I was really looking forward to trying the The Four pears, it just didn’t live up to my expectations!!!! Food was ok. Burger was bland and looked boring and my partner food the veggie pasta was really just pasta twists. Not even fresh pasta !!!! It lacked atmosphere, no music had to ask for the light on table to be lit and really if your charging that price you need table linen not paper napkins. The interior is awful it’s so dated very Dunelm . Best part really was the staff. I couldn’t even read the bill as the print on the receipt was so dull as they need new ink !!! School boy errors. The bill was nearly £350 for 5 and as it was a birthday celebration it was just disappointing!!!

I have to say how disappointed we were, we had the Sunday roast the potatoes must have been cooked the day before, we ordered whist sitting in the bar and within 3 minutes the food was ready, the Microwave must have been working overtime. If I was being honest I have better food in hospital, I would say avoid.

I messaged the four pears after seeing their Instagram post about their Sunday roasts which looked insane so instantly was craving one. The lovely Clare managed to fit me in last minute that day even though they had no availability on the website. I had the roast beef and the whole meal was 10/10, the portions are massive so you won’t go home hungry. I had a side of cauliflower cheese as that’s just a staple with a roast! Again the cauliflower cheese was amazing, easily the nicest I’ve had dining out. I love this place as the atmosphere is relaxed and chilled and the setting is perfect for a dinner with friends/family. Can’t wait to try the new items on the menu 🤍

Was apprehensive when the place didn’t look busy. Thankfully, was surprisingly delighted. Waitress was very friendly and patient. Food was good, seems to be steak and fish is the go-to. Will come back when in the area again as not local to me. One down side, parking isn’t the easiest. I don’t fault that to the pub though.

What an incredible meal we had here yesterday evening! Visited this restaurant with a group of friends. We shared the 32oz steak and an assortment of vegetables. Who knew that carrots and cabbage could be so divine? The carrots were roasted and dressed in a yoghurt walnut dressing…exquisite! The steak was cooked to perfection and flavoursome. It’s a beautiful pub in a lovely location. The staff provided an excellent service. I have recommended this place already! It made for a lovely evening - thank you!!

We are big foodies and were impressed, definitely somewhere we will come back to again. Outstanding service from lovely and very attentive staff. The atmosphere was chilled on a rainy Saturday afternoon/evening. The menu isn't your standard pub grub—it's a culinary delight! Thoughtfully crafted dishes to suit everyone’s tastes. The four of us have eaten here twice, and the portion sizes are so generous that we had to get a doggie bag for the new potatoes. Our diverse family of meat eaters, pescatarians, and vegans were all blown away by our dishes. The menu is gorgeous, the service exceptional, and the value for money is up there. If you're craving Hunter's Chicken and a plate piled high, better head to a Hungry Horse And If you're not happy with your food or can't find anything nice to say about a group of hardworking young people trying to elevate and educate your palate, just tell them directly. ### Wonderful Dining Experience Under New Ownership I recently dined at this restaurant with a friend, and it was nothing short of wonderful. The recent change in ownership has clearly brought a breath of fresh air to the place. The food was amazing and truly lived up to the hype. Each dish was a delight, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The new chef/owner has a real talent for creating great tasting food that exceeds expectations. I can't wait to see what new additions will appear on the menu in the future. If the current offerings are any indication, we're in for a treat. Not as good as Ember. We love Ember and when we heard the team over there had taken over the Four Pears we were excited to try it out but were left disappointed. The prices are basically the same as Ember but portion sizes are far smaller and it doesn't feel like good value for money. The food also isn't as good. Some of our dishes were undercooked including hard vegetables and the sticky toffee pudding was also disappointing and we could tell it had just been microwaved. I'm sure if you were visiting for the first time and hadn't been to Ember before you'd have a nice meal but unfortunately we could only compare to our many times visiting Ember and it didn't live up to expectations. Overall, it felt the team at Ember puts more time and effort into the dishes so still some way to go to offer the same experience.

We visited the four pears for lunch today, Saturday, and we're both struck by how beautiful the interior was in this fabulous 400 year old pub. We opted for the 3 course lunch, reasonable for £21 pounds per head. We both opted for the crispy chicken starter, and the sticky toffee pudding desserts but my wife had the burger whilst I had the chilli con carne served with rice. All courses were served by excellent staff members with a smile and we thoroughly enjoyed our 1 hour visit. The food was very nice with my chilli con carne not having too much spice, in fact just right. With a pint of lemonade and coke this totalled a very reasonable £49.20. The pub is dog friendly, we saw about 5 in there! Parking is available in the street directly outside. A lovely pub worthy of anyone's time. Visited 16th March 2024.

