Amazing pies and lovely staff. Highly recommended.

I was told the cheese and onion is an award winner and I can see why! Had it with red cabbage and it was lovely. They've got some good cans too, but unfortunately I wasn't able to partake. Super friendly place and great food.

A well earned lunch after a good walk, great pies, eaten in the late winter sunshine ! We had one beef, one chicken and one spinach, all with mash and gravy. Lovely staff, can only thoroughly recommend

A great place for a great pie! We hate it when places claim to have pie and give you a lid! A lid is not a pie!! This was a proper banging, punch you in the head with flavour pie x well done chaps, we shall return soon

I was already going to leave a 5 star review for the best pies and best mushy peas I can recall in recent memory. Then they chased me down the road to give me my ear buds which I'd left behind. If I could leave a 6 star review I would.

I had seen a video on TikTok with a food blogger who had visited so had to try it. As a lover of pies I convinced two fellow pie lovers to attend as well. We were not disappointed. It is safe to say it's the nicest meal I have ever had. I had the cheese pie with mash and gravy, one friend had steak and ale with mash gravy and peas and the other had chicken and ham with mash and curry sauce. All incredibly tasty!

Fresh hot pies. Really tasty pie, mash and gravy. Had to buy a couple to takeaway. Has both beef and chicken but my favourite was the latter. Even offered a vegan pie.

If this isn't the best pie in existence I will eat my hat. My son and I consider ourselves to be connoisseurs in the art of the pie. We both had steak pie and mash. I had gravy. We were blown away. Words fail.

In my opinion Ambleside best kept secret. The food was absolutely astounding the best cheese and onion pie money can buy.

Incredible pies! We visited for a spot of lunch to this absolute gem! We had a chicken pie, shared a mash and peas and had gravy also. Genuinely one of the best pies I’ve ever had. It’s only a tiny little place just before the main car park in Ambleside so easily missed but well worth a visit!

We loved the pie especially after hiking up helvellyn - a great end to a fantastic day - IMO pie and mash should go hand in hand rather than selling them separately loved the sides too of baked beans and mushy peas (which had a lovely kick to it)

Stumbled upon this place but glad we stopped as the pies were delicious. We had the chicken pie and steak pie. Filling and pastry were top and great selection of local beers. Slightly on the expensive side for what we had but the quality was good (£30 for 2 pies and 2 drinks).

I had the vegan sweet potato and kale pie and it was seriously good. The pastry was perfect throughout; no sogginess to be seen. Perfectly complimented with very tasty gravy.

Super great pies. We got two, the beef and chicken ones; with gravy and mash. All: filling, crust, gravy, and mash were perfectly prepared.

Best Pie in the North. Pie's here are to die for. Worth the trip. Had both the beef and ale pie and the cheese and onion. Recommend the gravy and mash with the steak and ale, but with the cheese and onion, I would recommend it without the gravy as the gravy masks the flavour of the cheese and onion. I would probably try it with baked beans next time. Will go here again, and recommend this place for everyone for a visit. This place is a must visit

A life changing experience. Order the mushy peas. My wife and I happened upon this pie shop before a hike on a Thursday. It was a bit busy inside but the owner was very accommodating. We ordered the cheese and onion pie with mash, gravy and mushy peas to share, latte and softdrink £22. Whoever balanced these flavours is a true master of their craft. Every element complimented the other with deep richness. The peas took me by surprise. I have never encountered such a flavour profile. I had to ask for the recipe, which the owner humbly shared. My only regret is that we're only staying near Ambleside for one day. Also order a coffee he's mastered that craft aswell 😙👌.

Visited once, not worth another visit. Overpriced pie, quality of filling not bad but not much of it compared to pastry or for the price. Good amount of mash but should be for £4 a scoop. Only accepting cash if you have exact amount and nothing is priced at a round figure. Staff pleasant but from sitting in shop to eat heard chatting and complaining about other customers & prospective customers outside. On a positive side you get "free" tap water to drink and gravy is pretty good.

Best pie you’ll ever eat - get the gravy and the mash. Also the peas are incredible and large portion too. Don’t come to Ambleside without visiting! You can also get frozen pies to take with you! Brownie, coffee and tea, plus IPA / wine to drink.

My God! Best pie ever! Seriously!We stopped here on our way through hardknot pass. Sat outside in the sun. Had pie, mushy peas and gravy. If you don't like mushy peas. You must try these! They even converted my southern Mrs! Even taking a few pies home with us.

What a find, after a day in the saddle a steak&Ale pie with mash was what I ordered, and boy o boy did it deliver! Excellent, they ain’t the cheapest but I will return as they have to be one of the best. Thanks

A very small little pie shop located near Lake District. My whole family stopped by to have lunch and we really enjoyed it. I ordered two pies, beef and ale and meat and potato. My girls loved it and wanted more! Thank you!

I had the 14 Hour Braised Beef and Ale Pie and I can safely say that this is the best pie that I've ever tasted. Tastes incredible and goes great with the mash and gravy, paired it with the Lake Brews Pale Ale and it made for an incredibly satisfying meal. I highly recommend visiting.

We had the beef and ale pie with mash and gravy, pies was fully loaded with meat and the mash was nice and creamy also the gravy was very good, coffee and refreshments also very nice. Would recommend if in the area

It was a great pie. I had the braised beef. I didn't have mashed potatoes- it's a texture thing. But all others said it was delicious and that the portion had increased, which was backed up by the owner. I feel like they should advertise their pies to take away as I wasn't aware until a customer came and did such a thing. Nice! They also have some amazing looking and sounding (via ingredients list) artisan cakes. (Tiffinesque)

Had a fantastic lunch at the Pie Co - pie, mash, peas & gravy. Food was excellent, washed down with a local IPA, & the staff member running the cafe was really friendly & helpful. Would recommend to everyone wanting some quality hearty food.

