So our umpteenth time at the restaurant but only my second review. For comparison purposes, I eat the same thing for both reviews, in the case eggs Florentine.. Excellent again. It is a dish that is very easy to get wrong, underdone or overdone eggs or the sauce being odd. However here I have absolutely nothing to complain , moan or niggle about. Absolutely perfect. With one exception, my wife stopped me ordering it again in the same sitting.😄

We had fish chips mushy peas bread and butter and a pot of tea for 2. The tea was one of the best cuppas I have had away from home. From here it went down hill the fish was very nice and very small the batter was lovely and crisp, but they had left the sin on such a small piece of fish so it was quite hard to seperate, i dont eat fish skin. The very few chips that were on my plate had had black pepper sprinkled on them. Surely Peper is a condiment of choice I choose not to have pepper on my meals ever I don't like it. Nothing wrong with the peas or bread and butter. And for this we paid £42.50 worked out well for my hubby he ended up with my chips, all we got was an explanation that they sprinkle salt and pepper on everything and that they were sorry about that. Why do chefs think it's OK to do this and who would put pepper on fish and chips that's a salt and vinegar meal - isn't it???

A funny one this, the place itself is extremely nice, superb quality decorations, immaculate toilets and really nice staff. We had the traditional Sunday lunch, which was average. But with all it's splendor, the place has crazy opening times, so you can never go for a late lunch or an evening meal, forget about popping in for a drink at night, even early doors, as you will find it closed, its a shame.

Really nice hotel with a lovely breakfast. The room was quite spacious, with a good en suite. It was spotlessly clean. The only negatives are that the bar and restaurant are closed in the evening, which is a shame because the food is excellent. Also all rooms are up 2 floors and there is no lift. Both of these points are clearly advertised on their website, though. Parking is free and is a couple of minutes walk away. However, there is space to unload the car in front of the hotel. All staff that we interacted with were polite, friendly, and professional. We would definitely go back.

The mason arms is a great hotel. I stay in alot of hotel's due to work and this is one of the better ones. Being a non chain the room's are stylish and characterful at the same time. I had an old fire place in my room! Bed super comfy Nespresso coffee machine! Excellent shower, very powerful, could have stayed in there for hours. A minor negative, no onsite parking, however a few council car parks within a 5min walk and hotel can issue free parking. If you have a lot of luggage you could drive to front of hotel, off load and then park up I guess. A slightly bigger negative, the bar and restaurant closed at 5pm (a little strange for a hotel), but Louth has loads of great bars and restaurants so enjoyed a stroll around in the evening. Also breakfast doesn't start till 8, so not great if you need to be gone prior to. 7 would be a better time to start. If on a holiday none of that would be an issue Still wouldn't put me off staying again!

This was the first time we had visited this restaurant and we have eaten there again, since - such was our experience. The premises are spotlessly clean, really nicely decorated and very well presented. The staff are pleasant and obliging and the menu choices are varied. The first time we went, we had afternoon tea which was nicely presented, plentiful and really delicious. (I should point out, this option does have to be ordered a couple of days in advance - but is well worth it)! In addition to the usual selection of sandwiches, pastries and scones, there was a haddock goujon served with chips - it was all so fresh and really delicious. This is a very generous meal and could easily have fed at least another person. We could not eat everything but were able to take home what we didn't eat. So good was our experience, we went again a week later and had breakfast - a bacon sandwich and tea. Once again, it was clearly freshly cooked bacon and was delicious. What we particularly like about this restaurant is that it is evident that everything is freshly prepared, on the premises. This is in contrast to most high street eating places typically serving pre cooked, 'fast food', heated or reheated in a microwave! We saw on one of the other reviews that there had been a 'wait for the food to arrive'. We believe this is inevitable because the food is all freshly prepared - we would not want to sacrifice the quality of that for the 'fast food' alternatives offered elsewhere. If you want good food - be prepared to wait for it. If you want fast food - go waste your money elsewhere. We will certainly be going back to eat there again and would highly recommend it.

