What a pleasant change to go into a pub and not be met with neon lights, loud background music and the usual modern refit. This is a traditional country pub, with lit open fire, oak walls and a decor that reminded me of how pubs used to be. The welcome was warm, both by the staff and a couple of obvious regulars at the bar and we took our seats in the bar area seating (there is a restaurant area as well). I ordered sausage & mash and my partner the steak and ale pie. Both hot, tasty and homemade in its style and large helpings. We both also had puddings, apple crumble and sticky toffee between us and both dishes with lots of lovely custard. With 2 drinks, total bill was just over £40. Great value. Good honest and hot pub lunch and a good price. Well done all. We will be back

Nipped in for a quick drink but so impressed by the ambience and sight of meals we chose to dine for a late lunch. Great choices on the menu, good value and very satisfied with our three meals on a dog friendly area of the bar. We'd have no hesitation in going back again...oh, and a good pint too! Every year we have a family event on the East Coast and after it we go to the Waggon & Horses for lunch. The pub is on our way home and about 20 minutes drive in to our return journey. This year as in previous years they were very helpful and accommodated all of us, considering we rang as we set off for them. Our party ranged from the very young <2 to the old >65. Service was fairly fast and very amenable. The menu offered a range of items to meet all tastes and desires. Food when it came was tasty, well presented and more than enough. The meals and drinks worked out at just over £20 a head, which is excellent value for money. Will we be back next year, almost certainly.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch on our way home after staying in the area for the summer. We have previously visited as a family group of anywhere between 6 and 10 of us and have never been disappointed. Today was no different. There were only 2 of us today and we both opted for lasagne. One with chips and garlic bread, the other we asked for with chips, garlic bread and salad. The lovely lady behind the bar said that was no problem and we took a seat in the bar area. The food came quite quickly and we were not disappointed. A good size portion of lasagne and excellent REAL chips. The lasagne is great! It’s nice and firm and not at all like the microwave slop in a dish that seems to be a staple of other establishments in the vicinity. The salad could have been a little fresher but it was ok and presented very nicely. All in all we had a good lunch and we enjoyed yet another visit. The Wagon is a friendly, welcoming traditional countryside pub with attached restaurant area. It has a good selection of well cooked pub food at reasonable prices and a good pint too. We will continue to return when we are in the area as we are never disappointed.

Stopped here after a days travelling. The food was shocking! Children’s meals were chicken goujons and fish goujons but only had 2 very small thin pieces each. It was mainly a pile of chips. Each meal was just under £7! I had a burger that was very bland in flavour… cheap meat. My mums Bolognese had very little flavour. She had to coat it in salt and pepper to make it edible! Drinks overpriced too. A warm, cheap brand fruit shoot was £2.20 and was not chilled. They said my children couldn’t have a glass of cold milk? A very small half glass of lime cordial and soda was 1.30 Meal came to just under £50. I’ve had many meals for that price and this was substandard unfortunately. Decor needs updating, very dated and fusty. Apologises for bad review but just disappointing in all ways. Food and atmosphere need updating.

Went to the Waggon and Horses at South Reston last night for my birthday meal. It was awful. I had Lasagne which was microwaved into the dish. The cheese on top was in one huge lump and the bottom was black and hard. I did manage to eat some of the middle. We did complain and was politely told she was very sorry but they had a new chef.!!! I’m not quite sure why she thought this explanation would make us feel better, but it certainly didn’t. We will not be returning, and we are local.

We have used this public house in the past and again they did not disappoint us. This year we had our 6 month old grandson with us and they ensured there was a high chair for him. In the past we have eaten in the bar area, which has a lovely rustic feel, but it did not have enough room for the six of us. However, the restaurant provided an open air feel, whilst being indoors. Food wise we cannot fault it. The fish and chips (which they mark as BIG and it is) went down well as did grandma's ham, egg and chips. Grandma's day was made with the homemade rice pudding AND JAM!! The turkey ham and leek pie was a bit disappointing but was more than made up for by the cheesecake. All the desserts are a very generous portion and very good value for money. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and other customers very tolerant of babies. Only fault, and mums/dads may not see this as a minor one, was the lacking of a changing area for babies. However, mine host did provide an impromptu improved area. Will we return when next in the area, almost certainly.

We travelled past this pub on our journey and I noticed the hanging baskets looked ever so beautiful so had to imagine the food to be good as their presentation. I was wrong. Don’t know if they just weren’t that keen on us being there but it was awful. There was a couple in the bar area, a family of 6 int he dining room and a man on his own. That’s it. It was dead, there’s a reason. Young lady at the bar was nice, let us choose a table, we had a wide choice! Food seemed nicely described on the menu. Oil desperately needs changing for fried food. I was unable to eat one chip. My son’s sausages were burnt to a crisp. His mash was lumpy. No one checked how our food was. They were more interested in checking what time they were working til that day. Don’t bother, far nicer pubs in this area.

