Honestly never known a meat pie that good

Cannot fault the whole evening. Service was super, food was excellent and the whole ambience perfect for relaxed dining. We highly recommend and will certainly dine here again.

First time visiting The Star Inn and we will definitely be returning and definitely would recommend. Staff and service was fabulous too.

Me and my good Lady very much enjoyed our 3 course lunch today, the food was a very high standard and plentiful. The Starr Inn does attract well healed individuals however it is not expensive nor overpriced or designer for the high standards they achieve. From been seated to leaving the turn around time was about 1 hour and 40 min which is very respectable for how busy it was. We will be visiting again, I also appreciated that no service charge was added to the bill, instead you are politely given the option if you want to.

A truly wonderful country style pub with exceptional service. I ordered the steak & ale pie which was certainly not stingy on the filling, large chunks of melt in your mouth steak. I was so full but was desperate to try the crème brûlée which again did not disappoint. Will certainly be back, absolute credit to the village of Sancton⭐️

Excellent yet again. Steak and Ale pie is amazing. All food piping hot and fresh. Service excellent and there when you needed someone. Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. Thank you and our visitors from Essex loved it too !!!

One of the best pub restaurants in the area. Well worth a travel for a meal. The Star never disappoints! Lovely family meal last week, Wife and Son has Star Pie which is a firm favourite. I had fillet beef which was superb. 10/10 to the chefs. Staff are super attentive and very polite. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

The Star has been on our list of places to visit for a long time, finally visited for midweek lunch in the restaurant and it was amazing, great venue, great staff and above all great food which we felt was value for money. The steak pie was probably the best ever and the fish pie was delicious. The staff are some of the nicest we have come across which all contributes to a great experience. No service charge is automatically added to the bill but was more than happy to leave a decent tip. We will be returning as soon as possible to steadily work our way through the excellent menu. 10/10

Very well run and invested pub. Professional but with lots of personality. Really good food, well put together in an enticing menu. My wife and I loved it and booked again whilst we were still there. A real 'find' in East Yorkshire. Congratulations to those responsible for The Star Inn.

In my opinion, one of the best places to eat in Yorkshire, the meat pie is my go-to meal here, with friendly service and a great selection of drinks. It's a real treat.

Cocktails was nice but extremely small and they tried adding £3 service charge on so it would of been £27 for 2 cocktails which is crazy

I visited last night with my partner and we could not be happier that we did as the entire evening, beginning to end, was such a wonderful experience. We were greeted by the most warm and friendly staff who continued to provide outstanding service throughout the evening, and the food was equally as fantastic. I honestly cannot fault any of the food, service or cosy atmosphere and both my partner and I cannot wait to return. We will be booking a table today for December so we can try the Christmas menu!

Excellent steak pie - would thoroughly recommend.

A new place for me but one I will certainly return to. The steak and ale pie was amazing. Friendly attentive service. Chocolate dipped cinder toffee with the beverages. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Visited again on a very busy Saturday evening. We were immediately greeted by a smiling Kay who as always is a breath of fresh air with her bubbly personality. Our food as on our previous visits was superb. The menu is extremely innovative & has something for everyone, each dish comes beautifully presented & is perfect for a person like me who eats with her eyes. I cannot stress how much the staff here are so friendly. Unfortunately I didn’t get the names of the other waitresses that served us throughout our evening but they too deserve recognition for their good service. On paying our bill we had a lovely lighthearted conversation with Kay & also Jacob behind the bar. Sorry Jacob that I forgot to mention you on my previous reviews but just so you know your lovely personality hasn’t gone unnoticed. Thankyou for yet another great visit. See you all again soon

We come to The Star every year for our anniversary. We got engaged here and have been coming for 5 years. Absolutely brilliant staff and amazing food. Highly reccomemd

Exceptional service, didn't get our waitress’s name but she had the biggest smile I have ever seen ! Fantastic meet and greet, waiting for our friends to arrive and we were seated provided with drinks before the blink of an eye, our friends joined us late and were escorted to our table and said waitress even remembered that they had no known allergy’s even though my friends have only been once before and that was in June. This waitress needs a medal 🥇 Decor inside The Star is sublime and me being an amateur interior designer was blown away, clean, spacious and inviting. The Sunday lunch was picked by us all choosing beef, never tasted beef like that before it was sooooo tender and flavoursome, the Yorkshire pudding well you can taste why it’s award winning. Would highly highly recommend this place everything was perfect even blankets provided outside in the beer garden for when it gets cooler, our only recommendation would be to place custard on the dessert menu as not everyone likes ice cream, thank you Team The Star for the best Sunday lunch. This was our 3rd visit & just like the other 2 it was fantastic. Ours was a party of 6 & each course was delicious & beautifully presented. Our waitress Kay as on the previous visits was very professional & attentive even remembering my husband’s Dairy intolerance. Each & every member of serving staff are extremely friendly & they are an absolute credit to the owners. This has to be one of the best places we have found & we will be visiting again very soon

