Four of us arrived together and we were shown to a table where we chose our meal, the two guys went to order together and paid separately. After 20 minutes two meals came and we didn't know whether to start or not as we waited 15 minutes for the next two meals. I went up to ask where they were and the Manager was very rude. saying they were treated as two separate orders even though we were all sitting together at one table and would like to have eaten together! We all agreed the food was undercooked and bland and the beer tasted like vinegar. (Do they clean the pipes out daily)?? My partner went to the Gents and the Chef was there and didn't wash his hands afterwards and went straight back to the kitchen!?! We won't be coming back!

Another great lunch where the food is fabulous, hot and tasty , and well-presented. The staff were attentive, quick, very obliging allowing me and my grandsons to ice the birthday cake on a spare table. We love the interesting canal views and the environment is very cosy. Highly recommend 👌

We had our staff Christmas meal at The Boat Inn, dining upstairs in the Woodwards restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely excellent – beautifully presented and full of flavour. The staff were attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly, which added to the warm, festive atmosphere. If we were to make any suggestions, it would be to have water provided on the table, especially for larger bookings, and to include a chutney or relish with the cheese board to elevate it even further. Overall, it was a wonderful evening, and we'd highly recommend The Boat Inn for a memorable dining experience. Thank you for hosting us so brilliantly!

Lovely staff and premium real ale. It was getting cold inside so we asked at the bar if we could reload the fire. Visit then absolutely ruined by the manager/owner who appeared and told us it was rude to Stoke another man's fire despite obtaining permission. Then continued to ignore our defense. What a horrible man, who knew he was out of order but his ego failed to let him apologize.

I come here every so often and have never had a bad meal or bad service. Today was of no exception to the norm. We had bar meals and there was a great choice of beer and cider to wash them down. One had the salmon fillet with new potatoes and salad whilst the other had Hunters Chicken. The portions were of a good size and really tasty and fresh. We even found room for a home made desert. Bread pudding and ice cream and a mixed Berry crumble and custard and both were truly awesome. Not perhaps what you call healthy but they tasted great and put a smile on our faces so good hearty winter food which made us feel good and ready for a wander along the canal. Lovely location and a cosy pub. We have eaten here a number of times and enjoyed the food enormously. So we decided to book Christmas day luncheon. The starters was delicious, mains more than enough although the roast potatoes a let down, just not crispy. We were looking forward to dessert, Christmas pudding/custard lacked the alcohol. I know that is a personal thing, but do feel a more boozy one for the adults. Only 3 cream crackers between two people. Plenty of cheese, but there really should have been enough cream crackers on the plate to begin with without having to ask for more. Disappointing mince pies, these really should have been home made and not shop bought. It was a lovely touch to have a little box of party poppers etc and a gift for each of us at the end. Over all it was a nice day. Service was top notch. It did lack atmosphere, no christmas music nor fairy lights in the dining room or the reception area upstairs. Can I also say, jeans? really. A dress code would be nice on such a day.

Booked for Mother’s Day yesterday by my partner for 5pm a few days prior to event, arrived and nicely greeted and seated, meal came out very quickly but didn’t question, ordered from mothers day menu of two beef roasts, meal came and plates were incredibly hot, so much so had to request another plate for my 1 year old (ordered from the kids menu of fish fingers fries and beans) to be cold so that she could eat off of it and touch it. Began to eat and noticed food was cold apart from hot and incredibly hard and dry roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, veg and meat all cold and piled on hot plate, was asked towards end of meal if ok and partner replies fine as we didn’t have time to get into a request of a new dinner at this point, on paying for the meal partner advised meal was lovely tasting however very cold, chef instantly refuses my partner and said it wasn’t cold, then turned to myself and said I should have said something as all food was previously prepared and stored on hot plates, i didn’t know what to say to this but wasn’t happy hearing my food was prepared and stored on hot plates for the afternoon at £16.50 per person for beef roast dinner. Had this have been advised that food would not be freshly cooked on arrival I wouldn’t have stayed and found another restaurant for dinner. With that being said we were given bill with no further customer service. No offer of discount or free pudding to make up for cold meal, so paid and left. Prior to leaving we heard the table next to us comment on hard roast potato’s and decided to finish my Mother’s Day by leaving and not wanting to cause a scene, first time and last time attending the walnut tree.
