My friends and I stopped here on our way back from the Aviation Museum at St Athan for some lunch and i am do glad we did. We all had starters and mains and they were to die for. Traditionally home cooked food with so much flavour. Hats off to the chef. It was so nice to sit in an oldy worldy pub with so much character. The young lady who served us, both drinks and food, was really polite and friendly and we all felt so relaxed in the wonderful atmosphere. Thank you so much for a lovely lovely experience. 🫶

Medium-sized Welsh Village pub. Internally it has the feel of a place that was modernised quite a long time ago, so has a bit of a 60s/70s vibe about the place - and I do mean that in a positive way. The staff here were particularly welcoming and friendly. The menu is fairly straightforward, but the food was all very well prepared. We opted for what turned out to be a very nice Chicken Curry. On the bar were two ales, both from Wye Valley - slightly disappointing there was nothing from Wales although, it has to be said, Wye Valley HPA is a very nice beer, and it's from only just on the other side of the border! Overall a very positive experience, dining here.

We are so lucky to have this lovely pub close to home, I booked a table for 8 of us, (1 couldn't make it) sadly, to celebrate a late 30th b'day. Great atmosphere, very attentive and they took the time to explain the various choices available for gluten free dishes. I had a started and main, we were spoilt for choices for the main courses, the king prawns/ calamari were delicious and spicy and my main was the French chicken dish, from the plate been hot, hot to the presentation and the taste was divine. Even my Irish coffee was great, good selection of wines, I enjoy my Pinot Blush lovely and cold as it should be. The place was busy so we waited a little bit but was worth it as we had such an amazing time and enjoyed the food. Well done to all the members of the team at the Star Inn, we got special attention from the chef himself, I will be definitely be visiting more often to try some of the other dishes. Highly recommended!!!!

It was delicious….. absolute ‘Daza’. Service was excellent. We had Indy our black lab with us a he had 2 beef & pork sausages…… Indy’s review…. Excellent bring ‘em on. We will be back soon!

We visited late (4:30pm) and the quality was as good as we would expect at 12pm Starters were pate, big portion, beautiful homemade pate and a plentiful chutney with toast. My partner had the scotch egg which was delightful. Onto the mains, I had beef, my partner had pork. Very big portions. Tasty, gravy superb and the roasties delicious! Cauliflower cheese very tasty. It's been over 10 years since I was landlady of this lovely pub in what has to be the friendliest village in Wales. I haven't been back to Wick in some time and it's lovely to see my old pub is in such capable hands. Popped in for Sunday lunch with my husband and honestly one of the nicest Sunday roasts I've had anywhere, ever. Delicious home made gravy, thick slices of roast beef, and amazing roasties (roasties are always my favourite part of a Sunday lunch and are usually the bit that determines if we go back!) We also had a side of cauliflower cheese and this was proper cauliflower cheese. Many places offer little more than a white sauce with no flavour, make no mistake you could really taste the cheese, this is the real deal. Apart from all tasting great, the food was beautifully presented, the service was good and we will definitely be returning.

Excellent food (we had whitebait, Rib Eye steak and a pulled rib of beef BBQ burger. Superb! ). Dog had dog treats, he seemed happy. Superb beer as always and I just had to have the Baileys bread and butter pudding for dessert. Naturally, custard was the chosen option. That was lovely as well. Our exploring of Vale pub lunches continues! On a gloomy, almost wintery, Autumnal Saturday, me and him decided to get in the car and just head down the Vale. We remembered a place we’d visited a while ago and had a lovely Sunday lunch. We arrived to a quietist car park, for a weekend, and were ready for a comforting lunch to take away the greyish hues overhead. The log fire wasn’t on, but nevertheless the ambience was quiet and warm. Once seated with a pot of tea and a pint, we perused the menu - sandwiches and jackets don’t feature on their menu but what was is reasonably priced. I opted for Chorizo and kale soup, which was recommended and asked for a haddock goujons to accompany the soup to make it a main meal. Mr M opted for faggots and peas (of which he is becoming quite the connoisseur of around the Vale). We didn’t wait long before piping hot food filled our table for two. My soup, which was well seasoned, was delicious served with beautiful, warm ciabatta. The goujons were the highlight- moist, meaty and a lovely light batter sitting on a bed of the most delicious homemade tartare sauce! Absolutely gorgeous! His faggots get a from him. Homemade and ample sized with crushed mash, mushy peas and delicious onion gravy. It did the trick - we left full and smiling. Please give this Vale pub a try next time your out and about. When the fire is lit it’s definitely going to a revisit for Thursday’s Steak night. Thanks very much - we will be back!

We were staying by Marcross at a great cottage, were invited to meet friends at The Star Inn in Wick for a drink on a very wet and windy evening. We ended up having a great meal and tons of fun. I had the best lamb steak of my life and some Welsh Pride Ale complimented it. My wife had a lamb stew that she said was to die for; she fell in love with the local Gwynn Drraig Scrumpy, which is a local Welsh Cider. You can’t go wrong in stopping and having a meal here; it was one of the best of our three week trip. The servers and Bar Staff were so friendly and accommodating. We ended up coming back for supper for the next two days and those were as good if not better than the first meal. Met lots of friendly locals and some other visitors and had a great time. Getting waited on at the table was something we hadn’t really experienced in most other establishments in England and North Wales and really enjoyed that. It’s service at the bar on the pub side, which is where I enjoyed watching rugby. You can’t go wrong taking a trip to The Star Inn. Please say hello to Emily and the rest of the staff from the Canadians.

Our friends faggots and peas and steak and ale pie looked beautiful and we will definitely be trying these ourselves soon. Fabulous bed and breakfast Inn. A quite location just a short drive from Cowbridge but within easy reach of Cardiff and many other South Wales attractions. Rooms have all you could ask for, including a large, extremely comfortable bed, tea, and coffee making facilities ( replenished every day) wall mounted TV etc. The breakfasts are a must, A full Engish all with locally sourced produce. Lunch and Evening meals are available with a varied menu. All the staff are extremely helpful and polite. Beryl & Michael are the hosts in this lovely establishment and are more than happy to assist you with any information you may need. My wife and I have stayed at the Victoria several times now and always go back when we visit South Wales. Highly recommend 👌

We called in this morning for brunch. The atmosphere was a warm and cosy antidote to the fresh autumn morning outside. We were promptly greeted and shown to our table by Kym, who looked after us impeccably throughout. The menu was first rate. Sarah had the smoked salmon: it was delicious. I had the full breakfast: it was simply sensational. Matthew put together a fanatic brunch using the finest ingredients. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Stayed here once and had food here twice. Food is excellent. The chef truly knows his stuff. Atmosphere is lovely. There’s a slight room for improvement with customer service, and maybe consider keeping bins in a different area as the garden has tendencies to smell of raw fish. Still going to give five stars.
