Really fresh tasty fish, cooked to order, always piping hot, always good sized portions and the staff are lovely too.

Best fish and chips by miles. The food is always cooked fresh and doesn't end up soggy once unwrapped like most do. There's a great selection to choose from and gluten free options on regular days. The owner and staff are so friendly and helpful. I don't eat out or get takeaways all that often as I'm often disappointed but this place never lets us down and is always such a treat ❤️

We stayed near Athena and dropped by to pickup and order of cod, chips and sausage. The batter is fresh, crispy. The fish super fresh and great taste. The CHIPS so good! I wish Athena was open more than three nights a week though. I guess they can afford to run the business part-time, so keep doing what you do :-)

Decided to try 'athenas fish & chips..its a different ordering service to other places, could only do it on line, so had to down load the app to do this , bit of a rigmarole but got there in the end..was it worth it ? Well was really looking forward as the reviews are great! But was disappointed really, the cod itself was great but the batter , well there wasn't much of it ,it should have been encased in a lovely crispy batter that's what the pictures look like, & I expected but this was bit thin & limp, as for chips they were quite dry & got worse as they got colder.. homemade mushy peas, which are really expensive £1.65 a small portion were disappointing too! Such a shame!

We had a really lovely fish and chip super on the beach thanks to Athenas. They even provided coeliac friendly for my MIL. They did come with the proviso that the kitchen isn’t free of gluten but they went to all possible effort to make it for her and rang me to just confirm this. The grilled fish option was lovely and went perfect with my homemade salad to avoid fried food. Absolutely delicious and catered for us all perfectly - Coeliac, weight loss conscious, hungry dads and even the kids with their kids potions! We ordered in advance via the website which was easy to use. Minimum order of £10. We will be making this a regular thing on their gluten free day once a month! And we now have a favourite chippy in Bexhill!

Always make a point of visiting Athena’s every time we visit due to it being the BEST fish and chip shop in Bexhill. Really generous portions and amazing food. Staff really helpful and go above and beyond

We have recently moved from Hastings to Bexhill and were looking for a fish and chip shop that caters for Gluten Free customers! And we have found one! My dad ordered Gluten free fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it, the non gluten free food was also delicious and there was plenty to feed all 4 of us! The only downside is that Gluten free is only available on the last Thursday of the month, we will be ordering again, thank you!

We got here just in time to have cod and chips with sublime homemade tartare. Drove to the seafront and had a FEAST! Best fish and chips, probably of all time for me. Flawless flavor, no grease, crisp batter, ace chips. Do try it- you’ll be glad you did!

We enjoyed another delicious takeaway last night from Athena's. I love that you can pre-order, no queuing or waiting around. The food is fresh and not ever at all soggy (like most / all other fish and chips once they're wrapped). Completely Covid safe for their staff and customers. Used to love this chippy they have got the best fish & chips however sadly they used to have gluten free options which they no longer have (except on the 1st Tuesday of the month!), as I have coeliac disease I'm no longer able to eat here!

Had the haddock with chips, I've eaten at a fair few chippies around Bexhill but have to say this is the best so far, lovely batter and really fresh fish - highly recommended

I am very careful about where i eat due to coeliac disease and needing gluten free food, not all restaurants understand how important cross contamination is. So we went to check it out first before ordering online, i believe it was the owner that came out and he seemed to totally understand and allayed all my fears, chips always fried separately, grilled fish is fine, only sauce with gluten was the curry sauce. People dont always understand the fear for coeliacs to eat out and the worry as your eating but i could really enjoy my food for once and im so grateful. It was so tasty and i really enjoyed it and not ill effect, thank you!! :)

I ordered via the website for a collection, food was ready when I arrived. On arriving home my food was not only piping hot but the batter on the fish lovely and crispy. My husband and son thoroughly enjoyed their accompanying mushy peas, tartare sauce and garlic mayo (all homemade). We will definitely be ordering again. Thankyou

Here on holiday and saw the good reviews for this business.I walked past yesterday to check it out and was impressed by how spotless it was.Ordered on line, which was simple as the Website is excellent.We strolled along at 6.30 to be immediately warmly greeted and given our meal, beautifully packed to takeaway.Safe service 100% efficient Excellent website Absolutely delicious cod, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce.Perfect portion and excellent value.Highly recommended.

Just had 4 portions of cod and chips delivered from Athenas fish and chip shop. Arrived exactly on time. All the food was fresh and hot. The batter and chips were lovely and crispy. The fish beautifully white and flakey. Along with the home made Tatar sauce, it was an excellent meal. All the packaging was recyclable. Top marks for this takeaway.

These people really do actually understand gluten intolerance! Unbelievably light and delicious batter. I think this must be just about the best battered take away fish I've had, and I don't tend to fling around my praise! Served with great chips in paper take away containers (admirable) and very flavoursome mushy peas, I was most impressed. This is my second visit - I can't remember if I reviewed the first time, but this experience was even better. And what's even better, they now take cards! :-) Keep up the good work, for as you know, complacency (which is rife) will ruin your business! Highly recommended.

I usually use the fish and chip shop in Little Common but, it is being renovated at the moment so I went Athena's in Bexhill centre. Large haddock absolutely delicious, lovely fish crispy batter, good chips. Staff are nice and everything looks clean.Recommend it highly.

Whilst visiting family in the area we called in by chance after strolling by one evening. The premises are lovely and very clean and the appearance is what enticed us in. We had fish and chips but to be honest they weren't that great. Not sure if we had a bad batch of chips but they tasted like frozen chips and the fish was small for the price. Disappointing after seeing they have so many great reviews.

