Just had a fabulous lunch here with some of my family. We had pies and pasta, as well as desserts and coffees, and they were all lovely. The landlord was so friendly, and the chef even came out to check that everything was ok. The decor inside is so nice and modern, but with a village pub feel. We will be back!

Having recently visited the pub I booked another table for five friends who were visiting. I reserved a table within the barn area. Upon arrival, we were told that we could no longer have this table as the area was not open. We were in the bar squashed in a corner. We all ordered starters and they came out lukewarm at best. Then our mains came out. Disaster. Chicken burger and accompanying items all over cooked. First item sent back. Salmon was rock solid and inedible. Sent back. Veg all hard and cold. Again sent back. New chicken burger came out, but arrived just like the first. I was told there was no more salmon so ordered a different dish which arrived after everyone else had finished. All other dishes were also cold (apart from the two pies). This was clearly due to lack of staff. Chef was serving at points in the evening. Staff really apologetic. Did not pay for salmon. They gave us free drinks of which was the same as our first order. The next day I get a call from the owner who was aggressive on the phone demanding that I come back in and pay for the drinks order. When trying to explain he just hung up. Safe to say we won’t be returning.

Whilst on a Sunday family outing, in need of nourishment, we stumbled across the Barley Mow, a quaint village establishment. There's plentiful car parking, an abundance of space for both casual and more formal dining, alongside a beautiful, cosy bar and a large garden area for going alfresco (perfect for those sunny days & enjoying some drinks with friends) The menu had a great variety and this was paired with a lovely warm, attentive service. We opted for some starters, the Sunday roast & a couple of desserts on this occasion (rude not to as its Sunday) they were all delicious. The roasts were large & even had a elegant herbaceous note of Thyme running through with all the usual suspects on the plate. One of the star starters for me, was the mushrooms in a cream cheese sauce accompanied with crostini. Without going on too much, It's a lovely hidden gem near Towcester. Lovely atmosphere, good food, drink & service. I've added some pictures also just to give a better idea. Looking forwards to visiting again.

Hate to do this but the food was that bad I feel compelled to leave a review. I could list the issues however the worst was with one of the children's meals, he ordered a chicken burger and half way through eating it he said it didn’t look right, it was raw! now very worried he will be extremely ill tomorrow. Service was friendly and clearly trying hard but the kitchen standards were terrible. Pretty much all the meals had issues. I paid in full and we left.

Came for a family get-together with three generations. Sat outside in the lovely garden and had a great meal while the kids played on the playground just outside the gate. Think they must have dealt with the service / staff problems that other reviews mention as service was quick and polite. The food was delicious, and all plates very happily finished. The chilli was especially good, and fussy teen judged the burger as one of the best he's had. Lovely to have nice food together outside in the sunshine - the kids are nagging us to come back1

Love the Barley Mow Paulerspury, we often eat here and the food is consistently very very good. The Sunday roasts and Mixed Grill are outstanding. Had Sunday lunch here a few weeks back (2 adults, 2 children under 8). We were the first booking in there, as the children like to eat relatively early. Despite this, the food took around an hour and a half to arrive. The children were understandably restless and got down from their chairs at one point, only to be barked at directly by the passing chef (who is possibly also the owner?). The bar / waiting staff were very friendly. I think they were trying to make up for the owner. When the food did arrive, in fairness, it was very nice. An excellent roast dinner. We made the mistake of ordering dessert for the children, which also took an age to arrive. Our table was booked at around 12:30 and we weren't able to leave until after 4pm. This echoes recent reviews so it looks like it wasn't a one-off - both the speed of service and the unwelcoming personality of a certain person. If you have a slow afternoon, then you may well enjoy your time here. But if you have somewhere to be, or if you or your children are hungry, perhaps give it a miss. It's a shame, because the decor is lovely, and there's a good range of food and drink. I think it would do a roaring trade if it could speed up its service, and if the owner could be a little more welcoming.

We love in the village and its the first time we've eaten here in a while (this evening). Waitress service was excellent. Unfortunately, the food was a massive let down. Ordered the pork belly roast and it was INEDIBLE! It was incredibly tough, chewy and flavourless. Kids had roast chicken and even they couldn't eat that as they said it was too dry [it was I tried it also]. The veg was ok, roast potatoes were OK but not crispy at all. Such a shame as I'd love to support our village pub but we won't return again. Did quietly mention the problem to the waitress who passed my comment onto the chef, whose response was "I've been serving it all day" and refused to admit there was anything wrong with it [even though you could see it was untouched). He really needs to work on his customer service skills and be less arrogant about his less than mediocre food !

