We recently endured a hostile and deeply unprofessional experience at the Oddfellows Arms. Due to the difficulty in arranging childcare for a group of mums to meet up for a rare dinner out together, a few members of the party arrived 10 minutes late. During this time, the staff unpleasantly complained and badgered us about this fact despite our group not having been given menus to look at, not being offered drinks; the offer for the latecomer to order ahead was rudely rejected. Further aggression was directed at us before finally the chef appeared and declared no one would be eating, intimidating a group of ladies in a way with his sarcastic comments and body language in a manner which would never be used to address men. It is advertised on there Facebook page that they serve food until 8.30 which is not the case. If they are needing people to order a long time before the kitchen is closed they need to state a time for last orders on food on there Facebook page or when you book over the phone, neither of which were done. Our group was luckily able to enjoy a fantastic meal elsewhere locally, at short notice, with friendly and accommodating service. The hostility demonstrated by the Oddfellows staff means unfortunately it is a pub to be avoided under its current management.

Absolutely fantastic food and service as usual. We would 100% recommend the food here, as it consistently exceeds expectations. From their breakfasts to their main courses and Sunday roast, everything is both delicious and reasonably priced. You must try their mid-week set menu; it's incredibly affordable with excellent dishes. Lastly, don't miss out on Fizz Friday—it's truly worth it. Highly recommended!

2nd time we have eaten here and not disappointed the food is amazing , lovely helpful staff always have a smile for you nothing is too much trouble for them, relaxed atmosphere and tables are spacious. Definitely recommend to friends & family. Booking is advised as they are always very busy .

I visited with my daughter for sunday lunch. The food and service was exceptional I must say though, we are not big eaters but one slice of meat just is really not acceptable I would like to visit again but you only when your meat portion improves. I have had the same feedback off friends too so it really is not just me

Great little country pub and restaurant. We had a great meal. It's not just pub food it was excellent. There was lots of choice and the prices were very reasonable. Atmosphere was good. Staff were excellent too, very welcoming and went out of their way to make sure you had a lovely evening. We would highly recommend and we will be back soon.

We’ve just been for our first visit today for Sunday Lunch. The food was fabulous. Beef, Pork and vegetables were cooked perfectly and fabulous huge Yorkshire puddings. Service was first class, with a smile from the ladies. Definitely worth a visit and we’ll be back. X

Visited as a party of 10 for a joint birthday Sunday lunch, the service was very good, and the food delicious. They kindly brought the birthday cake out that I had brought with me at just the right moment and helped sing happy birthday! Would definitely recommend, and will visit again.

Visited on a Friday evening with friends, we had pre booked a table, it was busy so recommend you book . On arrival bar area was very busy. Had a table in the restaurant area, which had a nice relaxing atmosphere. Staff friendly and good service. Good selection on main menu and some specials available as well. Food was very tasty and presented well. Good choice of desserts and coffee. Enjoyable evening. Definitely will be returning.

Went last night with 2 friends, the atmosphere was relaxed the staff were very friendly, the chef was amazing ,he came out to say hello, the food was absolutely amazing, Hugh portions. Prices were very reasonable definitely go again and would recommend to friends.

Went for a meal tonight and it was amazing from start to finish. Everyone so friendly. Place is clean and tidy fresh and new. The meal was out of this world. 2 lots of fish and chips and a lamb shank. And puddings. You can tell there got one of the best chefs around the place is so busy so make sure you book. Had a fantastic lunch on a Saturday at the Oddfellows. Delicious plentiful food and we didn’t feel rushed at all- we could have stayed and whiled away a few more hours. Tye staff were fantastic and attentive. We will be back!

A super place to celebrate my 60th birthday with family. We wanted to avoid the city centre as we wanted easy parking & easy access. We enjoyed delicious food & excellent service. The place was nicely busy on a Saturday evening but the lovely atmosphere meant we were still able to enjoy conversation without having to shout! All important when you have older family members in the party. Pleasant staff who were welcoming & polite. Thankyou!

Our family dined here last night to celebrate our son’s 21st. They went out of their way to accommodate us all and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic, huge portions, fresh and cooked to perfection, cannot fault in anyway. Lovely atmosphere, and it all made our son’s birthday very special. Perfect hosts, delicious food, what more do you want? Highly recommend!!

We ordered rib eye from the specials board with peppercorn sauce. The steak was OK but not much better than weatherspoons or flaming grill pubs and certainly not worth the £25 price tag. When the sauce turned up which was cold and resembled gloop with peppercorns my wife had nearly eaten her steak and I was half way through mine. The waiter was very apologetic and informed us we would not be charged for the sauce which was fair. However the management and chef have become faceless, issues like ours and the table next to us who also sent a meal back twice should not be dealt with by a 17/18 year old part time member of staff. We spent £70 tonight and do not feel we had value for money in fact quite the opposite, we had a similar meal at the half moon which was far better the oddies needs to up its game..... unfortunately

1st pub for us after the never ending lock down! The owner couldn’t have made us feel more welcome, as we are only aloud outside at the moment, and it was a bit chilly, she came out and gave blankets to my wife and two daughters! The next night we had food there, and it was amazing! The burgers are completely fresh and very thick, can’t recommend enough thank you!

