What a lovely little place! Came here for lunch and the food was incredible, reasonably priced and loved how many drink options they had. Perfect for coffee fans, the staff were also exceptional. So friendly and really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Will definitely be returning.

First visit to The updated Bhurtpore Inn ( Sunday 03 November 2024) Our first visit to The Bhurtpore Inn after it's updating by the new owners was a 'mixed one' . We have been visitors to the old Bhurtpore for decades now , and any changes were likely to be difficult . The Bhurtpore Inn ( sorry I cannot call it Bhurty) is now a sleek and modernised version of the old place . It seems to be doing very well under its new owners. The food is different but still wonderful - the Steak Pie on offer delicious with great triple cooked chips . The other meals were just as nice . The real ales on offer were also in great condition with dark real ales still available as part of the offer . The Bhurtpore Inn now uses Real Ale Finder website to inform customers what beers are on and upcoming . I did not see any list of available beers in The Bhurtpore - perhaps a 'whiteboard ' list like the old blackboard that Simon used to have might be an idea ? The toilets have been updated and the gentleman's toilets ( stags ) is now located where the ladies were and ladies now are accessed from the right hand side of the rear bar area. The update seems to have 'hollowed out' the old Bhurtpore and now it seems a much noiser. The lack of carpets , soft furnishings and curtains although helping with cleaning does seem to have created an echoing chamber of a place . The noise level is not helped , in my opinion , by having loud piped music throughout the bar area . Our Autistic son found the noise level very difficult to handle but a staff member was able to turn the volume down . However, it does not seem to be be able to be adjusted by area only as a whole system. It is off-putting to have 'piped music' when you are trying to have conversations and enjoy the company of friends and relatives . The service seemed to be stretched with front of house staff finding it difficult to address customer requirements at times . The bar area was well staffed and with helpful service. The Bhurtpore Inn had two large groups in aswell as lots of other visitors so a slower service was to be expected . We did have to ask 3 times before we had some water for the table and then only one glass was brought . The ice in the water had disappeared before it reached the table . A bit of a mixed review but the food and drink are highly recommended sadly we are not likely to regular visitors anymore due to the noise issues ( we are just getting too ancient ) Good luck to everyone involved . Old Review We have been regular visitors to the Bhurtpore Inn for about 20 years . We are travelling some distance from Shropshire and have really been impressed by Simon George's range and quality of beers . The Campaign for real ale have also been impressed as The Bhurtpore Inn has been a long time regular in The Good Beer Guide . Nicky George has an excellent front of house team running the food service . We have enjoyed the quality of the fresh food that is always served to customers with politeness and keeness to help. We hope things do not change too much and the high quality of food , real ale . Best wishes to Simon and Nicky on their impending escape and to the new owners . Older Review information It has a seperate dining room space and many other tables in smaller spaces around the bar. A lovely real fire is the small reception area by the end of the bar. A ' food specials' board is on the wall by the entrance to the kitchen in this area. A seperate chalk board in the main bar area lists the real ales available along with a description , ABV and cost. You can also check on the Bhurtpore Inn website for an up to date beer list and what is due to be up next. Older review from 2017 below,) A superb friendly pub with a fantastic range of real ales ! Lovely food curries and my favourite steak and kidney pies freshly prepared with puff or shortcrust pastry tops. Fresh seasonal vegetables and potatoes with it. We are regular visitors and cannot wait to return!

Went with friends soon after the Bhurtpore reopened under new management. It looks very smart, and the menu also looked good. Unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. The waitress had little knowledge of the menu or the drinks that were available. More training was needed. The decor, which looks really fresh and inviting, lacks any soft surfaces, which resulted in lots of noise echoing, making it very difficult if not impossible to hold a conversation at the table. When the meals arrived, 3 were as expected and were satisfactory. Unfortunately, my main of mussels were not. It was a very small portion for a main course, and the mussels were very small. In total, there were only 2 - 3 ounces of flesh in the whole dish. The accompanying cream sauce was very good, but the mussels should be the main event. I complained to Emma, who said that is the size of a main course and walked off, giving no further explanation and making no attempt to deal with the situation. I never have a problem when eating out if something is not up to standard, I realise that such things can happen, but it is how it is dealt with that matters and on this occasion it was not dealt with properly. That is the reason for my poor rating. Having been to the attached No18, run by the same management many times, the service and food have always been excellent. Hopefully, now the Bhurty has been open for a while, and their standards now match those of No18.

