We have enjoyed some good food here on many occasions, so what went wrong on 28 November? It is such a shame when a decent pub descends into mediocrity. Needless to say we won't risk it again. The food was awful. To highlight a few things: The chicken was dried out and stringy - at least they provided a huge steak knife to hack into it. The broccoli was so raw that it couldn't even be described as blanched. They didn't even trim the brown ends off the stalks. My steak was a hunk of tough gristly stewbeef, not good enough for the mincer. The profiteroles would have been better had they been defrosted. Little icy lumps give no pleasure.

Put aside the minor-celebrity connections and take this place for what it is - a perfect blend of tiny inn, gastropub and locals hangout. Our stay was for two nights giving us the chance to take in the countryside and visit the cathedral at Salisbury. We were lucky with the weather which gave us the opportunity to enjoy the pub garden while the locals chatted at the bar. The food was tremendous (I recommend the cod or the duck). We had breakfast on both days in the oak room which is a great place to start your day. A special mention should go to the room’s shower (we stayed in the Wardour Room) which was astounding.

Not good, Firstly the was a cat sat at our table. When we arrived.. apparently it wonders in when it feels like. Had 2 normal and 1 veggie breakfast.. very small. It was cold. Wrong bread on every plate.. wasn't asked if we enjoyed or if every thing was OK with our meals. Veggie sausage is actually veggies not meat substitute which in my opinion does not go with breakfast items. Very thin slice of halloumi.. wasn't worth putting on the plate. My tea and coffee went cold as lady forgot to bring my oat milk. Feel robbed of our hard earned money. Have been here in the past and it was lovely but unfortunately will not go again.

What an excellent choice of meals, starters and main courses and a specific lunch menu too!! 5 of us all had different meals and a pudding each as well. Everything was perfect. Good value for money too. The pub has been decorated and furnished well - tables not too close together. And the staff were amazingly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Probably one of the best pub lunches we've had for years.

Met up for a girls lunch…. A lovely warm welcome and attentive service. We all chose to share a plate of whitebait with tartare sauce- a very generous serving - crumbed and crunchy- delicious. We all had sea bass with wilted spinach, sautéed potatoes and tomatoes- beautifully cooked and very tasty. No room for pudding unfortunately!

Worst Srvice I have experienced in years. We ate dinner there two times during our stay nearby. The main dining room is closed, but the full menu was available in the bar. On night two after waiting 35 minutes just to get drinks I complained to the supervisor, the service did not improve. I gave them two stars only because the food was fair.

Can't recommend The Blue Ship enough! Can't beat the chef Simons' roast dinner. He uses locally sourced meat, the beef is always such good quality. You won't be hungry after this meal! Meat, 2 veg, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese sometimes and big fluffy Yorkshire puddings. Being a family run establishment, you couldn't ask for more, friendly, great service, Jacquie and Sophie run the bar and service. They are attentive, chatty and superb at their job. Can't wait to go back soon! Thank you all for an amazing day.
