Firstly, the review below is FAKE made by a jealous local person. Type in “pube in fish photo” into google to see the original photo from South Africa in 2022!! Some people really are pathetic. Now - for a REAL review! We’ve just moved to Saddington & thought we’d try out the new local on Valentine’s Day. My husband and I didn’t have the luxury of a child free night so we took along our 7 & 5 year olds for an early doors dinner & drinks. I have to say all of the bar staff were extremely welcoming (especially considering we are newbies in the area!), very chatty & the owner even let me try her home brewed gin!! What an amazing offering from a local pub, I can’t wait to try more. Our food was delicious & the kids menu provided plenty of suitable options. I can see there are lots of interval updates taking place including a lovely new snug area next to the open fire. I was also told they’ll be building a Viking ship in the large beer garden for the kids to play on! We can’t wait for summer drinks with entertained kids. As it was an event, there was also live music which was brilliant. I hear the owners plan to host more events like this which we can’t wait to attend. Highly recommended, try it for yourselves!

When trying a new menu I always order the risotto and side of chips as getting a risotto right takes skill , my portion was massive , tasty subtle flavours and burning hot , the chips were flavour some not the normal run of the mill chips. Having got out confidence we had a dessert which rivalled the mains in quality. The added bonus was the buy one get one free on Wednesday 1800-20.00 Service was friendly but not overpowering. There were people in the bar which was nice as it added to the atmosphere, the music was eclectic which is a positive no plincky plonky tunes Having read previous reviews it shows the landlord and lady have learnt from the criticism and acted on it.

This was my first visit since the pub has changed hands. Such a disappointment. We went for the Sunday lunch, the food was poor and the manager was rude making us feel unwelcome. We won't be returning.

We recently attended for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. Well presented, nicely cooked fresh food to die for. Furthermore the excellent team went above and beyond to cater for our very fussy 14 year old. The atmosphere was very welcoming (as always) and the whole of the team are helpful and friendly. Thank you all. Highly recommended.

Wanted to give this pub a second chance as it's our local and Id love it to be great. The owners have decorated and the 'pub' part of the restaurant looks cosy. A definite improvement credit where it's due. Sadly the miserable man behind the bar in a queens head hoodie growled at me on entry which somewhat ruined the effect! Things got worse when I ordered a Sauvignon blanc to be given a rose and I was then told that I was wrong and he was right. I'm pretty sure blanc means white in French so I think I can safely say I was not the one in the wrong. Ordered food, still very expensive and mediocre. Not awful but nothing special either. I live a few doors down and want a local I can support but sadly despite all the hype this place is a bit of a damp squib!

Since the new owners have taken over, this pub has completely transformed into a top-tier spot that ticks every box. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by an incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional team that sets the tone for a fantastic experience. The snug area, which used to feel a little outdated, has undergone an amazing transformation. It’s now beautifully designed with high-quality materials, offering a warm and cosy atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for hours. The best part? It’s extremely dog-friendly, which is a huge bonus for pet owners like us. There’s also a lovely restaurant section for those who prefer to dine without their furry friends. As for the food, we’ve tried the steak, cod, and cheesy chips so far, and every dish has been nothing short of outstanding. Each meal comes out piping hot, bursting with flavour, and presented to perfection. You can really tell they’re committed to quality and great dining. The owners also host a variety of events, which add a lot of character and fun to the place. We had a blast at the quiz night and are already looking forward to the sixties night this weekend. There's also new, comfy seating with a chess set, which has been a hit with my son. I really don’t understand the negative comments I’ve seen – our experiences here have been nothing but positive. This pub is a gem, and I honestly cannot fault it in any way. Highly recommend checking it out!

