Excellent meal from start to finish. I can’t recommend Frolics enough! It was our first time here, we prebooked and let Marie know that I required gluten free options. Marie made a gluten free loaf especially that day for my visit and I have to say it was honestly the most delicious tasty, crusty bread ever! We had bread with balsamic and olive oil as an appetiser on arrival which was a lovely addition. We then three courses which were all excellent. Marie also had a lemon and lime gluten free cheesecake made especially which was also very tasty. The attention to detail, lovely welcome and quality of our meal surpasses the majority of restaurants but the outstanding service and genuine desire to offer gluten free meals that are delicious is really outstanding. Thank you Marie and your team.

A beautiful and welcoming restaurant where their food is amazing and the atmosphere is perfect. Rustic surroundings and owners who welcome you as family. Food is cooked to perfection and is so tasty.

Thoroughly enjoyed a family meal at Frolics. The food was delicious, all homemade. And the service was perfect. Cannot fault this hidden gem in Southern down. Will go again!

First time of visiting and won't be the last. Fab restaurant owners lovely Portugese hosts and felt like you were in the Mediterranean the way they treated everyone. Food was fabulous with lots of choice. It's been there a long while and never had opportunity to go there before but 5 star food and hosts. A delight.

This is the third time of visiting this lovely restaurant. A lovely warm greeting. The food was excellent and did not disappoint. Bloody Mary king prawn cocktail was very nice. Steak delicious and tender and very tasty, topped off with mango panacota. Delicious quality food.

We had a fabulous meal on Sunday. The welcome we received from the Patrons was so friendly and helpful we felt immediately at home. The Sunday lunch menu was excellent with so many interesting things to choose from as well as the traditional roasts. Everything we had was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. The service was exemplary and every customer there was made to feel special by owners who really cared and did their utmost to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. It is the best overall dining experience we have had in a very long time and we can't wait to return. Thank you

We visited here for Sunday lunch and, from the moment we entered, were made to feel very welcome. The service was attentive without being intrusive and continued to emphasise the excellent hospitality which patrons received. The food was sumptuous and of the highest quality - featuring highly in the league table of Sunday lunches experienced - with perfectly cooked vegetables, succulent beef and tasty gravy. Frolics is conveniently located for access to the coastal path and a venue which provides an ideal start or finish for a very enjoyable day.

I have lived in the Vale for years, and until today never visited Frolics, although colleagues have often recommended a visit. I have missed out. Excellent food, lovely ambience and excellent value for money in addition to a lovely welcome. We will return.

We celebrated my sons 18th birthday at Frolics last night it was his choice from the moment we arrived to the uniquely warm Welsh welcome from Maria to the end the dining experience was utterly flawless Hugo and Josh just brilliant and the food is sensational easily the best in the Vale without a doubt a masterclass in how a neighbourhood restaurant should be run 👏👏👏

Great meal to celebrate my birthday with friends. Going again with 26 members of my WI at end of April. We are all looking forward to good service, nicely presented food at a very reasonable price.

What a hidden gem. It is so warm and friendly with such a variety of wonderful options. The menu is extensive, and everything sampled was top-class. This restaurant would shine in any major city but to find this beauty in sleepy Southerndown was a total surprise. We wish this family business every success.

From the warm huggy welcome to the fuzzy friendly farewell this was a delightful experience. An interesting menu with a mix of safe standards and items that you feel compelled to try. I had my first ever crispy poached egg which took crunchiness and softness to new combined heights. I loved the chorizo and feta sauce on my pork main. Kids were provided with exactly what they need - chicken nuggets and chips with a pot of tomatoes ketchup and mayonnaise. All of us got just what we needed for a celebration meal. Thankyou guys!

Exceptional. Fabulous food and excellent wine. Very reasonably priced, particularly from the set menu. Wonderful service. Our restaurant of choice and well worth a drive. After a few visits you will become part of the Frolics family and be welcomed with hugs and kisses.

Often I walk past during my hikes, and have heard a lot about the great food. We went tonight and we enjoyed the amazing ambience and welcoming atmosphere. I'm lucky to travel the UK with my work, and eat out in many wonderful restaurants ( on expenses 😆 ). Frolicks restaurant is way above most, and will definitely be back. My new restaurant 😍

We had Sunday lunch for the first time at Frolics on 11th February and it was absolutely lovely. A really top notch Sunday roast. Can't wait to come again. Great ambience, wonderful service and delicious food.

How do they do it? Hugo, Maria and John give you such a welcome, the food is fantastic. We have been going there since they opened. The standard has NEVER dropped. Consistently excellent. Sunday Lunch was so very good. The weekly lunch deal is excellent value. If you haven't tried this restaurant I strongly recommend you give it a try. Their themed dinners are really good too! If you can get a table. Their award is thoroughly deserved. Well done to you all .

