No quisiera comer aquí. Ni siquiera tienen hielo para las bebidas. Cuando anteriormente pertenecían tenía una gran reputación y sirve productos frescos y de temporada, bien comida casera de alto nivel que es realmente decepcionante que esto es lo que ha sido sustituido por.

We took my elderly mother and aunt there for meal on the bank holiday Sunday. They both had mobility issues and having made it up the stairs we we placed at a small table in the corner, despite lot of other tables being available (they and still available when we left). The menu handed to us was a sheet of plain A4 paper with a hand written list of "traditional Sunday Dinner" options. Not a impressive start. We never eat a traditional roast dinner at a restaurant since my husband makes such an amazing roast. This was not the menu we have seen on the website. There was a choice of 3 starters, 3 roast meats and 3 desserts. The brie (starter) arrived luke warm covered in orange Paxo style breadcrumbs, not nice. When we asked what type of pate it was the waitress was unsure - answering "liver". she had not been shopping with the chef that morning so she was not sure. I asked if the desserts were homemade, at first the reply was yes and as we started to order our meals, she then added that the brownies were actually bought in, as was the cheesecake, and ice cream, so it appeared that in reality only the Apple Flan "might" have been homemade. The mains received a mix review from our party, my - chicken dinner- was quite tasteless, the carrots we all agreed were probably tinned since they were soggy and tasted of noting but water, a point we did make to the waitress, but to no avail. The sprouts were overcooked and so was the broccoli. My husband and I had a small bottle of sparkling water each and when we asked for another were told they had run out. All in all a disaster. I dont live locally but my mother and aunt do and have already warned people about our experience.

We visited chaplins many times when it was on the High st, so we were looking forward to our meal on Saturday with them now at the gallery. However it wasn't to be. Our first choices on the menu were unavailable and when my Brie starter arrived it was congealed and cold instead of being warm. My main meal which was the sea bass was also cold - even the jacket potato! My sons main was also cold and he said the steak had a bitter taste to it.Needless to say we didn't leave a tip and we won't be returning.

We were big fans of the previous gallery so didn't really have high expectations. However, the food we ate was excellent. The steaks seemed particularly good value. The only thing letting it down was a limited naff wine list that looked like something from an Italian restaurant in 1992. All of agreed with that and paid for it the next day. If they get in a proper wine merchant in they could probably make this the must go to place in barry. The mango chicken parcels and pigeon were delicious.

First appearances are often very misleading and this restaurant certainly falls into this category. Table and chairs on the pavement (!!!) downstairs reception looks like a scene from a Western movie but then you are taken upstairs to the restaurant by a friendly Staff. No comparison with what's gone before, 2 menus (Lunchtime and A lacarte) gives you plenty of choice and we opted for the lunch-time which offered 3 courses for £13.50 and 2 courses for £9.85.I had Crayfish Salad which was ameal in itself. (1 complaint - the glass was so tall I had difficulty reaching the bottom) followed by Liver with a thick marsala sauce (delicious). Again 1 complaint - I would like to see a carrot ( or some colour) on the plate rather than a dull brown. The food is excellent, service was good ambience is second to none and the drinks very reasonably priced. I wish the new owner every success and we shall certainly visit again. Considering we went at lunchtime, the place was full so we recommend booking.

The restaurant has undergone a recent change of ownership but experience at this restaurant turned out to be as wonderful as ever. We went for Sunday lunch - 8 of us. The waiting staff were thoroughly attentive from start to finish, yet not at all overbearing, like you get in some places. But nothing was too much trouble and they did it all with a smile. The food was magnificent. We all had starters - which were thoroughly tasty and generous too. There were just a few on the menu - maybe 5 or 6 - but the choices were varied with something for everyone. I could have ordered them all!The roast dinners were simply gorgeous. Generous carvings of meat and way more than enough veg to go around. Plus we had lashings of extra gravy. One grumble: I did only have two roasties, when everyone else appeared to have three...but I'm a forgiving man. We all enjoyed a fabulous meal and all said we can't wait to return to sample the weekday menu. Bring on the gloriousness!

