Lovely thatched roof pub, with friendly staff, serving great food.

Had a lovely roast dinner. It was beautiful, the only thing was it didn't come with the Yorkshire pudding. I asked the waitress why and she said they had ran out, but that didn't put us off as it was plentiful and really really nice.

Fantastic pub, excellent food. Great drinks Outstanding service by a young guy was helping from the minute we entered, until leaving he couldn't do more if he tried spot on definitely with visit again 👍 Highly recommended

A great pub, the beer garden is excellent and you can see rolling hills of Leicestershire. A true gem on a summer day, with blue sky.

I booked the Skittle Alley and a cold buffet for a celebration with 70 guests last weekend. It was a really great occasion and I've had lots of positive feedback about the venue and the buffet from happy guests. The main buffet was plentiful with a range of sandwiches, savoury snacks and at least six gateau for dessert and good value for money. The management and staff were unfailingly helpful and friendly from start to finish - great people to deal with.

Lovely food can't wait go again

We met some friends at this lovely thatched pub for lunch on a quiet weekday. We all enjoyed our three course meal chosen from a varied menu comprising British and worldwide dishes. The food was served hot by attentive and polite staff. Prices were very reasonable. They serve draft zero percent draft lager which is perfect for drivers. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating and a large free car park. We would have no hesitation in coming here again.

Location, location, location - stunning views from an excellent beer garden

Very friendly pub staff made you feel welcome and the price of the drinks was good too. Some pubs charge way too much and you just don't go back but I'll go back here. We didn't eat but it all looked great and the view from the garden was wonderful. Well done landlord and staff.

The dinner was delicious and quick service and will come again when in the area. The Rose and Crown has changed since I visited last year. It looked bigger and more tables.

Had Sunday dinner half roast chicken, very disappointed chicken was overcooked and dry. Portions where small, two roast potatoes, had to order more at a cost.

I went for a Sunday lunch and had absolutely no complaints. The staff was lovely, despite being understaffed that day the service was so quick! The Sunday roast was delicious and cauliflower cheese was perfect. The value for money is also amazing! Definitely would recommend and return again.

Brilliant pub with amazing food, best beer garden in leicester with great views. Ideal for the summer nights. Regular live entertainment on and a great function room for all occasions.

Ordered the half roast chicken with peas chips and gravy, however, I think it must have been finished off in a microwave ? Very rubbery and skin was soggy and pale. Not what I expected at all.

Perfect for a spot of lunch and a catch up with friends. It was half way between the two of us and we had a dog and child with us. We had a lovely lunch and the child’s chicken nuggets were fresh chicken breast in batter and not heavily processed. We were able to enjoy several hours of catching up with no pressure from staff to leave. A very pleasant experience and we now have a new half way meeting place.

Visited on Friday evening with the family, nice cozy pub with good food. Had scampi and chips was beautiful. Wife a hunters chicken which she said was amazing.

Held my daughter's 18th party there on 27th October and ordered the cold buffet.... It was absolutely brilliant....staff were great, the buffet was fantastic and a great time was had by all ... Thank you for a great night!!!!!

Rose and Crown was beautiful and had a lovely menu I went on a sunny and had the Sunday manu in was delicious and a was out of my mind the lovely gamon was perfect we sat inside for the first part for dinner table service was quick and nice after dinner we sat outside for a lovely drink you can see for miles all the lovely fields with horses below Flowers surround you All together 5 stars I suggest this to all people and family's -j williamson

Great food and very friendly staff

Food was quite good but the tables you eat at are appalling, bacteria city in the grooves of the tables. The man that served us at the bar was not friendly at all. Lovely outside area with wonderful views just a shame about the inside.

Not been for a meal but going this week

Popped up for a drink Sunday evening. Met at the bar by a chap who was chatting with what seemed to be regulars. I asked him how he was and he snapped “we aren’t doing food” I replied that’s fine we are just here for a drink to which he looked my partner and I up and down. And proceeded to serve us with a very lack lustre energy in comparison to how he spoken with the what seemed to be regulars. The whole time he didn’t speak to us presented the card machine and piped up saying £11.60. I said thank you to which he ignored and once approved turned to speak to his regulars. My partner being covered in tattoos and myself perhaps not hitting the demographic of the area felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome and to be frank won’t be returning. As a long term hospitality worker I found it profoundly rude and unwelcoming as opposed to a staff member flustered due to being busy.