Frolics is a delightful, popular, and deservedly busy restaurant near the cliffs of Southerndown on the South Wales coast. From the moment you arrive you are greeted like an old friend, Staff are friendly and professional, and the food, based on fresh local ingredients, is varied and excellent, Tables are laid out with care so not to crowd customers and the white linen tablecloths and napkins are a nice touch. We've been going to Frolics for many years, but this is our first time with the current owners. I'm sure it won't be our last. Recommended. Be sure to book.

A very enjoyable meal enjoyed by our party of 11 for a birthday celebration. The welcome from each of the staff was very warm and professional. The service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The food was of high quality at a reasonable price. Our thanks for an enjoyable time.

Today was the third time we have been to Frolics and we have been very satisfied on each visit. The menu is very tempting and the food is really delicious. The service is exemplary and they make you feel very welcome. I will recommend it to all my friends and we will definitely return.

Frolic’s has quickly established itself as the “ go to” eatery in the Vale of Glamorgan and is richly deserving of the excellent reputation it has built up for itself. We have eaten there around a dozen times now and have never been disappointed. The welcome and service is of the highest order, and the quality of the fare is first class. A place to go when you fancy spoiling yourself and being spoilt!

I can see why this restaurant is so highly rated. Service is incredibly friendly and you are treated like friends. Food was fresh, great presentation and great flavours. Stand out for me was the pork belly but all was great. Lunchtime deal means the food is exceptional value at 18.95 for 3 courses. The restaurant was busy which for 230 on a Tuesday shows how popular it justifiably is. Probably the nicest coffee I’ve had in a restaurant too.

Just amazing, that’s all I need to say ! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were honestly blown away but the quality of the food and also the value. Midweek special was an absolute winner.

Wow! What an amazing experience!! We have so many great places to eat locally that it had taken us a while to get out to Frolics. But my wife’s birthday provided a perfect opportunity and we were not disappointed! We received a fabulous welcome from wonderful staff and nothing was too much trouble. The menu was outstanding and the food was marvellous and beautifully presented. We had scallops and the beetroot salad to start, followed by fillet steak and the pork loin. Delicious. The desserts were also amazing as was the Malbec we chose to accompany the meal. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful restaurant

I have just read former reviews and can only reiterate all the praise showered upon this restaurant. We were welcomed warmly into a busy, atmospheric, restaurant by it's co-owner. After helping us choose our drinks and wine and discussing our choice from a highly interesting selection of dishes John? took great care in helping to satisfy my sister-in-law's dietary requirements ( celiac). The food is 'to die for' and the service perfect. Bravo!!

We took our grandson here for a birthday treat, the second year running, as he was so thrilled the first year. The food is very good. My duck was very much like a traditional French ‘menu du jour’ dish, and my husband enjoyed his sea bream, and our grandson his Glamorgan sausages.The waitress was very positive and helpful about food intolerances and we shall certainly return because of this welcome approach. The only downside was that a group of other diners were very noisy, setting our grandson a poor example of how to behave in a restaurant.

Frolics doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s lovely once you’re through the door. We were sat downstairs, which had a lovely atmosphere. Service was 10/10. The way the waiter acted made us feel special - not something you get very often these days. Food was amazing. We had deep fried goats cheese and a walnut salad to start and then both had the monkfish wrapped in palms ham. Wow! For top service and amazing food, the bill was surprisingly palatable. I highly recommend this place!

Thought we were onto something good when we couldn’t get in at our first attempt. Second attempt we were successful though a little sceptical when we were told we’d have to be in the cellar. However when we arrived we were greeted like long lost friends and the cellar was a lovely place; nice and quiet with a nice ambiance and well decorated with pleasant lighting. The food was excellent with a good menu and plenty of choice. When we left, the proprietor was so lovely it felt like we weee leaving family, she was so lovely. Would love to go back but not sure how often we’ll get to revisit that part of Wales

What an amazing place! The food was outstanding as was the welcome! We visited as strangers and felt we left as friends. My friend and I enjoyed lunch before going horse riding locally. I cannot recommend enough and I will be returning with my family very soon! I think this was my favourite 3 course meal ever and I eat out a lot!

Probably the nicest meal of the year so far. Both starters (scallops) and mains (one fillet steak one monkfish) were cooked to perfection. Very friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere.

Visited for a Family Birthday. Our first visit here for a few years but won’t be our last! Fantastic food, fair prices and excellent, attentive service at this fabulous family owned restaurant. Not a huge menu which is a good thing in my opinion but something for everyone. A lovely relaxing ambience whatever the occasion. Beautifully cooked fresh food at its best! All 3 courses were very good. Can’t wait to visit again!