It seems inadequate calling this a fish and chip shop. They do so much more - and gluten free as well. They hhave slightly more limited opening hours compared to some but search them out and try them. The best around.

Rang ahead and they were very knowledgeable about gluten free. When I arrived I got a warm and pleasant welcome. I placed my order and asked about gluten free, the lovely bloke explained about what was gluten free and even coeliac disease. I had grilled fish and chips and it was lovely. The batter on the other cod looked delicious and very light. They do a gluten free batter on the first Tuesday of the month. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Popped into Athena’s when down in Bexhill-on-sea on a Saturday. Ordered Fish and chips and battered herby sausage and chips. Which we are on the seafront. Both of us agreed that this is probably the best fish and chip shop we’ve been to. Well worth the wait while the food is cooked to order.

I use Athena's regularly and have never had a bad meal. The food is fresh, great quality and delicious. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable; they offer gluten free once a month and all the staff know what is and isn't gluten free, sadly this can't be said for a lot of food places. At last gluten free, fresh and not greasy totally amazing fish and chips. We have to drive past at least 3 fish n chips shops to get to Athenas and what a worthwhile trip it is. We've had food from Athena's many times and it's always amazing, today we had the new gyros (and lots of bits!) there are really tasty you can tell that Nick really cares about making top quality food.

Had fish and chips delivered to my house and it was amazing, it tasted so fresh and the batter was so light....it really felt like I had a super healthy meal.

Crispy chips that are soft in the middle and the most incredible silky soft mushy pea fritter in a crisp and light batter. Curry sauce reminded me of the one at McDonald’s, which is no bad thing. The first time o haven’t been disappointed with something from a fish and chip shop since I can remember. They usually smell and sound like a great idea but after three flaccid and greasy chips I realise I made a mistake. I wish I lived within a reasonable distance because there is nowhere like this in Birmingham or the surrounding area.

Not quite your standard chippie--spotlessly clean, and fish clearly cooked to order, though maybe just a touch over-cooked, hence four rather than five stars. I haven't had many better recently and thoroughly recommend it.

Absolutely recommend this fish and chip shop. We ordered through a delivery website and for some reason it was cancelled. When we phoned the shop to ask what had gone wrong...we were told they would deliver our order free of charge because of the misunderstanding. When it arrived it was absolutely delicious. Have been going back ever since. Thoroughly recommend.

Used Athena's for takeaways at one time. Highly organised and efficient, the traceability of the food is nice to see and certainly of a good quality. However, there is rather an insidious feel of niche style vs substance that much more down to earth fish and chip outlets refreshingly somehow make you feel more at home at the same time as also maintaining good quality, cleanliness and friendly service

Whilst out in Bexhill we stopped for a traditional fish and chips, and was blown away by the fantastic quality of food. Every little detail was perfectly executed. This is a well thought out fish bar, I really liked all the information you can read about the fish and sources. Will visit again... has beaten Eastbourne fish and chips hands down!

Visting family in Bexhill, I've heard plenty of positive things about Athena and I'm pleased to say they're all true! Delivery was within half an hour and the food was just perfect, not too greasy and every bit was eaten! All packaging is recyclable which made us pleased. Will definitely order again from here.

Ordered takeaway to try the quality. Chose the offer with free side dishes of Mushy peas..clean and pleasant service, however was disappointed on the Mushy peas..very salty! The fish was a small portion and not fluffy batter...too much chips!

have used Athena’s many times and have always had fantastic Fish & Chips, however we ordered via the telephone and had the worst Fish & Chips ever. In fact the delivery person told us that in future you will have to order via Just Eat, which made us wonder wether Athena’s actually cooked them. The Fish batter was really dark brown and the fish totally over cooked, it was like rubber, the chips were very poor and not the usual quality. All in all a very disappointing meal and will definitely not be ordering over the phone again.

Agree with previous comments about the quality. We opted for the £4.50 meal deal of small cod and chips and even then there were too many chips for my better half. Great value.

The batter is crispy and light and not greasy. The fish is cooked to order as well. Chips are also crispy and not greasy. Try the homemade tartar sauce. They display where the fish and potatoes have been sourced from. Try you won’t be disappointed. I believe they also deliver now.

What a brilliant fish and chip shop. Shows where everything is sourced and all fresh. The staff in the Athena are all quite young but don't let that put you off. The staff are exceptionally polite and helpful and we didn't have to wait too long for the order. Would use all the time now we have moved here.

We were on holiday in Bexhill from Holland, on our arrival it was raining, turned out to be a lovely week but that evening it was pouring down! We walked into town and fancied fish and chips. There were no tables in the restaurant but the friendly people let us sit and eat our fish and chips, they were delicious! We went back a second time whilst we were there, very good.

Good service, really really clean, and by and large really good food (although fish and chips should only be a treat, eh?). Good to see that they try to have a trail of where the fish has been caught. Recently, the flavour in the chips has dipped a little from the usual high standards, so not sure if there's been a change in type of potato used over the last year or so? Still amongst the best chippies in the area though.

We Had as a family the new gourmet chicken Butter milk burgers, they are THE BEST CHICKEN BURGERS we have EVER tasted!!! They were succulent, tasty, filling, well presented with lots of additional filling/sauce options, excellent value for money as they come with chips as a meal. We cannot recommend these beautiful burgers enough. Thank you nick for making us very happy customers!!!!

Walked in and there was a queue as to be expected on a Friday night. Asked for a meat pie and chips. The assistant was very rude and said "this is a fish and chip shop mate, we don't do pies"

Phoned last night to place a collection order, was told you don’t do collection orders due to lack of parking which is fair enough but if I came in and ordered I’d be served quickly.
