We visited yesterday, Sunday 25th August whilst away on a mini break. We wanted a Sunday roast and we weren't disappointed. By the far the best roast dinner we have ever had out. Our waitress Amanda was also lovely, so attentive, polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning 😍

We had not eaten here for a long time, we had just come in for drinks, so we decided to come for Sunday lunch. It didn't quite go to plan on the day. I messaged the restaurant afterwards to let them know and they handled my comments so well. They asked us to give them another chance which we did. We came back for a Friday lunch. The menu here is quite varied with regular dishes and specials on the board. We selected the lasagne and fish pie, both were delicious and the portion size was just right. Service was very professional and friendly. We will definitely be back. This is a family run place and we were really impressed with the customer service.

Family lunch for five. Welcoming atmosphere and we were not rushed to order. Specials board was inviting My Pork belly was superb and the fish pie was well received. Avoided the puddings as they were so expensive. A decent kept pint too.

A splendid meal in a very nice pub/restaurant. The place has a nice warm feeling and the welcome from the staff was great. This was the 1st time visit to the restaurant with my family, the atmosphere and surroundings are lovely and the service friendly and welcoming, we started with a prawn cocktail which was nice but at nearly £10 it was quite expensive for what it was, then we were served our curry! Well, what can I say...the small curry came up and it tasted like a micro meal from a supermarket and was the same size, it wasn't very nice, tough chicken too, was so disappointed and at £15 quid it was way overpriced for what it was, very disappointing so didn't even bother with desserts and got the bill so could leave, £77 later for 3 starters and 3 very inadequate weatherspoons type mains, absolutely way over priced , will never eat there again ....

We were staying with some friends in Rye and wanted to take them out to Sunday lunch. The King’s Head was highly recommended on Trip Advisor, so we booked a table for four for 1.00pm. I realise now that I should have looked further back in the reviews, as in amongst all the glowing reviews were some terrible ones. This seems to be a pub that is either very good or very bad, and unfortunately our experience was the latter. Despite arriving a few minutes before 1pm our meal was not served until nearly 2.00pm, and that was only after we had chased it. About 40 mins after we had ordered we asked if our food would be much longer, and after going away to check the server came back and told us that it was “being done now”. The quality of the food was mixed, to say the least. The steak and ale pie was very good, and came with a good mash. The burger was passable, although the bun was very dry, there was very little relish/sauce and some salad in or with the burger would have been nice. It came with hot, well cooked chips. The only things that were good about the roast dinners, however, were the roast potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings. The other vegetables were overcooked and tasteless, and the beef and the nut roast were both almost inedible. The beef was like shoe leather - dry and tough, in a strange tasting gravy (a bit like school dinners of the past). The nut roast looked and tasted more like a slice of stuffing - it was glutinous and bland, and clearly not (I hope) homemade. Both meals looked as though they had been waiting around being kept warm or had been re-heated. No one came to ask how our food was, or even came near the table while we were eating. As we had waited so long and were all very hungry we decided to eat what we could rather than go looking for someone. The young servers were very pleasant, but didn’t know how to answer any questions, or how to respond to problems (eg. the beer we ordered was off, and needed replacing - just the end of the barrel, I expect, and we were given an alternative without question, once the issue had been passed up the chain). When they came to collect our plates they asked if everything had been ok (they could see how much food had been left) and we told them about the roasts. They said they would tell the chef. When we went to pay the (duty?) manager asked if everything had been ok, and I told her about the roasts. She said that we should have said something at the time, but I said that having had to wait so long for our food we just wanted to eat what we could. Instead of simply apologising she told me that the problem was that lots of people had arrived at the wrong time (i.e. not the time they had booked) meaning that the kitchen struggled to cope. However, we saw people on all the tables around us get served before us even though they had arrived after us, and so our suspicion was that our order somehow got forgotten. Mistakes happen, but when they do the best thing is to apologise, rather than try to justify them. Judging by all the positive reviews, the pub seems to be capable of producing great food, and anywhere can have an off-day. However, there seem to be more such occasions than there should be here, and more importantly the staff don’t know how to deal with them when they happen. We don’t blame the young servers in the slightest for how things were, but the management need to invest more time and effort in training their staff in customer service, and also in ensuring that the quality of the food produced by the kitchen is less uneven.

Another great meal at this warm, cosy and inviting pub. We sat next to the wood burner which was nice and toasty. One of us had the Belly of Pork, my mouth is watering at the thought of it! One of us had the special which was bacon and onion suet pudding……You get a generous bowl of veg each and one of us had new potatoes and one had chips. Dessert was clotted cream rice pudding……Heaven! We are lucky that this is our local pub and it couldn’t be better! Cheers!

Beautiful setting. Alas unloved and uncared for. Nightmare for anyone unsteady on their feet. Coffee luke warm, cake dry. Shabby chic carried to the nth degree.

Really fresh tasty fish, cooked to order, always piping hot, always good sized portions and the staff are lovely too.

Go through the dowdy antique shop frontage into the tiny, almost cramped room behind and prepare for a treat. We three all picked the all day breakfast; proper bacon, real butcher's sausages and all the trimmings. At around £6, with coffee refills, we couldn't have been happier!

Now called Chapter Two, not Two Trees. We enjoyed a lovely no thrills breakfast here which is exactly what we needed. The owners had signage up stating that they were away and the lady who appeared in charge in their absence was doing a great job. Made us very welcome and provided great service with a smile.
