Stayed here once and had food here twice. Food is excellent. The chef truly knows his stuff. Atmosphere is lovely. There’s a slight room for improvement with customer service, and maybe consider keeping bins in a different area as the garden has tendencies to smell of raw fish. Still going to give five stars.

Accomodation to stay left a lot to be desired, bathroom small and dirty, uncomfortable bed. There was no room for our dog even though we paid £10 a night extra for him. Stairs and hallway were dark and dingy. Dirty and worn carpets.

After deciding we wanted to get married at St Cadoc’s church across the road, we took a chance and walked into the Fox and Hounds and asked if they would consider hosting a wedding party! From the moment we walked in, Emily and Que were amazing. Throughout all the planning, nothing was too much - they accommodated all the things we wanted to have on our day. Emily went above and beyond in helping us, always happy to chat and she was so helpful on the day. By the time we got back from the rehearsal, she had already done so much of the setting up! Being able to stay on site and get ready there was brilliant, and made life so easy. We ate there a few times whilst planning the day and the food was always amazing - but nothing prepared us for how incredible the food would be on the day! Que designed an exceptional menu, from canapés, a three course wedding breakfast and an evening buffet. So many of our guests said it was not only the best wedding food they had ever had, but some of the best restaurant food they had ever had! We had a few guests with dietary requirements, and Que was able to adapt recipes for them with no problems at all. We had a few children at the wedding, and they were catered for too with lovely child appropriate food! The service was amazing from the whole team, everyone commented on how lovely all the staff were. We just wanted to give the biggest thank you to the team but particularly Emily and Que. You gave our guests a wonderful day, and you gave us the best day of our lives. Thank you so much! We will definitely be returning, and if you have an occasion to celebrate, we could not recommend them more. Amy and Vincent x

Ok, so this place is no fancy resort. It is a TINY little town, and the hotel is run by what seems like teenagers. It is very charming in a country, off the beaten path, kinda way. It is clean, and it works. Breakfast was ok, and the staff seem friendly, though somewhat anxious. There is not a lot of walking to be done here, but there is a medieval church we rebound paintings

Lovely little village, the inn is very pleasant, friendly welcoming staff. Rooms comfortable, albeit roasting but not the Inn’s fault. Shame the restaurant isn’t open Monday and Tuesday but totally appreciate the need for staff to have days off. Did manage to eat here though and it was very good. Reasonably priced, well presented and very tasty. Great selection of wines. Dog friendly as well which is nice to see, especially the other patrons making the most of the garden area with their dogs. Breakfast for me was a bit of a let down, I appreciate it is continental serving.

Drove up to find the Fox and Hounds is for sale at about £1/2 million. No other diners there when we arrived but 2 others arrived a short time later. Ate duck, which was extremely tender. Dessert on the menu which was ordered turned out not to be available as the chef only returned from holiday recently!!!! So we paid for main course and left. Won’t be returning.

booked here purely due to it being dog friendly. WOW! What a surprise! The food here is incredible . All hand made by Chef Hugh (who learnt his craft at The Walnut Tree in Abergavenny when it was still a michelin starred restaurant ) and you can taste the love in his labours. Even if you don't stay (and why wouldn't you, the staff can't do enough for you?) dine here. You will again I'm sure

I visited The Fox and Hounds in Llancarfan to celebrate Mothers Day with some members of my family. Let me say that the quality and taste of the food was very high. I can not prise the flavour of my fish course enough. Unfortunately, the quantity of vegetables, which was meant to be shared amongst four adults, left a lot to be desired. When I saw the small dishes laid on the table, I initially thought they were individual portions. Do not expect your hunger to be satisfied here. Another negative was the fact that two very noisy dogs kept barking loudly throughout our visit, and the staff did not do anything about it. On the contrary, they were quite amused by them. All-in-all, the negative experiences spoilt the whole visit for me and family. For the prices charged, I expect a far higher standard. My wife and I meet a group of friends for a meal several times a month, and we are always on the lookout for new places to visit. Before visiting The Fox and Hounds on this occasion, we were looking forward to add another restaurant to our monthly list. The Fox and Hounds will definitely not be featuring in our meetings now or at any time in future.

