From start to finish the day was perfect Food was amazing every course and well presented too the staff are lovely and the service was excellent we were seated in our own little private booth which was perfect really enjoyed the whole experience and would not hesitate with going there next Christmas.

Great food great atmosphere and good fair pricing , we had the festive menu , which was lovely, plenty on the plate . We will be back . Also dog friendly in the bar area .

Perfect visit for Christmas Day. Every single member of staff were lovely, attentive and friendly. All staff seemed happy and the atmosphere was so nice. The added touch of a Christmas card to each reservation was so lovely (and annoyingly we forgot ours) I was concerned about how the vegan option would be but it was perfect. The visit was worth every penny.

Delicious Christmas lunch at The Yews, Lottie was an amazing server - so festive and friendly. Highly recommend. We will be returning next year.

Christmas catch up with friends. Food was excellent and despite the bar being extremely busy service was also good. Staff were attentive and friendly.

This was supposed to be a treat for my family and it wasn't really. Service was ok but as we were there for the Festive menu, we were the only table that didn't have crackers. I chose the traditional Christmas dinner and it really wasn't very nice. The rosemary potatoes didn't taste of anything and were clearly frozen. There was no red cabbage and this was replaced with a watery underdone piece of brocolli. The carrots were hard and didn't taste of anything. There were a few Brussells which were cooked quite well. The stuffing was just a slab and didn't seem to have any bacon wrapped around it. The whole meal was quite cold and very disappointing. I ordered the 'Melting Festive Bell' for pudding and it was stodgy and certainly in no way did it resemble a 'fondant!' The ice cream was ok. I suppose you will say, you should have told us, well my family don't like to make a fuss so rather than make things worse I said nothing. However, I will be very disappointed if my Christmas dinner on Wednesday is of that quality.

Came here a few years ago and food was lovely so thought we would try it for my wife’s birthday. Unfortunately the standard had dropped. After waiting almost an hour and half for our meals 4 out of the 8 meals had to be returned due to being cold. Definitely understaffed as also did not get asked if we wanted anymore drinks after the 1st round we had as soon as we got there. I don’t like leaving bad reviews and they did take the 4 meals off the bill but certainly won’t be going back.

Had a meal here with friends. It was very busy with large groups and the food took a while to come but it was very good on arrival. Will and Ash were spot on with the customer service and kept the drinks coming , a good time had by all thanks

Overpriced understaffed and the chef needs to learn how to cook steak. I ordered a medium fillet steak with salad. After an inordinate wait it arrived, I could have soled my shoes with the steak and the salad had no dressing. It went straight back and I won't be returning. 6 years on and against my better judgement came here for a family lunch organised by a family member - deep regret. After over an hours wait they produced a cold crispy chicken burger that I was unable to either bite into or cut with a knife. Together we spent £170 on 6 meals and drinks, we'd have been better off with a McChicken burger at a fraction of the cost.

First time we have visited the Yews and definitely will not be the last. A lovely atmosphere coupled with great service and tasty food we had a really good time.

We don't live locally, but visit the Yews almost every week and have always loved the staff, setting and food, it's been great everytime - always a cheery welcome from happy staff. However, the last couple of times we've visited it's just not been the same and the Yews has slipped from 5* to 3* in my opinion. There don't seem to be enough staff and the ones working don't look very happy. We had booked a table yesterday, when we arrived there were no staff in sight and we stood waiting 3 or 4 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Ash returned, picked up the menus and just walked off to the table, no 'please follow me', the wine I favour wasn't available so my hubby asked what would be a good alternative, Ash relied 'well it's personal choice', fortunately for me, I know what I like and ordered that, but a recommendation would have been nice. Food took a little longer than usual, but not an issue, it was as good as usual - we had the beef cheeks, a festive burger and childrens pizza. It makes me sad to give negative feedback, especially as we've had a great experience for years, we'll visit one more but if the service hasn't returned to the previous high standards it will be the last time.

Wish we didn’t bother! Me and my partner had a quiet night without the kids so decided to go for a meal here. Huge disappointment awful table service so much so that the landlady or manager had to take over our table as we just kept getting forgotten about the lady was lovely by the way, just to top of a slow night my partner has food poisoning now! Hes been so poorly and still had to go to work as he is needed to much at his job to be able to have the day off The food was shocking my mixed grill all tasted like dirty grill and my partners burger tasted like blood and was undercooked we’d only had a few bites of it really and then left and went shop to get something else to eat so at £94 for a few drinks and meal for two for my partner to have food poisoning we are pretty fuming to say the least! Will be avoiding this place now as we did nip there now and then when we had the chance gutted this place has gone downhill so much as it used to be great

Great Sunday lunch and service.

