Go through the dowdy antique shop frontage into the tiny, almost cramped room behind and prepare for a treat. We three all picked the all day breakfast; proper bacon, real butcher's sausages and all the trimmings. At around £6, with coffee refills, we couldn't have been happier!

Went for the breakfast C at £4.50 each-scrambled eggs on lovely thick bread-beans-and tea for that price!. Eggs were spot on-not greasy-light and fluffy-all very good. Polite service from the lady running the cafe on her own.

Called in here for 3 hot drinks and three toasted tea cakes. Waited ages for order to be taken. Waited ages for coffees/tea to come. A poor cup of weak coffee. Waited even longer for tea cakes. When they eventually arrived they were almost cold and had already been ‘buttered’ so they were soggy and not nice. Where else does someone spread teacake for you? Cafe looked nice but definitely will not be going again.

It was a nice little cafe at the corner. Service was all right too, but pity the food was a bit of a disappointment. The cod mornay was quite tasteless. The bun of the burger was dry, though the beef was still arguably passable. The batter of the onion rings tasted quite bad too. Maybe their breakfast choices were better as I see much more positive reviews on their breakfasts.

Went for a bite to eat with my wife and stumbled across this little gem on one o the corner's of Rye. The cafe is very clean and tidy and had a really nice relaxed feel to the place. The lady who ran the cafe was unbelievable. She worked so hard and was the only person on the floor as the chef remained in the background of the cafe. There was no question or query that this lady failed to answer and was prompt with her service towards customers and was attentive to their needs, with a big beaming smile throughout.

Fresh, filling, extremely tasty and a quick service. What more could you want when going out for a traditional English breakfast? For me the best breakfast I’ve ever eaten, there is nothing I can fault about the food here. Every time I finish my food I just simply can’t wait to come back for another breakfast. I recommend breakfast a which is perfectly fine but I’m greedy and always add extras, if you haven’t been here before it’s definitely worth coming down and giving it a go. A cafe which in my eyes doesn’t get the recognition it deserves!! Excellent!

Decided to visit Rye on a Thursday not realising it was market day, so very busy. Looking for some lunch, we passed this little cafe and went in. Very friendly staff and the menu looked good. Only thing missing was mashed potato as they had run out! But minced beef and onion pie was ordered and came wiith carrots and broccoli, chips and a gravy boat. The pie was delicious with the base made of shortcrust and the top flaky pastry and th filling was very tasty. One of the best little pies we have eaten out.

Was freezing outside so I popped in for coffee whilst waiting to return to the coach. Was clean and warm. Short wait before my order for tea and toasted tea cake was taken. Quite a considerable wait for it to get to the table. The tea was like coloured water. Best soup I have ever had my girlfriend agreed, so I ordered a main grilled chicken and chips, fantastic food and the home made cakes did not disapoint either.Fantastic food as good as any restaurant we have tried from here to Italy and back.

We frequently visit Rye for a day out and eat at a restaurant in the town. We have tried some of the quite expensive places for a special treat and been disappointed.I have noticed this little restaurant in passing previously and thought I must stop and read the menu some time.On this occasion we were a group of three and we all thought that there was something on the menu we fancied. It was fairly busy but we could see from outside that there was a table vacant that would suit us.On entering we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. We chose ham and chicken pie, scampi and chips and the excellent beefburger with fries - really tasty! It was a very hot day and my cousin and I really needed a glass of tap water. No objection to bringing us one. We also had teas and coffees at the conclusion of our meal.I very much liked the decor with the quirky touches alluding to "The Owl and The Pussycat" - also the plain wooden tables and simple decoration. The prices were very competitive, perhaps because the premises are not quite as central as some but nevertheless still very convenient.Cloakroom areas are downstairs and quite adequate.Having tried this restaurant we shall definitely use it again next time and hope for another enjoyable experience.

We had a very disappointing experience in another café in Rye but the Runcible Spoon took the bitter taste out of our mouths. The only slight down side about this place is location - in any other town not a problem but in Rye people tend to want to be in the thick of things. Take my word for it, you should seek it out as it is only a minute or so from the High Street. The welcome was warm and the interior has a nautical feel being bright and clean. The menu isn't extensive but it doesn't need to be. Food and drink is great, service quick and efficient and the value for money beats everywhere. Brilliant.

Popped in here with my aunt for a coffee. On arriving we were greeted with a rather cordial 'hello' from one of the two waitresses. No probs with that, she might have been busy. We sat down and waited for service. And waited. The two waitresses were chatting with no apparent regard for our need to order. No, their conversation was far more important. My aunt and I were the only two customers in the main part of the cafe. After being ignored for at LEAST 3 minutes, we got up, left the cafe and popped over to a MUCH better little cafe that served us with the friendliness and acknowledgement so evidently lacking at The Runcible Spoon.
