Excellent service of good quality food in a lovely village

My wife and I had the chicken liver pate', tye pate itself was very nice! But you receive 1 slice of toast cut into 4triangles,with half of the pate' remaining, asked for 2 slices of toast to finish the pate,but the cost for 1slice was £4 ,so if we had 2 slices £8, think it's very extortionate. So I'm afraid very disappointed. The management should rethink there charges for extras.

If you are looking for a quiet get away or somewhere different to eat this place is a little jewel. Tucked away in an un spoilt village with views over to Bodiam Castle, staff are so friendly and the pub is still a proper country pub. Food is cracking and locally sourced, great menu and not over priced. Plenty of ales on tap and large selection of wine. Rooms are lovely and clean. There's nice walk to Bodiam Castle if you fancy a wander.

We only had lunch but there’s no options for food stars, so have put 5 stars for rooms in place of food.. Everything we ate was spot on! Rarebit with smoked haddock to start then home cooked ham free range eggs and homemade chips, perfect, and I had seafood linguine with crab baby squid and prawns in a rich tomato sauce with capers which was large, piping hot well seasoned and generous with the seafood.. banging! Would highly recommend, and best pub we’ve found on our numerous walks with pubs! Thanks team 😁👌

We went here for our company's Christmas lunch, and couldn't have had a better time! The food was delicious, the pub was cosy and festive and their team were so welcoming to us and our office dog! Previous years we've headed to the 'bright lights of Rye' but this was way better - thank you!

First time , great pub to visit , and a interesting church near by

Visited last night for dinner, whilst the service from the waiting staff was attentive, unfortunately my main course of slow cooked pork belly was so tough as to be inedible. I did bring this to the attention of the waitress who apologised and said other people had said the same thing. When she brought the bill I asked again whether she had raised my complaint with the management on duty, and she said she had. No-one came to speak to us, so assuming they are not interested. Unfortunately that’s two locals who won’t be coming back.

Just moved to this village and having a great pub was on our wish list as an absolute must have. This pub does not disappoint. It's got everything a great British pub should have and the setting, with views to Bodiam Castle, is the icing on the cake. Consistently delicious Sunday roast! You need to book!!!

We were a party of 39! The service was excellent, the food was delicious and we all had a great time. I would not hesitate to bring my friends here. Did not use the rooms so cannot comment on them....not sure they have any accommodation.

Delicious Sunday Lunch - really wonderful pub.

On holiday in the village and the White Dog was recommended. Lovely quaint pub. Staff very efficient and friendly. I am slightly worried about leaving a negative review as Harriet seems to respond in a rather reactive and defensive way but here goes. Sadly the food was disappointing. I had Bouillabaisse which essentially was a bowl of lots of sliced fennel and tomato in a broth. Plentiful mussels, two shell on prawns and 2 very tiny pieces of white fish. This was served with crostini and rouille. The crostini were so hard I couldn’t eat them. My friends both had the lamb which was served very rare and they said it was very tough. Despite mentioning this to the waiting staff who apologised no one from the kitchen came to speak to us and there was no reduction on the bill. We are unlikely to return as we were on holiday but hopefully the chef may take on board our comments.

Great food and friendly staff. They use local suppliers wherever possible and have an extensive menu. Lots of sea food, but there are more than enough other options to keep me (a non fish eater) happy. Can thoroughly recommend it although would suggest that booking is a good idea (should be solid 4.5 stars but Google can't do half stars 😜) Just to update, still reccomended. If you go in the summer when the pizza oven is working, try the bbq pizza (bbq sauce base, not plain tomato).

Wonderful lunch, the steak was mmmm great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff, couldnt fault the experience.

The burger was completely flavourless compacted mince meat, not even a burger consistency and so dry I HAD to have a drink to prevent the moisture being sucked from my mouth with each bite. The staff were too interested in the boys playing pool to even check on our table even though as a 2 we spent over £100. I would recommend you keep driving

We were there in July 2024 and were allowed to spend the night in our van on the meadow behind the Inn in exchange for food and drink. The food and drink was very good and the owner and staff were very friendly. We can recommend it.

We were staying nearby and had booked for our first night. We loved it so much we booked for our second night too. Great menu, delicious food, excellent value, charming service - we loved it all and if this was our local pub we would be in every week. Fabulous - well done and thank you we will hopefully be back

Lovely location but was informed immediately on arrival that 'we can't do food', at the same time as the gentleman next to us ordered having informed the other bar person that ' we've decided to have food after all is that OK?' Was a shame.

