The best restaurants in United Kingdom serving British food

Lovely Sunday lunch at great prices in our local pub. Reasonable wine prices (and French to boot), great beer and lagers and superb roast dinner (beef, pork or turkey). Not to mention my pâté starter. We didn’t have room for a dessert. Next time! Thanks team.

Searched for pubs in the area to eat at whilst away for a night in Clive and we found this absolute gem of a pub. Although it was busy they found us a seat in the window. Cozy, welcoming and the most delicious food. The lady who took our order was so lovely as were the other members of staff who served us. I had steak and ale pie, my husband had steak, both were mouth wateringly good. If we ever visit the area again, we will be sampling more of the menu. Thank you for an enjoyable evening meal

Had lunch and cakes here, one of the best places for to go for food during the day on the island. It’s well liked and well known by a lot of visitors. People have been going for 20 years+. Got some history about it and the place has never changed. Highly recommend the specialty meringue cake dish. It’s huge but worth it. Really disappointed about the annoying opening hours. We drove to visit one day on a Saturday and it was closed. Turns out it was SHUT FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, MONDAY EVERY WEEK DURING THE SUMMER PEAK PERIOD!! And we’ve found it it’ll be closed over winter too. We hear it’s to do with staffing issues which is a current issue but it was really disappointing to be closed on such busy peak days. Doesn’t make sense and we drove all that way

Fab service and unreal food. Have had Sunday lunch twice and it’s was perfect. Massive portions friendly staff and quick service.

We have stayed at St Mary's Hall many times on full board so we have used the Hall restaurant on many occasions and have always thought the food exceptional. This year we opted to self cater on then Island allowing us more evening freedom, but we wanted to book an evening meal for our wedding anniversary. We had a table in the Grill Room to allow us to bring our Cocker Spaniel with us. The Hall is obviously very proud of the steaks that it offers it's guests as there are pictures all around the restaurant, I would normally have had fillet steak , but as this was not available, I opted for a sirloin which they recommended medium rare, to say I was disappointed was an understatement, my steak was very tough and chewy and full of gristle, I just could not eat most of it. I did complain to the waitress and received £10 of the final bill. But for £49 for just the steak you expect it to be perfect, don't you? That said my wife who is a vegetarian, thoroughly enjoyed her meal. I am sure this was just an unfortunate experience and it will not deter us from ever using The Hall again.

Return visit while visiting family in the area. Room is comfortable and has everything you need. Food is lovely, proper grub freshly made. The owners are extremely friendly as are Staff who are so important to any business. Overall a great stay, thank you

Great cafe with consistently good service, coffee and fantastic cakes. Even better that they do gluten-free options (that are not brownies)

Friendly and efficient service. Locally sourced food, which was excellent. Highly recommend. Staff knowledgeable about all the local produce served.

A great Sunday lunch, excellent food and service with substantial portions. Well worth a visit. Best to book as it's not a large place.

Claire was lovely, 10/10 cocktails, would come again because of her service. The zombie and the woo woos were great and would buy again and good value for money

This place has now closed from 1/1/25. Such a shame as many wonderful reviews. Not particularly highlighted as their booking site still states the restaurant is there.

Enjoyed my lunch, sat outside with Charlie the cat. Lovely tearoom. Will definitely be coming back 😊
