Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch here- the roast lamb was amazing. Squeezed in a pudding and went for the special - apple and blackberry crumble. Not as expected, more a deconstructed crumble and not a crunchy topping but still very yummy 😋

Very busy country pub. Service good. Menu OK. We had the breaded chicken which was satisfactory. Nothing too outstanding, but good for a quick dinner/catch up. By the time were arrived at 7.15pm things had already sold out on the menu which was disappointing. Booking advised. The evening we visited all tables were full.

I have always loved this pub. The food is great. The service is amazing. The setting is perfectly english.

Lovely relaxed Saturday lunch in old village pub. Schnitzels and burgers to die for! Lots of curioes and interesting posters.

Asked to wait 30 mins for food. After an hour, they hadn't even taken my order. I will not be returning. Shame because it looks like a lovely pub.

Very traditional. With a village green out front. Beer garden to the side with kids play area.

Highly recommended. My favourite pub in the Buckingham area. Service has always been excellent and I just love the Big Boy Schnitzel!!! Has a play area in the garden and good range of lagers/beers.

We were too early for the evening food service from 6PM so we just had hot and cold drinks. However, we enjoyed our short visit and would like to go there again for lunch or dinner. We had a look at both menus and, although the meals seemed a little expensive, we will still go again at a more suitable time. The staff and even some of the other customers were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed locally and visited the pub as it was recommended. We ordered schnitzel and can highly recommend all meals arrived together and were piping hot and very tasty. Service was welcoming and friendly we were offered a table inside or outside. My only comment would be the addition to the bill of 12% service charge personally I like to leave a tip based on my own experience and not something which is added automatically.

Normally I wouldn't go out and choose chicken kiev. However, at the Red Lion I wouldn't choose anything else. It is exceptional.

We travelled 45mins to meet friends here and after watching the cricket on the green opposite (with a few beers), had a delicious schnitzel and the staff were all absolutely lovely and very attentive. Would give more stars if possible one of the best pub experiences I’ve had in ages.

Super weird vibes in this pub! Definitely feels like a locals only place. Not sure if it was because I was with my boyfriend (male and male) but the bartenders were acting strange and the other patrons made some uncomfortable comments urging me to ‘watch where I’m going’. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t stay long enough to order but looking at the menu it seemed expensive . Overall uncomfortable place where we won’t be returning- maybe they were just having an off day

I've been to this pub a few times so know it's not a cheap eat out but on this occassion I ordered the vegetarian broad bean linguine and when the bill came it was seriously over-priced. I went back to the staff behind the bar to double check the price and they confirmed that's what is was on the menu. I gave feedback that it was a lot of money for the dish that I had had, more than the meat or fish dishes that my friends had ordered. I take responsibility for not checking the price before I ordered but I left feeling quite disheartened and baffled at the cost!

Having visited the pub for drinks before, we decided to go for an evening meal. Our table was in a lovely position. We were quite surprised with the lack of menu choices and overheard the next table being informed that the kitchen had in fact ran out of some items. Service was very slow and no one came to check that everything was okay with our food once we’d got it. The waiting staff also worked behind the bar. Food was very nice and portions are very generous. A few more staff members may have made our experience more enjoyable

This is a great pub in a lovely village. The food is always top notch and the service is always spot on. They've got a lovely beer garden for those sunny days too. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend stopping in.

Great food but a disgusting service charge of 12% on a bill of over £350 took the polish of the meal No notification of this charge anywhere to be seen Will have to think twice before another visit Be careful Does this charge go to the staff or does it go into the landlords pocket ?

Stopped here for lunch yesterday (26th) and decided to try a range of starters. We had Truffle and Parmesan fries, Haddock gougons, Camembert wedges and chicken satay skewers. The food was excellent and the chicken satay skewers are worth another visit alone. The staff were very helpful and the little museum within the pub is wonderful. Well worth a visit if your going to Evenley Wood Gardens.

This pub is great. Food is so good!! -Been here a handful of times. I love the atmosphere but the lady working tonight was extremely rude (tall with short blonde hair to her ears) and not to everyone but she definitely had a problem with Americans. Such a shame to be treated this way.

