Nice place to visit, food was good, but we had a few small issues (forgotten items, miscommunication with our order and my partners burger was dry). My burger was nice, everything was hot. Good selection of food on the menu and the staff were lovely.

We’ve been a couple of times in the last year and really pleased with the food and service. Recently had the Sunday roast which I really enjoyed.

The location is good near Rye station. The food is very fresh and tasty. The circumstance and atmosphere are really cozy. Really really recommend for as the first meal in Rye to start a wonderful journey haha

Visited here 3 times this week whilst on holiday and every time everything was perfect. They are dog friendly and our dogs appeared very comfortable and they were very well behaved on each visit.. the menu is limited but is done very well. The roast is amazing and it is also worth getting the extra sides as the pigs in blankets are huge and the best sausages we have had and the cauliflower cheese with bacon is amazing. Staff are very friendly and create an easy atmosphere. It is a bit more expensive here but you get what you pay for and it really is worth it

Randomly stumbled across this restaurant when visiting Rye. Lovely decorated place and the two blood waitress that served us was so welcoming and had a lovely warm personalities. Our food was lovely we have a beef burger, lamb burger and pork lion. Our only complaint would been the green beans with the lion was hardly cooked but this all depends how you like your vegetables. I would 100% recommend and will return to this restaurant when next visiting Rye.

Randomly selected this restaurant whilst visiting Rye - and I’m so pleased we did! Great service, excellent food and outstanding value. Wine was lovely, milkshakes were delicious, and the steak…. The steak was probably one of the best I’ve ever had!! If you’re in Rye and want a good restaurant, I’d suggest you go here. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing lunch at Hoof on a Sunday afternoon. The food was good. And the service was extremely friendly and attentive. We had the goat cheese salad and the crispy squid for starters and the rump steak and the mussels for mains. All dishes were nicely prepared. I think the chips were one of the best I have tried. And most ingredients are sourced locally. For drinks we tried the local lager which was very good.

This was a lucky find. The steak was great and came with a good selection of sauces, veg and so on to make a really satisfying meal. They were also very accommodating for our two year old, and the place overall felt comfortable and welcoming.

Lovely place to enjoy a good meal in charming Rye. We had the special chef's steak and we found the meat full of flavour. The included sides were also nice and generously sized, especially the onion rings! Staff gave a warm welcoming and good service.

Booked a table for 2 on a Monday evening. Lovely cosy restaurant. It could be a bit stuffy in summer when all the tables are booked. So we recommend booking from 8pm if you're visiting in summertime. The food was very nice especially the aubergines glazed with soy sauce/miso was gorgeous (5/5) as well as the sides! Very tasty burger (4/5) and delicious Banofee (4/5). The portions were perfect for us. Great service by lovely people.5/5 Overall, we had a very pleasant evening. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Rye.

Bit expensive and, very slow service but not bad food to be fair.

Everything was absolutely fantastic! The food was incredible and they had great vegetarian options. The service was super efficient and our waitress Isabel (or Isabelle?) was so sweet and came to check up on us and make sure we had everything we wanted! Definitely a 10/10 evening and I would leave more stars if I could, as we all had so much fun!

Definitely Worth a Visit in Rye! We popped in while we were visiting Rye village and so glad we did. Our waitress Jess deserves a special mention as she was so welcoming, checking in with us throughout the meal, she really made the visit special. For our meal we had the Steak Surf & turf, The Hogget Lamb Burger and the Mussels in White Wine. All the food was truly delicious! We will be visiting again when coming to Rye to try more of the menu, thank you again!

Lunch for 5 today as birthday meal for my Mum. The kids meals were good, my sisters lamb burger special was okay. My Mum's pork loin was delivered as a tough pork chop with an empty jug which should have contained gravy. When queried we were told "sorry he keeps doing that". My Hoof Salad was extremely poor for a restaurant meal containing 7 cubes of feta, one small piece of artichoke and 3 tiny tomatoes cut in quarters on top of a few tablespoons of cous cous. The Hoof salad is very small overpriced main of basically 70% of undressed lettuce. When we were asked when we had finished if it all was okay I raised the inadequate salad and the fact the pork was tough. I recieved no apology and just that she would let the chef know. The waitress did not return with any comments. When we asked for the bill we were charged the gratuity which we asked to be removed as we were not happy with the meal. My sister and I were jointly paying. The waitress could not work out 50% of the bill for us each to pay which I worked out for her. The table was sticky on entering the restuarant even though the table had been reserved and was waiting for us. We should have seen that sign and politely left then. We felt this was not a good lunch and would not return due to the below standard food and lack of care from the kitchen or staff when we raised issues. I would not recommend.