Burger very expensive service nothing to shout about didn’t get the Viking’s table bit . No atmosphere very quiet I don’t get the cost n service for a little out if the way country pub it don’t add up the folks want hungry horse type price n service it’s not London tourist area but it is London prices it’s a village pub at end if day I was here 4 years ago with mrs n it was very good don’t know what’s gone wrong 😑

Lovely pub with lots of potential but food very overpriced! Have visited a couple of times since new owners but the food whilst ok is not worth the extortionate prices! Had a Sunday roast £22-25 and only 2 roast potatoes! By far the most expensive Sunday lunch around and a stingy portion! Worth £15 absolute tops. Waitress on duty was fantastic and very friendly especially with the grandchildren! Attempted another visit to see if the day to day menu was better. This time I had the burger £22 and my wife had the sausages. Both tasted good but £17.50 for bangers and mash is daylight robbery! Nothing on the menu for less than £17.50 which rules out many potential customers! Sadly unless they decrease the prices I think this will be another flop! Definitely not affordable for people who want to pop in for some decent value pub grub and it is not special or high quality enough for a treat either! I'm happy to pay the price if the food is good enough and the portion size generous which neither were. Shame as the pub itself is lovely but I can't see these, the 3rd owners in 12 months lasting unless they have a serious rethink of their prices.

Visited this pub over Christmas with the family. Lovely building with great view of reservoir and fantastic front of house staff. They couldn't have been more welcoming and were dog friendly! A decent drinking pub. The problem is the price and the poor quantity food. Portions are tiny, meat was fatty and chewy. The quality is not as high as the price. I couldn't swallow it! My wife had the curry and said it was revolting and left it uneaten! The burger was dry, tiny with about 4 chips! The food was overpriced! We had to get a McDonald's on the way home to fill us up! Good pub for drinkers not so great for foodies!

Amazing staff and great atmosphere!

Visited for 1st time under new owners and slightly underwhelmed. Food was good but very understaffed with only 1 person doing everything and the whole pub was freezing cold. Having to eat with your coat on is a bit extreme and one customer even had a wholly hat on. Spoilt the whole experience.

A Hidden Gem in Saddington! I recently visited The Queen's Head and was thoroughly impressed. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere made for a great dining experience, and the food was fantastic — from classic pub dishes to delicious specials. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Whether you're stopping by for a drink or a full meal, this charming pub is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

Just had a very disappointing experience at the Queens. And will not be going back again. If that's how you treat people you need to find a different trade.

Now understand why they call it the Vikings Table, they rape and pillage your wallet for totally poor food, poor service and no compassion for being so poor. Perhaps the poorest Richard Everard establishment.

Visiting my mum for Christmas and came in for the first time after ownership had changed. Fantastic pub, the landlords are lovely and have a heart of gold. Lovely atmosphere, lovely cold pints and a real traditional yet inviting feel.

We used to love this pub. It was cosy, friendly with amazing food. We didn’t realise that it was under new management until we called in for lunch today. It wasn’t busy but the service was chaotic. There were Christmas menus on the table. The guy serving us said they were serving the normal lunch menu too but menus hadn’t been printed yet. We were advised to Google the menu. The guy himself couldn’t find the menu on his phone and neither could my husband. When I did eventually find the online menu it wasn’t the lovely imaginative menu that used to be available. It was average pub grub. We decided on fish and chips but when we ordered we were told that they had no fish. All a bit of a disaster really. We had our drinks which were nice. The pub also had nice table decorations and balloon arches. We would rather have good food than balloon displays though. Sadly after eight years, we will not return.

Recommended this gem of a pub and I was not disappointed. The standards are high from the start and the food was exceptional. We got the Christmas menu with twists on the classic menu items, alongside some mouthwatering special items. Oh and the roast potatoes are outstanding. Chris Hemsworth levels of amazing if you ask my partner. The staff are friendly and welcoming and got to take my hat off to the chefs for the feast we enjoyed. Cannot wait for my next visit!

Lovely pub and lovely atmosphere ! Amazing views from the bear garden looking over Saddington Resovoir. There’s a park outside for the kids to play too.