The staff can’t be blamed as they have clearly not been trained to give good service. They chatted amongst themselves instead of keeping an eye on what was happening with their customers. Drinks were offered too late and then only one drink (with our starters was offered). The courses were all HUGE - unnecessarily so and our white wine sauce on salmon tasted remarkably like gravy!! The dessert did not taste of the white chocolate it purported to be and might have been more appetising if garnisheed with something contrasting, rather than two insipid slices of pear and a similar-colour shortbread. Getting any attention and help from the young waiting staff was very difficult- they were usually chatting to the bar-person. Training and more training is all that’s needed to make this a decent pub/restayrant

Our server was first class, very knowledgeable, attentive and efficient. There were 5 of us and were a little disappointed with the menu, the burgers only had sweet buns (Brioche) not something we like with meat, the alternative was eithe a vegan roll or gluten free, neither of which I found acceptable. In the sandwiches there was a choice of breads, white or rye bloomer. I had fish and chips with peas, beautifully cooked and piping hot, a choice of peas would have been nice. My wife had the special, seafood pasta, which she enjoyed, one of our friends had the steak and ale pie with mash, which he found full of good meat and the mash was very good, his wife had the seabass, the other special which she said was very nice too, her sister had the pulled brisket sandwich in rye bread which she said was really nice. We had to ask for sauces and mayonnaise as they weren't offered The ice cream selection and sorbets was very good. All in all a very nice meal, although for us, a limited menu.

Our second visit to this pub last night. We were a table of 5, it was the Friday night Billingsgate fish night which meant their usual menu is paired back. It's a dog friendly pub, in bar area and presumably in the outside area, which is very nice. The decor and atmosphere is lovely. The business is looking to hire a front of house manager, which is obviously needed as waiting staff were not being directed, they were standing around chatting and we had slow service. We gave up on ordering deserts as it was taking so long and just got the bill instead. The food was good, on a par with other types of gastro pubs, but prawn cocktail starter was disappointing, two lettuce leaves and prawns in sauce, it could have been so much better. Main meals were nice, nothing exceptional, whole sea bass only came with veg, had to order and pay for chips separately. Chips were excellent. Overall, a nice experience but not overwhelmed with the menu choices and value for money.

Never been to this pub before even though I have passed it innumerable times. Advertised as a Greek night with a live band me and my better half were dreaming of those wonderful Greek holidays eating in marvellous tavernas some of our favourite Greek food. Then we saw the menu. Ohhh dear it was a bit thin on choice. OK if you were a vegy or vegan as at least a third of it was for you but I love a real lamb moussaka but only a veg one was on offer! Still I had the prawns for starter which were nice but came with dry bread. I ordered the lamb chops for mains which came with salad and rice. Well they looked really nice on the plate but when put in the mouth...... nothing no taste? I thought, have I lost my sense of taste so I tried the second chop...... no taste? I gave some to my partner and she said... no taste. Very strange but, and I tend to judge restaurants on them the chips I ordered as a side were....oven / Frozen chips. A pet hate of mine as it takes nothing for a real chef or cook to rustle up real chips. We didn't bother with a sweet as we thought the it was probably beyond the chefs capability to rustle up descent home made sweets and we had shop bought sweets at home. The fact is the £95 bill was the way over priced for our food. We had eaten the day before at a green king for £13 including drinks and the food was better than this place.

Lovely little pub in a beautiful old village, called in for a quick drink and nibble after visiting Castle Ashby. Grew to see another dog friendly pub around! Lovely decor and plenty of choice of food and drink, we will be back!

I’d been recommended this pub & decided to try it. My wife & I had a lovely meal here, really nice service & great food. Loved the small bites starters: pork belly bites, pop corn cauliflower and fried squid. Mains of cod & whole sea bass lovely. Draught Doom Bar gorgeous. Option for a lovely outdoor shaded area on a sunny day. Will visit again.

Four Pears is a village pub and restaurant. Always friendly and helpful staff. Had a meal in the restaurant the weekend of the Coronation. They were quite happy for me to have two starters instead of a main meal. Food was excellent. Everybody reiterated the same experience. Will definitely go again.

Visited for dinner last night and it was great, as usual. I’ve been here many times for lunch and dinner as live locally and it’s consistently good. Last night, I had the ribeye steak for the first time and it was perfectly cooked. Partner had the chicken burger and really enjoyed it. Service is always friendly and efficient. Great drinks menu and inclusive for non-drinkers. I’d highly recommend going to one of their monthly “fish nights” where they have some delicious fish specials on. All round a gem of a pub with great food!

