Over priced drinks The quiz was good fun however the prizes are a bit ridiculous all ubget is a voucher ro spend at the bar and not all the money that is taken is given back as a prize! So sadly no longer go Is a little a country pub in a village but food is over rated and over priced too

Honestly, probably the BEST chicken burger in the world, had it maybe 5-6 ti.es always perfect!!!

The 3 of us walked in after a fab walk around Dale Abbey. It was fairly busy but was offered a table even though it had a reserved sign. Ordered 2 roast lunches and one of the steak and stilton pies... All was absolutely delicious, especially the pie. Lovely atmosphere and loved the naughty children secret door 🚪👍😅.

Really nice Sunday lunch with nice meat and quick serving times. Lots of nice footpaths nearby and car park is opposite the pub.

Lovely village country pub! Fantastic friendly staff, drinks especially the 'Mojito' are great, food fabulous and home cooked! You won't be disappointed! Keep up the great work guys!

It's a wonderful setting. It's a listed building thats quaint and quirky. A stunning pub. The beer and cider is always clean and fresh. However be prepared to get lighter if you go on the shelf they are a little above tariff in my opinion. The food is sometimes outstanding, and others times passes. The last time we were there the food was good overall. However both people in our party that ordered beef complained it was stone cold. We have made a few constructive criticism in the past when such things have occurred, as we have eaten here many times. This has never been welcomed, and we have always been made to feel very awkward as if we are at fault. Acquaintances of mine have voiced similarities in their experiences too. In particular my partner loves to go here for sunday roast, and always asks to go there, given the option. However on this occasion, to my surprise even she said this has put her off. The young lady who waited on us was lovely, however she didn't have a clue about the food at all. I asked a few elementary questions that completely baffled her. She disappeared for 10 minutes in the middle of the order only to answer a question I never asked when she returned. Nevertheless the menu is very good quality and value, and the specials are always interesting with plenty of variety. On the occasions I have ordered specials they have always been piping and freshly made. Clean kitchen and toilets is always a must and they always tick those boxes here in my experience. Theres always room for improvement, and with a little effort on the sunday roasts and the service this would be definitely be 10/10 5*. Booking advised at busy periods such as weekend lunchtimes. The Sunday lunch was terrific! Great portions, the meat was fantastic, a great choice of sides to accompany the roast, extra gravy as standard. Simply wonderful. Dare I say the best roast I’ve had in a long time…? We shall certainly return.

It is one of the better roasts in the area with nice outdoor seating areas. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is that the cauliflower and cheese was watery as opposed to thick and cheesey, but the rest was satisfactory. Doesn't compare to the roasts in Brighton & Hove as we're spoilt down here, but as I said for the area, I've been twice and will return.

Lovely village pub , will definately visit again

Went two nights in a row as we were staying in our motorhome along the road. First night was curry night. Fab food and very reasonable. The steak on the second night was 2 for £30 plus a bottle of wine. Again...couldnt fault it. Lovely steak. Would definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed my first visit here , had a steak and stilton baguette with chips which was really nice. A traditional pub in a lovely village setting, will definitely return .

I and wife had a good dinner and drinks. The staff was very service to us. We will come again to here.

We went here for food and it was one of the the best steaks I have ever had. Not cheap but worth every penny. Great staff,very friendly and welcoming.

Table booked for 7.30pm got there and the table wasn't ready until 8pm. Meals were OK. Pudding huge disappointment. We all ordered raspberry mess sundae and not one raspberry in sight but plastered with raspberry sauce. Basically paid £7.50 for ice cream with raspberry sauce with a few pieces of meringue and some squirty cream on top.

Large fish and chips more like minnow fish will not be back in a hurry

No longer my favourite pub, used to love coming here for the homemade steak and stilton pie, it's no longer made in house but bought in from a butcher, smaller and without stilton but more expensive, just garden peas as well (used to get a few different veggies). The prawn salad was poor value for money aswell, just a shop bag of salad. Such a shame but we won't be visiting anymore.

Didn't have anything to eat. Coffe machine was playing up. Lovely venue.

Ate here on Sunday a few weeks ago. The Sunday roast was nice although the treacle pudding and custard I had was cold, which wasn't so bad as it was a sunny day anyway. Found the music a touch on the loud side and more suited to Saturday night than midday Sunday. I would go back and try again though.

Very nice Sunday lunch, soup was very nice mushroom and tarragon, and the roast beef dinner excellent 3 big peaces of beer and veg. Will come again 10/10

Always been happy with the meals and service but today… booked for 1pm got in early ordered meals at 1.10 and had to wait 50 mins for 2 meals! They served a table of 5 and a table of 6 that came in after us before us! Not happy and a free drink of Pepsi doesn’t cut it.

