Battle Bakes and Cakes in Rother

We visited twice last week, sausage rolls, chicken pie, tea for 2. Delightful and delicious. Doughnuts, iced fingers even better. Highly recommend. Queue out the door for take outs 2nd visit - we are not surprised!

This was a great find today, the staff where amazing. We had a Belgian bun each and a coffee it was delicious. Shame i live so far away. Well done guy's 👏

The perfect spot to have a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate with some of those many delicious baked goods on display. Sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, the food and the friendly and timely service.

Went in here to grab lunch with a co worker, the food was great, but was really disappointed by how we were treated by one employee. My co worker was nothing but friendly and happy and the employee seemed to struggle to even grant her eye contact or more than one word replies. She really gave off the attitude that she couldn't stand having us in the room. Once we payed for our items we went to sit down until the employee called across the cafe that we hadn't payed 'eat-in' prices, effectively asking us to leave. At no point did she ask if we were staying or going. I'm stunned at the lack of hospitality as we were clearly working for charity services. I really hope that this employee was simply having a bad day, and that it didn't have to do with the colour of my coworker's skin. Really expected better.

Best cup of tea. We were spoilt with the choice of cakes, bread and pastries, all home made on the premises. Prices were reasonable, locals said this is the best bakery in town, proved by the fact that there was a constant stream of satisfied customers.

Had a Black Forest Gateau made for my Dads Birthday and it did not disappoint , was lovely. I was also pleased with how it was presented and would recommend. I would definitely go back. Also when ringing up to order it the staff were very polite and helpful and just couldn't fault them at all.

Amazing cakes provided for a family funeral. The staff couldn’t have been more understanding and helpful and made the whole process so easy. A feast of cup cakes, doughnuts,brownies, millionaires shortbread, pastries and rocky roads were delivered direct to the venue and surpassed all expectations, and superb value for money. Would not hesitate to recommend this business.

Came here for the first time today,had a small breakfast & an iced coffee. Food cooked to perfection, best tasting bacon I have had for a very long time, bread made on the premises, Iced Coffee comes in a pint glass. Highly recommend this place.

Staff were friendly and the scrambled eggs were the best in South England! I would thoroughly recommend popping in if you’re in the beautiful town of Battle.

Popped in following trip to Abbey and Battlefield. Had ham sandwich with lovely fresh bread followed by delicious scones with jam and cream. Very reasonably priced

We called in for a coffee with our elderly greyhound having been attracted by the mouth watering cake display in the window. It's also nice to know that your dog is welcome and it proved even more so when she was offered a sausage that was readily accepted. Friendly staff too.

Busy cafe with good quality fresh made cakes and coffee. Fairly non Descript decor but clean. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Came in for some coffee and cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious and the lovely ladies who were serving us, also gave us some cut up sausage for our dog to enjoy, which was very sweet! We also had a baguette (large enough for two to split) and bought some freshly baked bread. The staff were all great and very efficient, everything we had was tasty and the prices were very reasonable. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Battle. Thank you!

Staff aren’t friendly at all, even to regular visitors. the hygiene training also needs revisiting. Handling money with the same gloves you handle food with is not ok. I have lived locally for a year and am shocked at the constant price increases…£1.80 for a chocolate shortbread? It was £1.60 last week and even that was too expensive. Its insanity, even with the current inflation. Much as I like to support independent businesses, I do have my limits. I’ll be buying from a supermarket from now on and getting a whole cake for the same price!

Possibly the most expensive bakery I have ever been to! It’s not unusual to turn up and find that your favourite item has gone up 20p…AGAIN! I know things are expensive these days, but the price rises are way too high and frequent so sadly I won’t be using them any more

The best pecan danish! Staff very friendly and smiling giving a welcoming environment! I will definitely be making more visits here.

My favourite bakery in Battle. Amazing cakes, great lunch options and friendly staff.

Popped here for a lite bite before visiting the Abbey. Opted for a ham salad sandwich with a cup of tea followed by a Bath bun and husband had a ham and cheese sandwich followed by a London cheesecake. The sandwiches were made fresh and were lovely.

This is a pleasant tea room with friendly staff. I ate a delicious Cornish Pastie for lunch in the cafe area. This was reasonably priced.

We had a superb breakfast bap here, I like that the price of the drink is included. The food is high quality as of course, you get fresh cooked bread/ rolls.

I recently came to Battle Bakes and Cakes with my mum for her birthday. We sat in the back of the bakery and shared a cream tea and a big glazed bun (possibly called a Bath bun). The bun and scones were the best we have ever tasted, we loved it! The clotted cream was gorgeous and the coffee was excellent. We will definitely be back and have recommended the bakery to my nan and auntie and will continue to do so to many other people. The staff were so friendly and lovely and it is excellent value for money. Thank you! :)

Great breakfast. Fantastic bread.

We were lured in by the tempting cakes in the huge window display. According to the lady we paid the items are baked in house. It's obviously popular all the while we had our refreshments there was a queue for eat in or takeaway. Reasonable priced and I even brought a loaf for home.

Would definitely recommend a visit. Breakfast was good as was lunch. Good selection of of cakes and sandwiches/rolls to take away. Lovely choices of fresh bread, pasties, cakes etc.

