us were left waiting whilst others ate. The children were well catered for, with their meals free. No complaints about the food, which everyone enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Do not attempt to dine during busy periods. Rude and stressed staff together with foul tasting beer (end of barrel apparently) and savage service resulted in a one time only visit to what we first thought was a Karen's Diner. Struggling to understand the 5 star reviews as our experience certainly did not reflect that.

We popped in for food without a booking and the helpful staff managed to squeeze us in despite it being busy. The food was heavenly, we normally don't bother with starters or deserts but we had all three courses and they were incredible. Lovely place, very warm and inviting.

Lovely meal with friends...Chicken Tika curry was scrummy. Staff are very welcoming and friendly and it's somewhere we like to visit for a catch up.

Been here many times for years. Took my daughter for her birthday 6 of us. Daughter and I had belly pork had it before many times, usually delicious.absolutely vile nothing but fat horrible greasy taste left in my mouth. Bad service.puddings left on the table waiting for custard to be microwaved.Had to send meals back. had a word with landlord for a small refund, of which he took offence and argued with me, when I answered back and walked away him and a female shouting and arguing back at me. I have never heard anything like it in my life.I think he then banned me although I said I will never go back. What happened to the customer is always right 🤔

Tuesday is Curry night and for the 2nd time we’ve had a really good meal, plentiful and tasty. Highly recommend it!

Ordered cheese burger and a veg burger and 2 kids meals cheese burger was raw inside and veg burger had a hair in it would not recommend eating here after not paying for our food they insisted on us paying for drinks to be honest I will not be going there again unless the management changes

Just come back home from this establishment .Three of us had beer battered cod.The batter was soft & gooey,the chips were dry& also didn't like the attitude of the staff, when I told the boy there how our meal was, he just laughed, he had no interest at all.Never again.Disgusting. £46.50 down the drain.Avoid at all costs.

Iv been coming here for many years with freinds and family , just love the place and all the lovely staff.

We are staying at the premier Inn nearby and came here to eat as the food at the premier inn is terrible. It was also my wife's birthday. All I can say is wow! All 7 of us had perfect meals. Really good home cooked piping hot food. It was just a lovely experience from start to finish. Donna was so kind and welcoming and funny too. We had a great laugh and were made to feel at home.the pub is a little gem . Nice open fires and flagged floors we were sad when the meal was over. Lovely hand cut thick chips, fantastic steak pie, home made curry and the best rice pudding ever. Don't go anywhere else, eat here and let Donna and Tina look after you! Thanks again white lion .x

5 of us went on a Thursday night, absolutely superb food and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, 4 of us had the Rib-eye and we all enjoyed our meals very much, one person had the chicken vindallo and he loved it and couldn’t believe how much chicken there was, we will definitely be going back again….. thanks to all the staff who were fab

Food good and a cosy atmosphere

Came for my mother's 65th birthday on Thursday evening and wow I was very impressed with the pub what a gorgeous place, we was greater by Donna who was fantastic very engaging and down to earth. We all had starters black pudding stack mushrooms fishcake and prawn cocktail for the birthday girl she was very impressed with the amount if prawns, my Stilton mushrooms where unreal I had a ribeye for main which again was unreal cooked to perfection. The kids had chips cheese and gravy and loved every bit with ice cream after. Unfortunately we never had any room left for dessert but will deffo be back for the famous roast they do and hopefully fit a dessert in then.

Working away and found this little gem. Had a great meal and a few pints. Staff are really friendly. It's like a home from home. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

I went along with 3 friends and our booked table was not suitable but Donna very seamlessly moved us to a more suitable one. I had steak pie with chips and veg and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Very tasty and a reasonable price too.

Nice pub with friendly staff and good Guinness. The curry of the day was excellent in a home cooked old school way, as was the home made rice pudding. Enjoyed it so much went back the following night and had the same again!

First time going to this pub, very enjoyable and the food was very good.

Quirky little pub with lots of character. Gammon was thin but very big, cooked properly with a perfect fried egg. Their chips are wonderful - crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. I'll go back again : )

Visit here quite regularly now. Food always very freshly cooked, good ingredients never disappoints. Always excellent service by the very pleasant staff. Highly recommended.

Been here many times but this visit not so good for me personally. Was quite amazed that the coffee machine looked old and uninviting and no oat milk to offer at all. I swerved as I really fancied just coffee and cake and ended up with a shandy and pate.. which was very little and too much price wise. Lovely pub for the locals .. but maybe a bit more Tlc from the lady who served us, I noted the customer service awards … maybe she was not feeling great that day.

Belting ol' English pub. Food is hearty and made to a very high standard. Beer has always been kept to a high standard for as long as I can remember. Lovleh staff. Nice n cosy. Never change!