Popped in to the Yews after hearing about this place for ages, I finally managed to get here and try it out. What a beautiful looking restaurant. It is so warm and welcoming. Was warmly welcomed by Lotte and Kate. Both are always smiling and Kate is a find and asset to the place. If it wasn’t for her I probably wouldn’t have tried the specials. What can I say about the food. Amazing. 10 out of 10. I ordered of the special menu. To start was a wild boar scotch egg and it was cooked to perfection. The yoke still runny. Then I couldn’t resist the Game mixed grill. The duck just fell of the bone and melts in your mouth and venison steak was amazing. Compliments to the Head Chef Kyle and the kitchen team Overall I can not fault the place. Will definitely be back

Would definitely recommend! Lovely food, the portions were very generous. The decor and atmosphere was great. Staff were lovely and helpful. Plus they allow dogs! Can't wait to visit again!

Had a great time here. the food was very nice and tasty. The Signature Burger was very good and huge. The service was a little so, and we had to find a team member at the end to try and pay our bill. Otherwise, it would have been 5* Will definitely be back

The menu is wide enough to cover all ages and tastes. This with great friendly staff who are very helpful made it a very pleasant experience .

Came today with my husband and 2 children. Service was really slow and poor unfortunately. Had 1 drink and 1 main course and were there nearly 2 hours then add in dessert and the whike thing took 2.5 hours. Had to ask for extra drinks twice as first order wasn't put through aswell. So waited 30 mins for drinks. Food wasn't particularly special and not worth the wait to be honest. Won't be returning. Update 1.10.24- i appreciate the reply but you weren't that busy. There were several empty tables in the whole building. We won't be returning.

A good location, good food and friendly service, let down by appalling delivery. We had been there for nearly 45 minutes before our order was taken, and waited about as long again for our mains.

I’m delighted that I dined at The Yews with my family last night, Saturday 28 September 2024. It’s lovely to find a professionally managed restaurant that hasn’t lost its quaint English atmosphere. The whole venue is very clean, with the staff being attentive to all the details, which make The Yews worthy of being called Our Go-To Restaurant. On the whole the food was delicious and my family thoroughly enjoyed the sea bass, the Barbers Chicken, the belly pork and I devoured the vegetarian grill, and I’m not even a veggie! The starters and desserts were great too and if you like real ale then I can report that it has the best Abbot Ale I have drunk in a long time. Fortunately for me I don’t live too far away so another visit will be made soon. Thank you to Ash, the manager, especially as it was Ash’s first night as manager and to the lovely Lottie who just loved being thoughtful and helpful. You two and the Chefs made our family gathering a great one! John Cummins.

I lunch here whenever I visit family in the area. Lovely setting, particularly if you snag a garden window, a very decent menu, with a few chef specials, very pleasant and obliging service, and they always have a well kept ale to wet one's whistle upon arrival.

Superb meal and service! Squid starter and bbq chicken strips cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and tasted divine. Main courses of mixed grill and belly pork again both cooked to perfection and tasted divine. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I've had. The service from Mav was amazing too - thank you! Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anyone who hasn't been.

Very welcoming pub. Came in for midweek lunch. Nice choices on menus. We ordered a variety of starters, mains - all to come at same time. They were very accommodating. Very friendly service - Often in the area so will come again

We were hosted by mav and he was brilliant. So friendly and enthusiastic, and went over and beyond to serve us. The drinks and food were quickly brought to us, and we're top quality. Will definitely be returning again soon!

Business as usual,good food,welcoming staff and competetive prices just what you want,never felt short changed whenever i've been which is why we keep returning. Special mention for Lottie always a star.

Visited yesterday evening served by lottie but the place seemed short staffed although staff were chatting at the end of bar...ordered starter & main course...starter fine then 20 min delay to main course...even a sausage & mash meal went wrong burnt sausage turned around to make sure we didn't show burnt part ..then lottie almost asked for a tip .not the yews we know

Had a lovely mid week lunch, nice atmosphere, prompt service, delicious food.