The food was okay for the high price that it was. I had the Farmers Roast with two meats, pork and beef, both of which were shaved extremely thin to the point that you couldn't taste the meat with it being shaved such. The decor was lovely and the service was absolutely excellent. I'd highly recommend the bread and butter pudding. Two of us went for Sunday lunch.

The food was excellent, however, we were waiting the best part of an hour and a half for it to come out, after being told originally that there was a 45 minute wait on food, despite having a table booked. We appreciate that they had a party on, however, one member of staff was particularly snarky, rolling her eyes whilst delivering a disingenuous apology! There was no offer of compensation for the waiting time either. It wasn't a great experience.

We visited as a group of six for my birthday, my son, Joel, booked us in and we were quickly shown to our table. Waitress asked if we wanted drinks and was super friendly and efficient. Food order was then taken as the drinks arrived. Staff clearky knew their jobs and were well trained. Food arrived and every dish was superb from the huge kids portion (mini fish and chips). One off my pet hates is food not being hot but this is not a problem here. I had the Tomahawk pork and it was perfectly cooked and piping hot. Portion size was excellent. Dessert was the ordered and served, again all really tasty and of good quality. If anything I don't think they charge enough and could get away with another pound a portion. I don't often say that but it would have been worth it. Overall great service, fab food and really good value so we will be back.

I don't often do reviews, but the one entitled Disappointing Experience.-Aug 2024 is false. The writer wasn't solo, he was sitting with 2 other men. The chair he took was from a table that was marked reserved. He was offered another chair, he was rude and obnoxious to the young waitress. He at first refused to sit on the chair provided & then sat down to finish his meal. His friends left him, I assume they were embarrassed by his behaviour. He didn't leave the pub after his meal but stayed drinking and as I left I saw him again being rude and aggressive towards another young waitress. I'm amazed the staff stayed so professional towards him. I think he should have been escorted from the premises. The food and staff were all excellent and we had very good service and a very tasty meal

After a recent change of management at this pub, we visited to have a meal, looking forward to many more visits ahead. All of my family’s meals were lovely but unfortunately mine wasn’t quite right, I didn’t mind. But my mistake was to politely explain the problem and asked one of the staff for a replacement. I was approached by the manager who told me that she was sorry I didn’t like the food but then proceeded to tell me that I was wrong about my complaint. It was rather disappointing and uncomfortable to be honest. When my replacement food was brought, she then passed my table and spoke rather loudly that she hoped I liked that one. It sounded very sarcastic and It was easily heard by customers near to me, which further contributed to the discomfort. The criticism was taken very personally, which was unnecessary and quite weird, I felt. Never experienced anything like this before anywhere. Shame, because everyone else’s food was great. I didn’t even mind that I had to return mine. Don’t complain about the food😳

I have visited The Bhurtpore since I was in my early thirties, and am now in my early seventies. I used go there regularly as the food is always delicious. However being a vegetarian, over the years the choice of menu has been limited to the extreme and is always the same dishes on offer. While in the 70s and early 80s this was marginally acceptable but definitely since the mid 90s this is a disgrace! Do you not value none meat or fish eating clientele? There are so many local venues that have embraced customers of varying tastes, and they are making a fortune on the backs of these short sighted landlord/landlady Come on Bhurtpore, step up and meet the challenges of the modern local communities! I was a loyal customer for many a year but there was only so many “Cheese and Leek” potato cakes a person can take for Sunday Lunch! Other newer customers may look at today’s menu and see a very few other dishes (compared to meat and fish menus) however these too are still the same as years ago. Please please change.