An amazing dining experience Best food in Yorkshire

I called into the star in for a drink it is a very smart village pub, and there are no bar games it is mainly an up market dining pub. There is an excellent choice of beers, lager and cider including two cask conditioned hand pulled real ales which were in excellent condition when i visited. The pub is not dog friendly, but the lovely staff brought my drink out to me in the nice beer garden, and there was a bowl of water for the dog. there were a lot of people dining when I arrived. The food looked very nice, I had a look at the menu, and it was very tempting. Excellent beer, friendly staff nice beer garden i will be back without the dog.

A fantastic example of high quality pub food and excellent service. The soup of the day, was delicious and well balanced, the steak and ale pie was the best I've ever had, completely filled with steak that falls apart at a touch and an incredibly tasty gravy. The English cheese board was a great end to the meal with 3 well selected cheeses.

Never been to The Star Inn before. Absolutely luxurious. Absolutely amazing first class service from the staff. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. The Inn is really gorgeous. Great wine selection. This restaurant was off the scale as it was an experience of pure luxury.

Unexpectedly nice restaurant nestled on a back road to York. The Star Inn looks like a pub from the outside but on the inside has clearly undergone something of a transformation to "Almost-Michelin-Star" quality restaurant.

Six of us had a superb meal here. One of the part was gluten and dairy intolerant and they can adapt many meals easily to cater for them. The staff were excellent and gave confidence the intolerance was being catered for and the person was nicely looked after in a discrete way. Thanks. The menu is well thought through with a great selection for anyone. Our 14yr old was able to eat of the children’s menu - that made her happy. The A-La-Carte menu is lovely but if you want something cheaper The Yorkshire Menu offers 2 or 3 courses well priced. I had the scallops- perfect. Ribeye steak was best I’ve had since Argentina. Awesome. Parking is perfect. Drinks menu if good with 0% and mocktail options. Staff are attentive and friendly.

Fantastic meal, service and ambience.

Absolutely fantastic food as always. First class company and lovely setting. A real buzz about the room Seared scallops were perfection. Sirloin could not have been better. My friend had the fish pie which was delicious. Excellent beer and good wine complimented the meal superbly. Be back sooner rather than later.

This restaurant was recommended to us by another establishment that was unable to accommodate us. We were on holiday in the area and wished to find a quality place to eat out. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. The quality of the food was excellent. We could not fault the service provided. We will definitely visit again.

Went to The Star Inn last night for a meal. Our first visit. We could only get a table at 8.45pm. We arrived about 8 30pm We were advised our table wasnt quite ready, but we sat and ordered drinks. Two of us wanted Thatchers Zero but they only had 1 bottle left. We were given the menus to look at and choose our food before going to the table. The food arrived quickly, it was delicious. I would personally have liked more time inbetween courses and more vegetarian and vegan options. Service was excellent.

My partner booked a surprise date night for us at The Star Inn, neither of us had been before and it was on our to do list. Oh my goodness - it did not disappoint! We both had a starter, main, and shared a dessert as by that point I was ready to burst. All the food was presented beautifully, pipping hot and tasted fantastic! We also thought for a gastro pub it was very good value for money - 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 pints, 2 soft drinks all for less than £100. I would also like to say thank you to our waitress Kay, you were so lovely and attentive the whole evening. You made us feel welcome and you’re a credit to The Star Inn team - 10/10!

Plesent and relaxing experience.

Excellent valentines treat . Set menu gave us the chance to try dishes we would never have ordered and every course was delicious . Staff are very welcoming and professional. Atmosphere was intimate for the occasion . Thankyou for a really enjoyable evening

We passed on valentines night and popped in for a drink . Although fully booked and busy we were accomadated near the bar for lovely drinks and attentive service . We will so look forward to our Xmas day booking at this venue .

My wife and I have just got home from a most perfect evening at The Star. The Valentine's menu was amazing. Kay's cocktail was exceptional - it should have a special name! The salt-baked celeriac was a real surprise. I didn't know that the texture and flavour of celeriac could be transformed into something almost fruit -like and totally delicious. The venison was perfectly cooked and was followed by a dessert that rounded off the faultless meal. Well done and thanks to everyone.