Really looking forward to this and not disappointed. Steak pie was exceptional and portions generous, we shared a portion of mash, peas and gravey and had more than enough. Meat and potato pie would benefit from more meat in my opinion but looking forward to trying the other pies later in the week. If you like pies then don't miss this place.

Great pies, £7.50 each to eat in, think you can takeaway hot or cold as well. Indoor and outdoor seating, not too busy even for a bank holiday weekend. Right next to the main car park. Well worth a visit!

Delicious, high quality ingredients made for two proper tasty pies; one chicken, one beef. The accompanying mash, gravy and peas were generous in portion and left us feeling full and refuelled for our return walk. A friendly place to have a chat and warm up with seating and toilet. Option to order online or buy from Booths.

Came looking for healthy breakfast and decent coffee. Did great granola pots and coffee where they used local milk and use local coffee from Staveley. Then came back after Helvellyn for one of their award winning pies! Cracking find

Outstanding! The pies, mash, gravy and beans were all chef-made and a quality that I would be thrilled to have in a top restaurant. The manager was extremely helpful and kind. We had the vegan options and they were made with as much passion and expertise as I imagine the rest of the menu. There is even a small very clean loo and a place to hang out wet coats. Of course we came back two days later on our next walk. Why bother risking anywhere else :)

Stumbled across this gem trying to find Ambleside centre. Such lovely lads inside and a cracking pie, the mash and gravy are a must, I swear, after a days walking it’s the best recovery food out there. Go do yourself a favour when in town. Wish we had one in London.

Had the veggie daal pie and it was pretty bland,same for the side of beans.

We just stumbled upon this little pie shop, and after eating the pies (one of each), discovered that it is the best pie shop in Britain. And now we know why. Minimalistic menus, but Excellent pies. And if you’re lucky enough to be here when the dessert of the day is Sticky Toffee Pudding - DO NOT miss it. We’ve had sticky toffee pudding around the world, and this is up there with the best.

There are pies and then there are pies. These are another level of pies. Either served simply with gravy or also with mash, the choice is yours. Top beers too. There was a slight mix up on the order which was fine as we got to try another type of pie, and this was remedied as we left by being given the original ordered pie to take away, excellent customer service and thank you 😃.

Closed both occasions we tried to visit, queried opening hours with their head office , still waiting on a reply. Great shame, but the cafe immediately next door is excellent.

Steak and Ale delicious thought it was expensive for takeaway but after eating changed my mind .

I have to admit that my partner and I almost took up residency at this amazingly good cafe the week we were in Ambleside on holiday. This is as good as it gets, whether you're having the pie and mash for lunch, or the bacon butty and souffle omelette for breakfast - the chef-made sides of baked beans and mushy peas are great too. The fact it was at the end of the road our holiday home was in made it really hard to walk past!! The lads who work there are really friendly and happy to give advice on the local area (but not the recipe for the brown sauce!). We felt quite sad saying goodbye on our last day, but cheered up on buying 8 pies to take home, knowing we can also get them via the internet!! (Can you add the brown sauce to the line up please?!!) I've never gone on so much about pastry products before - but they really are THAT good!! Highly and wholeheartedly recommended.

Popped in on Friday after a morning of paddle boarding on Windermere. I had the chees and onion pie, partner and son both had chicken and leek pies. My pie was amazing, packed full and really tasty, feedback on the chiken and leek was 'the best pie i've ever tasted'. Mash was creamy and smooth and the gravy was superb. I could not fault anything, amazing pies and we will 100% be returning.

My favourite meal in Ambleside! Braised beef pie with mash, gravy and mushy peas a little taste of Heaven! And a pint of bluebird bitter just finished it off.

To be honest, I wanted to eat from the cafe next door but the waiting time was too long. The two guys at the GNPC warmly welcomed us as the first customers of the day and made us the MOST delicious coffee of the week. My husband actually had a pie for breakfast which he was most impressed with and I had the lightest, fluffiest, tastiest egg souffle. We had a great seat in the sun, watching the Saturday morning Ambleside world go by. I am glad the wait time was too long next door as we would have missed out!

We were on the last day of our holidays and had arranged to meet our daughter for breakfast before heading home. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. Food was simple but very tasty meeting all needs - vegetarian and not vegetarian. The service was great. Nothing was too much trouble. The person serving us offered to help swat away a wasp as I freak when I see a wasp. A fabulous end to our holiday. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a quick pit stop. There is a car park right next to it, so no worries about parking.

Absolutely amazing. We sadly didn't have enough time whilst in Ambleside to dine in, however they kindly offered us the pies to go (chilled, prepared for baking off, came with instructions etc). The beef and ale one was the flavour we chose - was absolutely amazing. Beef was shredded, not in chunks, which I very much enjoyed. You could definately taste the ale in there, pastry was nice and flaky. It was the best pie we had in a very long time. Hope to see you next year!

We bought 4 takaeway pies to enjoy at home and we couldnt wait! The gentlemen serving us was very friendly and welcoming. This was definitely the best pies we had ever I couldn’t believe how good the taste was. It was well filled and the pastry was just amazing! Will definitely be ordering some more!
