What a superb find. The staff/owners couldn’t have been more accommodating and opened up their summerhouse as we had our dog (who was immediately brought fresh water and biscuits). Our Rich tea loaf was served with a huge slice of locally sourced, award winning farmhouse Wensleydale from Curlew Dairy Yoredale - absolutely delicious. All their ingredients we learnt were sourced locally, often championing small suppliers and the passion and pride in their hospitality shone through. Highly recommend taking a short detour off the Main Street to this lovely tea room.

Lovely little tearoom in Hawes. They accommodated our 1 and 4 year old by adapting the menu, also pointing out their baby changing room and provided a high chair. Delicious mushroom soup and soft, fresh baguettes. Extremely clean, especially the toilets. Thank you!

My wife and I where staying at the nearby caravan park and had planned a visit to this tearoom on our last day which we were really looking forward too. When we arrived at the tea room we planned to ask for a table and be directed to the dog friendly area however as we approached the front door we where greeted by an extremely rude chef shouting at us that no tables where available and it clearly said so on a sign at the door. Firstly the didn’t have my glasses on didn’t see the sign and secondly we followed a postwomen through the gate so the sign was obscured anyway. The chat not only embarrassed myself and my wife but the poor postwomen who then felt obliged to apologise to us. Approx 20 minutes later we had both dusted ourselves off and decided that we would try again as we had been so looking forward to it. So swallowing my pride we headed back this time to find the entrance closed off with straps resembling a nightclub. At this point we decided enough was enough and that we would spend our money elsewhere. Following a lovely lunch at The Crown round the corner we discovered the JW Cockett bakery at the end of road which transpired to supply this tea room so we bought all our cakes from here instead.

We arrived in Hawes with our rather large dog looking for some lunch before going on a hike. Luckily we passed this gem of a cafe on our way to the centre from the car park (it could be easily missed down a side road). Just away from the hustle and bustle of the main street, there were tables outside at the front and we were seated inside. The young man waiting on the tables could not have been more welcoming, especially to our dog Wilf who was given a large bowl of water and some dog treats! The menu is limited but everything was locally sourced and I was so pleased to see gluten free bread for the sarnies. I had some very local Wensleydale cheese that the chef explained was totally fresh, unpasteurised and the only cheese of it's kind. He also let me know that the accompanying chutney contained gluten. My sandwich was a very generous 'triple decker' when it arrived. My husband had a cheddar cheese and ham ciabatta (the ham being locally sourced from the butchers). I was thirsty so it was great that a 'top up' pot of hot water was brought alongside the tea pot. We had a little wait for our food but the waiter popped over to apologise, as did the chef when he brought the food out. The chef also let me know that amongst the incredibly tempting array of cakes there were several gluten free options. The room and tables were pristine, as was the toilet. Both the waiter and the chef were totally charming and I would thoroughly recommend this cafe.

Came here for afternoon tea for my Mum’s birthday. The grounds and decor inside the coach house are lovely. The afternoon tea and range of sandwiches and puddings were amazing and you could tell they were all freshly made, unlike a lot of other afternoon teas I have had. There was a good selection of teas to choose from and these were refilled. The scones were lovely and still nice and warm, not hard or difficult to cut into. The waiting staff were pleasant and friendly, they went through each filling and part of the afternoon tea also. Although this was a little bit more expensive than other places for afternoon tea it is definitely worth it for the good quality food and presentation. Would definitely visit again!

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!