A pleasant time spent with family in this restaurant in Rye in Sussex. Charming little town to visit on foot. The restaurant is warm and offers different meals. I recommend this place.

I'm not one to leave many reviews but I have got to say that Hoof is a proper gem of a place, staff where lovely, atmosphere was chilled and the food...good god the food was amazing. Even the starters blew me away and the spread of the Big Boy Rump was just amazing. Will certainly come back again.

2nd time visiting this place when in Rye. Always great food with great customer service. We went for the special on the board which was a share platter steak. Come with fries and vegetables, onion rings and 4 sauces. Great value for the money. A decent amount of meat which was cooked perfectly. Always recommend this spot.

Visited on two evenings because the food was so good.The staff were very friendly.We were welcomed immediately and the food came to the table in perfect time,not too fast so that you knew it was all freshly cooked.The pork loin was very thick but juicy,the burgers delicious.

Busy half term night. Welcomed 6 bikers in for a table upstairs . Very kind staff and good burgers and coffee as epic . We will be back for sure .

We ordered the chicken Sunday roast and baked Camembert with flat bread special. Both were delicious, and when we asked for more flat bread to finish the Camembert we weren’t charged extra.

Incredible pub, caters for gluten free and my coeliac girlfriend with separate fryers and gluten free bread. Chicken roast is an absolute highlight, staff were incredibly friendly and well informed on allergies, pub have great music and atmosphere

Worthwhile visiting this little gem.

Today we visited Hoof and, unfortunately, it was a letdown. We ordered two beef burgers and one chicken burger for takeaway. The burgers were quite small, and they looked even smaller next to the decent-sized chips. While the toppings were tasty, they couldn't make up for the lack of heft. "The Hen" chicken burger had a small half chicken breast that was dry and needed more juiciness and flavourful toppings. The chips were pretty good, though slightly over-salted. Fortunately, it was easy enough to brush off the excess salt. The most disappointing part was finding a long hair(!) in one of the beef burgers, which ruined the meal. Also, we were charged a 10% service fee for takeaway(!) — an unexpected and unwelcome surprise. In summary, the decent chips and tasty toppings can't outweigh the small burgers, dry chicken, the hair in the food, and the unjustified service charge. Sorry guys, but it is what it is.

Third time visit, this time it seemed you were a commodity, my mother and myself were constantly called you guys ? Like everybody else it seemed. The roast was keenly priced but not keenly appropriated. The beef was very good and tender, and the vegetables were OK, apart from the roast potatoes that were hard and served lukewarm. In summary quite disappointing. Hey ho..

We love this place. Service always brilliant and staff so friendly. The Satay chicken as a small dish was actually mouthwatering so tender. My favourite is there Lamb burger and the biscoff sundae wow. Visit,eat,drink and enjoy. We always do. Xxx Victoria from Tenterden.

Food was a bit disappointing nothing like the pictures printed on the menue. The lamb burger was underwhelming with little lettuce and a faint hint of blue cheese. The king prawn starter (3 prawnd) was advertised as spiced! There was nothing spiced about these prawns and for £8 a tad over priced I think in the picture there is five prawns. The chicken salad has one quarter if an artichoke and a tiny amount of cheese. All in all it looks like corners have been cut which is a shame as the presentation and the staff where 10 out of ten. With a few tiny improvements the Hoof would be amazing.

A small and beautiful restaurant. The food is excellent

I have been for the first time to this enchanting pub, the service was outstanding, everybody was friendly, I have been served by a lovely young lady called Bell. This time I came with my 2 doggies, the staff were happy with my doggies, so I feel welcome. I'm happy to returned. The food was yummy, I ate fish and chips, food was fresh. This pub is absolutely great. If you have pets go there and have fun.