Missed the mark again. Husbands meal totally missed off, due to an error on the printer in the kitchen? This was rectified but only when we told them it hadn’t arrived the waitress didn’t realise when food was brought to the table. The avo brunches were both missing the halloumi. There’s always one part of the dish missing-it’s infuriating. Lack of attention to detail. The food that does arrive is really really tasty. But they really struggle with consistency. So disappointing. Coffee was lovely. Lovely decor and really clean.

We had booked and paid a deposit for the £30 per head afternoon tea. We walked in and were greeted by a lovely waitress who seated us. Took our drinks order and came back with the tea which inside the teapot spout was all broken. She then returned with the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were stale and curled up. The scones had been cut and had already had the cream and jam put on them but on the outer sides and were like sawdust. The ginger bread( mini in the plastic tubs for children from Morrisons) , chocolate torte and mince pies were shop bought. We asked away from other customers about the scones and were told they were baked fresh yesterday. I explained baking them yesterday didn’t make them fresh. She said I will ask the manager to come over. The manager stomped over with her hands on her hips and said she couldn’t see any issues. I asked why the scones had been served in this manner she said we are short staffed. Who would put the cream and jam on the outside of a scone? She had a really bad attitude and didn’t see any issues and offered 20% discount. I said it was not worth anymore than the £10 deposit we had paid in advance as we hadn’t eaten it because it was not what they had advertised.

I’ve used their ‘hot desk’ facility a handful of times and each time their service and food has been exemplary! You get to sit in what is primarily their cocktails bar, so it has a really nice vibe and is so quiet upstairs, so away from the busy restaurant: reception areas. They charge £12.95 for the day and you can arrive from 8.30am and work there until 5.30pm. They even include a tasty sandwich and proper coffees in the price! The Wi-Fi is also really strong - I’ve had several video calls there and they’ve all been fine. The team are always so courteous and welcoming, it’s a pleasure to be there 10/10! 🙂

I really want to give 5 stars as we go in regularly. It always just misses the mark. Friendly enough service but very slow. Always lots of dirty tables. Slow to take orders. Slow to ask if alls ok. Slow to get cutlery and ask of desserts wanted etc. food is very reasonable and loads on the menu. I loved the smashed avo brunch. Had it 5 times in the last few months. It always has one of the ingredients missing. 3 times it’s been the bacon, once the halloumi and once the tomato chutney! It’s the silly little mistakes and lack of attention to detail that spoil this place. Such a crying shame. The dining room is lovely and the menu is great -really good value but def lacks some leadership maybe or consistency. Really needs to do better. It’s like they just don’t care enough.

We were in Louth, and on passing The Masons Arms, decided to drop in for lunch. We entered and were met quickly by a member of staff, who offered us a choice of seating, at that time the restaurant was probably only a quarter full. Absolutely no complaints with the staff, friendly, courteous and efficient, and there were only two a young male behind the bar, and a young female waitress. Cant fault the service or politeness. I had the Ploughman's Sandwich, and my wife had the Eggs Florentine, and I also ordered a side order of chips at £1.25. Strangely we were given salted popcorn as an hors d'oeuvre, which wasn't really to our liking. The meals were fine, and it was just a light lunch, but I thought a tad overpriced, especially the chips which came in a small bowl, and looked like they may have been from a pack of frozen chips because of their very thin small size, and some were very crunchy. Overall it was okay, and seemed to have a good clientele. We would come back, as it was clean tidy and efficient, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, but I wont be wasting money on the chips again.