We all left underwhelmed and will be unlikely to recommend which is a shame as we really wanted this place to be a regular go to for our group. The fish was well cooked but was a small portion. Two of us opted for dessert as we were still hungry after the main courses but over- priced desserts were nothing special. The recommended sticky toffee pudding wasn't anything special and the banana cake was left half eaten. Not only was this not mentioned when the bill was brought over but the dessert plates weren't cleared away. We were offered the bill before we asked for it and as the only table eating it felt like we were being asked to leave, as candles around us were blown out. The bar was busier and the staff were nice so it was a shame but yeah, that was our evening. We wanted it to be better and hope the feedback is used to make the changes needed. We were told mead will be available soon and a viking themed menu is in the pipeline so fingers crossed going forward but not the start for the place we had hoped for. Bit disappointing really.

No he visitado en un par de años, pero estábamos bastante cerca, así que decide darle una oportunidad. Bueno, no volveremos, vaciar solo dos empleados (eran buenos). Es una pena porque solía ser un lugar bonito, pero parece que otro muerde el polvo.

Reservé este lugar para la cena del 90 cumpleaños de mi madre. Llamé e hice los arreglos unas 5 semanas antes del evento y pasé algún tiempo discutiendo arreglos como asientos, vino, opciones vegetarianas, etc. Dejé mi nombre y número de móvil y me sentí muy feliz de que lo hubieran entendido todo. Llamé 3 días antes del evento solo para confirmar todo solo para que me dijeran que tenían un problema en la cocina y que no estaban sirviendo comida. Cuando pregunté por qué no me habían contactado, ¡dijeron que no estaba en el calendario! Qué pesadilla me quedé intentando reorganizar todo con 3 días de antelación, y qué suerte que decidí consultar con ellos. Terrible atención al cliente.

The pub has recently come under new management, and unfortunately, my first dining experience was quite disappointing. I ordered a beef burger, a straightforward dish, but it was overcooked and lacked creativity, with just raw onion and some sauce as the filling. On a subsequent visit, we considered eating there again and were pleased to see a Mexican-themed menu, which I typically enjoy. However, when passing by the kitchen, I noticed it appeared disorganised and unhygienic, which deterred us from dining there. It's unfortunate, as this is our local pub, but the atmosphere now feels somewhat bland and lacks the charm you'd expect from a country pub. On a positive note, Frankie at the front of the house is fantastic—welcoming, attentive, and excellent with customers. I hope the pub sees improvement over time. Revisited 6.9.24 Absolutely horrendous experience. The food came out cold, which was shocking considering how long it took. It was nothing like what was described on the menu – a completely different dish altogether. The portion was small, flavorless, and definitely not what I expected knowing basic tapas dishes such as patatas bravas.It felt like zero effort was put into it. I felt sorry for the staff having to serve what was prepared and I believe the general manager is the chef so I'm not sure feedback is given due to hierarchy. I didn't take a picture of everything but here is the prawn dish....never again.

Very disappointing, had a roast, it was over cooked and dry, I have never had to pay extra for mash before, even the ice cream with the desert was unpleasant, took a long time for the food to arrive, we were there for nearly three hours, the cheap looking paper menus were full of mistakes, it's not really surprising the place was fairly empty on a bank holiday, the young ladies serving were nice and friendly tho, we certainly won't be returning anytime soon.

Up until 6 to 8 weeks ago, give stars across the board. Under new management and sadly shows. Menu reduced from extensive to 4 choices, food overcooked, no diet drinks available, no desserts. It really shows as barely anyone goes there. Such a shame

Very poor experience, what a shame this has been taken over by a new manager. This use to be a superb pub, great atmosphere and our favourite for Sunday lunch, in fact any meal! Now it has a very limited menu, poor Sunday lunch for £17.50. Someone ordered a salad main course that was the size of a starter and it looked a sad limp salad . Limited soft drinks available or out of stock - no Diet Coke, no soda water and no diet lemonade. Two waiting staff very apologetic but not their fault. Felt sorry for them. Won’t be going back so off to find a replacement venue elsewhere.