Firsty I have to say that I found the roast dinner tasty. This however is the only positive thing I have to say. I was there with family on mother's day and within my family is a growing 16 year old son . We ordered 4 roast dinners and asked for additional roast potatoes (nothing unusual about that) but we were initially told that that wouldn't be possible as they had only prepped sufficient for the number of covers booked. The question remains therefore why offer an additional side on the menu at £5 but hey ho . As it turned out they were indeed able to find 3 extra potatoes, quarter them and serve as a side dish which we were thankful for. They also served this dish of vegetables( picture below) which was meant to serve 4 people! FOUR PEOPLE! when I asked for additional it has to be said I clearly annoyed the waitress as her demeanour towards us changed swiftly thereafter. We were however provided with another side dish of vegetables. All throughout this the table next to us had brought a dog in with them who was incessantly barking throughout the meal. I have a child with sensory processing autism and this loud unpleasant environment really unsettled her. I have to be honest when paying £32 a head for a meal I certainly do not expect to have a snappy dog on the next table. To add insult to injury when leaving the restaurant we were being clearly spoken about by the two kitchen staff who were pointing at us when we left the place. I mean how very dare we ask to have additional vegetables with a Sunday roast dinner! I certainly won't be returning! They could do with listening to the recent reviews of them being poor value for money and ask that their staff bear in mind that the customer experience is what they rely on! This and word of mouth!

We have just come back from a weekend staying at The Fox and Hounds. The location is just breathtaking and the Church is very old and beautiful. The rooms were comfortable and clean and warm. The food was just spectacular, Matthew and Kim are the new management team along with Chester their dog and nothing is too much trouble. Matthew is a very good chef and his food especially his Chateaubriand is absolutely delicious . We would definitely recommend it and are planning rebook in the summer.

Beautiful location in a pretty village in the vale of Glamorgan. Right off the beaten track, in a tranquil village in the shadow of an historic church, nestled alongside a babbling brook is the Fox and Hounds. A great welcome from staff; clean room and bathroom; adjustable heating; welcome tray. The downstairs bar is bright and welcoming, whilst retaining the charm and quirkiness of an old, traditional building. The food here during our stay has been excellent. Freshly cooked, well presented and delicious. A fabulous stay in very rural surroundings, yet only half an hour outside of Cardiff city. A real break away from it all. We’ll be back! Another bonus is that this place is dog friendly!

We last ate at The Fox and Hounds about 18 months before this visit, when it was average - nothing to complain about, but nothing special either. This time we knew that the chef and management team had changed, and had heard good things, so were very much looking forward to our meal. We were not disappointed - the welcome was friendly and genuine, the atmosphere relaxed and the food excellent. A short menu, but a good choice of options, including vegetarian (not sure about vegan) plus a few Specials. We had three courses: starters we chose were scallops in a lobster bisque and arancini with an aioli sauce - both really good. Mains were 2 steaks, both cooked exactly as required, a wild mushroom ragu, and a fillet steak pie (one of that night's specials), with sides of broccoli. All delicious and good portions. We weren't too full for desserts, which was good as they too were lovely. All in all a real pleasure to eat at this lovely old pub. The food, wine, service and welcome all deserve 5 stars, the only aspect that isn't quite up to the same level is the decor, which currently isn't as welcoming and cosy as I'd like. However it seems that this new team have exciting improvements planned so I'll look forward to going back at regular intervals to see how they're getting on (and try some other dishes, of course!).

What a fabulous find!!! We booked here because it was dog friendly and convenient for Barry Island and Trelai park run. It is a lovely old pub full of charm. I was so grateful when we arrived late afternoon in the pouring rain to find that they had gluten free options on the menu.. including fish & chips!!! The best bit about this stay was the really wonderful service… breakfast was served until 10am but we wanted to do the park run at 9 and it was a 23 minute drive so we were going to get back by the skin of our teeth. But when we spoke to the lovely lady that morning she was so chilled.. she said we would be fine and sure enough when we got back just after 10 our breakfasts were cooked for us without any fuss! They were just kind! How is that for being amazing! We were chuffed! And as check out was 11am there was time for a shower as well 🤣 Bonus!

This is a typical village pub in a quiet village next to a small river. It is many years since I last visited and it has undergone at least one change in ownership. The bar and dining rooms are quite bare and not particularly welcoming. However the staff are friendly. You can sit inside or out but because of the valley you will not see much sun. There is a good selection of food which is well cooked and enjoyable at reasonable prices. We paid £63 for 3 at dinner including drinks but not service. It is a pleasant place for a drive into the country and dinner.