My partner and I visited The Gallery on a Saturday night in early March. It's the first time we've visited the restaurant, which has recently been re-opened under new management and with new kitchen and service staff. Firstly, the food, which in the main was stunning! We ate at the end of the evening (back to that in a minute), but everything was fresh, plentiful and delicious. I had the soup followed by an amazing sea bass in saffron sauce. My partner had the smoked chicken and mango parcels - which he ordered with some scepticism, but would have licked the plate if he could! - followed by an amazing Vic Hopkins steak. The desserts were the only slight downside. The cheeseboard wasn't great and my partner had the brownie, which he thought was "OK". The service is clearly still bedding in. Downstairs the staff running the bar are both efficient and friendly. However, the staff upstairs in the restaurant, whilst being welcoming, showed really obvious signs of a lack of experience. Our booking had been overlooked (hence the wait to end of service). Whilst this was immediately compensated with drinks and nibbles, my partner - who had organised the evening out (minus the kids) as a special treat - was really disappointed. Later, we ordered wine, which was brought to the table and left unopened! This all sounds picky, but for the prices being charged - the evening came to over £80 for the two of us - and the quality of the food, I would expect better service. We will go back to The Gallery in a couple of months to give it another go. The food is really that good!

The slow cooked pork belly was tough and not very interesting. The sea bass was small and rather dry. The lamb was also rather chewy the veg with this was soft. Other veg was hidden in the dish. Our fourth visit to the Gallery tonight. We have previously enjoyed fantastic food here, but our meal tonight was extremely disappointing, and not up to the usual standard. Tonight's menu was the Christmas menu, priced at £27.50 for 2 courses, or £32 for 3 courses. Not cheap, but usually well worth the price.A selection of home made bread rolls and smoked butter was brought out for us to enjoy while we selected our meals, and these were delicious. For starters we opted for the Mussels cooked in "Hat Trick" beer, pancetta and crispy kale and pan seared scallops, chicken wings, caper and pomegranate and curried celeriac purée. Sounded great but didn't live up to expectation. The mixture of flavours with the scallops just didn't work for me at all. Our choice of main courses were: Braised belly pork, pig cheek, sauerkraut, colcannon mash & cider sauce and slow cooked beef, pont neuf potato, bourgignon sauce and langoustine hollandaise. The pork was dry, but tasty. The beef was extremely tender but unfortunately the first mouthful I took was just fat! We did give feedback to the waiter who spoke to the chef. The feedback from the kitchen was " Unfortunately the end cut can be fatty". Guess I was the unlucky diner to get the end cut then!!Desserts were delicious: home made plum pudding, brandy foam, crème anglaise & burnt butter ice cream and blood orange and clementine posset with cranberry compote and shortbread. On previous visits to the Gallery we have been blown away by the food. The staff tonight did ask if we enjoyed the meal and we gave our honest feedback - both good and bad, but got the feeling that they were not really that interested as to whether or not we had enjoyed our meal, or whether our experience would put us off returning. I hope that this was just a blip, but I think we will wait a while before going back.

The food and cocktails at The Gallery never fail to please - delicious, creative, beautifully presented, locally and sustainably sourced. My family and friends had another excellent meal at The Gallery last night to celebrate a few birthdays. Between us, we had most of the menu - a well-balanced selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes to please everyone. For starters - monkfish, smoked haddock, sweetbreads, Perl Las ravioli, and game terrine featured, while for mains, we tried the chicken, lamb, belly pork and gurnard - all with unusual and interesting vegetable and sauce accompaniments. And to finish.....chocolate five ways and a mocha soufflé with a creamy malt custard - just delicious. At the bar, I can recommend the gin bramble and a bottle of Three Sheep sauvignon blanc from New Zealand - crisp and grapefruity. A wonderful evening of food and drink - thanks chefs and friendly, efficient restaurant staff.

This restaurant is so different from the usual restaurants you get in Barry - which is after all a Seaside/Gavin and Stacey type of town. The Gallery offers the very best of haut cuisine with a creative difference. The foods are locally resourced, with many unusual ingredients culled from hedgerows and meadows to create an intriguing and fascinating menu. The end result is delicious. The ambience is magical, the service excellent and the prices extremely reasonable The only drawback is that it's so difficult to get a table. Book early. Book often! You won't regret it.