Just checked their website, Tripadvisor and Google and saw the pub is open. Arrived to see a guy stood on the road as I pulled into park. Wound the window down and asked if this was the car park for the pub to revive a reply as “is is, but what is it to you?” I replied that I was meeting a friend here and he said, “well that’s not happening as we are closed” I replied that his website and Google show it’s open that’s why I’m there to be met with rude replies… So arrogant. Honestly I didn’t think pub could burn customers under the current climate…who knew?! Avoid.

A disappointing meal at this lovely village pub with no apology for the very slow service and excuses made when questioned if the food was going to arrive a hour after arrival that they had a 3 tables to cook for!! Wrong order arrived so food delayed further and it seemed a they had no staff and a lovely, polite but very young girl was the only staff seen. Table booked at 7.30 food arrived at 8.40 we were all starving! I had checked the reviews and booked it. Locals were very drunk and loud with repeated swearing in front of our family but that’s no fault of the pub! Food when it arrived was nice.

My wife and me were greeted warmly both by friendly bar staff and locals and were made to feel very welcome. We had chosen this pub as it was dog friendly and this proved very true with the offer of free dog treats, etc. A good range of gins and some nice, well kept ales in a really quant, old, multi-roomed pub with a roaring fire, beams, etc. Really cosy and atmospheric. The food we ordered was superb. My wife had the seafood risotto and I had the Sunday roast (pork loin). Both meals were delicious and plentiful. Again, pleasant, attentive and efficient service. A friendly welcome, attractive inside and a lovely waitress but the service was sooooo slow even though we were the only ones in the restaurant part. Even the drinks took ages and then had to wait some more for the olives and garlic bread. It really shouldn’t take well over 30 mins to produce a bowl of olives! Food looked good when it finally arrived but my duck breast was tough, overcooked and quite unpleasant. I had also enquired prior to ordering whether the stir fry that it came with would be sufficient or should I order more veg, and was told that the stir fry had plenty of veg. It most certainly didn’t. Received an apology but no attempt to rectify (and it had taken so long that there wouldn’t have been any point in ordering something else anyway). I’m told the burger was fine and the pasta was good but I would not bother going there again.

I grew up in this village & my parents are buried in the graveyard at the nearby church. Over the last 43 years my sister & I have been coming to this pub for refreshment after tending to our parents grave & we’ve never had cause to complain before. We came to eat & play skittles & we always had a good time. I understand this pub has just re-opened after being sold to new owners & having a refurbishment, & this was our first visit back since the new ownership, taking away the skittle table I might add is a great shame, even tho the table was relocated upstairs but not available to play on. On Saturday 3rd August my daughter (who travelled all the way from Kent with her children) & my partner decided to book a table at the Barley Mow to surprise me for 60th birthday with a family get together. They booked a table for 3pm for 13 adults & 8 children. My partner was advised by a member of the Barley Mow to pre order the food for such a large party, this was not a problem & my partner confirmed the food order the day before. We arrived at the Barley Mow early for pre dinner drinks which we took into the beer garden. Only one person was serving drinks & we had to wait a fair time to get served, my partner advised your server that 1 adult could not make it & he cancelled that persons meal (fish & chips) in good time!We were not advised that our table was ready before 3pm, because it wasn’t ready, so at 3.10 we made our own way into the restaurant wondering what was happening. The food was already being served to the table before everyone was seated and ALL the food was cold and the server tried to serve the fish & chip dinner that we had previously cancelled & they tried to send out an extra burger that was not ordered. My daughter was not asked what her family wanted to drink & we had to ask the server to take an order. They had to wait a fair while for their drinks. We were not asked if our meals were ok. We asked for condiments which didn’t arrive, side orders were not offered and our meal was missing chips from the Thai Salmon fish cakes, the children’s meals were missing peas/corn & beans which we were informed we could order on the day, we finished our meals & it took ages for the table to be cleared, we were NOT asked if we would like any deserts, again we had to ask! The deserts took a long time to arrive, we ordered ice creams & the warm chocolate brownies which were served cold! We had to ask for the bill & when it arrived you charged for the cancelled fish & chips & the extra burger that we didn’t order! Your server argued with my partner about the bill & because he didn’t want to spoil my day arguing he paid his part of the bill which included the unwanted items. The food was extremely mediocre & the service was disgusting, shockingly unfriendly & very poor! You have a lot to learn and I really wouldn’t recommend the Barley Mow to anyone now! What a shame! I had extremely fond memories of this lovely picturesque pub & now I think it’ll be a very long time until I set foot in there again!