Very disappointing meal. Vegetable grill, seemed to be chunks of frozen vegetables literally dry roasted with a side of barely boiled peas and oven chips. I asked for some dressing or olive oil and was told only rapeseed oil was available! £17.95! Shocking.

My and my friend went to the Yews for lunch, we were greeted by Will who was very welcoming. The food was served swiftly and very tasty.

Popped in this week for a quick lunch and it was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday lunchtime! (Always a good sign). Good value lunch menu options. We had scampi and chips, the salmon fishcake (very nice!) and from the main menu the steak and ale pie (really good pastry and a proper pie, not just meat in a bowl with a pastry lid!) Despite it being busy, staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. A lovely place and lots of cool little corners to sit. Lovely garden too. We didn't have time for coffee and desserts as we in a rush to get to an appointment, but will definitely come back. In fact I know we will, as I have just bought my Mum and her partner a Gift Card for their Birthdays to they can enjoy a meal together at Yews!

Had a lovely evening with friends for a birthday treat.we had a lovely window table as requested when booking.The service was good with pleasant efficient staff. The food was delicious and it was no problem to change a sweet as it had an ingredient one of the party couldn't eat. A very pleasant evening all round.

Absolutely brilliant pub/restaurant. Kerry and Elaine made us so welcome, providing that rarity that is good old fashioned customer service with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to make our day. The venue is stunning, lots of old world charm and lots of different areas, for an intimate experience, in a large venue. Food is fantastic and the chef actually understands what 'rare' streak is! Excellent selection of drinks, real ale kept in immaculate condition. Incredible value for money. Superb beer garden, again with well thought out different areas. Very classy decore, immaculately clean, great location, large car park and easy to find. Absolute gem, cannot recommend highly enough. Absolutely love Kerry and Elaine who are an absolute credit to the business! Top notch!

Want a pie go here, good filling with nice puff pastry. Prefer a smoother mash was a little dry but still enjoyed it. Always love the atmosphere

The service was also excellent we were made to feel very welcome by Cherise who served our table. She could not have been more friendly, helpful and professional in serving us. I came in the week to a work reunion. I noticed how friendly and accommodating the staff were. My first visit. I took my elderly mother their today. She is wheelchair bound. We wanted to sit in the garden due to nice recent weather. Threw the main entrance to back Garden there is a small step to the Garden. One of the members of staff offered to help with lifting the chair. That was very nice , however we decided to go round outside. My only critic is a ramp should be on Garden access. Despite that on entry or departure the staff members acknowledged us and acted friendly and welcoming. So a simple small adjustment could make a big difference. Notice to senior management!

We have just had the most delicious Sunday dinner. The beef melted in your mouth, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire pudding and roasties were delicious. Would highly recommend and definitely will be returning.

Second visit in 3 years, unfortunately experienced the same issues with service. Food was excellent, really tasty good food and initial service was good too. However when it started getting quiet we were forgotten about and had to go and find someone to ask for the bill. And then we had to go and find someone again to actually pay. We were ready to leave a tip but the poor service at the end stopped us. So unfortunately we won't be back anytime soon

We eat out a lot and, for us, The Yews stands out above other palces we visit. The staff are great, the food is always good and the welcome is lovely. The last few times we've been, Sam has been our server....what a credit to The Yews! He's so friendly, polite and helpful, definitely deserves 5*

Came on a busy Wednesday evening all the staff were Lovley but Sam was exceptional a credit to the company really caring and no ask was too big. Good was brilliant. Atmosphere was really Lovley lots of older couple eating and drinking.

Came on Sunday for a roast with the in-laws pub was very full all the staff seemed very friendly. Our server Sam was phenomenal really attentive and made sure our meals were up to standard. All the food was really hot, very tasty and came out in good time. Would highly recommend.

Lovely lunchtime meal with my wife. Food was great as always and the service was really good. Julie attended to all of her customers really well despite the problems the technology created for all of the staff.

Attended with family on a busy Saturday night. I had a vegetable platter for the first time ever after trying to ease off of meat. I absolutely loved it! The meals served to all of us looked delicious. The only criticism was the 1 hour wait between mains and pudding. However this wouldn’t put me off returning.

Lovely experience, the food was amazin as always. Our waiter Will did really well. We will definitely recomend it and be back.
