The Kings Head in Richmondshire

Prices have risen - and quite rightly too, if rural hospitality workers and suppliers are to receive a fair deal - yet The King’s Head is still great value for money. On Good Friday, the bar was heaving and every table was full. Lovely atmosphere, and good to see business booming. Delicious steak and ale pie, and an excellent pub chicken curry, both delivered by cheery staff - thank you!

Excellent evening meal consisting of Cumberland sausage and vegetables, fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding. This is a remote, traditional English pub that is a ‘must visit’ to anyone visiting Swaledale.

We had a lovely three course meal, food was absolutely delicious and atmosphere was great. We had a wonderful evening and it was amazing value for money too. It was recommended at our holiday cottage and it is a gem of a find!

Omg the steak pie was the best. Full of meat, thick gravy and hot. Could not fault it and I’m a connoisseur of pies in Yorkshire.

Really friendly and accommodating after we'd been for a walk in the rain and were wet through to the bone. Lovely food. I'd recommend the steak pie and chips. My friend had the beef Sunday lunch which was a bit minimal especially for the price.

My friend and I had been walking. We were drenched through . We called into the kind head for lunch . The owner was so helpful , she gave me some socks as mine were soaking wet and we dried our clothes on the radiator . The service was second to none , food was good and I shall definitely be back . Beautiful little place Food is home made faire so tasty and presented lovely. really must try the food at least once, Good ingredients used too. Lovely cozy place, family run as well, would definitely recommend to visit, even if it's to sample the real ale in front of the fire.

A great Dales pub. Stone flagged floors and a roaring fire. Quirky and full of character. Dog friendly too. Prebooked a Sunday Lunch. Garlic mushrooms, deep fried brie and roast beef/ Yorkshire puds rounded off with home made sticky toffee pudding. Delicious and very reasonably priced. Kings head team were all friendly and welcoming. Thank you.

A cosy traditional Dales pub. We enjoyed the Steak and Ale Pie, Gush and Chips and Hunters Chicken. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed an excellent fish and chips, Cumberland sausage and steak and ale pie and vegetables. Nice portions, friendly welcome and great service. Everyone staying in Swaledale should visit the King’s Head in our opinion.

Lovely little village pub. We had dinner a few nights there and each time it was very tasty . Extremely friendly staff but unfortunately the lovely tenets are leaving. Such a shame as really friendly people. I'm sure they are going to be missed

You've just got to visit this place in delightful Askrigg.. Great atmosphere, hosts, food, beer and locals. Feels like you are in Darroby, (all Creatures Great and Small)

A quaint little countryside pub that we landed on as driving past. A great drinks selection, very friendly staff. We didn't eat here so we can't comment.

A lovely small pub in this small village. It has a great range of drinks and a varied menu, not a traditional village pub menu. The Steak and Ale Pie was not great, far too much Thyme resulting in lot's of stalks and thyme leaves, maybe I had the bottom of the pan?

Highly recommend the Kings Head. We had many great evening meals. Varied menu and competitively priced. Local ales on tap. Friendly staff, will visit again soon.

The King’s Head is cosy and friendly. They had brilliant local real ales on tap from the Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company and local Spirit of Swaledale gin. The menu had a good variety. It’s advisable to book a table.

This is a small friendly local pub food is quite nice with a very limited menu. Basically something for everyone but no frills, which suits me. Prices are a little on the high side, but the pub is very remote so they are like everywhere else,they have to cover their costs. Open Wednesday to Sunday closed Monday and Tuesday. Great for walking in the area and dogs welcome.

Been visiting gunnerside for 57 years now and seen many changes .the kings head is the heart of the village and offers great hospitality .with a good selection of food and drink all well presented and well priced .a real asset to the area .

Visited the kings head 30/7 /22. Great welcoming on arrival for a pre booked meal for 6 (4 adults and two teenagers) good varied menu and great local history around the Wall’s. Food was served promptly and all of us really enjoyed our grub 😋😋....

Stopped off doing the coast to coast as a group. Having bought a large round of drinks and snacks the barman came outside and publicly vilified and companion who was eating her own sandwich. I appreciate that you have a business to run and that you only want people eating your food but perhaps a bit more discretion could have been used to get his point across rather than public humiliation

We all had different meals and all excellent and home cooked, the three men had the lamb curry , best they have tasted, would highly recommend, advise booking as very busy

Tiny pub in centre of the hamlet. Outside seating pretty . Only had a drink but they do have food.

Book ahead -this place is popular and deservedly so. We had very good pub food and great beer (Swaledale Pale is a must) and the staff were friendly and efficient, working hard on a busy night. Enough to cheer anybody up!

I have visited KH several times and previously enjoyed the experience, this time (28th May) was not so good. Having booked a table on line I did not expect to wait over half an hour before I could order food and for it to take two hours before we finished our one and only course. The plates were not cleared and we were not offered dessert so we paid and left. It will be a while before we try again. The two stars are my generous offering for the food we actually got being ok

Nice pub, good food. Nuff said... Children's menu consisted of 3 options so if your kids are fussy this may be a problem. My boy didn't like the chips, ate the chicken goujons though. My girl ate sausages. Nice desserts, they do gluten free options...

We have spent the last week in Gunnerside and have visited the Kings Head 3 times for evening meals. Each time the food was absolutely delicious and the service excellent. The range of beers is also good and I can't reccomend the Kings Head too...

I went to the King’s Head with my partner for an evening meal in our holiday in Swaledale and it was very good non pretentious pub food served with a smile. We will certainly be going back.

Had a mid-week dinner of pheasant and haggis and the sweet potato burger. Both were outstanding and quite delicious. The pub is small, friendly, welcoming and an unmissable stop for anyone visiting Swaledale.

So so nice great food a friendly staff love it

Popped in after a rather wet, wild and windy walk to warm up with some Sunday lunch. Couldn’t have been better looked after! We were greeted with a cosy fire and warm smiles, and we were soon warm and dry with full tums! Food was delicious, highly recommend the smoked haddock chowder, and the service from Sarah, Steve, and the team was second to none. Will definitely be back again soon- maybe when it’s a bit milder! We absolutely loved this Pub during our Holiday to Gunnerside. Very welcoming and friendly. Menu changes regularly keeping the choice fresh and varied and the food is delicious. We were made to feel so welcome on every visit and the space is warm and inviting. We will definitely be back when in the area.

Stopped here on a Friday lunchtime. The staff were welcoming and friendly. As other noted, the beers were in perfect condition, the menu was varied and the dishes we had we all well cooked and tasty.