I honestly do not want to leave a rating. When arriving it was busy which was understandable for a Friday evening but when arriving with one of our parties in a wheelchair it seemed to be a problem with the staff! I overheard at the bar when ordering drinks that the staff were complaining that someone was in a wheelchair. When trying to order food the waitress seemed reluctant to take any orders from us saying it is very busy, yet others around where ordering food with no problem. We left disgusted by the lack of hospitality!!!!

This pub is half in Thurnby and half in Bushby with lots of history. Good food and a Skittles alley.

We invited 40 family and friends to join us for lunch at the Rose and Crown to celebrate a 70th birthday. Everyone was catered for, the food delicious, plentiful and hot. This included children vegan vegetarian and gluten free options. The staff were helpful and attentive, nothing being too much trouble. Thank you to all we would definitely recommend

This pub gets better and better,picturesque from arrival outside (great parking) stunning building to inside ,to amazing beer garden.Great passionate well established management team running it that are genuine,lovely and adore the pub that they run.The food is great quality and prepared with love.During busy periods they always seem to cope well and keep standards high.Lovely beers and the Gin selection is something else!well worth a visit!!!My favourite country pub by far,my favourite pub full stop!!

Not reviewed this place for a while so thought i would put together some current and up to date thoughts on most recent experience as places can and do vary over time.... Dropped in on a Friday evening for a pint or two and an evening meal with my nephew,they have some great new beers in and i tried the recently introduced at this pub beer called "Madris"? Its a really fresh tasting imported lager and i must say really hit the spot on a Friday!Beer was perfect temperature in a branded glass and served to our table...wonderful on a Friday eve! For eats- We both had the same- Sausage and chips,beans( with a couple of extra fried eggs), I realise this is a simple choice but..... the eggs were cooked to perfection...!! yellow and runny in middle and deffo of a very high quality (Im sure local farm sourced??) ,the chips were freshly cut and and cooked perfectly,crisp,hot and tasty..... and the sausages were great quality ,meaty and very good (i would wager they are from a local butcher?).So although it was a relatively "simple" meal we both wholeheartedly agreed it was made and prepared with real love to a very high standard and totally delicious,a true example of "get the simple things right first".= SUPERB!! The atmosphere in the pub was fantastic really upbeat,very busy and the sizable staff were genuine,unstressed, and super freindly and circulated regularly,keen to make sure we had everything we needed and that we had a good time,this was a real and very appreciated positive. This traditional English country pub is STILL really superb and yet constantly evolving and moving forwards and i really cannot wait for my next visit and also the nice weather so we can sit in the lovely beer garden again.Pub decor is constantly improving for those with a keen eye with little tweaks,updates and decorations added constantly,the management team really put visable constant and consistent love and attention into this pub and as i might have said in a previous review its a real asset to the village and local area,in a nutshell the experience gets better and better. Double thumbs up.

We often book for a Friday evening as a couple. The staff are friendly, remember our drinks order without being prompted and are happy to seat us at the table we prefer. The food is of good quality and reasonably priced. It also always arrives promptly. We have tried several items from the menu and have been impressed with all of them. The views from the beer garden are lovely.

Four of us went for lunch on Wed 14th Dec, we sat at table number 13, we all enjoyed the food which was very good, the service was also very good, the place was very clean, so keep up the good work, we will be coming back again soon

Was here with six friends,service was not great four out of seven mains they did not have no rice to go with curry ,sauce for steak followed ten minutes after steak and staff had no idea what they were doing but company was great fun

Had there been anywhere else to go we would have left. The staff clearly don't want to be there and the service reflected this. They had run out of almost everything on the menu. There are better places around so I really would not recommend it.

Went here with six friends on Thursday 8th of December ,what a joke four out of seven mains they had not got the steak sauce followed 10 minutes after steak, no rice to go with curry staff all looked three sheets to wind ,will not be going back in a hurry

Recently worked at the pub and sampled some of the food, it was beautiful. The pub is lovely and the outside seating area has great views 👌. Highly recommend. Dave

The Barwoman was fantastic, however as the customers were shouting and creating loads of noise, it kinda ruined my experience at the pub

16 of us came for Sunday roast today and it was outstanding. To start with we had missed 2 people off the booking and the staff happily added an extra table for us, then they quickly took our drink order, followed by our food order shortly afterwards. Everything came out spot on, the food was amazing, and plenty of it. My children cleaned their plates and asked for more, the same with puddings. Can’t fault it, we will be back! Thank you very much!

