We were passing through Udimore and were looking for somewhere to stop and eat and decided to drop into the Kings Head. Great service and great food and a lovely traditional pub. We were the only group there admittedly (3 of us) at the time around midday I think, but none the less we liked what we experienced and would definitely visit again.

Me and my partner were visting the area for a weekend last month and decided we would book a meal in the KHU for our first evening. As it turns out, there was a power cut in the area the day we were travelling, which we actually only knew because the owners had very kindly called us to notify us and warn us that our meal might be affected so we could make other arrangements. We decided to pop in anyway on arrival and was greeted by a tremendously friendly and warm atmosphere and people sharing a drink and conversations by candle light. We stayed for a drink and then vowed to return the following day once the power outage in the area was resolved. We returned the following day, were remembered by the owners/staff and spent a good few hours in the afternoon having a meal, some drinks and geat conversation with the owners and a few of the patrons. As it turns out the owners are relatively new and were in the process of some renovation and improvements to what was there before. I cant remember a time in recent years where I have felt so welcomed in a place i'd never been to before, both me and my partner had a fantastic time and it was honestly a throwback to when more pubs had that community feeling. I cant wish the owners enough good luck in their continued improvements to the pub and whenever we are in the area again we will definitely be returning. An easy recommendation to anyone looking for a meal, a drink or just a great friendlt atmosphere!

Popped in for a Sunday lunchtime drink but then could not resist their latest addition, a "VERY" large Yorkshire Pudding rammed with a choice of meat and vegetables and a large jug full of delicious gravy, really filling and extremely delicious, served by a very friendly team in a delightful pub setting.

Very welcoming, we haven't been to this pub recently and were surprised by a very warm welcome. We had a roast beef and vegetables and a gammon, both with cauliflower cheese and accompanied by some Rioja. Food was OK, I've uploaded a couple of pictures, wine good. Outside seating, they have recently refreshed an extension room which is very clean and tidy. Also added some outside furnishings which we went and sat o. after lunch. Garden looks out over an apple orchard and in the sun it was idyllic, beautiful outlook a d very relaxed. It's definitely worth a visit when passing, staff are very accommodating but don't pester, with the extension there is a lot of room as well as a garden to chill in.

The KHU is a popular, down to earth pub and restaurant that has reopened with new owners and a new team. Focussing on what locals and visitors want rather than joining the glut of run of the mill olive or taupe painted gastropubs. Great menu, with something for everyone. Cosy traditional pub feel but stripped back and bought right up to date. The roast dinners are as good as any - you won't be disappointed. Mick, Hils and Mikita have used their many years of experience to make this one of the most welcoming places to meet up with friends, or just hang out and relax. A real asset to Udimore and the area.

The pub owner was very welcoming and said we could stay overnight in their parking area under the usual proviso that we had a meal in the restaurant. What a find! Disappointed, looked OK . But felt this pub was not up to scratch, person took ages pouring a pint more head than beer,as kept glass upright while trying to fill from the pump. Locals coming in announcing they feel rough full of 🥶?? Cold Could have been covid for we knew. Barman coughing as well as chef who prepared the food, letting everyone know she was passing her cold to her husband behind the bar. Felt uncomfortable with covid figures going up again these people should not be working or in a place that sells food. Meal OK but nothing special. This pub could be a lot better with improvements as in a prime position on the road.

We visited this pub as a family for a Sunday roast however our experience of this was terrible. The pub posted hand made food and we was offered the choice of turkey beef or pork and for £1 extra you could have another choice of meat,so we opted for turkey. When the meal arrived we were served with a small plate with two rubber potatoes, veg that was hard and crunchy and gravy that was obviously straight out of a pot,and was obviously gravy granules and the turkey was wafer thin packet turkey and we had one small piece each. The beef was fatty and obviously straight out of a packet and very chewy. Halfway through the meal we was asked if everything was okay to which we complained that the food wasn’t very nice so the lady said I’ll relay this to the chef, we all opted for the cheesecake which was meant to be home-made and it was it was disgusting, the topping on the cheesecake was not stodgy like it should be it was like they had used some sort of moose which was bubble and the stuff that was drizzled on the top looked like gravy. when it come to paying we then complained again but they offered us no discount so my wife paid then we complained again to which the bar lady said she would go and speak to the landlord. she then came back a few minutes later took £20 from the till and basically threw it at us. The whole experience was terrible don’t take our word for it go and try for yourself but be warned the Sunday roast is awful.

We found the kings Head by accident when a local road was closed and we were diverted along Udimore Road. The warmth of the welcome sums it up what a truly wonderful old world pub. Really well kept Harvey's ales from Lewes, a good but not overpriced wine list but the real highlight is the food. Wonderfully fresh local ingredients including the catch of the day from the boats landing at Rye harbour. We were impressed enough to visit again on the following week. We are hardly local that the trip for lunch is a 190 mile round trip. On a summer's day you can sit outside and overlook the orchard and the hills gently rolling down towards the sea. Idyllic.