Staff very rude. Was told we were wrong to our faces. Staff spoke about us just behind the bar where we could all hear them say how “they’re wrong no one would have said that” after we attempted to order 3 of their carvery’s which we called and booked a table specifically for. We got told on phone it served until 2pm then again from 4-9pm however we got told we were wrong no one would’ve said this apparently and to choose something off the main menu. An old woman also came over and was very rude and abrupt again telling us we were wrong and to choose something else. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? Now I know it’s not always true but to be told in a rude manor to our faces “you obviously got it wrong” was out of order and just showed what they thought of their customers. Overall awful experience and will not be returning ever even for a drink only. Then after 2 waiting staff one old and one young had told us that an old man came over and attempted to apologise with a sarcastic demeanour. Very disappointed. Rude staff. Dirty napkins and table. Took ages to come over to take our order and then was rude.

The meals are always good and plentiful, the staff always friendly, and I can honestly say, that not on any occasion have we had a bad meal, or had any complaints. On the last and most recent occasion we took our friends from Oxfordshire there, and they simply loved it, and had no complaints. The food was excellent, we had Garlic Bread starters then my Wife had Salmon with Rice and I had Smoked Trout. Food excellently prepared and served, I had Sorbet for dessert and my Wife had a Crumble and Custard. A very pleasant evening in a tastefully decorated room, our only comment would be that the Garlic Bread did not represent good value but ti tasted ok. Nice pub, if a little “barn-like”. Hearty and well-cooked food and pleasant staff. Unfortunately,(and this is no criticism of the pub), our visit was completely spoilt by a middle-aged man at the next table, who guffawed with excessively loud and raucous laughter every time anyone at his table said anything. The group as a whole weren’t laughing, so this chap was, frankly, s bit of a prat. We are not intolerant people by any means, but this person’s unrestrained laughter nearly perforated our eardrums-not pleasant!

Visited last night for our evening meal.. bar area seems cosy and friendly. Ordered drinks then was taken through to the restaurant swiftly and seated. My fianceè had the lasagne and I had the Gammon steak. The lasagne was nice but could have done with a little more seasoning. The Gammon was a decent size (nice and thick) and was very tasty accompanied with egg and pineapple. Would eat there again should we visit the area in the future.

We visit once a month or so, more often if we have friends staying with us as it does such good food (we live in Chapel St Leonards which is fourteen miles away). Every meal at the Waggon and Horses has been good, excellent or...

Good food, no GREAT FOOD . Some places have the knack of just timing things just right. You know the feeling ,I’m just about to start looking around where my food is !! As if by magic here it comes..

Had a couple of roasts today which came with free desserts. Meal was lovely, fresh, hot, just what you expect. We was really happy with that.....but....half an hour after leaving we realised we had left a bag behind. Money, cards, car keys, medication, all stuff hard to replace when on holiday. We returned to the Windsor and the lady who was serving, cleaning etc said she saw the bag as soon as we left, so put it safe behind the counter. Panic over. We can't thank you enough xxx

Visit to the seaside wanted fish and chips, as I'm gluten free I usually struggle. Not here have gluten free on the menu, also curry sauce. We both had regular fish and chips, mine was wrapped separately from husbands as he had normal.Great portions glad we didn't go for the large.

We went specifically to this venue for breakfast. We ordered different breakfasts and made some changes to one of them with the helpful counter staff. The tea in the tea pot was cold and we took it back for a replacement hot tea pot. The breakfast was brought to us by a member of staff who did not smile or speak. Having ordered extra well done bacon we were surprised to note that it certainly hadn't been even well done. The plates were cold and so was half of the breakfast, the rest of it cooling rapidly. The toast and prepacked butter were placed on the top of the breakfast and we had to use our fingers to try and get them off the top, even though there was nowhere to put them (have they never heard of side plates)? All in all, very poor. Customer care is clearly not a priority.

Can't begin to say how bad this pub was, miserable landlady and landlord and the worst food I have ever not eaten. I say not eaten as we didn't get through even a quarter of the plate of awful food we were offered. My husband said the beer was okay but please don't bother with the food it REALLY ISNT WORTH IT.

Visited here yesterday as we have done many times previously and i was on my VERY SMALL electric scooter (ES). It was quite busy but not full as it is fairly small inside. Myself and my scooter took up the same amount of sitting on the chair as i was situated so i didn't need to use their chair and if on a large bike this would not have been possible. However a young girl asked if i could leave my ES outside and walk in which i could not as not able to do so. I replied we have been in there previously and had never been an issue but she said the couldn't allow it when they were busy. I would not have gone in if i was going to cause an issue or restrict any of the pathways and so i felt i had to leave, which we did. However there was 3 tables occupied by approx 12 men who were blocking pathways and not eating anything and were loudly talking to each other across the tables who were who were quite clearly obstructive but seemingly that was ok !!! I am disgusted in this day and age that such discrimination persists and i will not use them again. Perhaps they need to add a sign to the windows stating people with mobility aids would not be allowed in busy periods. Totally Disgusted. LInda Halls
