We were very disappointed with the service. We arrived and we greeted by a very nice young lady who took us to our table however we had a couple of issues with our food. When we raised our issues with the manager she dismissed them and refused to help at all. We asked for her name and she didn’t give it to us but her staff called us she was called Maggie.

Very disappointing visit. Asked to order drinks at the table as bar very busy with a wedding party. Then had to wait over 30 minutes for order to be taken. Service very poor and sloppy. Water spilt and left on the table. Roast potatoes missed off of all four plates. Liqueur coffee arrived spilt all down the glass and on the saucer. This was after waiting over 30 minutes again for two coffees and two whiskey’s. Won’t be in a hurry to return.

Went for Sunday Lunch to celebrate ours and my parents anniversary’s. On arrival there was a large wedding party taking photos just as you came through the door. ( This made getting to book in very difficult as even when politely asked to let us through they continued taking photos and blocking the entrance area. ( I understand that it is a wedding Venue but maybe a better idea to gather wedding parties away from the restaurant entrance) Once we were seated we waited an awful long time for our drinks , when they arrived the waitress proceeded to miss the water glass and pour all over the table! We had been asked that we sat and they brought drinks to us but would have been better to have purchased from the bar because we ended up having to chase our drinks. Service was slow and sloppy. Our mains arrived minus any of our party having roast potatoes. By the time we had managed to get somebody’s attention and ask for potatoes two of the party had nearly finished their meals. Onto Coffee which took over 30 minutes to arrive. My Tia Maria coffee arrived with 80% of the cream in the saucer and down the glass. I wasn’t even offered another napkin to mop the mess up! Good job I carry tissues! Considering what you pay for a Sunday Lunch the service and care was very mediocre.

Quite pricy for mediocre food and an almost bland, forgettable atmosphere. Billed as one of the better quality and certainly pricier restaurants in the area it should offer standout service and food, unfortunately neither were on offer. We ordered the chicken and prosciutto balottene, smoked pork strips with a side of fries. For dessert the Pina Colada posset and triple ice cream. A nice selection but everything was just a bit off. The chicken was overcooked and a little dry requiring a heavy coating of jus to be enjoyable. The fries had an overused oil taste... either the oil needed refreshing or the fryer wasn't hot enough. And the posset was more mousse and the shortbread was inedible leaving a rancid aftertaste. (One of the diners is a professional baker and she was far from impressed by this!) The pork strips were nice but not great, the same with the ice cream. All of this was raised with the waiting staff who seemed somewhat disinterested. The decor of the restaurant is ultimately forgettable and almost feels like a cheap knock-off of a chain restaurant. There's a few nice touches, the white gloves used when delivering food to the table is great (not seen since Silver Service training many moons ago), but its offset by the cheaply laminated drinks menus. It obviously wants to be a high class restaurant but unfortunately it stumbles in its execution.

Visited Vines for a meal with my wife. Menu had a good selection, I ordered the suet pie and my wife ordered the lamb nosiettes. The pie was supposed to come with rosemary and thyme mash, which seemed to be missing the rosemary and thyme! The lamb was extremely fatty and came with some additional broccoli (which my wife does not like) and was missing the toasted pine kernels! Generally the service was quite poor and value for money was bad. This restaurant has been going downhill for some time now and the hotel is definitely missing a trick, I don’t think we will be visiting any time soon.

We attended a funeral for a very special lady and the wake was at the vines, I have never been here before and never will again. The food was lovely but wasn't enough for everyone to have a sandwich or a piece of cake and I felt so bad for the lovely family who had lost there mother. They ran out of tea and coffee and had to wait ages for them to fill up. Some of the staff were rude and unhelpful. As this was the first time it certainly was nit a good impression given the circumstances.

We booked for a group of 5 at lunchtime on a Saturday. On arrival we had to find our way through a group of wedding guests who filled the bar area, so we had to go directly to our table rather than have a drink in the bar. Service was fine with lovely staff and the food was very good, but rather expensive - I had the braised beef with mash which I would recommend. We all had different dishes and agreed they were all good, especially the chips that came with the burger! Personally I felt that the afters were overpriced for what they were.