We chose this hotel mainly for its location in the town centre. What a mistake! Fridays and Saturdays are market days which negates the nearby parking as the street is closed during the day. The hotel has an arrangement with a car park which is free providing you register the car registration with the hotel. The hotel is not disabled friendly - there is a lift which goes up 1 level but access to bedrooms requires to go down a few steps then to go up at least two further flights of stairs! We managed to get to the rooms but anyone with a more severe impairment would not be able to. The room was comfortable and had been upgraded fairly recently but overlooked the market street which is very noisy when being set up and closed after trading. On the Sunday a road sweeper vehicle arrived at 07.30 to clean the areaThe hotel has a well stocked bar with a choice of beers and lagers but closes at 18.00 every day even for residents so if you want a drink in the evening you have to go out to a local bar or pub. The Hotel locks the access door at 20.00 the room key has a main door key on the bunch so residents can get in.Breakfast is served in the area near the bar but the standard of food is very poor, it is included in the room rate but is of such poor quality it was hardly edible, the food was not hot, probably because the kitchen is on a higher level than the dining room and gets cold during delivery. We asked if there were cereals available and were told there were not but arrangements would be made to get some for the next morning. Next morning we were told that they hadn't managed to get any muesli despite the fact there are several shops within 5 minutes walk - we had the slimmest of apologies for this. There were no side plates provided for the cold toast and melted butter so we had to use a serviette or the table. Another guest when asked if everything was OK said no- it was the worst breakfast she had ever seen! The person responsible for cooking the food, one cannot call him/her a cook or a chef, it would be an injustice to their profession obviously took no notice of requests or presentation. The front of house staff were very friendly and approachable, its a pity that the kitchen staff did not replicate their performance. To conclude this hotel has had a recent refurbishment, but really is not worth the room rate I was charged - £ 113 a night and is totally unsuitable to disabled people and the breakfast food is awful.

Breakfast is decent from the menu, service is always with a smile. Yes, parking is off site but included in the rate and not so unusual for a historic centrally located hotel. What a really nice hotel. A lovely old building in the Cornmarket of a market town. After reading reviews we contacted the hotel asking where to park. We were given clear instructions on a nearly car park few minutes walk away and gave our reg to the hotel who electronically dealt with the cost. Perfect. Room was spacious and had everything we needed. Coffee machine was a lovely extra and lots of choice of teas. Slippers were provided. The curtains kept the early light out. The only downside was the road sweeper lorry at 7.15 am on the Sunday morning. I assume to tidy after the previous day’s market. We were at the front of the hotel and had window open. Breakfast was really good. Included in cost of room. We just chose from the menu. Would definitely stay again.

Visited here several times before without issue and has always been fabulous . Arrived here today for lunch with family . The food and drinks were fabulous as always but the young girl serving us seemed to have a problem. We finished our main course and was looking forward to a dessert as we had enjoyed them on other occasions. No one came forward to clear the table or offer us dessert so we asked the young waitress for a dessert menu , the look of horror on her face as if we’d asked for the world!!! She left menus on the table but never came back to take our order! So 20 minutes later we asked for the bill and left. Such a shame as we have always enjoyed the Masons Arms.

I see that the Mason's Arms in Louth received a glowing report in an article that appeared in lincolnshireworld.com in September 2018. My advice is to take it with a pinch or two of salt. Here's what they need to do in order to make it worth staying in. 1. Warn guests beforehand that if they arrive on one of the numerous market days, they will have to find somewhere to park and then schlep halfway across town, with all their luggage, suitcases and paraphernalia. 2. Get someone who works there to lug the same luggage back to their official car park, at least ten minutes away, and then describe the experience. 3. Uncurate the rooms and design them instead for real people, with form following function, not the other way round, notably: bedside lights that are fit for purpose; a floor or desk lamp; a second chair in double rooms, so that guests don't have to take turns standing up; and beds that don't need a stepladder to get into. Oh! And a few sheets of loo paper in the bathroom would come in handy. 4. And then there's... breakfast, which has - again - been curated and as a result, is very much a curate's egg. Give it the big E, chaps, and take a tip from 95% of the world's hotels: switch to a buffet. Simples. At the same time, ditch the pesto this and florentine that, and make sure you have in stock everything that's on the menu. It would stop the unmistakable groundswell of moaning and complaining that was the backdrop to both the breakfasts we managed to survive; and it would mean not being stuck there for 90 minutes or more. The staff, meanwhile, struggle through it all very stoically, manfully, not to say doggedly, coping with the whole curating schtick, which should have been chucked out at the design phase as an "interesting idea". Thanks, mate; but no thanks.