Well, what can I say. The ambiance of the Indian subcontinent created by the maps and visuals from the days of Empire is very homely and interesting. There are three main eating areas and this time we were in the main restaurant and then after in the bar. The food - Three Pappadum Starter, Mains of Goat Curry (me) and Chicken and Spinach Balti (significant other) is excellent and the meat is first rate. Simon & Nicky George have it covered (they have been here over twenty years) and have won so many awards they really don't have to care about reviews like this any more. The beer choice is excellent as many pumps operate on permanent weekly change. Theres always a new taste. If only we lived nearer we would be in there more. This was our first visit to this pub which has an excellent local reputation. It was not as good as we'd been led to believe. Nice looking tradional pub with superb range of beers and ciders. Staff were professional and by no means rude, but a smile would not go amiss. We went on Sunday lunchtime and, oddly, there was no 'Sunday lunch' (roast dinner) on the menu. Food was good but not spectacular. Plenty of nicely cooked chicken with stilton sauce (not enough stilton in my view) but sadly deficient in potatoes and (especially) vegetables. Lasagna was good. It was not busy for a Sunday lunch time. Perhaps a score of 3/5 is a little harsh, but certainly not worth 4/5, and one can't give 3.5.

Absolutely belting pub. Phenomenal selection of real ales & whiskeys. Excellent food, especially the curries. Staff always friendly and helpful. Just make sure you book a table at busy times! Recent visited again (Feb 2023) and they are still absolutely top notch.

Had a fantastic lamb curry last night with some amazing beers. The wine specials were excellent too. The pub was fully booked and the service was exceptional as always, Simon, the Land Lord and his staff are brilliant.

Spent my husbands birthday meal here with all the family. Food was fantastic, plenty of choice for all. Vegetables served on a side dish which I personally prefer. All staff very helpful and friendly yet very professional. Would definitely recommend.

Authentic curries in a village pub location and a superb range of ales. What's not to like

Came in early December and couldn’t fault a thing, yes the decor is dated and the carpets are ild but it’s a proper pub. A pub with a twist, specialising in curries you can’t go wrong. We’ve enjoyed all sorts here and to top it off the ale is a perfect match for my partner, when he’s a bit full from food he highly recommends some local favourites from red willow or if calling in for a swift one the bitburger hits the spot. We be popping in again more than normal!

Food and beer are exceptional. We've been twice in two months, and we don't live nearby. I'm sure we'll visit again in 2023.

Bhurtpore Inn continues to offer delicious food and beautiful real ales . A lovely range of specials appear on the chalk board by the kitchen door. Simon continues to source wonderful real ales - highly recommended ( Do be aware that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays at present due to the difficulty finding staff )

Nice real beer and food. Cosy and friendly. Not quite as good under Buxton Brewery cut good to see it re-open. 04-07-24 Sadly closed again with stripped out fittings and furniture with a sad now on the window from Buxton Brewery saying we tried 😥

Lovely old pub, Robinson Brewery really have invested well in their estate and the Swan Inn is no exception, absolutely chock full of character. Well worth checking out if you’re passing. We chose from the light bite menu which was terrific value for money, great portions and good quality. Very friendly, attentive staff waiting on. The cherry on the cake? Possibly the best pint of Unicorn Bitter I’ve had in a long while.

A group of 23 of us booked for the Christmas 3 course meal. The booking was for 7pm and it took the staff until after 8 pm to start bringing the Starters to us in dribs and Drabs. We were advised the Vegetable soup was not available and we're offered 3 alternatives. One of which turned out to be not available. 1 person did not like the alternatives to the soup but was not offered anything else or her money back for this. The main courses arrived again after the staff not clearing the tables and again in dribs and drabs. The cranberry sauce arrived after most people had finished there meals. The Turkey was beautifully cooked but the Salmon was overcooked, Some of the vegetables were more than slightly Al dente and some cold. Again the tables were not cleared properly and the sweets arrived again in dribs and drabs. We were not offered the option of brandy sauce for the Christmas puddings and the pitiful amount of Custard that was to shared between everyone was very disappointing. The overall experience ended around 10.30 meaning it had taken 3 and a half hours to serve 3 courses if food. There were only 3 staff we could see in the premises and they seemed to be trying to cook and serve at the same time. They appear to be prioritising walk in customers and blamed this partially on the poor service and lack of staff allowed to work by the management. Finally the Cheese and biscuits ordered specially for two people and confirmed the day before were not brought out and we were told that was only available on Christmas day. We shall not be booking this again! Please think carefully before booking a large party for a meal.