Visited the red lion for Sunday lunch, the starters were very good but at £9-10 + 12% service charge makes them over priced for what is a pub meal. Main course very tasty but could have been hotter, the service charge stings the pocket and is not necessary. Will visit again and hope ???? the service charge is removed from the bottom of the menu, not advertised on the website.

A local garden centre recommended the pub/restaurant and we were lucky to get a table without a reservation - it soon filled up. We only had time for a main course and we both had the steak & venison pie. It was a good choice - 99% meat & gravy with delicious pastry. We will come back if we are in the area.

I had a lovely Sunday roast. Everything about it was perfect, that goes for the crumble dessert too.

What a wonderful pub! It’s wonderfully cozy, the staff were so incredibly friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious! I ordered the vegan burger (subbed vegan for regular cheese)- and I have to say this was quite possible the best vegetarian burger I’ve had in England! Absolutely delicious!!

Sunday lunch at over £20 was so very overpriced. What's with the service charge? just a hidden extra, for what? Tasty beef, but with a lot of gristle, (I had to get a steak knife to cut through it), roast potatoes were obviously cooked hours ago as they were soggy. Even the yorkshire buds were soggy. We asked for Horseradish, I had to go to the kitchen over 5 minutes later to find out where it was! This type of 'roast' can be found in any high street cheap pub, for less money! We have been to the Red Lion a few times before and always enjoyed the food. If this service and overpriced offering is their standard now, I doubt very much we'll return. Why didn't I complain at the time? I don't like confrontation, none of us do, a good restaurant should get it right first time.

Plain fare, nothing exceptional. Rather limited menu. Staff pleasant enough, but service very slow. 12% service charged although not mentioned anywhere on website or menu. Rather overpriced for the experience.

Wonderful evening meal in a quaint village hostelry

Good food, good service, nice atmosphere.

With my partner & friend, had a small lunch and 3 bottles of wine, total bill was £130, fine with that, but then they added 12.5% service charge, £70 of the bill was Wine! Often visited the pub in the past, but that's the last time. I'm fed up with service charges, it's legalised theft IMO. No wonder pubs are struggling.

One star because this is the fourth time I’ve tried to come to this pub only to be turned away because of “capacity”. Numerous open tables in and out and rather rudely informed that there are no tables available for 2 and a half hours. Don’t even bother trying

Great pub with great food, atmosphere and service!

Popped in for lunch. Burrata not available. Ordered four small plates between two. Three were lovely. Triple cooked chips ordered and French Fries delivered. Minor thing, but disappointing as French Fries are not the same as chips. Friendly welcome and service was efficient.

Popped in for a soft drink whilst on a bike ride. The staff were friendly, if a little over run. It was unseasonably hot. The garden was lovely with lots tables. Very worth a visit.

I visited this restaurant with my brother and we were both hungry after a long day. The menu offers s few choices including Snitzel and Steak. We chose the chicken that was nicely cooked and delicious.

Lovely pub to visit, good range of beers and a nice ambience, an interesting place to go to. Lunch menu was a bit limited but the food that we had was very acceptable. Would we go there again? Yes we would, staff are friendly and helpful.

We were initially told we couldn't have food because we hadn't booked as it's busy on a warm summer evening. We were very disappointed but then new staff came on at 6pm and said we could order food if we did so soon and sat in the garden. Perfect! This was what we wanted anyway. We had 2 generous starters & 2 sides. Very filling and delicious with excellent service.

Our friends had seem this pub while looking for a property in the area. They had mentioned the locals had said the food here is lovely. Sadly to say, the food was very poor. For a Sunday Dinner around £19 per person, you would expect a half decent meal. We believe our food was left on the side heater for over 20mins, when it had came to the table the food was warm and we were left waiting nearly an hour. It way over priced ie a scoop of ice cream £3 and service charge of 12%. We all know lots of things have gone up, this is way over the top. a Toby carvery on a Sunday is couple of pounds cheaper, at least it's hot and you can gauge what you want.

As a visitor for a quick stay in the village, it’s was everything and more! Lovely staff, incredible food and a great pint ☺️

Nice village pub with good food. The schnitzels were good, but they included cheese filling which made them a bit greasy to my tastes.