Oh dear, we’ve been using the Queen’s Head for many years as our go-to for Sunday lunch, No more. I booked on Friday evening hoping to get a table for Sunday lunch at what is a very busy and popular venue. Surprisingly I was offered any time convenient and opted for 1:30 pm. I was surprised on arrival to see just a couple of families in the garden area and just one couple in the outside seating and dining area. Entered the restaurant area and it was deserted except for a party of three who appeared almost ready to leave. Usually it is packed! We stood for several minutes until a young man, one of only two staff in view asked if we had a reservation, the young lady we have known for a few years was running around like a chicken with its tail feathers on fire trying to keep up, her colleague seemed unsure of what he was supposed to be doing too. One of our group ordered a Lime & Soda only to be told they had no soda, a Diet Coke was requested but when second was requested they had no more. A Lemonade was then ordered as a substitute only to be told they had no more lemonade - in fact no ’diet’ drinks at all The menus looked severely curtailed and were poorly presented on one side of a flimsy A4 page with not even any options for dessert! Furthermore if you wanted mashed potato or cauliflower it was a further £3.50 per portion. When the food arrived and whereas previously separate bowls of vegetables had been provided today everything was heaped on the plate. Quite how an absolute gem has sunk so low and so quickly after the landlord moved on, seemingly with most of the staff, defies belief! If it wasn’t a part of Everards chain I’d suspect they were ‘on stop’ with suppliers! It used to be a well driven road every three or four weeks but I can say hand on heart the charm is broken!

Changed hands for the worse . Menu choices on A4 printout poor . Charged 3.50 for mash as an extra for Sunday Lunch? . Goats cheese salad small as in a starter size but serves and priced as main. Food overdone . No staff and surprisingly empty ! Used to be our regular - oh and no soda or diet drinks of any kind… I could go on it will be closed in 6 months what a shame .

Very friendly welcome, great service. The chunky chips are devine. We had a really nice evening with beer and snacks. Will definitely call again to sample the menu.

Three of us had Sunday lunch in June '24 The roast beef was excellent and good value, the young chap serving us was pleasant and helpful. A good village pub.

Came in for Sunday Lunch and it did not disappoint! Food was incredible with lots of variety, even for those with allergies which you don't see very often. Lots of drinks to choose from also. Staff were very friendly and welcoming creating a warm atmosphere. The view's from the pub are also one of many reasons to stop by even for a drink. Will 10000% be back very soon!!

Disappointing. Never previously been the case. Can’t quite put my finger on what was going on today. Unwelcoming. Non atmospheric. In fact could sense an ‘atmosphere’ staff wise. Food (Sunday lunch) average at best. Manager ??? (Questionable as was in crocs and shorts, unlike other staff in black) was moving tables about ,slamming cutlery down with no consideration for existing diners eating their meal. Not worth the price @ £18.95 main and £22.95 for 2 course. Didn’t hang around. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe it’s gone downhill towards the reservoir. Sadly won’t be rushing to return.

This is a really good local pub. I mainly drink here rather than eat, but I've had many good meals too over the years. Good selection of beers, excellent bar staff and they have very good taste in music too ;)

Nipped in for a drink while waiting to collect my daughter. 4 options of lager but only one apple cider which was off. 3 staff behind the bar they still had to be prompted to get served. Restaurant possibly welcoming bar no chance awkward bar area.

Went for a meal early Saturday evening. The restaurant was full (we had booked in advance) but as it only seats perhaps 30 or so people it didn't feel noisy or crowded. Food was amazing - everything cooked and presented to perfection. Best meal out I've had in a long time and at an amazingly reasonable price considering the outstanding quality.

Cold and weary, five of us descended on the Queens Head for a late Sunday lunch. Ambience, service and food quality were all excellent. We had a variety of drinks from the bar before the meal, and then enjoyed a range of starters and for the most part, a roast for main with a great selection of veg, enormous yorkshire's and thick lovely gravy. This was followed by several desserts which were shared round - as you do! very reasonable prices as well, so you don't need a second mortgage to enjoy a lovely meal with a couple of drinks. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area and fancy the thought of a hearty meal from the 'wholesome home cooking' style menu.

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch halfway round our walk yesterday. Made very welcome in ourwet walking gear. Food & beer was top notch.

What a disappointment the Festive menu Christmas dinner was . Hard roast potatoes, rubbery yorkshire puddings, raw stuffing a very strange square of sausage meat masquerading as a pig in blanket and watery gravy and not a cracker insight. Plus the restaurant was freezing not a very festive atmosphere having to eat lunch with your coat on!