What a shame that this pretty, country pub with a great menu and good food was let down Tracy. Tracy had obviously decided that the business was making more than enough money and determined that no food would be served outside at 6.30pm as they were fully booked inside from 7pm. Apparently the kitchen can’t handle it. Of course, this wouldn’t necessarily be an issue, but having already been in the pub less than 2 hours before and confirmed with two other charming members of staff that if we were able to secure a table outside, food would not be a problem. The issue here isn’t whether or not food can or cannot be served - every business has it’s limitations and knows what works for them - the issue is how it was addressed by Tracy, who was incredibly rude and very dismissive. She spoilt was could have a been a super summer evening in a pretty English village. Tracy should not be public facing.

We stayed for 3 nights in the White Dog - the service was amazing, the breakfast - world class and the beer was to die for! Thank you to the whole team at the White Dog - 5 stars

Walked from Park Farm campsite to this pub, great staff, good selection of drinks beers and ales. Very accommodating staff and large gardens with alfresco cooking. Pretty village too. Food, unfortunately there was an issue with the extractor on the day we visited so they had a reduced menu. However the pizzas were freshly made and cooked traditionally. Would recommend, you won't be disappointed! 🏆

Lovely country pub. We sat in the garden as it was sunny day. We only popped for a drink and was disappointed that they dont sell chardonnay so made do with orange juice and lemonade. Food other people were eating looked very good. Dog friendly too.

Very eyebrow menu but not that good sorry

First time here at suggestion of friends and it’s so beautiful. Staff very friendly and food excellent.

Stopped of for lunch ,received a very frosty greeting from barmaid,ordered half rack of ribs . We were given four ribs with some barbecue sauce thrown over a handful of fries and small amount of coleslaw.mediocre food inflated prices.They then had the cheek to add on ten percent service charge.

Absolutely stunning countryside, I only booked a table at 12:05 pm today and it was ready when we arrived at 2:10pm, even though they were extreme busy! Staff were second to none, very attentive and professional and food was perfect. Amazing summer day in the Kent countryside, would recommend to everyone !

You can't be disappointed with the nice range of local ales and beers, and the food is amazing! You can't see the Bodiam castle from the garden in the summer, but it is fine, cos you can walk down to the pub from the castle and have a great lunch while waiting for your steam train👋🏻 impressive inglenook with two chairs my favourite spot🤩

Excellent food beet and service

We had lunch today at the white dog in Ewhurst Green. It is a beautiful pub and restaurant. The staff were really polite and very helpful. However, 3 of us ordered the fish and chips and 2 when they arrived were overcooked and greasy. They were sent back and replaced with no problems. The staff were really accommodating and very professional. In my opinion they need a new chef as we all agreed the chips were not good enough. It is such a shame as the staff and service were great.

We rented a beautiful house just up the road from this quaint pub and had attempted to book a table, however due to it being such a popular spot, we had to wait until Wednesday night to dine. Great interior,pleasant staff with good service. The food and beverages were superb. The local Harvey's ale was excellent. Would highly recommend.

First-class service, very good food and great ambience.

We was recommended the pub/restaurant by the Station Master at Northiam. The thing is with locally sourced food products, you can taste the difference, absolutely no condiments required. The local beer was good too

We had dinner at White Dog. Great furnishings, very nice beer garden, unfortunately the price-performance ratio for some of the dishes isn't quite right. The lamb and risotto were good, the fish & chips were unfortunately fatty and the steak with all the side dishes was very bland and without pizzazz, the meat was not cooked to medium rare, but very well done, which is what you should expect at almost £30. Maybe the chef was having a bad day but we wouldn't go again now as there are plenty of other pubs and restaurants in the area to choose from.

We had a lovely meal here for my daughter's 21st birthday ( 8 of us) . Some adventurous dishes including game as well as the usual pub fare . Food was very good( and we had a range of rabbit , burgers , fish and chips , lamb ) , service very good - the only thing I would say is I think they are trying too hard with the "skin on" chips - just normal , better crispy chips/fries please . Good gluten free options including gluten free beer from the pump . I know it's tricky ,but a more interesting wine list would be great too . All in all , though a great evening .

One pub we keep returning to. The food is always amazing and changes for the season. The options are varied to cover all tastes and occasions. We cannot fault it.

Had a fabulous lunch (venison pie, mash, gravy, veg!) here and a pint of Harvey’s! Really cosy on wet rainy day. Would really recommend. Not sure what their lighting is like - too hungry and forgot to look!!

Had lunch with friends there, very friendly and helpful staff. Food was beautifully presented and all locally sourced. We all had starters, mains and dessert, all freshly prepared and delicious. Looking forward to trying Sunday lunch and going back with family.

