Thornton Lodge Fayre and Square Restaurant in Wyre

Not been for a while and decided to call in tonight for Sunday dinner. Can only describe it as the best Sunday dinner We have had out this year! Attentative staff,excellent service. Well done.

Came here a few days ago and will 100% be returning. Staff was so friendly and nothing was too trouble for them. Our food was amazing, came out very quick and was very hot. Thankyou

After visiting another Chef and Brewer not far away I thought I would try here. I have to say it was equally as good. I was greeted with a big smile from a staff member as soon as I walked in. The decor wasn't as nice but the food was equally as good. I had mushrooms to start and my partner had squid and we both opted for a rump steak for our main course, it was cooked to perfection I honestly couldn't fault it. Neither had room for dessert but I saw another customers toffee pudding which looked yummy. A lovely evening with lovely service and food. Highly recommend.

The staff were very attentive and recommended alternative items when they had run out of certain meals. Some would say running out of food and drink is bad planning however it shows that good food gets eaten and can be popular. The alternatives were very acceptable. Quantity and quality were right and we were not rushed.

We have been to Thornton Lodge many times for dinner and so for a change, tried the breakfast.. we were not disappointed ! It was delicious, well presented and plenty of it! Service again, was of a high standard and attention to detail spot on. We have tried other pubs in the area and Thornton Lodge is by far the best for quality of food, and exceptional staff who always go the extra mile for you. We look forward to our Christmas dinner at Thornton Lodge! Thank you Donna and Ben for the great breakfast.

A belated Birthday meal. We we pleased with choice of Menu The ambience and likewise the Staff were attentive without being overbearing. The meals we had were both Fish courses and we commented to the Staff what quality they were

Food okay but not brilliant. Soup should be served with the bloomer bread as stated and not sourdough toast. The croutons were also made from the same sourdough bread and were huge. These were not croutons. We were told that the food spec in the kitchen stated toasted bread although the menu stated boomer bread and no mention of being toasted. The salmon fish cake was nice but, not so sure it required a poached egg. Salad could have been fresher. We will be back at some point though and hopefully a better experience will be achieved. Finally, the young lady who served us was very attentive and helpful, sadly I didn’t get her name.

Once again the food was outstanding these boys know how to cook food specially fish , the service was quick and they were attentive from start to finish but best of all , sticky toffee pudding , nothing else to be said . Keep it Thornton Lodge the kirkham otter loves it 👏👏👏

Called in for a light meal between games. I had chicken strips. They looked overcooked. Not a lot of chicken mostly crunchy outside. About 7/8 pieces but quite small in size. Dip was nice. A small pot of tea provided about 1 and half average tea cups and cost £3. Thought that was dear. The service was very good,food arrived promptly.

Felt very uncomfortable around staff flirting around one another. One older male member of staff bit and kissed one of the younger females arm. Then continued to follow her around. Then decided to blow his nose directly next to our table into a napkin which he just shoved into his pocket to then use it later on. Then proceeded to very noisily start messing with cutlery banging away. Food was a 3 out of 5 due to stake being tough. This will definitely be my first and last time here! Would definitely not recommend

We have visited now for breakfast and lunch and both times were absolutely lovely. Staff very genuine, professional and friendly. Food lovely, fresh and exceeded expectations of pub grub. Dog was also welcome with plenty of space in the bar area not to feel conscious of him encroaching on other guests. The place itself is also beautifully presented and well kept. Looking forward to going back for a Sunday roast.

Great service from Donna and the bar staff , lovely food and welcoming atmosphere . Dog friendly, little doggie treats as you arrive which is a nice touch Nicely laid out with separate restaurant area but eating in the bar also available. Plenty to choose from on the menu . Ample parking and what looked like a walking route right next to the pub . Well worth a visit if you are in the area !

Décor pleasing relaxed atmosphere staff attentive to needs of customers food well presented and tasty area for eating well spaced out so don't feel overcrowded.

Went in to get some lunch after a walk down skippool with the dog and WOW I was not disappointed! I had the salmon fish cake off the lunch menu, salmon was fresh and poached egg was cooked to perfection. My partner had the steak sandwich he thoroughly enjoyed and great size portion for the price. I would highly recommend a visit - great food, beautifully decorated, pleasant staff and dog friendly. We will 100% be back Thank you Thornton lodge and team!

We gave up on this place because the service was so bad. Then they got a new guy in to run the restaurant and it improved greatly. Now it's back to square one if not worse. Slow service, glasses not cleared away and the worst broccoli I've ever had, it was raw. I had the salmon and the only veg was broccoli. I complained, more was brought it was no better. So basically I paid £17 for a small piece of salmon, some watery sauce and a few potatoes. Despite continued complaints I was charged full price. It took 2.5 hours to have a meal due to slow service. We had 2 children with us so it got increasingly fractious and, apart from my salmon, the food was average. Sorry but we won't be back

We are visiting the area from Liverpool for the weekend and found this place through a trip advisor search. Delicious roast dinner, generous portions, restaurant was well presented and welcoming. We sat in the bar area as we had a dog with us but we did not feel disconnected from the restaurant vibe. The staff were extremely friendly. Will definitely be our go to place on our next.