What a lovely tearoom this was. We called in for their excellent and very reasonably priced breakfast and were not disappointed. Even the dog was given a sausage. Lovely friendly staff.

A super little bakery. Stopped on our way to Eastbourne and had a tasty freshly-made sandwich with salad garnish. Great customer service too ... service with a smile, and you don't get that everywhere these days!

I whitnessed rolls being dropped on the floor while a customer was being seved and the person serving picked them up off the floor and placed them back into the roll basket / shelf. Staff serving wear gloves but handle the money and the bread / rolls with the same gloved hands. This needs to be addressed asap. This is not the only bakery I see this. Food having been dropped on the floor and replaced for sale, is quite frankly, dreadful. Please re train and amend basic food hygiene practice asap. Thank you.

This bakery is what every city or large town is missing - excellent selection of products, seasonal bits too, phone up and they will reserve and make it special, and I appreciate the effort it must take

Excellent place to pop in for a cup of tea and sandwich or even a nice breakfast. Or you can just buy a loaf of bread and some cakes. They have a really good range of bread and indeed cakes. They will also do sandwiches to order and have loads of different fillings. I love it. Always pop in when I am in Battle.

We came in following a visit to the Abbey and local museum, traditional tea room and bakery offering light and snacks food. Great sandwiches with a choice of filling and a pot of tea for two for a tenner isn't a bad price. Highly recommended and will definitely be trying some cakes next visit

Friendly staff and a great choice of cakes. We had a Viennese whirl and a Danish (massive ) washed down with cups of tea. We both agreed these were the best cakes we have had in ages.

Had breakfast here when staying at the George. The breakfasts were well presented and cooked but took a while to arrive. the staff were friendly and charming. Excellent value

Called here for breakfast .I had the large breakfast with cappuccino & my wife beans on toast with bacon and tea .Service Ok. Breakfast good although my egg yokes were not soft Overall very good

Excellent cakes. I have ordered a carrot cake, Victoria sponge, and a lemon drizzle cake and was so impressed with how yummy they all were and how beautiful the cakes looked. I highly recommend their other lovely treats available to purchase in store as well. One happy customer here.

I go to battle bakery every week and I have not once had a bad experience. All the staff are lovely and always chatty whenever I go in there. I have ordered bulk rolls and baguettes from them in the past and they have never failed to produce what I asked for. When I have bought a lot of items in the past for either work or bbqs people have commented on how lovely the rolls and cakes are and even asked where I have got them from. Through out the pandemic they have amazed me with the way they have just got on with things and adapted with their work load. I would recommend people to go there and just even try their sticky buns as they are the best and I can't wait to try their new nuttella donut. Keep up the good work ladies A++++ to you all.

The staff in here now know me as I frequent here so often, I'm not sure if that's positive or not but they are always polite and helpful. They even go out of their way to decorate ginger bread men while I wait if I get there before they are ready knowing my 4 year old would be disappointed without! Their bread is delicious and that is coming from someone who rarely eats bread. I always think it s a reasonable price too when taking things away, especially the price you can pay for mass produced products in the supermarkets.

We go here every week and get a load of bread and something sweet for our lunch. I can't not recommended this place enough. Food is always amazing and never disappoints. They always have something yummy on offer even if it is late into the day. The staff are lovley and always welcoming. I would highly recommend and will continue to be a returning customer. I visit Battle Bakes and Cakes every Saturday and I can't recommend the place highly enough! The staff, particularly Mandy and Angela, are so friendly and welcoming, and the array of freshly baked cakes/biscuits and bread is second to none! All the cakes are delicious, especially the Belgian buns which are huge, and the eccles cakes. The hot cross buns are by far the best I've ever tasted!I'm so grateful to have a regular order of bread that I collect (for my family and 3 separate elderly relatives) and even during the height of the pandemic there have never been any problems with it and the staff are always so lovely when I call.It's what I call a real old fashioned bakers and even having to queue outside sometimes because of social distancing is a pleasure because you can admire all the fabulous goodies on display in the window!

I have read a rather negative view of our fabulous bakery in Battle. The shop does without doubt the best bread for miles around. You can pre-order a vast array of speciality breads and they will even bake them to your requirements - we like ours very well done and it is always fabulous.Mandy and Angela have always been so helpful and friendly and we have never had a bad experience since Matt took over the shop a few years ago. They are such a great shop to have on our High street along with Ffrench's Fishmongers - pay a visit for yourself and form your own opinion.

I like small independent shops, of which Battle has lots. I have been to Battle Bakes & Cakes twice, on both occasions the staff were miserable and rude, made to feel like I should be grateful they served you at all. Will not be returning, especially after checking their food hygiene rating. Such a shame Battle doesn’t have a lovely bakery to go with all the other great independent shops.

Welcoming, delicious toasties, tea & hot chocolate as well as lovely range of cakes- and gorgeous loaves of bread to take away too. Excellent value for money. Staff were kind & dealing well with Covid measures. We very much enjoyed our time here & will certainly be back.

Madam and I expected better, as we had been recommended to visit. Food was OK, not fantastically cooked but OK. We asked for soft fried egg and crispy bacon.......it came the opposite way round! Nice staff, decent tea, refilled as well but food quality let it down.