Came here for the first time in December for a works meal, and definitely decided it wouldn't be the last time. Came again on 2nd Feb with family, and the food is just absolutely amazing! Everything from the quality, presentation, the staff and atmosphere just perfect! For starters I had the soup of the day, which was Parsnip, celeriac and Apple, now this is not something i would normally order and thought I'd give it a try, definitely did not disappoint. My husband and mum had the Yorkshire pudding, and step-dad had the smoked haddock, absolutely beautiful! Mains I had the beef bavette, husband had the sirloin, my mum the steak & ale pie and step-dad had the duck from the specials. Everything was cooked to perfection, i literally was so full but didn't want it to end. Desserts I had the sticky toffee, husband had a caramel chocolate and my step-dad had a dairy free chocolate with honeycomb. We needed some time before we moved haha! Now the staff...wow! They were all fantastic but have to give a big shout out to LEIGH & K, you ladies were absolutely amazing, so attentive and just gave amazing service. I literally cannot wait to come back

We came here for the first time on Saturday evening with my Daughter & Son in law as they had been here at Xmas & highly recommended it. The welcome we received was very friendly & our waitress Kay was equally friendly & she was very attentive throughout the night. Our food was amazing. We had the steaks, duck & I was served the best Steak & ale pie I’ve ever had. They catered very well for my husband’s Dairy intolerance & the Vegan dessert he had was phenomenal. All the staff that served us were fantastic & it’s a pleasure to see young people working well together as a team & they are all dressed very smartly. We will be returning very soon

Great food friendly staff and great service

All our table had a lovely meal. Except me I had the sirloin steak costing £37•50 it was awful full of gristle and very tough even though I had it cooked medium. Also the chips were not cooked long enough they were hard in the middle. Must have been unlucky as the rest of our table enjoyed their meals

For two of us a big big disappointment. The food was badly executed. Paid 110£ for one shared starter two mains and two desserts. Plates went back over half untouched. We ended up here after local foodie recommended and good reviews. Big disappointment. The desserts were possibly the best part but could use just half of the sugar in it so it actually could have tasted better. Won’t be back. Service and place is ok.

There's a reason it has a Michelin star. The food is excellent, the service top notch but friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is sophisticated without being stuffy or remote. Well worth a visit. Or several...

Had a table book for 3pm waited at the bar 15 minutes before been served a drink. We eventually got sat down at our table at 3:15pm to be told they had ran out of there main selling things on the menu then to be told we had to order our food asap as last orders where at 3:30 but they where the ones that sat us down late!! Will not be returning

Came for Sunday Lunch today New Years Eve and was our first visit but trust me won’t be our last. The food and service was absolutely 5 star. Just couldn’t be faulted. Oh and service charge not added to the bill so 20% given as was so well deserved. Thanks to the whole team for a great experience

After a busy Christmas at home it was wonderful to head out to The Star for a family Boxing Day lunch. Having previously dined at The Star, we had high hopes... and were absolutely thrilled on the day! The staff were remarkable, without exception, with huge smiles and friendly chatter for everyone. The food was delicious, came out in good time, everyone served together and no huge delays between courses, despite how busy they were on the day. We had been asked to free up the table for the second sitting (at the time of booking) but felt no pressure to speed up or leave at any time. The whole experience from the initial booking to the actual lunch was pure delight and the whole team at The Star are to be congratulated!

We have been frequent visitors to the Star since Ben & Lindsey Cox have been running the operation ( almost 20 years now ). Our lunch last Friday, selected from their Festive Menu was a 'Tour de Force.' Many thanks to Ben & the kitchen team. The restaurant & bar were as busy as we've ever seen, with commendable & efficient service from Kay, Leigh, Sharon and all Front of House staff. We have visited The Star on many occasions. It's in a beautiful setting and there's a great atmosphere. The service is impeccable without being overbearing, staff are always friendly and welcoming- a special mention to Kay who greeted us. The quality of the meals were of the highest standard- the steak and ale pie, halibut special and sticky toffee puddings were the standouts for us. The Star is one of the best restaurants in the area along with The Westwood at Beverley. Thank you to Ben, Lindsay and the team for a fantastic visit.

After hearing rave reviews about the Star at Sancton we eagerly awaited our Dinner reservation in October. We were totally blown away by the quality of our amazing meal and of the professional service and attention to detail that we received on a very busy evening. We cannot wait to return! Having recently visited 2 Michelin Star restaurants within close proximity the Star is right up there with the best of them. Lovely pub with extremely friendly service. Fish&Chips were excellent as were the desserts. After all the hype about the best Yorkshire pud we were a little underwhelmed with the Sunday Roast - nice meat, super vegetables and freshly grated horseradish were lovely but sauce could really be improved

We regularly dine out at the Star and find the food really good. Mainly we have the two courses which is really nice. The only thing that we find is that the vegetables are usually too hard and could do to be a bit softer....
