We booked the Purple room for a 21st party. The venue is conveniently located with a good size car park. The room is a good size and shape for a party with a seating alcove for those wanting to chat. We were allowed to place decorations around the room and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The buffet food was good quality and the staff set it out for us. Would thoroughly recommend this venue.

So our umpteenth time at the restaurant but only my second review. For comparison purposes, I eat the same thing for both reviews, in the case eggs Florentine.. Excellent again. It is a dish that is very easy to get wrong, underdone or overdone eggs or the sauce being odd. However here I have absolutely nothing to complain , moan or niggle about. Absolutely perfect. With one exception, my wife stopped me ordering it again in the same sitting.😄

Just had to come back to the Black Boy after my first visit in May and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The fish and chips with Lockwoods mushy peas are simply fantastic and the fish is so fresh and the batter light and crispy. Two of us enjoyed the large fish and chips whilst the other meal with the large lamb dinner - just delicious. Everything cooked to perfection with melt in the mouth lamb and lashing of gravy. The staff are lovely and they dealt with our request to be seated in the quieter downstairs area with kindness. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. A definite 10/10 from me.

We were very disappointed with the service. We arrived and we greeted by a very nice young lady who took us to our table however we had a couple of issues with our food. When we raised our issues with the manager she dismissed them and refused to help at all. We asked for her name and she didn’t give it to us but her staff called us she was called Maggie.

“A royal disaster at the Kings Arms! Took the family out for what we hoped would be a hearty meal and instead got… well, a small sample size of a dinner! The much-anticipated muntjac main came out and looked more like an appetizer, served with all the grandeur of a bite-sized snack. When we politely asked the waitress if this was actually the main course, she snapped back with a cheery ‘Well, maybe you should eat before you come next time!’ Ah, the charm. Things only got weirder when the owner marched over, raised an eyebrow at us like we were some sort of Yelp/TripAdvisor/Google Review mafia, and kindly informed us, ‘You’d better not even think about leaving a review.’ Well, here we are, honoring her request… sort of. So, if you’re into dining experiences where you leave hungrier than you arrived and enjoy being mildly threatened, the Kings Arms is your kind of place!”

The Wheatsheaf is highly recommended in a very quaint village. The restaurant is cosy and the staff very attentive. We went with the family and thoroughly enjoyed both the quality of the food and the presentation was outstanding, I had the venison which was cooked to perfection and so tender it melted in the mouth. Compliments to the chef and restaurant staff for a very pleasant time which was well spent in the quiet ambiance of the Wheatsheaf