Went there about 7pm on Sunday 7th April, and requested a table for two. Was seven others people there already, so fairly quiet. Informed that as it has been busy a lot of what was on the menu wasn't actually available, fair enough. Wanted "The Hen Burger". Ordered a Freak Shake, bottle of water and two Hoof Burgers. Took a while to get the Freak Shake, during this time one of the other diners was allowing their dog to bark in a virtually empty restaurant....The staff there didn't request it stop... Burgers arrived, looked different from how I remember... My Wife bit into hers and thick dark red blood came out of the patty, a couple of bites into mine, I discovered it too... Didn't want to stay for a replacement, paid for Freak Shake, my water and left... Third time being at Hoof in Rye, we hadn't been for a while as previously there was a group where every other word was "F", "S" and some "C" and prior to that a couple were having a massive argument.... Paid £15.95 for the Freak Shake and water (which wasn't San Pellegrino as stated), this confirmed not to ever visit again... The £15.95 I have just seen on my receipt, included a discretionary 10% Gratuity...!! Poor experiences... Shame....

Delicious rump steak. Was not very tender but very flavourful. Some of the best chips I’ve had. Dessert was ok - banoffee pie was very sweet. Poached pears was refreshing. Waitress was very friendly.

Had lunch here - 2 amazing dishes: crispy squid, beef short-rib and then the lamb burger was ok. This chips were also really good. Recommend a stop here.

Food was delicious (had the Sunday roast and mushroom burger without a bun), staff were very accommodating with requests for the dishes and helped choosing a wine. Atmosphere was cosy and intimate. Happily recommend.

One of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. Dry, stale bread, burger patty so dry it crumbled up. I was so disappointed after reading all the good reviews. The staff were really pleasant - super friendly. But the food was truly awful.

In a typically English manner, I’m sorry about this.. but.. the food we had today was very average and a bit bland (we had mushroom pasta) I would have mentioned this at the time but no one even asked how the food or our experience was, they just seemed mainly concerned with taking the money. The point of coming out to eat, hopefully is that it’s better than you could make at home and an all round enjoyable experience, this was not the case . I want to make it absolutely clear that I don’t blame the young staff in the restaurant, they were doing their best, but the manager or owner of the restaurant.

Good value for money for in Rye with a menu that is likely to please a crowd. We ordered salt & pepper squid and cauliflower croquettes to start, followed by a couple of burgers (attracted by the prospect of locally sourced beef). The squid was nice, but the cauliflower croquettes lacked flavour and perhaps could have done with more seasoning or some cheese. Our burgers were fine but the meat was a bit dry. They came accompanied with some excellent chips, however, as well as some astonishingly tasty pickle relish. We enjoyed the atmosphere inside the restaurant - there was a great playlist of millennial tunes to accompany our meal! I found the spotlight style lights a tad bright personally and think dimming the light in the restaurant would make it even nicer. Service was a bit slow to get going. I like to order drinks quickly after sitting down.

Food was absolutely exceptional. One of the best burgers I've ever had and my daughter's pork chop was ridiculous. Brilliant find.

I didn’t realise that my torte was a posh brownie. It was tasty though with a generous amount of hazelnuts and a fair scoop of tasty chocolate ice cream. It was tasty and it was definitely needed otherwise the warm brownie was moist, but it would’ve been dry without. It was definitely very indulgent and creamy and they definitely had used dark chocolate. Dave’s cheesecake was in quite a small pot, with a jelly like strawberry sadly it wasn’t that flavoursome. I misread the warm muled wine. It was cider and it sadly didn’t taste very cinnamony or festive. But the staff were helpful and they didn’t come and bother you and left you in peace. It was the end of day and going into evening. So I was tired. But a nice place but both places in Rye were expensive.

I had hogget burger , (was lovely &moist came with blue cheese,bit to strong in flavour , for my taste , took over the flavour of Hogget (I personally ,would have loved it ,served with Feta cheese, as came with hibiscus jam ). More in keeping with Turkish / Persian food . Would definately be back such a lovely menu ,both in food & wine . Great lovely friendly staff .

It was so cozy and warm, the food was absolutely amazing and the price was soo good for the amount of food you get and the customer service was brilliant, the food was also brought to us very quickly. This restaurant has made me fall in love with Rye more, I will definitely be going there again!!!!

Walked in without a reservation, and judging by how many people they unfortunately had to turn away, we timed it well! We were warned of a 30-40 min wait in food as we were seated which was fine, and I didn't time it but I don't think it took that long for our two burgers to come out. The menu is varied, with a few daily specials too. Drinks were reasonable and again, a good selection. Our two burgers (one beef and one lamb) were delightful, and the fries some of the crispiest I've had in a while. The service stood out though, with the team being personable and friendly - impressive after working all through December in my opinion!

