Enjoyed a family meal, 4 people plus baby. Limited seats create intimate dining area. Friendly staff. Varied menu. Was able to cater for a GF meal. Also ordered to take away. Meal plus drinks for 4 cost about £50, very reasonable for area!

We are a gang of 10 friends, and just looking for a bite and cuppa. Have to say not the most attractive from the outside but we ordered soups a Welsh rarebit and scones. Everything was stunning, the scones hot and loads of cream, bread with the soups plentiful and the pots of tea copious. Really nice staff too, happy to rearrange the tables to suit the 10 of us. Highly recommend.

Visited this cafe today on our way home from a weekend away nearby. Wasn’t sure where to eat in Coniston so got on google and this place came up and I am so glad we went! What a lovely homely place. We sat down and a lady came to clear the table for us from the previous people and wiped down. There is a standard menu and also specials board with a good amount to choose from. I opted for the broccoli and cheddar soup and a sandwich, partner had Welsh rarebit and the same soup. The food was good quality homemade food. Really good size portions and the prices were very reasonable. We were a tad full after our food or else we would have got one of the homemade cakes wow they looked amazing! The staff were lovely from the lady that served us to the guy that was also serving he had a great way with the customers. If you visit Coniston please visit this lovely place.

A wonderful friendly cafe. We went for coffee and cake. There was a wide range of great cakes. I had the cherry and bakewell sponge, it was delicious. The coffee was excellent and a full mugful. What a lovely cafe. Family of 7 all had an amazing breakfast. The vegetarian sausages were the best we've ever had, the meat breakfast was also super. The Jam with the teacake was a delight. Really friendly service. comepteitively priced. defintiely recommend. We had to pay by cash as the card machine wasn't working. Seriously worth the effort of going to the garage to get out cash, honestly you won't regret it. we also tried the beatiful cakes too; chocolate cake and lemon drizzle cheescake. Almost worth driving another 8 hours to visit this cafe again.

We were staying up the road in a place that didn`t do breakfast and the owner recommended the Green House Keeper to us. It`s a lovely little place, with really friendly staff and we had a mix of cooked breakfasts and breakfast buns. All of them were lovely and incredible value compared to some of the other places in Coniston. Without doubt, the Green House Keeper has to be the best place for breakfast in Consiton.

My husband and I visited for lunch. We both had different types of soup. They were obviously both home made and were so tasty! The servings were large and came with home made bread which we couldn’t even finish. Our coffee and tea , which came in pot with a knitted tea cosy , were hot and freshly brewed. The scones with jam and cream were absolutely delicious! All this came at a very reasonable price and with friendly service! I’d left my mobile phone on the table and the staff kept this safe for me until I returned to pick it up. I really appreciated this honesty. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little gem to anyone!

What a great find in Coniston after a lakeside walk. Small cozy cafe full of locals & regulars, says a lot about it. Good menu with 5 soups to choose along with specials and the printed menu. Coffee was hot & strong, perfect for a winter's day. We had Matt's Special (chicken, bacon, cheese & BBQ sauce layered on top of thick toast) and toast with beans & egg, both were very tasty & filling. If it's busy, it's worth waiting for.

So I’m not normal one to leave a review, that being said overall I was hugely disappointed with the meal I had at the Knipe Grill at Gilpin Lake House. Firstly - we were show to our table and and iPad dropped on the table. Yes this is a menu and yes I can work and iPad. But with the hotel boasts 5 stars I expect a little more interaction. -With an experienced chef David with many an accolade, unfortunately I was underwhelmed. You quote “My food is fun, there’s always a bit of a story behind it, a bit of nostalgia and playfulness” Sadly there was no story no fun. This was primarily down the the service and the lack of engagement, talking us through the menu, championing and highlighting locality, seasonally and recommendations. The level of service we received for the price paid just wasn’t up to standard. - and finally whilst I know this is a hotel with a hot tub, there is something about having a group of people in bath robes walking through the restaurant heading to the hot tub a little strange. I wouldn’t expect this from a restaurant in a 3 star Spanish hotel, let alone a 5 star very expensive hotel/restaurant in the lakes In summary the restaurant's inexperience staff led to poor service, which significantly impacted the dining experience. The lack of knowledge and attentiveness resulted in frustration and dissatisfaction. While the food showed potential, it ultimately fell short of the expected standard considering the price paid. Overall, the combination of what seemed like inexperienced staff and underwhelming food quality makes this restaurant a less than satisfying choice. Sorry for this review but unfortunately this is a true reflection of my/out experience.

We were looking for somewhere to stop for a bite to eat on our way up to the Lakes. We came across the River Bela cafe and certainly weren't disappointed! A lovely little place with friendly hosts and delicious food. All this and dog friendly too, which is a must for us. We had the lovely home baked, hand carved ham sandwiches. On the way back home 2 days later we couldn't resist calling in again, this time for a lovely cooked breakfast - scrumptious! We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

Wow! What a fabulous experience from start to finish! We visited for my friend’s 40th and everything was perfect! Location, service and food- just beautiful! I have coeliac disease and they were so attentive and careful and went out of their way to ensure I didn’t miss out on anything. I even had different kinds of bread- believe me, this is wildly unusual for anything GF and I felt so special! All of the food was divine. I ate the lot, but totally regretted the sugar rush later on when I had a two hour drive home :-) Everything was perfect - the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had!

This was my first time visiting at a 3-star Michelin restaurant as well as eating at the Chef's table. Firstly, from now on I will definitely attempt to do the Chef's table experience at a restaurant when it is available. It is a much more entertaining affair, and more interesting and informative experience than your traditional restaurant experience. Whilst preparing each of the individual and unique courses, the chef clearly explained the inspiration/ingredients behind each course. He also shared how L'enclume are trying to be more sustainable and how Simon Rogan has his own farm nearby in Cartamel to source fresh local produce for the restaurant. The chefs table experience also allows you to speak to other groups of people present and share their experience and why they are there and their opinions. It's a great experience for foodies and highly recommended. For l'enclume and Aulis Cartamel , the food is great, organic, beautifully presented and expertly prepared. My personal favourite is the Orkney Scallops and Corra lim pudding caramelised in Birch sap. This restaurant is a true English restaurant, that is worth 3 stars