Called in for a Saturday family meal, looks are very deceiving. Shame about the state of the damp in the main restaurant area, really drags the place down. Limited menu! Food was either over cooked and burnt or over cooked and hidden by sauce, we did send the chicken strips and burgers back, when the food came back it wasn’t bad but the other part of the meal was hidden and terribly overcooked and try. Undecided on the steak as it was requested medium rare, sent back and still came over cooked. Male manager was ver offended to the point he was point blank rude pushed past past my husband and spoke over me. STEER CLEAR waste of money and most definitely not worthy of a green king badge !

Atmosphere is nice and the staff were friendly. We had 2 courses and a glass of pop each. The bill was £60. One main was steak which was ok but the menu isn’t very clear regarding sauces, mushroom with garlic sauce turned out to be a whole mushroom with garlic butter melted on top not actual steak sauce. The let down was the specials menu Eton mess dessert which came and I was advised there were no raspberries so we’ve put sauce on instead. The ruby chocolate mousse can’t have been more than a cm thick and didn’t taste of anything, the rest of the meringue nest was filled with cream and some ice cream sauce over the top. Really disappointing for over £7. Can’t say we will be returning soon

This review won't be long as I don't want to waste my energy on this place. The restaurant itself is lovely, nice atmosphere and nicely decorated, then the kitchen door opens and BANG loud music blaring from the kitchen, so you have to stop your conversation until the door closes. Ordered the Vege burger, absolutely vile!! Very clearly a product sourced from a third party, frozen, then defrosted to order! Blatant microwave usage as the "Burger" was rock solid and dry, hardly any cheese either. Asked for Ketchup it never came. "Would you like desserts?" "No thanks", not after that meal.... horrendous!! And the price for the food is ludicrous!!! 2 adults and 1 child = £70!!! We had a starter sharer camembert and two mains, plus a kids meal!! 1 wine a beer and a small lemonade. If you want below average food worse than a Whetherspoons for expensive prices, then this is the place for you. Absolutely horrendous,will not be returning and will be telling friends and family to prevent them wasting hard earned money.

This place is very cosy and has a good atmosphere, the staff are very friendly: Owen & Callum. The food very good as for my starter salt & peppered squid followed by sea bass with scallops - so tasty and for dessert with the mini brownie which is divine & cup of tea ..Everyone enjoyed the food so much and it was good value for money.. Definitely will go back again soon. Lovely place ❤️

We arrived greeted fine and sat down . It was a while before being offered drinks and I had to ask for a drinks menu . We knew what we wanted to eat but as soon as I asked I was told they didn't have the trio roast and no turkey. So we had to order beef which we didn't really want . 10 mins later the waitress came over said sorry they sold the last 2 beef so all we could pick was a rib of beef or pork . The Rib was all we could pick as we didn't like pork it was more expensive as well so I wasn't best pleased. My daughter at this point wanted to go home . We got our meals my daughter loves parsnips but none were to be seen as advertised on the menu also they said it was maple roasted carrots they were just boiled carrots . And the roast potatoes as advertised with garlic and rosemary were definitely not that . Not once did the waitress ask if everything was OK. I then asked for puddings to be told 2 of them they didn't have and the coffee machine had apparently blown up so I couldn't even have that. I have to say I won't want to eat there again ii was a really depressing meal for a mothers day. I just can't believe you can't make sure to have enough stock in and make sure to tell people about the stuff you don't have as soon as they sit down. If it wasn't for mothers day I would of gone elsewhere.

The venue is clearly split into a bar and a restaurant. The bar is for drinks and meals. They welcome dogs here with a dog station with water, biscuits, bowla and fleeces! Well looked after dogs I think. We were in the restaurant side. This is a Green King pub restaurant with some hand pull real ales but not many. The prices were higher than a normal pub meal like wetherspoons and the menu appeared to be specific to a Sunday. It was quiet with people in the bar and the restaurant side. We had not pre booked. A starter we shared squad which we shared and was very nice. Main course my husband had beef ribs which he said was lovely. I had a vegetarian Wellington with lightly roasted potatoes, vegetables. My husband had a Yorkshire pudding with stuffing. Mine came with a gravy boat. He loved his food whereas mine was very dry and could have done with more gravy but no one was around to ask for more gravy which was ironic as we were tended to by 6 members of staff throughout our visit. For our dessert we both had sticky toffee pudding with Cornish style ice-cream which was fantastic. We weren't rushed and we had a lovely evening however the food and drinks cost more than we would normally pay. Best to save it for a more special occasion rather than a lets go out for tea!

We are regulars here and let me say firstly - the staff are always excellent. Friendly and helpful, they are a credit to the place, and they did their best to sort out our issue tonight. However, tonight’s food was not wonderful. The Korean chicken strips were so overcooked as to be inedible. It seemed as though they had been griddled at least twice . The crispy strips were only just warmed through. Very disappointing as I have had this before and it has been lovely.My husband had the duck special which didn’t come with a potato cake as on the menu, but the pan fried new potatoes were ok, if a little dry. What we found most disappointing was that the menu, which has changed regularly, is still the same, and is getting a little bit boring. We really enjoy eating here but the kitchen need to avoid complacency.