Some friends and I went to The Queens Head in Saddington for an evening meal. It was our first ever visit. The food was excellent, as was the service, prices were very good, and the atmosphere was friendly. The steak and ale pie was scrumptious! The premises were clean, well decorated and tidy. Toilets were clean. Lots of car park spaces off road. A very impressive restaurant, selling a good selection of beers. We'll definately be back for more!

An incredible Sunday lunch. We had roast beef and it was a huge portion with plenty of veg, all perfectly cooked. Superb, friendly service. Our meal came out super quick and was piping hot. Highly recommended and book ahead as it gets very busy

Well suited with plenty of parking though you do need to be careful leaving as near a bend. Great food and the staff were friendly and professional. A relaxed atmosphere and a leisurely lunch with add on requests were no problem for staff. We enjoyed our visit and will no doubt return.

Came here from the local campsite on a Friday. Not very welcoming, very loud locals at the bar, and menu was very overpriced for just average sounding pub grub. Also didn't seem to have a kids menu?? Walked out after just 20 minutes to go somewhere else!

Had a fantastic meal last night. The chicken ragu dish was excellent and full of flavour. All staff were friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Will definitely be going back.

Found this pub at the end of a rather long walk. Lovely atmosphere. We sat by the log burner. Food ordered and came very quickly. Food fantastic. Had a sandwich with chips and salad. Sadly don't have a photo. I gad the hot turkey, cranberry and Stuffing. Yummy

popped in for Sunday lunch, good friendly service and the food was amazing. Great starters followed by roast lamb and the kids loved their puddings.

Wednesday last Sunday and and had a dreadful Experience Service was Slow they advertise children eat Free if a pay a paying adult is having having a 2 course which I did But only got one child free when asked when asked management management why the the service was slave was slow and that I wasn't I wasn't happy he said said I'll take it on the chin What a shocking response to a complaint

We stumbled across this little gem last night. The kerbside appeal was what drew us in initially. The inside did not disappoint! The food was absolutely out of this world. The BEST roast dinner I have ever eaten and my 4yr old 'fussy eater' ate every bite of his burger and chips. My husband had the stuffed chicken breast, and he too polished it off. The staff were great. Welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Popped into this pub for a quick drink after a lovely walk from Saddington to Gumley and back. The pub is dog friendly. You have to take your boots off which is quite right. Dogs need to enter. The welcome was very warm. The beers were very nice. Great atmosphere and lovely chats with lots of other customers. We had a really lovely time. They offer their home made pies to take away. We weren't tempted but others said how good they were. We went in January so it was very cold outside and the children's play area was empty but it had lots of different rides.

Had a lovely visit to the Queen head for a spur of the moment dinner with the family. The food was really good and the service we had from the young waitress was very good. It was a homely feel due to the log fire and there was a sale on food which resulted in every one feeling full and sleep set by the fire.

Managed to get a pass out from the kids…so off to our local! Beautiful pie, mash and veg and a burger for the hubby. Couple of glasses of Merlot and a pint for him. Great service and a fabulous family pub. What more could you want?!? … And these views! 🖤

This is our “ go to “ place for Saturday lunch and never disappoints. So gorgeous sitting outside, overlooking saddington reservoir, with all the trees and flower in bloom . And the food matches the surrounds. Exceptional at all times. Thanks to Kai and staff.

Kai the manager and his team including Frankie really know how to look after guests. The setting is glorious overlooking the saddington reservoir so a huge plus after a long walk. The team are friendly and knowledgeable and understand their customers. Always ready to offer the extra drink without being pushy. It’s this balance that matters. Food is constantly excellent which makes it tus kind of place you want to come back to again and again !

Chose the Queens Head at Saddington after reading the reviews as it was a halfway point to meet our friends. Booked for Sunday lunch today and were definitely not disappointed. 3 courses for £19.95 and all 3 courses for all 4 of us were really lovely. Good food nicely presented, good price, nice pub, nice staff, good service. Couldn't fault it and will definitely go again.
