The best restaurants serving British food in England

We have been on previously and the food and service is superb. Great value and will go again. The soup was a lovely carrot and coriander. The turkey was cooked to perfection and the gravy is sublime. The cheeseboard was huge with a good selection and finally the mince pies were warm homemade delights. Six of us went and all loved every aspect of it.

Wow - what a wonderful restaurant. First class service and outstanding food - what a truly amazing experience. A lovely atmosphere from the moment we stepped through the door.

Lovely take away fish and chips. All fresh and crispy. I was pleased they did a smaller portion of haddock and chips, it was delightful.

If we could put an 11 out of 10 we would do. From the moment we were greeted at the door and coats taken to the friendly waitress who took us to our table and and gave us just excellent service. We started with a beer and expresso coffee while sitting and choosing what to have off the menu. Just to say every thing we chose looked good and was very tasty including a very nice bottle of wine. Plus we didn't feel rushed when we had our coffees at the end of our meal just a brilliant evening. Plus our friendly waitress sings and plays in a local band. Called Peachy Keen . They are good. From the moment we walked through the front door we were made to feel welcome. The dining room is warm and cozy, the decor eclectic. With a choice of two menus, the bar or specials there was plenty of choice. The bar menu giving you the option to reduce your per head spend. We all opted for dishes from the specials menu!! We are a family that loves our food. Every dish was beautifully presented, well proportioned and delicious. I can whole heartedly recommend the goats cheese and pesto beignets to start and if you have a big appetite the ribeye surf and turf. There was a great choice of gluten free or gluten free adaptable options and with no gluten contamination in the fryers we could all share the fries. We only managed one dessert between six of us and were delighted with the lemon sorbet presented inside a frozen lemon. The staff were all knowledgeable and willing to help with menu suggestions, and adjustments to suit dietary requirements. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are not in the area it is worth going out of your way to enjoy dinner.

Don’t even bother to try and get through to book a table. No one ever answers or responds to emails. Incredibly poor communication systems

Unusual(but great)menu with fresh local food and bread made on site, very friendly staff. Great coffee and refreshing orange juice toilets available but only one.

We loved this place! Excellent range of hot and cold lunch choices and an equally good selection of cheeses. Staff were friendly and helpful- and it was easy to choose really healthy local produce if you wanted to.

Booked and paid a £30 deposit for lunch on Easter Sunday only to turn up to find the restaurant closed with a closed until further notice sign on the door. No message from them to inform us. DO Not Book with this restaurant wherever they are now.

What a lovely country pub. All the staff are friendly and chatty and such a warm atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious. Very well prepared, cooked perfectly, and well presented. The mushroom and brandy pate was a great choice. Sunday roast was perfect. The pork loin, veg, and roast potatoes were absolutely lovely. Cannot fault the food at all. Will definitely be doing a return visit.

The white hart has become the regular pick for most of our family occasions, with good reason. The food is exceptional and the banter is world class. Well be back again soon!

Just had to write one final review of this excellent restaurant which is now sadly closed. We were lucky enough to have our second (and now, final) chance to try their tasting menu, and every dish was a delight. Looking forward to seeing whether there will be a new place with Michelin stars to try soon!

This was a 50th Birthday celebration meal and some of the tasting courses were disappointing. We had bbq lettuce which just tasted burnt and very strong tasting trout with cucumber which was terrible. It was very expensive for what we received. We had mentioned upon booking that it was a 50th Birthday and all they did was stick a candle in a blob of ice cream, not a Happy Birthday written in chocolate or even a strawberry to make it look special.

Another cracking lunch yesterday. Fantastic value and great service. North Sea Cod Triple Cooked Chips, Creamed Peas, Tartare Sauce Chocolate Torte ‘Honey snap’ Basket, Strawberry Sorbet

We went for dinner last night, with another couple. My wife had the belly pork....it was delicious and the crackling was so lovely. Our friends had sreak, cooked to perfection. I had the Mexican chicken salad.....THE best salad I have ever had. Nice staff. The owner was lovely, and came to chat. If you're in the area, you must try the Barley Mow.