Even though we only live in Northiam, we’d not been for quite a while. And we will be going back as soon as possible. The food was wonderful, the service impeccable and the atmosphere fantastic. My wife said the fish cakes were the best she had ever tasted and my chicken, bacon and stuffing pie was amazing. My mother in law had the vegetarian shepherd’s pie and then locally made ice cream and the very tasty cheeseboard for dessert. Thank you for a marvellous Sunday lunch, we will be back soon.

We went here for Sunday dinner, we did all 3 courses between us, we enjoyed every single course. Roast was fabulous, service was extremely good and the ladies who served us were extremely pleasant. Our only problem was that as we are on dry January, we couldn’t have any of the lovely looking drinks behind the bar. Definitely would recommend and will be back to visit again.

What a great find this pub was. We were in our camper and stayed over in the carpark providing we ate dinner at the pub which we did. Lovely cozy country pub vibes. Big menu to choose from and all locally resourced. They have a black board in the pub stating where all their produce comes from which is such a great idea. The staff are friendly and provide great customer service. The food was unreal! You have to try the homemade honeycomb ice cream, the best ice cream I’ve ever had! I can’t wait to return in the new future.

Really enjoyable visit. Tracy was very helpful finding us a table that had space for our pram to go too. She was fab throughout. The food was really good, the only tiny thing is there wasn’t loads of choice for vegetarians but the two we went for were really, really good! The rissotto main and the halloumi fries were amazing(the halloumi fries probably the best I’ve had and I gave them quite a lot..). Veggie burger and potatoe and leek soup also very tasty. Would definitely go again if we stayed in the area. Highly recommended 👍🏻

This is the second time we have visited and the second time it didn’t disappoint , the food was loverly , beers was great and the service really good , what I like is not being hassled to give your order and clear your plates which gives ample opportunity to ignore your phone and talk with the company your in , great service great food great pub , we will be returning again

Visited last night for a meal with our two dogs whilst staying nearby. Great East Sussex pub with friendly welcoming staff. The food was delicious and the service spot on. We’ll definitely return and would highly recommend a visit!

I love this pub, usually. But garden was swarming with wasps. Not just a couple, swarming. Difficult to enjoying a meal with 25 wasps at your table. Would be a good idea to deal with problem, or warn customers. Staff were nice, and let us move to another table, inside, but by the time I had moved all our plates and glasses inside my food was cold. Sad because the roast was lovely.

Very pleasant pub atmosphere. We had starter of pear and walnuts goats cheese delicious although had to order bread separately to go with. Mains l had rump steak hubby had sirloin disappointing my steak was over cooked and fair bit of gristle hubby sirloin very average came with cash & carry chips and little salad leaves on side. Desserts l had raspberries in pastry case unfortunately it was bought in from cash & carry and quite inedible although filling was ok. Shame chef wasn’t able to make or use fresh pastry or make fresh chips. We x 3 glasses of wine and price £120 didn’t feel value for money . Will not be returning

Love visiting this pub, we have been a few times now with friends and family. Staff are so friendly and the food is delicious. It is very popular so do book.

My best friend and I were visiting great dixter and googled restaurant near by and found this new favourite place to go beautiful surroundings, menu made our mouths water, friendly staff our meals were delicious we will be back

This pub came well recommended and we were not disappointed. Both couples arrived at 12noon as booked and staff encouraged us to use the front garden and order quickly as up to 40 local campers were expected to arrive shortly and use the rear garden. This was really helpful. The short but interesting menu was supplemented by the blackboard inside showing the "catch of the day" specials. Three of our party opted for the grilled place (on the bone) with new potatoes and salad (£16.25), The fish was wonderfully fresh but i was a little surprised that the kitchen felt it necessary to slash the back of the fish? Just did not look good. I selected the main portion Bouillabaise (£19.90) which was first class. Hot, full of flavour, a little spicy, good mix of seafood such as mussels and prawns and white fish (all very fresh) and served in a huge pot with the lid for collecting shells etc. Also warm croutons and aoili served on the side gave a distinctly Mediterranean feel to the lunchtime, The service was efficient and friendly so the 10% charge was definitely merited. We all enjoyed our visit and would happily recommend the White Dog to others.

Food and menu great. Service slow and once they started clearing but well before closing we might as well not have existed. We had to chase staff to order desserts and after waiting about 15 minutes and asking when they might arrive we gave up...

Amazing food, all local ingredients and the menu event tells you the names of their suppliers. Piping hot on delivery and absolutely delicious. We are staying in Northiam and stopped off on the off chance that a table would be available.