Attended with a group of 13 family members - and the service from our server Grace was excellent she was very attentive and got us our drinks orders and ensured all of the food dishes ordered went to the right person. We had pre ordered our food a few days before as we were a large group. So my son had ordered a steak that listed as follows on the menu Black Angus Sirloin Steak Chunky chip, salad garnish, portobello mushroom and grilled tomato with a choice on Pepper corn or red wine sauce £24.95 When his meal come out the peppercorn sauce was missing so we asked for it. We was told they would have to make it as it was not on the menu.. ok I said. The issue I had was when I went to pay. Now as a large group it was agreed we would pay for what we had in our family groups so I went up 2 pay for 3 meals. I was charged £70.23 as I was not sure if the price of my own dish or my wife’s I tapped my card and got my receipt Back at the table I noticed I was charged £2 for the peppercorn sauce and a 10% service charge had been added at £6.38 Now firstly I was going to give a tip to our waitress Grace along with the rest of the table and nowhere did it say on the menu or at the till a service charge will be added and neither was I asked at the till if I wanted to pay it it was just added I checked with others in our group who had paid and they were either asked or the charge was crossed off the receipt. Disappointed as I knew the service charge would not go to just Grace but probably not to the staff at all. After pondering the £2 for the sauce I went to talk to the staff to ask why I was charged for it to which the Manager who over heard barked back at me rather loudly in front of other customers “why did you not expect to pay for it as it’s a chargeable extra” I responded “well it doesn’t indicate this anywhere on the menu” he then shoved a menu at me and said “read it” I gave it back to him and said “I have and there is no indication of the £2 charge” He aggressively said “all restaurants in Northampton charge for sauces” I was shocked at his reaction as he turn his back on me to walk of so I said “well change your menu to reflect it” He turn back and said “ok I’ll get you £2 cash from the till” “To be honest I said I don’t want it but it’s the principle of it .. you keep it” I went back to my seat and a minute later another waitress came over with £2 cash and awkwardly said sorry. The manager just avoided our table from that point until we left. Spending £250 on the food £100 on drinks we didn’t even get a thank you or goodbye when we left and the place was nearly empty Won’t be going back purely because of his attitude and the added service charge and the hidden costs It’s not as if I could go and get the food myself from the kitchen Serve my self and clear my own table It should be my choice who I tip and how much I want to give. Rant over thanks for reading.

Was a good meal with friends. Food was good the steaks were large but the presentation what's not quite what I had expected of the dish. The ding dong of the food being ready from the kitchen can be heard through our dinner which was off putting. Staff were OK seemed a young team on and no real idea of the drinks offered in any depth and had to ask for more drinks for the table., instead of being offered. Had to ask staff to shut the outer door to the smoking area as it made the dining room smell of smoke and was cold Over all it was an OK experience.

We stumbled across this pub back in February ‘22 when looking for somewhere to eat and had a fantastic meal; so much so that on our return trip to Northampton we decided to return and looked forward to it. Upon coming into the pub it was exactly how we remembered it, clean , tidy and welcoming. Unfortunately the food was not up to the standard we remember from Feb. We had fond memories of the fresh bread which was placed on the table during our last visit, sadly this doesn’t appear to happen anymore. The antipasti platter, we had previously had which was fantastic was no longer on the menu, which was a shame. The children’s fish goujons back in Feb were clearly of better quality, the chunks of fish in a fresh crisp batter. This time however they were fish fingers, clearly the same ones that you can pick up at any local supermarket. The steak and ale pie, was bland and tasteless, which was a real shame. The plate came out swimming in gravy, which thankfully I like gravy, but even I have my limits on gravy. The pie inside was dry, there was no gravy filling within the pie, probably why it was swimming in gravy on the outside! Overall the staff are friendly and excellent. The pub is clean, tidy and really funky. The food really let this place down, I don’t know what has happened since our last visit as the majority of reviews are positive, maybe the chef was having a bad day or struggling to get ingredients. However, we felt somewhat disappointed with our food.

Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch here- the roast lamb was amazing. Squeezed in a pudding and went for the special - apple and blackberry crumble. Not as expected, more a deconstructed crumble and not a crunchy topping but still very yummy 😋

We really like this pub; a great atmosphere and delicious, simple food. And the position, right on the canal, is perfect. This was one of a few visits whilst we were in the area, and each time it was equally good. The chips are divine! And for lunch, the BLT is spot on