Had a great dinner here, whilst visiting the area for the first time. Husband loved his surf & turf. Nice pudding too. Very nice decor. Have eaten here for the last two weekends meeting friends. Really superb food cooked really well. Fish last week and mixed grill this week for me and clean plates for all of us. The staff are managing the Covid systems really well and they made sure everyone had left by 10pm.

Visited for our Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and felt totally relaxed as the Covid19 regulations were expertly practised. Starters were lovely, my wife had the Garlic Mushrooms and said they were the tastiest she had ever had. I had the Black Pudding with a perfectly cooked poached egg. Had it been my choice I would have had 2 slices of Black Pudding and no bread, just my preference. Mains were Homemade Lasagne and a Medium Rare Ribeye Steak with a lovely blue cheese sauce. Everything we had was cooked perfectly, and served hot!!.The steak was as good as I have had anywhere, credit to the chef there. The young lady that served us was very polite and made sure we had everything we needed. We will certainly visit again very soon, cannot recommend the Oddfellows highly enough, try it, you will not be disappointed .

Had Sunday lunch in these Covid times. Well furnished and Covid compliant Pub. Well staffed and attentive service. Food was excellent well portioned and very well presented. Cannot fault it. Highly recommend.

We chose the Oddfellows after reading the reviews. We booked for an 8pm slot arriving a little after 7:30 and enquired if we could sit early and enjoy a drink before the booking time, this was no problem and were shown to a table. The table was located near to a doorway so I asked the host if we could have the window table, of course she happily said. The dining area has a Scottish tinge to it with a grey tartan carpet and traditional tartan backed chairs. An easy to follow one way system is in place with sanitiser station located within the entrance. That evening had a nice summers glow to it so the outside dining was popular especially with families. We sat and ordered a very nice New Zealand wine which was very reasonably priced at just under £20.The host took our order of a warm chicken and bacon salad & Cajun chicken breast with home cooked fries, corn cob, mushroom and grilled tomato with a dash of peppercorn and brandy sauce. While we waited for our main we chatted to our host (Norma) who hailed originally from the north of Glasgow the tartan now made sense in a Yorkshire village who was informative , engaging and very pleasant. The food was bought to us by a delightful young waitress who for her tender years was crafted in the art of customer care. The food was amazing both in taste presentation and quantity, the wine accompaniment was matched to perfection. I asked the waitress to convey my compliments to the chef (Normas partner) for his culinary skills. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Oddfellows Arms so much so that we have reserved a table next week. If your visiting in and around the greater York area and you want an evening of great food and wine then make a beeline for this establishment you will not be disappointed I assure you!

Just had Sunday lunch at the Odd Fellows and the food was hot, tasty, lots of it and the service was fast. Credit goes to Julian the Chef for the lovely food and to Norma for having such a well organised restaurant and the staff are lovely too. I’ve eaten at the Odd Fellows loads of times and it has always been consistent, so if you haven’t been then get yourself booked in !!! Mandy x

The owner served me and my family she is brilliant with customer service. The pub it’s self is cosy and friendly. I have had something different on the three visits I have been and can honestly say I have not been disappointed with any of it. Portion size is more then generous and brilliant value for money

I enjoyed a most pleasant meal at the Oddfellows Arms on a Saturday night. It’s the first time I’ve eaten there since the new licensees took over.The pub is bright and lively with a pleasant ambiance, the beer choices were good and the hand pulled beers well kept.The landlady showed us to our table for 6 in the restaurant her customer service skills being excellent. The restaurant is pleasantly furnished and well presented.The menu was excellent not too fussy and not too many choices. I opted for the Pate starter which was very good and a medium rib eye steak with a peppercorn sauce which was excellent. The whole dish being tasty and well presented. One of our party had a rack off ribs which was amazing. All the dishes looked great. The Salmon and chicken pie also went down very well with our party members.Food very good, service very good. Can’t fault anything at all and we will definitely go back.

Booked as a family for five and not disappointed, this was the first time we had dined here but will be using in the future. Quite a comprehensive menu with something different for everyone and at a sensible price and well presented.

Last week I brought a coach full of passengers here for the first time and had an amazing christmas dinner.On arrival, we were greeted by our host Norma. She was very welcoming, Much like the pub with its wood burner and beautiful christmas decorations.We had a pre booked 3 course christmas dinner which was gorgeous, freshly cooked and piping hot. The portions were very generous and many passengers said it was the best christmas meal they'd done.I personally have lactose intolerance and this was catered for with no fuss. I noticed plenty of gluten free options too.There was a great drinks selection which was fairly priced and the locals were a delight to talk to at the bar.The great thing I found was that there is parking off street for a coach, possibly two if you get them close together and if your visiting york before hand like we did, this is only 20 minutes from the centre.Many thanks and I hope to visit you again very soon.Rob (The coach Driver)

Great find, on our way from North Wales up North! Looking for lunch and somewhere to watch the football! Found on the BT Sport website and messaged through Facebook whilst I was co-piloting! Parked outside the door, lovely welcoming staff, great big screen and lovely pub food! Had the steak sandwich and homemade fish finger sandwich cooked to perfection! Great local pub, great staff, lovely atmosphere, would definitely recommend.