Food really nice. But can't believe £7.20 for orange juice and lemonade. Charged for pint of lemonade (which obviously is not a full pint as they have to add orange juice which we were charged £2.65 And I was charged £2.90 for a dash of soda water. I will be contacting trading standards as not getting a full measure of a pint of lemonade. 😡😡. I didn't say anything at the time as we were celebrating a birthday and I didn't see the bill till I got home. Will not be returning and will advise people to throughly check bills. Rip off prices.😡

Quite possibly the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had! I knew it was going to be poor from the moment we walked in & we weren’t greeted in anyway & then they couldn’t find our booking. A polite young lady seated us & took our order for tea & coffee I had a decaf cafetière of coffee which the plunger had already been pushed down & obviously too early as all that came out was coffee grains when I poured it. This was then sent back, another was given, this time was ok but they had still pushed the top down which really is the choice of the diner to do. Another waitress then brought our afternoon teas & to my total disappointment all 4 were normal when one should have been gluten free (ordered at time of booking). They then went on to blame whoever took the phone order but that didn’t help my situation. The waitress said she would be back then said we could keep all four teas & would I like a glass of fizz to compensate (a nice gesture but I would’ve still preferred my afternoon tea) & they’d see what they could rustle up in the kitchen for me. I was so disappointed as I was so looking forward to a lovely tea & had starved myself especially for it. The waitress returned with apologies as she placed the most sad looking plate of food in front of me. I did say “that’s not an afternoon tea” to which she replied “I know sorry but you have got the extra one to take away too” What the one that I didn’t order & can’t eat!! It consisted of a GF roll cut into 4 bits with a sprinkle of cheese & pickle a bit of ham a bit of egg mayo & a bit of tuna Mayo.. Along with a very small chocolate coconut macaroon & a slice of chocolate torte. Not £25 worth of food in any way & not even nicely presented. She did say she might be able to find me a GF scone but that never materialised. My partner said his afternoon tea was no way worth £25 either. You expect for that something a bit more special in the sandwiches at least (they had the same fillings as mine) & also for the 2hrs that was spent there nobody bothered to speak to us again to ask if everything was ok or even offer us more tea & coffee. I’m guessing the staff were embarrassed or they can’t be bothered. We even had to go to the bar to settle the rest of the bill as the waitresses seemed to disappear. I was so upset as I wanted it to be such a special day for my Mother & Father in Law as it was a special treat for them for Mother’s Day treat & my father in law as he is quite poorly with terminal cancer. I would’ve complained more whilst I was there but didn’t want to ruin the day for them. We will not be returning or be recommending others to go there (I was going to book spa days there too with friends but just this experience has put me off from ever returning).

I went with 3 friends for lunch to celebrate my 70th birthday. One of my friends had notified the restaurant that it was for my birthday and asked them to add a birthday message to my dessert plate, this was forgotten. We waited an hour for our first course even though there were only 2 other tables occupied. We were there for 2 and a half hours for 2 courses by which time we were the only table there. Prices are high so expected the food to be special . The superfood salad and fish and chips were enjoyed. Two of us had the sea bass which would have been enjoyed as was tasty but far too salty . After another long wait we ordered desserts. After a while the waitress returned to say there was only 1 portion of strudel so I changed to sticky toffee pudding. After a while the chef came out to say he was just going to make some sticky toffee pudding but would be another 20 mins so I reordered the chocolate nemesis . When it arrived this would have been ok but was cold and solid as served straight from the fridge . The restaurant was actually quite cold which we mentioned to the waitress and 2 of us sat with our coats on so we all ordered teas and coffees with our desserts. The 2 cappuccinos were lukewarm so soon were cold. We mentioned some of these issues at the end and did receive a reduction on the final bill but this didn’t make up for what I had hoped would be a special meal. The building and grounds are lovely so could be a special place to eat with improvement