Booked a table for 8 for an 80th birthday celebration. This was booked midweek for Saturday evening and we were told we had to be seated by 6pm and out by 8.30 as they were fully booked. This was a shame and we didn't want to be rushed as family members were coming from far away but in fact when we finished eating we were told we could stay as long as we liked! We also had to pre-order all our menu choices and they managed to get one wrong..mine!! I had ordered the salmon main course and they brought me seared steak & suet pudding...and told me that's what I had ordered!! (I KNOW what I ordered!) I accepted it rather than make a fuss in front of everyone and in fact it was delicious although a fairer description of the dish would be 'suet pudding with steak garnish'...there were 2 slices of steak about 1 x 2 inches and about a quarter of an inch thick...seriously! There was maybe 1 ounce of steak on the plate!! They did offer to take it back and bring me salmon but I would have to wait a while and I didn't want to be eating my main when everyone else was ready for dessert! That said, we all tried each other's meals and all were really delicious, modern, inventive dishes, beautifully cooked and well presented. The complimentary amuse bouche to start was a lovely touch. Excellent value for the quality of food. I would certainly give 5 stars for the food!I'm sad to hear the restaurant is being sold as I would like go back again and I would definitely recommend to others.

Here's hoping that the current owners can leave behind the ethos they have created here, to be continued by someone new at the helm. Thank you for the many meals we have enjoyed with you, we hope this is not the end of an era but understand that sometimes it's right to move on. Best wishes.

We were early on a Saturday lunchtime. The place was quiet but the waiter and waitress were very welcoming. Amuse bouche was very tasty cauliflower veloute. All 3 courses were excellent and tremendous value for money. One diner wanted more seasoning but there wasn't any on the table. The waitress was very relaxed and informative about the restaurant. I would highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back. Would love to try the steak night or Sunday lunch.

I have visited The Gallery a few times for food or sometimes just drinks and have always had a lovely experience. The food is beautifully cooked and prepared to an extremely high standard. The waiting staff are always very friendly and attentive. The menu changes each month and has an option to suit even the fussiest of taste buds. This really is a great place to be and I'm very proud it's in my hometown of Barry!

What a pleasant surprise!. A great, well thought out menu, in a relaxed restaurant, reasonably priced and in Barry. All cooked by a kitchen brigade whom obviously care about what leaves their kitchen.Plus as a Wxm lad it was a pure joy to find the juice of the gods (Wrexham Lager) on tap. Food was delivered by a helpful waiter who couldn't do enough, without being irritating, whilst being friendly and polite.Keep it up and don't do as some do and loose the plot. Hope to return soon.

A little while ago I had a below average Sunday lunch experience at the Gallery and shared it here. We returned last Sunday and we were delighted to experience this fantastic restaurant at its best. Service, quality of food and value for money were outstanding. The flavours were unique and you could have been in any of top restaurants in the world! Well done guys and thank you for staying in Barry. We are very lucky to have you!

Had 3 course lunch there with friends, we all had different dishes. An amuse bouche arrived unexpectedly to start us off, it was utterly sublime and my instinct was to ask for more, more, more, it was really wonderful. We all enjoyed our starters and mains, beautifully presented and each element complemented each other. Waiter was able to provide a slight amendment for one person who didn't want a particular veg, done easily and without fussing. The desserts were out of this world, the coffee one was spectacularly attractive, as good as any michelin place. I had the cheese course which was very good. My roast lamb was slightly too salty for my preference, but this was ok as it was just slight, and the dish itself was really good. The view of the yard/ alleyway through the open side door on my way to the loo was not great, but other than that, the indoors was very nicely presented.Probably the nicest low calorie diet tonic water I have ever had, a tiny detail but shows how well they pay attention to the details. This is a very high level of cooking and deserves a Michelin recommendation

Went with 2 other couples and the service was attentive, whilst not overbearing, the food was of a high standard, particularly the lamb and duck dishes, although I understand the menu changes on a monthly basis. Only had the house red and white wine but both was of a reasonable taste for the price. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

Thoroughly enjoyed what was a great dining experience. The service was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious. I went for the 3 course set menu and was not disappointed. The main course pan roast duck, sesame duck spring roll, pak choi, damson sauce was so tasty and had so many amazing flavours. It represents excellent value in a classy relaxed atmosphere. Well done to all the staff 2/9/16 your service was outstanding. Full compliments to the chef.