Good food, a friendly atmosphere and a real fire - what more could you want? There was something for everyone, from a smaller appetite to filling burgers. I had the sea bass with loads of seasonal veg which was delicious. The only downside was we had no room for a starter or pudding! The Landlord/Timothy Taylor ale was really good too.

Four of us all had different meals and they were all excellent including puddings. The bill was £92 so not bad for 4. Pleasant, helpful friendly staff and good happy atmosphere.

I met a good friend at the pub for some lunch, it was a Tuesday so pretty quiet but the fire was roaring and the welcome was very friendly. The menu was extensive and lots of delicious choices. We both went for a burger... Wow! Make sure you are hungry... they are huge! But so good! Perfectly cooked, deliciously flavoursome, great choice of toppings served with beautiful homemade onion rings and chunky chips! Unfortunately we had absolutely no room for pudding but we were very happy with the meals we recieved. Very reasonably priced too!

We visited today as a party of 6 to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we had excellent service , the staff especially the lady who i believe may have been the owner were exceedingly pleasant . The food portions were large and hot . My parents can be fussy eaters but they were very impressed with their gammon and would go back which is a glowing recommendation. I had the steak pie and it was proper melt in the mouth steak. The puddings were delectable . Would highly recommend he Oddfellows .

We called here for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago and we found an hidden Gem. The pub itself was beautiful with a very warm welcome from the staff. We sat in the restaurant section of the pub for our meal. I have to say that the food and the service was excellent it was the best Sunday lunch we have had more in line with a top City high end restaurant but at pub prices. So if you are looking for top notch fabulous food then this place is a must. We will certainly be visiting again.

Stopped off for a pub lunch at this pub coming back from York the menu was simple not over the top ordered Yorkshire pudding wrap and smoking joe burger waited 10 to 15 mins we were not disappointed cooked to order exerlent value for money not skimping on ingredients chunky chips were perfect well worth a visit no more eating in the food court at York outlet will visit this little gem again

We read some reviews after struggling to find somewhere to eat. We were a bit hesitant from the outside but once we went in, it was very lovely. Staff were very friendly and we were served quickly. Gorgeous food, very yummy. Nice menu and one for children also. Reasonably priced for what you get. Would definitely return :)

We tried The Oddfellows Arms while away for a holiday weekend, it was our 4th restaurant trip and we definitely left the best to last!

I visited last month with my family for Sunday dinner, the food was lovely as was the waitresses! However I couldn’t help but notice how the lady who I assume was the manager spoke to the other members of staff infront of other customers aswell! It was concerning how much lack of respect she had for them, understanding it is a stressful job it was disgraceful to see young members of staff spoken to in that way!

Beer is cheap enough and the barmaid even managed to put a clover on my pint of guinness. Food was cracking I had a mixed grill and all the meat was percent. The lad I was with had a burger that was about 14ft tall it looked incredible. He couldbt finish it though he is a loser.

Family Sunday lunch whilst visiting the area. First class food. Well presented Sunday Roasts, great selection of vegetables, and puddings to die for. Great local beer. Dogs allowed in the bar area.

My wife and I organised this venue for a lunch for a group of 24 people. A little apprehensive as we had not eaten here before BUT all fears were totally unfounded.

Visited last Tuesday with friends from Germany. Another excellent meal (chicken in a Stilton, cream and bacon sauce). Our friends were very impressed having heard negative things about British Cuisine! Looking forward to our next visit.

Booked for a Saturday evening meal whilst in the area on a mini break. What a find!! The service was excellent and friendly. The food was fantastic, enjoying a main meal and desserts. Had read some of the other reviews before, but didn’t agree with the not so good ones. We would definitely go back again.

We called in here for a quick lunch and were not disappointed. A pretty traditional interior coupled with a pleasant welcome boded well, both our meals were absolutely fine, tasty and nicely presented. The menu is very much traditional pub food, it would be nice to see some more adventurous dishes. It is what it is, a decent pub serving sound food at a reasonable price, worth visiting.

Went to the odd fellows arms last night and what a shocking experience to witness owners bullying a member of staff by name calling and making nasty comments about her. The young girl who they where bullying had taken my order was very pleasant and hard working, will never go back and do not recommend to anyone!

Came here with my mum, sister and my daughters. Together we ordered scampi, a ploughman's sandwich, cheesy chips and a children's cheesy pasta. When the food arrived, the servings were enormous. The most gigantic, delicious, twice cooked potato wedges, served in a basket, accompanied each main meal. We were all struggling to finish. The lady serving was so friendly and our individual requests were catered for. Will definitely return.

Just been to the Oddies for an impromptu teatime drink with friends and our two kids and stayed for food. The meals were all beautifully presented and tasted delicious.