Wow! Hoof truly exceeded my expectations. The Hoof burgers with excellent chips were absolutely fantastic, and the festive burger was a delightful surprise. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, and the meat was top-notch. The staff were excellent, and the cozy atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. A definite 5-star experience - I can't wait to come back!

We had the Hoof burger, and the Mussels and chips. The burger was incredibly mediocre, the beef patty dry and overall tasteless. The mussels were better, but the butter taste was overwhelming. The atmosphere and staff were great though.

The Hoof served the best fries ever! The fries were clearly made with excellence and fresh from the farm! I was incredibly impressed - I hope they consider opening a branch near/in London!

Nice place, cosy, homely and a different menu. I had the mini taco starter and would happily have it again. My brother had the short rib of beef and thought it was excellent. Coffee was really nice.

First visit. Impression is good. Walked in with no booking, seated immediately. Casual atmosphere and I liked the wooden furniture. Food came in a reasonable time. Menu isn’t large so you won’t get confused. Steak was ok, not the best I’ve had but was still ok to have, cooked properly. Fries were very good. I loved the Tacos, they tasted really good and had generous amount of meat. This place is good for a casual date for sure and I would visit again when we I go to Rye.

Since moving to Rye in 2018 we have always been fans of Hoof! Courgette fries, freakshakes... and takeaway Sunday Roasts. Always tasty, fresh, traceable food and friendly service.

Great service from the waitress! The lamb burger was lovely and absolutely loved the complimentary fudge cake mini bites at the end, and the waitress generously gave us a box to take away of more fudge cake mini bites, plus the soup of the day was also lovely!

We have had some excellent meals here. Would heartily recommend

Last minute choice for the night…and what s lucky one! Flat Iron superb and even more for the price…highly recommended. The tacos were also incredibly tasty, better than in many Mexican restaurants I’ve tried! The service is really nice and attentive and the place is cozy and warm…without a doubt the place to go for a great meal in Rye!

We went to The hoof as we heard good feedback about this place. Lovely friendly service from the staff, we didn’t book so we just walked in. Got served drinks straightaway. The starters was good and well presented, me and my husband both had steaks for mains that were cooked perfect. We didn’t have dessert. It was all good but I wish they did garlic bread🤣.

First time and last here. Start with the place was cold sat by the door. Very squashed place. Food came out cold overpriced wasn't value for money by any means. Staff young but friendly lacked experience. By far better places to eat. Didn't pay for the meal. And won't recommend this place...

Lovely food,roast a bit pricey. There were a lot of staff for very few people and considering the number of staff we still had to get their attention to get service. Not very professional, the young girl who had a woollen winter scarf wrapped around her head,talking loudly about everyone. For such a lovely restaurant,if the staff had some customer service training and respect for their customers it would be a fantastic restaurant. Maybe this was the reason that the Hoof was so quiet on a lovely dry Sunday afternoon/evening. We have visited this restaurant many times and never experienced such an awkward atmosphere. Behind the counter 2 chefs,1 kp and 3 waitresses,we were the only table in there,felt like we were intruding!

One of the best Sunday roasts ever tried. The beef was tender and juicy with an amazing gravy. The beef burger was really big and all the ingredients were super tasty. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lovely food and beautiful inside. Great gluten free options, daughter had the burger with the gluten free bun and gluten free chips and I enjoyed the autumn soft tacos. Also dog friendly which was a pleasant surprise (always a challenge on holiday with a coeliac and a dog!). Would definitely come back, very friendly staff as well.

The sirloin steaks were so tough they were difficult to cut with a steak knife and one was returned as was definitely rare and medium was requested. The onion ring arrived cold and overcooked but the replacements were greasy and tasteless . One £31 pound fillet meal was served with a slice of mushroom which tasted like rubber . The fillet was good as was the peppercorn sauce but way over priced for the quality of the overall meal

Oct 23 Lovely setting and visit recommended when in Rye. Staff very welcoming and helpful and attentive. Food was very good quality and cooked well. Moules and frites thoroughly enjoyed.

Cute place, friendly service. Gave 4 stars as there was a mixup with our order so we waited for over an hour for food.

Put profit over loyal customers. We have been going to Rye for many years and have found the Hoof a very nice place to eat. Today my wife and I tried to book a table for two on 22nd of December months in advance and they refused. They will only take bookings for parties over seven. Shame as will not be going back booked a table for two at a competing restaurant.

Had a house hoof burger, felt it needed more of a generous amount of tomato, pickle and cheese as it was quite dry and hard work to eat, nice fries nice people though