It was my mums 60th birthday and we booked a table for 19 people and ordered our food in advance. (We hadnt seen some of the guests in 6 years.) We had travelled from kent. We were not seen to the table or asked to go to the table by pub staff. Food was bought out and people were still being seated. No drinks offered by staff. The food was stone cold. Asked for condiments and not bought out. One of the burgers was eaten as it was inedible. When settling the bill, we were made to Pay for an extra burger, even though it wasnt ordered. The chef said it had to be paid for. My mum and aunt meet there regularly as there mum is buried in the graveyard and they are considering somewhere new. They also said the skittle table had gone and replaced with a sofa. Our bill was quite large and feel very disappointed with it all. Date of visit 03.08.2019 .

It has a number of great attributes including a spacious car park, really friendly staff, and nice locals dogs and children were clearly welcomed. As a lager fan I also appreciated Budvar on tap which you do not see very often. The lunch was generous portions, I went for the chicken and bacon lasagne, the cheese was excellent but the rest just lacked anything special. The fish that made wife had was cooked well but the batter was to thick for our liking. The chips we both enjoyed were excellent. Total bill was just under £30 for two main courses and two pints which was not particularly great value, the chairs are also not the most comfortable however the overall decor was really good.

In their time here, Matt and Hannah have really turned this village pub into a thriving business. Great food, great staff and an all round community pub. They should be proud of how much they have achieved here and will be greatly missed within our community.

Very pretty but used for a wedding reception it with a band it felt a bit squashed in. Friendly staff and clean bathrooms...nicely decorated.

I had intended submitting this review soon after the event on 28th July but I have been away much of the time since. I attended this event with my family and party of 8 people.

Excellent Roast, lovely ale. I had The Roast Pork (Shoulder and Loin with crackling) and my partner had Roast Saddle of Beef. Big portions, reasonably priced and delicious fresh food including homemade Yorkshire puds! Would have liked more gravy but they said afterwards they would have brought it if I had asked - would thoroughly recommend!

A wonderfully friendly pub/restaurant with very good food at very reasonable prices. Over 3 days I ate on my own and with guests and was extremely well looked after on each occasion. I would highly recommend the barley Mow

The best roast dinner ever! Beautiful real gravy, perfectly cooked and served in great relaxed 'old world' pub surroundings. Thank you Hannah and Matt.

Stopped by with some friends on Sunday, had one of their highly recommended baguette roast of the day with chips. Absolutely yummy as always with a nice cool pint, listening to some live music. Just idyllic. What a lovely little gem of a place this is. Always friendly staff, dogs welcome and children too. Couldn't fault it.

I visited this pub on three occasions for different family members. For my own birthday I enjoyed a very tasty meal in stunning location. The staff go the extra mile to look after their customers. For my mother in laws birthday we had a party of 14 and again no faults noted, disabled friendly as all on one level and perfect for children as a huge field overlooks with a play park. For my son's birthday he had a great time too, we all love this pub and we will be back again and again! Thank you

We called in here for dinner last Friday on our way further south for the weekend. The food and service were both excellent and at very reasonable prices. It is shame I was driving as I would have enjoyed more than my one pint of well kept real ale too. I recommend the scotch egg starter -delicious.

We had a great experience at the Barley Mow celebrating my wife's 50th. We had the function room to the rear of the pub which also opens onto the garden for 45 guests. The team at the pub were welcoming and friendly, allowing us to set up the function room how we wished, and helping in anyway they could. We had a hot buffet with desert which was excellent. Thanks to the Barely Mow for helping to make this event a special party. Our friends commented at how lovely the pub was and that they too would also hold a function there.

The atmosphere is good, however the drink selection is poor! Ask if you have anything the non alcoholic and caffeine free and got "Coke" as response. After looking around finally found a drink which met with our parties needs. Can imagine it would also get a bit crowded in the bar area if there was more the 10 people there.

Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch here- the roast lamb was amazing. Squeezed in a pudding and went for the special - apple and blackberry crumble. Not as expected, more a deconstructed crumble and not a crunchy topping but still very yummy 😋