This is a delightful place to stay. Set deep in the Vale of Glamorgan, in a beautiful village, teeming with history, surrounded by wonderful countryside, peaceful and relaxing, and yet up-to-date with all modern conveniences. Near to Cardiff, Cardiff Airport, gorgeous Penarth, Dyffryn Gardens (National Trust), Welsh National Folk Museum and of course Barry Island, it makes an ideal base, and sanctuary to retreat to after a hard day's sight-seeing. Adjacent Llancarfan church is a 'must see' for anyone interested in history, with it's spectacular medieval wall paintings. The staff are helpful and friendly. My room (Room 4) was huge and contained a comfortable setee plus spacious bathroom and comfortable double bed. It was so quiet at night. the bar oozes character, and outside there is plenty of stylish, contemporary seating, including a fantastic veranda. My only gripe was that the evening meal was poor and tasteless. It had obviously been pre-cooked and re-heated. Also the 'breakfast included' was of the continental variety. No cooked breakfast available unfortunately. A disappointment. Otherwise, brilliant!

We’ve visited this beautiful country pub on many occasions and have always had good service and food. On the spur of the moment we decided to go there for a. Sunday lunch and were very disappointed. The welcome wasn’t as warm as we’d experienced in the past, We were told that they were not doing Sunday lunch because the usual Chef was away, We decided to go ahead as we were there, it wasn’t busy so we expected good service. My wife ordered off the specials board but was told that they would need to check with the chef, they came back and said that it was no longer available. We both ordered off the main menu, the food arrived and it was OK. No one checked to see if everything was OK. It took some time for our plates to be removed. We were then asked if we wanted deserts we we ordered coffee and treacle pudding. They said that they were unsure if there was any treacle pudding left and would need to check, no one came back and we assumed that it wasn’t available The coffee turned up, after half an hour of waiting to see if someone would ask us if we wanted the bill we decided to go and pay at the bar. The waitress appeared and said that the treacle pudding was on its way, we asked for the bill at the same time because we had been there for a good while waiting for service. We had the pudding and the bill which was almost £80 for the 2 of us and could see that a service charge had been added. Our views are not meant to criticise but to be constructive. - someone needs to be there to lead, have a bit of oomph about them and make guests feel welcome - there’s no point having specials on the board if they’re not available, it takes a second to rub out chalk on the board - staff should know what isn’t available without constantly checking with the chef - customers should have confirmation if an item they’ve ordered is or isn’t available - it would be nice if customers were asked now and again if everything is ok with the meal - service should be top notch if there’s a service charge, in this case it should have been a tip based on service which would incentivise the staff. We won’t be returning soon but would gladly do so if the food and service improves.

Unbelievably poor. Ok where the hell do I start here, let's be positive the young staff where lovely and nice. Now the food... Oh my god presentation non existent, steak served on a brown plate with a onion ring on top, resembled a two day old cow pat with the golden liquid on show. Steak was tough and frankly garbage. My wife's lasagne dear god above probably the most rankest looking pile of cat puke you could imagine, don't worry photos to prove.🍻 She left it after a few tastes. The cutlery looked like something my great grandmother had in her bottom draw, stained brown and should have been used as a horror movie prop. Cucina varia del territorio ma rivisitata. Tempi di attesa un po’ lunghi tra una portata e l’altra. Abbiamo mangiato sia pesce che dell’ottima carne a prezzo estremamente ragionevole

Lovely Sunday lunch served in pleasant surroundings by attentive and polite staff. Couldn’t fault it - my father & I both had the beef which was cooked to perfection, whilst our respective wive’s had the bass which they thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts were all very tasty, the Malteser Loaf being my favourite, but do try their unique ‘Fox’ flavour ice cream.

We were staying in a Cottage nearby for a wedding, Sunday "recovery" was a family walk and then Sunday Lunch at the Fox and Hounds - nice pub in a lovely village -really enjoyed the meal, great service, and very good food - veg /roastie portions not huge but ample (we didn't ask for more, I'm sure it would have been forthcoming if we had). Not particularly cheap but quality very good so worth it. I'd definitely go again.

We called in this morning for brunch. The atmosphere was a warm and cosy antidote to the fresh autumn morning outside. We were promptly greeted and shown to our table by Kym, who looked after us impeccably throughout. The menu was first rate. Sarah had the smoked salmon: it was delicious. I had the full breakfast: it was simply sensational. Matthew put together a fanatic brunch using the finest ingredients. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Fabulous bed and breakfast Inn. A quite location just a short drive from Cowbridge but within easy reach of Cardiff and many other South Wales attractions. Rooms have all you could ask for, including a large, extremely comfortable bed, tea, and coffee making facilities ( replenished every day) wall mounted TV etc. The breakfasts are a must, A full Engish all with locally sourced produce. Lunch and Evening meals are available with a varied menu. All the staff are extremely helpful and polite. Beryl & Michael are the hosts in this lovely establishment and are more than happy to assist you with any information you may need. My wife and I have stayed at the Victoria several times now and always go back when we visit South Wales. Highly recommend 👌
