Interesting the reviews of this pub are quite mixed. We popped in for a drink after a walk along the canal, not planned. There is a nice choice of beers, chatted with the landlady about them, she came across quite friendly. We sat outside, it was warm enough, nice view of the lock and canal. We weren’t planning on eating but the menu looked ok. The food is the usual pub food, but it arrived quickly and all four meal together. There was plenty of it as well. My blue cheeseburger actually tasted of blue cheese which is not as common as you’d hope! The other enjoyed theirs, especially the pie which was a pie not a casserole with a lid… So pleasant staff, nice views, good food especially for the price and good value. What’s not to like?

Extremely rude barman. Was planning on having a meal here but ended up walking out. Sat down at a largish table with our dog, sat here previously with no issues. The barman was talking to another gentleman who was sat down (landlord we think) and quite loudly said something about us sitting at this large table when there was 2 of us. He never said anything to our face just a snidey comment to this man. We would have moved if it was an issue, but there was only a couple in and that was it so didn't think it was a problem. At this point, I thought sod you, we'll take our custom somewhere else so off we went.

We met our retired friends at 12 noon, what a disaster, he’s 80 , he , tripped over a brick that was holding a mat over a cable or something. He was lifted up off the floor and we got him to a table . No one asked us if he was ok. We waited an hour for our meal which was very poor , no one asked if the meal or my friend was ok . Left so disgusted that I couldn’t be bothered to complain to staff that are so uncaring. I’ve never left a bad review in my 69 years of life, but this pub needs to sort itself out big style . Tim

Called in for a couple of drinks with my son and a bag of crisps after a long walk. We arrived after lunchtime, the bar had plates and glasses scattered all across it. The member of staff was sat down on arrival, he got straight up to serve us. He put my crisps on top of a dirty plate on the bar. My son moved them off. I nipped to the toilets and left my son to pay. On my return he'd put my drink on top of the same dirty plate. My sons a teenager and he even commented on it to me. I dont understand why you would do that. Anyway it's put me off going back which is a shame. But I don't think it's rocket science to know not to place a customers order ontop of dirty crockery that a different customer has used. We stopped off at the steamboat fora drink after a walk and decided to sit inside for the first time. Quirky interior with just 4 people sitting down, one of whom turned out to be the landlord. Pleasant young lady behind the bar followed by a friendly pleasant barman when she left. Husband was happy with his beer and I had a big pot of tea and was given a mug which I was happy about. So far so good. Then some obvious regulars came in and the visit deteriorated. The language was appalling, not exactly quiet and not a word was uttered by the landlord. Our visit ended soon after.

Beautiful setting by the Trent Loch. Sadly the service was atrocious. The waitress literally slammed the drinks on the table. The drinks splashed over me and she didn’t say a thing. Just walked away. Very unusual. The order was incorrect as she had bought an extra drink but we didn’t say anything. She then returned with the card machine to take payment and we asked about food and just barked a reply they had stopped serving at 6 pm. Admittedly we should have noticed the sign that said that on the way in. Unfortunately the decking was very dirty with cigarette ends and food and the tables were extremely close. As we had a puppy with us it was a bit of an issue. I’m afraid to say we left without finishing our drinks. Has to be a first.

Food was amazing as always, we go most Sundays and think it's the best carvery in the Midlands, even further than that. Kitchen staff (james especially) are amazing and are always helpful and are always saving pork crackling for me and the missus (Which is absolutely amazing), also Faye and Milly are always on hand to help when clearing away and setting up, and Nico on reception is always letting us eat early even tho we book. He always tries to get us a table. Bartlewood lodge is amazing, hence why we keep going back every weekend. All bar staff are also helpful. Thank you Bartlewood for making us feel welcome. Best by far.

Very nice friendly place with welcoming staff but wear your eating clothes as you will need extra room to store the food that you are served.

I have visited this venue twice in May & July.Lovely spacious dining hall but can be noisy if very busy as it's high ceilings. Super fresh food & Cakes etc . Friendly staff , reasonable price Mushroom risotto (watch out hard stalks) Lovely views, parking free. A lovely spot.
