The best restaurants serving British food in England

I was so sad that due to ill health I was unable to visit The Barge and say farewell to Tina and her husband who have been welcoming me (a very fussy vegetarian and I mean fussy) since I had my 60th Birthday party meal with family and friends. A whole six years of putting up with my menu choices and not batting an eyelid but laughing with me and my husband as to what I would choose. Thank you both for putting up with me it was always a real pleasure to dine with you. I hope you’ve still got my phone number Tina if you ever fancy a cuppa it would be an honour to meet up Shame though not at the Barge. Take care in your retirement and enjoy every day as it comes. I have visited The Clockspire on several occasions with different family members and it never fails to astound me. From the moment you set foot through the door until you say your goodbyes, you’re met with welcoming, knowledgeable and highly professional staff. Even when the restaurant is unimaginably busy, the team deliver incredible service that will leave you and your guests feeling like the most important people in the room. And the food is just to die for. The quality of the ingredients is unmatched and the flavour combinations are innovative, whilst still paying homage to the classics - you can just tell how much thought and care goes into every dish. The Clockspire is a hidden gem that truly deserves every accolade they’ve so far acquired and I can’t wait to dine with them again soon!

They sell themselves as "A restaurant with rooms" and that gives a mere hint of what they're REALLY about here, firstly, the rooms are beautiful, clean, & well maintained, their location literally couldn't be any better, just on the edge of the very lovely hill-top medieval town of Shaftesbury, it's a two minute walk into town and we'll worth a visit in itself, now then, the nitty-gritty, the food, OMG! I'm based in Leicestershire, and now I know how good the food is here, I can tell you that I would drive the 161 miles straight there for a feed here, no exaggerating, all three courses of my evening meal were absolutely stunning, the aromas, the textures, the sheer depth of flavours, I'm not gushing am I ? LoL Anyway, Don't take my word for it, get booking! You won't regret it

As always Bates restaurant did not disappoint. The menu was varied and catered for all palates. The food was amazing, well cooked, well presented, hot and delicious. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. I would recommend this restaurant for all types from ‘fussy’ eaters to fine diners. We will definitely be visiting again.

First time eating here and wow we were not disappointed.. great place and atmosphere, the food was delicious and cooked to perfection, and the staff were absolutely amazing, we couldn’t fault anything , would definitely recommend and go again.

Super friendly and sells the best cheesecake I've eaten in my entire life!

The hunters chicken wrap was amazing, and so was the Cadbury large special hot chocolate. The toilet was very clean, and the staff were lovely and helpful, and nice to talk to. Well done starburger very generous portions and great experience. This is my new favourite place to eat in Suffolk. They also have free WiFi. Great meals for all three of us. Great prices. 5/5★★★★★

Had an opportunity to stay at the Tearooms for 1 night during our 9 day Hadrians Wall walk. Cant say enough about our stay - the beautiful gardens that you are welcome to use, the pretty settings, the comfortable room and delicious dinner. The beer after the long days walk in the garden was so relaxing and the family style dinner ( book ahead) was delicious. Alex picked us up and dropped us off from our hike ending and start points easily and breakfast was plentiful for another days hike.

Can't beat it, classic food with even better service. Service with a smile !! The cakes are amazing as well.

Desert is great. I also liked homemade cookies. Definetely should give a try with your pop ins. Amazing 10 out of 10 on my perspective.