I have on many occasions visited the Masons for several years for meals, drinks, cocktails etc. At some stages I would visit on a weekly basis. The service provided has been excellent so it is extremely disappointing that my last 2 visits have been terrible. On the first occasion the only lager on tap was off so I went elsewhere and on the most recent visit I was told they were closing early as it had been quiet!. I asked for the manager who was apparently cleaning the beer pipes in the cellar. He did not seem to care at all that I was a regular visitor and despite there being numerous members of staff did not wish to serve me. I have a gift voucher at home bought for me as a present but I will not be using it or revisiting this establishment and will obviously be recommending family and friends do the same. So sad to see as my wife, family and I have had so many lovely times in recent years and met some lovely members of staff.

We walked in to the pretty empty pub/restaurant for Sunday lunch at around 3pm. Sunday lunch is advertised to be served between 12 and 5pm. Choices for Sunday lunch are as follows;BeefBelly PorkPieRoasted Vegetables We were told upon ordering that there were no pies, beef or falafel (available on the rest of the menu). My partner chose belly pork, I chose roasted veg as I do not like belly pork. Whilst waiting for our food, my partner order a lager shandy - no lager on tap was available. Our meals came - the differences between our meals were as follows; My partner had belly pork on his plate and gravy, I had one more carrot than him on my plate. I’m not even sure the carrots were roasted. I also had no gravy?I have to say, the potatoes, carrots, yorkie pudding and seasonal veg were nicely cooked. But how can you advertise roasted veg when the meal doesn’t come with any?A few further tables came in, one of 6 people, a 4 and a 2. By that time, there were only 3 portions of pork left. We chose to have desserts (I was quite hungry) and I had the last slice of orange/chocolate mud pie - so the table next to us didn’t stay for desserts as that would have been her choice. I also had to ask twice for a second drink.

Booked a table for 1pm today for myself, daughter and partner.Table hadn't been reserved by the staff. Placed at a table and got drinks we ordered almost 45 minutes later. Food/service was very slow. My meal finally arrived 10 minutes after theirs. Could tell immediately it wasn't up to the usual standard you come to expect of the Masons. Told the waitress who just said thankyou for your feedback. Didn't finish my meal and mentioned it to the head waitress/manager who knocked the price of my meal off as a gesture of goodwill. Presumably it was a different chef on today or a less experienced one. Hopefully things will be soon rectified and the Masons will be back on form quickly?

On a visit with friends to this pub seated out side Waited 20 mins for service had to ask some one,Order was a breakfast and 3 x masons burgersAfter waiting 40 mins it came out looked presentable The breakfast looked dried up and was small for the price. The Mason burgers well all the burgers were dry and the buns thay came in were a solid as a rock at the bottom probably over heated in microwave to muchAll were not eaten and ask for a refund,Must admit thay did not argue and refuned £30 off a £64 bill not happy

The good points of The Masons Arms ... clean, spacious and modern rooms, great bathroom, decent choice of breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. All of this would have warranted four stars however, the position of the hotel was both a plus and minus. Positioned in the the Market Square made finding our way around the delightful town of Louth easy, however, the setting up of the market on two of the mornings of our stay disturbed our sleep greatly. Just something others may need to be aware of if booking this hotel.

Had one of the best afternoon teas ever. One vegan and one not . Everything was fresh and very tasty. Impressed with the fact they use all local produce. Left feeling extremely full, will definitely be going back for more. Bottomless brunch next time !! Looked fab. Shout out to the staff who couldn’t do enough for us too, very attentive at a busy time

We ordered a takeaway Sunday lunch on Sunday and it was excellent , the best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time. When I went to collect it all the staff were lovely welcoming and friendly. Our lunch was well presented in the takeaway boxes and was so tasty. Would highly recommend the masons arms we can’t wait for our next Sunday roast and to visit properly once restrictions are lifted . Hannah Goy