We ate at the restaurant as part of our stay at the hotel. The environment is lovely. A grand setting with a nice atmosphere. The bar had a good variety of drinks with a very friendly barman. The restaurant looks great. A nice, relaxed environment with a feeling that you’re somewhere which is going to be nice to eat at. We were seated and shortly afterwards someone appeared to take our order. Strangely we’d not been offered drinks. I had to ask for the wine list which appeared as a laminated sheet of A4 with a slim selection. Mostly sold by the glass. Seams like the kind of place which would have had a greater and higher quality selection. We were not offered drinks throughout the meal, always had to wave someone down. The menu is simple and contains a selection of what I’d describe as pub classics. A little more than you’d pay in a pub, however you expect that the food will be a higher standard as a result. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t up to the standard of the prices. Perfectly edible, but whilst each dish has some tasty parts, other bits let it down. On the seafood platter the calamari were quite chewy and for the main the pork belly had a cooking fat taste. Mixed experience. A lovely posh feeling restaurant with prices to suit, however the service, menu and food doesn’t feel in keeping with it. We’d visit again but I probably wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion to someone else.

We ate here last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. On arrival the carpark was pretty busy so we figured that was a good sign of popularity of the venue. Inside it was busy with not many tables empty but there was a corporate function in the room at the rear . To start we had the baked camembert sharing board as was excellent. To follow my wife had the beetroot burger and I had the lamb suet pudding with mash and again both piping hot and cooked to perfection. We had no room for desert so skipped that . The staff there appeared very young but were really pleasant, very well mannered and attentive and couldn't be faulted. One minor little gripe is the light in the dining room is very dark and we struggled to see the menus . All in all a very nice birthday celebration meal .

Family meal was booked for 10 people to celebrate a birthday and a graduation. We arrived promptly at 2.30pm and found we had to thread our way through a huge wedding party taking up all the bar and restaurant area. Only one lady was serving drinks for the throng of people, with no-one around to direct us, one of us had to fight our way into the restaurant to find a table for 10. Only two tables had other diners waiting. Eventually we got menu’s, followed by a prompt for drinks, which arrived 20 minutes later, with a bottle of sparkly water for two people delivered in one pint glass! Apparently bridesmaids at the wedding venue were changing in the room where the bottles were kept! Meal orders were then taken. Starters finally started to arrive an hour after we got there. My starter, a Feta & watermelon salad, was disgusting. Mellon consisted of thee small bits, the Pea shoots were yellow and dry and the lettuce was slimy. This was pointed out to the waitress who said she would tell the chef, butt nothing was said or done about it. In fairness, the main courses were nice, although the whole experience was incredibly long and slow. I emailed the manager, but got no response other than an automatic acknowledgement, and a further email has elicited only the same response some two weeks later. Obviously, on this occasion, the wedding may have put the staff under a strain…but that shouldn’t mean that the restaurant guests should be inconvenienced. Pricing at the Vines is high and standards should match them, and after reading other reviews, the poor service isn’t always down to weddings. We will definitely wait until reviews start going the other way before we try it again.

Went to Vines for a family meal for 10, very disappointing evening. Thought the menu was very limited for the prices charged. Food took a long time to come and the standard was average, have had better meals at chain pub/restaurants. Steaks overcooked, served with trumpet mushrooms that were dried up. Tomato on side tasted like it was merely warmed up not actually cooked. Tandoori spiced lamb cutlets were dry, these were served with garlic mash(not very garlicky) and a pea puree which had dried up on the plate. Served with broccoli not the Savoy cabbage the menu promised, also only lukewarm. Battered cod was soft not crispy, clearly had been left under the heat lamps. Considering the prices charged expected a lot better experience. Would not recommend

Very disappointing! This was our first visit to Vines, and probably our last. The chips were overcooked, condiments were provided in sachets, no vinegar for the chips. The burger bun wasn’t fresh, this was over cooked too. It seems the food has been in lockdown too! The staff weren’t over friendly, one passed by 6 times, avoiding eye contact as we tried to order a second drink. When we complained that the chips were overcooked, the server did deduct the extra portion from the bill, but he didn’t seem that surprised by our complaint. I had booked Vines for my husband’s birthday, but he said it was the worst meal he’s had in a long while. Such a shame as the setting is beautiful, but the food was below average.