We've visited The Gallery a few times, and we've enjoyed each of our visits. The menu frequently changes which is brilliant. I can highly recommend the Braised Pigs Cheek, Pan Roast Duck and Peach melba soufflé from the most recent menu. The bar downstairs is great for a pre or post-dinner cocktail too. The staff are friendly and attentive, the decor and the atmosphere is great. My only slightly negative comment would be the red wine list. The only options are 2 x Pinot Noirs, a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Bordeaux. Ok, they are all reasonably priced, but the list could do with more variety and also more price options (for times when you are celebrating and fancy splashing out on a special bottle of wine). I'd like to see more Southern French wines, like Cotes Du Rhone Villages, Crozes Hermitage, Gigondas, Chateauneuf Du Pape and Languedoc wines. As the menu changes frequently, it might be nice to have specially selected wines to go with specific courses too - just an idea.

Visited for lunch with a friend, having seen TripAdvisor review a week before. We arrived late, having parked in Barry Town and walked a mile or so. There were only 3 others dining, all regulars. The menu is innovative, highlighting local food, such as fish, lamb, laverbread, herbs. The cooking is extremely well-handled, with flavours a main feature: my haddock with smoked haddock croquette was delicious, as was my friend's duck breast with duck and fig arancini. Puddings a delight, as we scraped our plates. Although the service was friendly, a bit more knowledge of the dishes and ingredients would warrant 5 stars.

Have visited many times , never disappointed , last visit my teenage Daughter decided she was a vegan , Barney the Chef went out of his way to cook something special despite her being happy to have beans & chips.I thought the £30 set 3 course meal was good value considering the high end standard of food prepared.

This restaurant is definitely worth a visit a hidden gem and very reasonably priced for the quality of food on offer. We had the 3 course lunch menu and £20.40 it was excellent value. They change the menu every month and use local welsh produce and foraging their own herbs which results in delicious food. They have a good wine list including a decent house wine and a good cocktail menu. The home made warm bread and 3 types of butter were an excellent starting point. We had the crab cakes, beetroot ravioli and chicken liver parfait which were all excellent though you may wish to ask for more brioche with the parfait. 3 of us had the duck and the other the haddock all were very tasty. The deserts were fantastic we tried the lemon posset and the chocolate soufflé and the hot chocolate sauce was to die for!!They even brew their own beer and have a good selection of real ales and ciders that are all Welsh. The only thing they could do to improve is the lighting in the toilets it is far too dark and could do with being brighter.Definitely worth a visit and serves excellent food with good service.

Ate here with friends on a Saturday Lunchtime and were surprised when we arrived as the area is mainly fast food places. Were shown upstairs to table which was in a nice modern restaurant the menu is not huge but the food when it arrived was a very high quality a restaurant to go for Food not Fuel we had 3 courses and coffee and none of it disappointed, quality food served in correct portions (amount of food does not equal value for money its the quality that counts). will re visit

I have lived in Barry for 13 years and have only just discovered The Gallery!! The food is amazing - definitely on a par with the finest Michelin starred restaurants in my opinion. There is a different menu each month. The menu is not extensive - about 4 or 5 different choices for each course, but the choices offered are certainly not run of the mill! Don't go here if you only like steak and chips! The staff are very knowledgeable, which is just as well as I had to ask the waitress to explain several things that were on the menu! If you enjoy red wine, go for the house red - delicious!!Not cheap - 3 course meal is £30 in the evening, but well worth the money. Make sure you book! My only criticism is that the decor downstairs is worn and tired. The leatherette seats had tears in them. This is why I have not rated the restaurant as excellent, as my first impression was not great.

As a local I was at first happy with what was on offer at this beautifully designed restaurant with its tastefully modern decor and its menu with a difference. However it has become more Nuevo quisine of late and the food is rather disappointing