So went to the mason arms for afternoon tea booked the night before stressed 1 of us is vegetarian and allergy to mushrooms and dislike to egg out of cakes told them about 5 times, savoury course came about 15 minutes after we arrived but was a standard with meat so I explained to the waitress that it’s wrong etc Very confused so took it back to the kitchen - no one came back to apologise, I would be intrigued to see if the gentleman I spoke to actually wrote it in the dairy ? So when the next lot came it was all veggie with just cucumber and a thick layer of cream cheese, a quiche ( even though said no egg ) out of cakes, a bowel of coleslaw so told again it was 1 normal 1 veggie - lovely lady said it’s just sandwich’s missing okay that’s fine - but it wasn’t just that fish and chips and bacon quiche extremely annoying - Granted the waitress did offer to pay my deposit back but we just wanted to leave unfortunately won’t return and just a terrible service and experience such a shame. Also undercooked pastry and cucumber the same thickness as the bread crispy dry bread Just a bit of a s*** show really :-( ended up going McDonald’s for something consistent I’m not mad just disappointed

Nicely spaced out seating and room for a pram. Very nice hand sanitiser on entry. Coffee was delicious but the cups were very small, not the best value for money. There was also quite a wait to be served.

In 2017, I wrote a review about the newly-refurbished Masons under the heading 'fine dining comes to Louth'. At that time, the food was innovative and it was a joy to have dinner there. Then a couple of years later they changed the chef and employed a cook. The menu was 'dumbed down' to at best, up-market pub standard and the service followed suit.In the past couple of years we made regular Friday evening visits to their 'Habits' cocktail lounge, which made a nice start to the weekend. COVID changed all that, but when hospitality started to reopen and the Masons began serving food and drinks, we thought we'd pay them a visit once more. So last Friday, we went in and giving one of the catering staff who was chatting on the stairs a wide berth (he made no effort to move), we went up to the first floor. In the cocktail lounge, we found it littered with the detritus of past diners – empty bottles, used plates, the odd discarded tissue. We hung around by the bar, but nobody attended to us, even though staff came and went. Considering this is a hotel, we expected to be challenged by someone, but no.Back down in the restaurant, we spoke to one of the staff, who informed us that the cocktail bar hadn't re-opend and the plates hadn't been cleared from earlier in the afternoon (I subsequently discovered afternoon teas are served in the lounge). So what has happened to the high standards of 2017? Nobody greeted us, nobody asked if we needed help, did we want a table etc. They just ignored us and got on with their tasks.Perhaps one day, fine dining and hospitality will return to the masons, but not, I suspect, under the present ownership.

Having seen Masons Arms ‘rent a desk’ promotion on Instagram I proceeded to book via the website. The idea is for those of us who work from home or students studying to be able to check in for a few hours in a nice environment and work with the comfort of a sandwich, unlimited tea and/or coffee and use of their WiFi in a dedicated, distraction free room.I booked for this afternoon and must say it was great. Super attentive and polite staff, lovely steak sandwich, coffee on tap and a lovely comfortable atmosphere to work in for the afternoon. It might seem like a strange thing to do in venturing from the comfort and convenience of your own home to work, but trust me, a change of scenery and some fresh faces was just the trick to take the stale edge off my working week.Nice to see a local business thinking outside the box in ways to attract new custom and in tern, filling a gap in the market that us as a minority will benefit from. I hope this proves fruitful for the Masons Arms and I will certainly be back again.

We went here for lunch, wouldn’t return. We were given a table in ‘the library’ a little area in the back with four tables. Our food and drinks order were taken, abs drinks arrived within 10 mins or so which was fine. Food arrived around 30 mins later. We ordered philly cheese steak sandwich, a grilled cheese sandwich and some Garlic and Parmesan topped chips. The ‘philly cheese steak SANDWICH’ came as steak strips and peppers soaked in cheese on a single slice of bloomer bread? As far as I was aware, a sandwich was two slices of bread and a filling? The grilled cheese sandwich came as a sandwich should, two slices of bread filled with cheese, however my husband said the bread had been soaked in butter/oil which made it very greasy and difficult to eat. The Garlic and Parmesan chips were more like potatoes quartered, they were huge and therefore raw in the middle. To top this off, we were completely forgotten about. Tables in the library weren’t cleared, we got up and asked for the bill twice, and then the third time i took my card to the till and advised if the above to which the waitress was apologetic and took 2 drinks (tea and coke) off our bill.