A beautifully warm summer's evening. We sat outside on the terrace. The food was fine however the service was extremely slow (we sat down at 6.30 and our main course was served at 8.20- not sure of the time of our starters) The staff that were there seemed to be working really hard so I can only assume their issue was a shortage of staff.

The Beer battered fish and chips tasted lovely and fresh...enjoyed it very much. Lovely greenery view while outside dining even though there was a heavy downpour during dinner being served, it was still a nice dining experience 😋

There is no doubt that this is a fantastic place and we use it as our local. Staff good, food good & an excellent location with country side views. Please get outside heaters, it would be perfect in this weather!

Nice to finally be able to come out but in a way that remains socially distanced and safe. Was extremely lucky with the weather but they have a marquee out with no sides on, which would certainly help with any rain. Honestly the food was...

Gorgeous caeser salad. Only slight criticism would be too much dressing but it was delicious ! If you don't like too much I would just ask for it on the side 🙂

Had lunch at the Vines yesterday sitting outside and couldn’t fault the food or service. They provided my daughter with a kids version of one of the adult meals much to her delight. Well worth a visit.

We had a lovely evening at the Vines, first visit To eat anywhere after ‘lockdown’ and although I was a little nervous, the staff have everything sorted with sanitizer stations are everywhere, minimum items on the tables etc. The booking system worked well for us. We can recommend it

Having been married at the Hotel where this brasserie resides, we are regular visitors and also have the 'lunch club card' that allows holders up to 25% off the bill (restrictions apply). Meal of 6 people was well served, not rushed, and allowed time for discussions. Was quieter than normal but that may be due to COVID-19. All meals use fresh, local, ingredients where possible. Again, there are deals to be had in the evening with various promotions on different days.

Thought this was excellent and we see this as the best place to go locally if you want something a bit special. The steaks were excellent and cooked as requested. My wife enjoyed the pheasant and another member of our group had the pork belly. A good meal in relaxing surroundings accompanied by nice wine..the Merlot was really very good! Finally the service was friendly and attentive. Would we return? We most definitely would!

I’ve been here many many times since it opened but the last few visits have made me think twice about going again. It’s only a 10 minute walk from my home, and I have a lunch time discount card but the poor quality of the food on my last few visits, together with the relatively poor service mean I shall be going elsewhere in future.

Visited For valentine's day, booked and paid for in advance with a set menu. Food was excellent, no complaints at all. Service was really good, staff very friendly and accommodating. Food was served at a good pace, didn't feel rushed but not too much waiting around. Beautiful building, really lovely as a special occasion and would certainly visit again.

Title of great British pub of the year is well deserved. Wide variety of food to suit all palettes. Dishes are a culinary delight using locally sourced fruit and vegetables (we saw produce being delivered). Service was excellent and staff were very friendly. Even if you aren't local, diverting to the Tollmache Arms is definitely worth it. You won't regret it.

Wanted to try the Monday Club menu so booked for 5 p.m, this was our first visit and we found food to be extremely delicious and well presented by friendly attentive staff, everything was served at the correct temperature and dishes were of a generous size so my compliments go to the chef... we will be back!

Good place for a reasonably priced lunch/early dinner and the Meal Deal is especially good value for money. The choices on this menu are not as wide as when we first started visiting but the meals that are left are sufficiently varied so I'm sure there would be something to suit everyone. We do occasionally order from the main menu depending on when we visit but our favourite time is during 12-6 Monday to Friday when the Meal Deal operates. Our server yesterday was Louise who makes you feel 'special' even when rushed off her feet and cannot do enough for you. When time allows she will always stay and have a chat which is quite refreshing these days and much appreciated. We'll be back shortly so looking forward to another reasonably priced meal and with any luck we'll be met by the friendly face of Louise once again. Can't wait.