Went for the Sunday dinner but had a craving for Fish n chips and I never usually have pub fish but it was beautifully cooked. Light crisp batter and lovely really fresh fish and it wasn't greasy, just perfectly cooked and good quality mushy peas.I'm craving it now. Nice and comfortable place, staff were very nice. I'll be back for that Fish n chips!

We go to Thornton Lodge regularly. Food and service is always great. Food very reasonably priced too.

Visited Sunday lunchtime, the pub is dog friendly (bar area only) so tried to book a table (without success), was told we couldn’t book a table in the bar area and to get there early ie. midday to secure a table as they get very busy 12:30 onwards… 2:00pm came and it was far from busy!! The place is lacking any atmosphere possibly due to its size , service is good, food is fine it’s just your average pub food. We have been a couple of times for food as family live locally, but can’t say it’s our preferred place, it’s just convenient.

Went for lunch today,menu say`s lunch is served until 4 we ordered at 2pm to be told no food until 3 as the chef is on his break.While everyone get`s a break at work is this the appropiate time.poor.

Had family meal on NY eve , food was lovely along with service at the table. No complaints at all. Sirloin steak was cooked exactly as ordered and was spot on.

Came for my sons birthday and that is the only reason some of the food wasn't sent back. The garlic bread rather than crisp and oozing butter was warm with glutinous cheese on top, horrid but you could see when cooked it would have been great. Children's mash with sausage main was sorry to say horrid. Gravy that came with mail was so thick it would not pour out of the jug. The fourth time within roughly a month I’ve been here and the food is always very tasty and is the only reason I’ve kept coming back to Thornton lodge until now. My last four experiences have been awful, such an unfriendly atmosphere from staff. Girl who served us 3 of those times was very unprofessional and rude, no smile, chewing gum, asks a question whether your food is ok before you can even answer she’s turned her back on you. Food order comes out wrong the last 2 times I’ve been there, and no offer of sauce, vinegar, butter for jacket potatoes and you have to go out your way to ask just to get a reaction that comes across like you’ve burdened them and they can’t be bothered with you. Older guy with glasses is miserable too! You’re made to feel like an inconvenience and since these recent experiences I’ve spoken to friends who I know used to eat here and no longer do apparently because of the bad service and rude staff. Such a shame for the chefs whose food is 10/10. To be fair the manager on my last visit was very accommodating to my concerns, which was very much appreciated! However the older man with glasses who overheard me asking for the manager decided to tell the girl I complained about whilst we were still in there and she shouted out she hadn’t done anything. Very unprofessional. And her age isn’t an excuse, I’ve met children as young as 5 years old with better manners than her.

Came here for lunch as a family party of 9 after my mum's funeral. We all had 2 or 3 courses and the food was absolutely excellent all-round. Have read a few reviews about rude staff but we didn't encounter this at all. The only reason for not awarding 5 stars was that I found the garlic mushroom starter quite small for the price and the desserts were also quite small portions.

The food was exceptionally good - as good as and possibly better than any pub Sunday lunch I've ever had, and in 64 years I've had a few! All three of us really enjoyed it and praised the chef. Service was good, a few slip ups but some of the staff seemed new and inexperienced we thought. And the bill was a surprise, it was fantastic value. We're looking forward to our next visit!

Nice place - shame about the food and the unhappy looking staff. Six of us, who all had different things for starters and mains, and only one enjoyed the meal. the other meals were alright but overcooked. For the price, which wasn't cheap, it was disappointing. There are a lot of other places to go for better food and value unfortunately. However, with a bit of tweaking I'm sure it could be as good as the other Chef and Brewers in the chain.

Enjoyed our meals can't complain about that at all. However, some of the staff could actually smile at you when they serve you. Young lady didn't crack a smile once and we felt like an inconvenience. Let's hope the manager notices and has a word..it doesn't hurt to make someone's experience a good one by giving service with a smile.

My wife and I had an excellent meal here this week. Both had the 10oz Sirloin which was one of the best cooked tastiest steaks we had in ages. Great choice of deserts. The service was excellent. Having enjoyed the meal so much we wanted to book a family meal for twenty guests but unfortunately they were unable to cater for parties this size midweek. They offered to get the manager to call back but they failed to call me back but still waiting. Shame they let themselves down at the end as we really enjoyed our day.

I'm still feeling disappointed we paid £60 for our meal. It wasn't nice at all. My son was given one of those frozen deep pan pizzas that you warm up in the microwave. My pie was hard and there was barely any filling inside, I had to spit some of it out as there was gristle aswell. Then it was repeating on me for a few hours after. My partner said his was dry and he didnt enjoy it. I can cook much better than this at home, I just wasn't in the mood that night. So I'm disappointed we wasted our money. The staff were friendly enough. I won't be coming back.