Can only recommend this place. I came in with my boyfriend for a chilled Saturday Lunch and was not at all disappointed. Lovely wine complemented a recently launched menu which offered a great balance of choice. You can tell that the best ingredients are used when classic dishes and combinations are elevated to a new level. Special thanks also to Rowena, Ben and Robyn for looking after us so well throughout a busy service. We will definitely return soon.

Unfortunately we did not enjoy our visit to Masons Arms for breakfast. To start with we waited well over half an hour for our two breakfasts to arrive which considering there weren't many other dinners this was a particulararly long time to wait. I was sat watching the CCTV of the two kitchen staff who where lacking in any kind of motivation or speed and didn't mind the health risks of dropping cooking utensils on the floor and then using them to serve food! I had the English breakdfast. While the ingredients where ok (nothing special) the sausage...or lack of sausage was deffinately suffering some major LMS, the sourdough was not sourdough but more like a big chunk of friend baguette. My partner had the smoked salmon bagel which was mostly inedible, the fillings where tasty and a generous portion however the bagel itself was rock hard and wouldn't cut. The only plus side to the meal was that the waiter took my partner's meal off the bill so he was extremely accomodating but other than that I wouldn't rave about anything much, the new decor is lovely though. Probably wouldnt return

I had visited this hotel's restaurant twice before and been disappointed. However, I went for lunch today with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has been updated with plants (albeit unfortunately, mostly plastic), but the atmosphere is completely different, calm and welcoming and the staff seem happier in their work. I think there is a new Chef as the food was excellent compared to my last visits. You had to wait a little longer for your dish but that was because it is obviously cooked fresh on request. I now would recommend this restaurant. Well done whoever is responsible for the great improvement.

The hotel had reasonable protective measures in place, both in reception and in the restaurant and the staff seemed aware of their responsibilities. Our room was clean, comfortable and fairly quiet considering that it overlooked the market place. The room was well equipped, the bed comfortable and the bathroom spacious with a good over-bath mutli-function shower. The cooked breakfast/brunch was 1st class and the hotel will serve it to you at any time after 8.00am.

Really enjoyed our stay here ..Rowena, James and Ben made us feel so welcome. Comfortable room, though 2 chairs rather than one would have been good. Breakfast good /served all day. Car park access in 2 mins away, very easy (the hotel cover the charge remotely / electronically, great system). Central location but quiet. Has undergone and sensitive and appropriate refurb of late retaining the aesthetic and characterful appeal of the building. Recommend unreservedly.

We went specifically to this venue for breakfast. We ordered different breakfasts and made some changes to one of them with the helpful counter staff. The tea in the tea pot was cold and we took it back for a replacement hot tea pot. The breakfast was brought to us by a member of staff who did not smile or speak. Having ordered extra well done bacon we were surprised to note that it certainly hadn't been even well done. The plates were cold and so was half of the breakfast, the rest of it cooling rapidly. The toast and prepacked butter were placed on the top of the breakfast and we had to use our fingers to try and get them off the top, even though there was nowhere to put them (have they never heard of side plates)? All in all, very poor. Customer care is clearly not a priority.

Can't begin to say how bad this pub was, miserable landlady and landlord and the worst food I have ever not eaten. I say not eaten as we didn't get through even a quarter of the plate of awful food we were offered. My husband said the beer was okay but please don't bother with the food it REALLY ISNT WORTH IT.

Food was really good. We had gluten free fish and chips with curry sauce, a vegetarian burger and a regular fish and chips. Portions were huge and food was good. Service and atmosphere weren't the best, so let down the experience a little. Reasonable price.