We visited yesterday to eat as a table of 12. The service was none existent! No welcoming! Had to ask for menus & even then was given 5 paper menus “due to covid” so we had to share! Bar staff just ignore you & don’t talk to you like they usually do in village pubs! Food was ok for the others, but my chicken was vile! Supposed to be Roast chicken but was microwaved & have had stomach cramps for 24 hrs! We’ve been many times before & has been great, but I will not be returning! Maybe it’s changed hands?!

what has gone wrong with this place i no it has been a long time since the last i was there but has it gone down hill it was a place i loved but ho what have you done to it sorry but your Sunday lunch was i feel the worst i have ever had come on pull your socks up folks

Having looked through the menu We decided on a fish and chip supper with mushy and a drink of ginger bear there was a good size fish and the chips were cooked perfect, on line it mentioned that you need to book but we just turned up there is plenty of car parking room and the pub is decided into two with the restaurant one side bar the other, it's a traditional country pub with beams and open fire would be a great visit in the winter when it's snowy outside would have been a 5 if the fire was going as it was frosty outside having said that we will be back for another visit when it's snowing

It's OK service wasn't great no check back had to ask waitress to take our pudding order and more drinks cleared table whilst I was still eating and only a few people in pub also the drama of kitchen staff walking out and customer compliant being joked about at till after they had left has put us off from returning food was ok but not a great sunday roast

Took our mum for her 83rd birthday, 7 of us ,girl came and took our food and drinks orders,all were brought out together apart from 1,staff seemed to be laughing behind the bar when they noticed one was missing then I was told sorry your order was on the back of the ticket so wasn't looked at ,waited around 15 mins then asked the girl how long it would be as everyone else had nearly finished theirs,was told 10 minutes so i told her to forget it altogether, another drinks order was took which were all wrong when she brought them, we decided to take our drinks into the garden ,after 10 minutes a bar man came out and told us we couldn't sit outside if we had a tab and that his boss had sent him out to tell us,then the boss came out and we were made to feel like we were about to do a runner even with an 83 year old with us,was also embassing in front of other customers,rude staff who haven't got a clue what they're doing ,NEVER AGAIN

I went here on Tuesday with a friend for a drink. 7pm ish. We went to the the little bar around the side and wait 10/15mins and nobody came (even though a staff member saw us). So we around to the 'main' bar. Waited at one side if the bar for about 10/15 minutes for the lady at the bar to tell us to move over to the other one because it wasnt working. Lots of customers unhappy at this point, all being squashed together and messed about. Finally got to order drinks (service not good- staff not very friendly to be honest and a bit like zombies who didnt want to be there. esp the 2 women). My friend waited about 10 minutes for his drink to then be told the barrel needed changing and then was given the wrong beer!! At this point he didnt care because he just wanted a drink and to relax!! He ordered food, waited 30/40mins. It was okay but not really worth it. All in all, it's a real shame because it's a nice pub, my first visit and heard good things. We wont be returning or bringing families etc. Also- atmosphere was rubbish- no music and no real vibe. :(

Came as a party of seven to celebrate two birthdays ordering six roast beef meal’s for myself I ordered the nut roast, which was a small portion of very dry nut roast, all the beef roast meals that came out was very tough Communication regarding the complaint was very poor and left to the poor waitress to deal with while manager and chef stayed in the back would not recommend Rose and Crown and will not be going back

Seven of us went for Sunday lunch to celebrate 2 birthdays. Six went for roast beef and one the nut loaf. The nut loaf was very dry & the beef was sooooo tough that we gave up on trying to cut it so left most of it. When we mentioned to waitress she said she would “tell the manager. The manager never bothered to come to speak to us so when we went to pay we mentioned it again and were told “she’s sorting it out now!” We waited and when waitress returned she told us the cook said the meat is tough because it’s pink and that’s how the beef is cooked here. We said it but it isn’t pink and that in March when a party of 45 of us were here celebrating another birthday the meat and meal were lovely The waitress said she was really sorry and the manager said we could have a soft drink. I told her the manager should have the decency to come and speak directly and not leave it to her. It will be the last visit to the Rose and Crown by any of us and we will be taking our custom elsewhere for our large celebration parties

Went here for lunch with friends today. Two of us chose the ham, egg and chips and one chose prawn ciabatta. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We all felt that it was certainly excellent value. We will return soon.

Walk past, always smells like dirty cooking oil. If you actually dare to venture in food tastes the same no matter what you have. Boring plain food doesn’t taste of anything, unless you love the taste of cooking oil. Manager clicks his fingers at bar staff. Really thinks he’s something. Used to be better years ago when it was a proper pub.

Nice setting, beautiful old building. Friendly staff, went for lunch and the food was OK nothing special not what you'd call particularly tasty.