Loved their Sunday dinner and the nice and cosy atmosphere and kind staff. Highly Recommended!

First time visitor and can't fault this place. Great ambience, friendly and attentative staff....and cracking, well presented food too!! The fact my ex-neighbour travels from Kirkby-in-Ashfield to visit this place toosays a lot. Wish I'd visited sooner, but will definitely be coming back.

Excellent service and friendly staff once again. The 8oz rump steak was delicious served with chips, tomatoes and onion rings topped with peppercorn sauce. If you are yet to visit The Stanhope, you don't know what you're missing!

Won’t be rushing back any time soon. Came last night for a meal with my wife. Her lasagne had hard pasta and what looked like half a block of cheese on top which made it all greasy. My steak - asked for it medium and I think the kids of life would have brought it back. Such a shame as we have had some lovely meals here. Think it’s more a place for a drink in future

Warm welcome for our party of 4 people and 4 dogs. We had 3 different beers all in excellent condition.

Nice food, clean place. Our table was very small and you felt you were sitting on top of each other... a bit disappointing.

Good quiet when we arrived had a snack and a drink, plenty of choice, a bus load came in on a surprise mystery pub crawl was funny, they had no idea where they were, and all were very friendly, would recommend pub,, goid ambience and food

Lovely pub in a lovely village in a lovely area of Derbyshire between Ilkeston and Sandiacre. This was 3rd visit and first review after eating on all occasions, each of which were very nice meals in a traditional village pub. Some nice quirky features inside, good beer selection, plenty of gins and a menu to cater for many with daily specials. On this occasion, went for the lunch sourdough baguette stuffed with steak and blue cheese. Really nice and not too expensive. Baguette and pint of Blue Moon £12. I must remember to go back for other visits, maybe even to use the function room one day, if I can think of a reason. Dogs are welcome inside although a new outdoor seating area has popped up around the side. Parking for pub is across the road.

Nice pub to enjoy a Bite to eat after a country walk,outside seating lovely ,the Sunday lunch was very nice it included proper mash roast potatoes seasonal vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding a dish of cauliflower cheese was served separate with extra gravy (always a bonus) not bad priced either at £11.99 or the option for two or three courses only minimal moan is the cauliflower cheese was a bit hard(don’t let that put you off ) We will definitely be back to sample some other items of the menu including leaving some space for dessert Really nice friendly staff

Very dissapointed today as we have often come to this villiage to eat last time was not good but this time was terrible sunday dinner which was not good working in kitchens myself i do know my food . First of all the beef was that tough it was hard to cut, cauliflower cheese was in parts cold, yourkshire pud was stale and cold which they did change . best bit was the gravy. Also staff didnt seem interested at all and did not listen properly to our order which one dinner was just with peas. We decided we wont be going to this pub for food again after going for last 10 years .

Went for lunch and we liked the food, which arrived promptly and very hot. The place needs a bit of a face lift but all in all we enjoyed our visit. By the way... the toilets were very clean and in good working condition 🙂. Well done.

Very disappointing after reading the reviews, we all had Sunday lunch and much of it was burnt, the meat was very nice and the veg and cauli cheese was OK but the roast potatoes and Yorkshire were burnt. To add insult to injury what a disgraceful rip off being charged £1.50 for a dash of lemonade (and it really was just a dash, not even a glass full) absolutely shocking, even a full bottle of the most expensive lemonade is only £1... Suffice to say we won't be visiting again and definitely do NOT recommend

Our family went to the Stanhope last night 11th June, there was 14 of us the service was impeccable, the staff friendly and the food was beautiful, no waiting for the food 14 meals came through together, nothing was too much trouble, the Occasion was my sister's 70th birthday, would definition go back again and recommend , thank you to the staff.

Nice little pub...had a pleasant lunch there. It's made the best of its outside space for seating.

Been to the Stanhope a number of times. Usually always great. Today not so.... we ordered our starters which were great nice and hot really tasty. We then ordered 2 x mains both which came with Yorkshire Puddings. Both our Yorkshire Puddings were burnt obviously been in the oven too long and had caught. We asked if these could be replaced as they were burnt this was done but replaced with two more burnt yorkshire puddings. When paying we mentioned this to the girl behind the bar to which she said on sorry , yeah they were burnt weren't they i can see them from here. And that was it ! It would appear that they just didnt care. Customer service today is shocking and after the last few years you would have thought they would make sure everything was spot on so that you'd be more than happy to return....

Like it but bit expensive for our budget