Can only think that the latest posted review is from someone who visited a different Kings Head and the reviewer should take the review down as it could be defamatory. Been using this wonderful pub for some years now and whenever we are in the area this is the place we head to for food and Drink. The Kings Head in Udimore Road is a great standard British pub, it doesn’t serve posh nosh and isn’t a Bistro Pub. This pub serves wonderful, perfectly conditioned ale, and lagers, together wine good wines and an excellent choice of spirits. The food is first class and includes all of the traditional pub standards, but where it scores over other local establishments is that everything comes with friendliness, politeness and at exceptionally reasonable prices, you can’t beat this place, and long may it remain. The place is small and full of hazards, the ceiling are very low, and the stairs carpets not nailed down, it has no insect protection flys knats and wasps everywhere, and that's once you have checked in, the manger was more interested in serving beers than checking you in, the food is disgraceful and that's putting it mildly, I ordered cheeseburger and chips and was shocked at what they served (see pic) the waitress was apologetic and polite but the cook (I use this very lightly) was not happy it was sent back as we heard him from the kitchen at the back boasting he had 4 stars out of 7,i did not ask for a refund and none was offered. Visited in June for Sunday lunch with family. The cook wasn't wearing a mask and was coughing constantly over customers and the food which put us off straight away. The Sunday dinner tasted of liver even the veg . Swimming in horrid gravy . The dessert was diabolical (cheesecake) covered in some sort of brown gloop that tasted like balsamic vinegar. The Harvey's beer was flat and very warm. I know its not a gastro pub and I'm far from being a snob but I wouldn't recommend or visit again . We were in and out in 40 minutes.

We went in here for lunch as it looked from the outside a bit run down! We were hoping for an unspoilt old fashioned experience and that is exactly what we got - wonderful. We decided to both have the roast beef and for once it was cooked exactly as we like - NOT red with blood! The veg was good and the gravy wonderful. For dessert we chose fruit pie which came with TWO scoops of ice cream & homemade lemon cheesecake - lovely and amazing value at £11.95 for both courses.Beautiful views from outside just a shame it's a bit untidy. Doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t.If you want excellent food at value for money prices then this pub has it all.Plain old fashioned pub serving wonderful traditional pub food at excellent prices. Eaten here quite a few times when in the area and tried most of the menu choices but got to admit that the fish and chips are the tops. Jan, the chef, cooks the fish in home made beer batter which forms a lcrunchy yet thin coating around the fish sealing in all the juices as it cooks, the fish is effectively poached in its own juice and its stunning. Follow this up with bread and butter pudding and you can’t go wrong. If the above is not to your choice then there are loads of other options to go for all at excellent prices. True, you won’t find many “poncy” and designer dishes on offer but you will get excellent well cooked no nonsense food. Yes the pub is old fashioned but that’s it’s charm, it’s clean, just check out the gents, massive old fashioned individual urinals that close right around you, probably 100 years old but spotless and much fresher smelling than a lot of other local venues.Give this place a try but check the opening times as not open every dayHope you enjoy it, we do.

It's still a good old fashioned honest pub where what you see is what you get, nothing flash, everyone friendly and dogs are welcome (we'll take ours next time). Sunday Roast comes in at £11 a head which buys you Roast Beef, Pork, Lamb with all the trimmings freshly served, followed by Bread and Butter pudding, Apple Pie. Treacle Tart with either Ice Cream or Custard. Decent sized bowls as well! There is a full supporting menu, but again it's all good hot honest food. 4 of us ate here today. Two had roast lamb and two of us had the roast pork. Apparently the lamb was OK, but I had unfortunately chosen otherwise. After the plates had been wordlessly plonked on the table in front of us I viewed something that took me straight back to a 1970's canteen. The two plates of roast pork belly were just rubbery fat, fat and more fat. Some boiled white cabbage, carrots, broccoli, 'roast' potatoes that looked like they had been in the fat fryer and a Yorkshire pud. Not only was it fatty but it just tasted weird. It didn't taste like pork - the whole meal had a very odd flavour. So, when the table was being cleared I pointed out the two largely untouched meals and explained that we had not enjoyed our food. Next thing 'Chef' is steaming through the restaurant for a showdown at the table. She hissed at me that I should have complained earlier and that belly pork is fatty. Well I know that because it's my regular choice, but I do expect to find some meat on my plate or even the fat crisped up and COOKED. 'Chef' said that the flavour of the meat was down to the pig and not her. So I imagine this is the very cheap, imported, factory farmed meat. I had desert from the very limited choice of three on offer. Apple crumble and custard - stodgy old affair that was with the apple tasting and looking the same as the sauce that had accompanied the ill-fated pork. As we were leaving the waitress explained that they had not charged us for one of the meals as if this was a great favour on their part. Not the point. There are great pubs out there serving good Sunday roasts which I am happy to pay for. I was also taken aback by 'Chef' attempting to embarrass us in front of the very few other customers. Oddly, 'Chef' directed most of her replies to the very elderly (90) yr old member of our party by leaning forward on our table in a threatening manner.

We shared a seafood platter for starters and it was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I had the home made burger for main and couldn't do it justice. My husband had the steak pudding and there was loads of meat in it. You couldn't leave here and still be hungry. Staff and customers were friendly and welcoming.

A cracking little pub. We were in Battle as participants at the Battle of Hastings event at the abbey. Popped in on the Friday night, and came back the Saturday it was so nice. Friendly, attentive staff, great atmosphere and one of the finest pints of Harveys in the county..

Go through the dowdy antique shop frontage into the tiny, almost cramped room behind and prepare for a treat. We three all picked the all day breakfast; proper bacon, real butcher's sausages and all the trimmings. At around £6, with coffee refills, we couldn't have been happier!

Really fresh tasty fish, cooked to order, always piping hot, always good sized portions and the staff are lovely too.

Cappuccino was not cappuccino, just normal coffee with chocolate on. Definitely not worth £3