Great Sunday Roast served by very attentive staff, pudding was a bit limited and maybe could do with a few more AF beer options. Will visit again, much better than average.

Had lunch here yesterday, lovely food, staff and good beer. Small menu, but everything we had was nice. Wasn't impressed with 12% "service charge" being added to bill without asking me first. The visit was well worth a tip; but surely that's for the customer to decide!

Met family here for lunch after a recommendation from someone else. Overall, we were very impressed although the lack of chicken or turkey as a Sunday roast option was disappointing. Other than that, the food was great - especially the cauliflower cheese! The staff also deserve a mention for being friendly and attentive. Will be visiting again soon.

We visited this lovely village pub on a wet weekday night and it really brightened our day. The atmosphere is that of a comfortable ,traditional pub. The food was superb, large portions and top quality.

A great venue with cricket matches played on the green opposite the pub. There is a huge play area out back for children as well. All in all, a brilliant atmosphere

Simply brilliant. Great food, great service, great restaurant. On my visit it rained heavily and we were lent an umbrella to get to our car, with instruction to leave it on the verge at the front of the restaurant. Now that is service. You must visit, but reserve a table as it is very popular

Recommended by our Airbnb hosts and we weren’t disappointed. Delicious Sunday lunch which was a good size but didn’t leave you feeling stuffed and something we appreciate and is fairly rare. Only tiny negative the staff were somewhat cool on their welcome & service but this didn’t spoil our visit at all.

Nice pub for a pint with a good beer garden. Food menu limited and nothing special. Was disappointed to get one small slice of beef with the roast, but more disappointed that when the waitress asked if everything was okay with the meal and we mentioned the small beef portion, she just laughed and walked away. Why bother asking.

We had family staying for Easter. We live locally, and my father booked it as I had been keen to visit. The hot chocolate was weak and not exciting stepmothers' choice pre dinner! It's her favourite. The service was OK, but unfortunately, the waitress and my father collided, and he ended up with salad on his lap. There was little acknowledgement of the embarrassment to a gentleman in his 80s. I suspect I would have found the situation difficult at the age of the waitress, but that's where strong management comes into play! We love popping in for a drink in the summer, but I am unsure we will return for dinner. It's a bit of a bugbear of mine but young people need to learn how to communicate with us oldies! I am in my 50's and worked in various restaurants as a teenager, including silver service.

Had a fantastic fillet steak at the Red Lion last Saturday. The service was exceptional. Looking forward to the summer and spending some more time watching the cricket on the green.

Came here for lunch when we were visiting family in the area. The staff were very nice and overall the service was fine. It did take a long time for the entrees to come out, but the food was delicious, especially the steak and venison pie. Menu is small and I wish they had less fried items on it. There is a very nice view of the village green and the place was quite busy for a Thursday lunchtime.

Stopped for lunch after an appointment at the Sir John Radcliffe. Service was brilliant the staff were really friendly and the food was perfect. Will be back again.

We've always had good food here. It's one of those rare places where you know it's always going to be good. I'm no great burger fan but the burgers here are outstanding.

Smashing village pub such a shame we were just passing through would love to have it as our local. Really hope the locals appreciate what they have. Very welcoming, good food, good service. Will certainly return as and when in the area. Hope you manage to keep going, as you are, during these rather stretched times. Brilliant.

We went there the night before my daughter was married. We went with the in laws. We had a good time.

We enjoyed the most wonderful Sunday roast today, the service was wonderful and the food delicious..not cheap, but very delicious and lovely surroundings..would definitely recommend and return.

Lovely village pub, delicious Sunday roast and nice wine selection. In the summer the garden is a really nice place to sit and bonus is it has a play area! The garden is set out in a way that you could sit away from the play area if you wanted, or there are some tables right next to it so you can supervise children. It's mainly food inside in the evening, but if stopping for just a drink you can sit under heated covered area. My only one improvement would be smaller cheaper children's portions, £10 for a 3 year old with desserts then full price is a bit steep. For older children it's great, but a toddler size would be good. Love the after dinner cocktails too!
