Gold Cup Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

This pub is constantly mentioned as being a good place to eat, so we were very disappointed in our meal. To start with, the food delivery was exceptionally slow. Table booked for 6:30, order taken before 6:45, but meals did not arrive until 7:30. No apology, in fact we were slightly lectured on having to wait to get it right. Scampi and chips was excellent. Sea bass was rather dry (perhaps been kept under a heat lamp after cooking). Roast beef and Yorkshire was bland and boring. Stilton burger was very disappointing - the stilton was almost non-existent and there was no other garnish in the burger - could get better in a supermarket. When paying, I said the food was "alright" in a manner that should have been picked up, but nothing was said. We won't be going again.

Been here a few times and has always been nice ,Took my son for a tea treat and it was awfull I've eaten better food in a supermarket cafe , £16.95 for a roast dinner with 3 very thin beef and a frozen Yorkshire pudding. Dryed out veg totally not acceptable, and a burger of which I did not pay for it was very dry over cooked , never again !!! . Shame it used to be lovely food

Been coming for years for the 3 course Sunday roast and it’s always been superb with no faults. Lovely staff and great vibe.

Yet again, we received a warm and friendly welcome. The dining area is a calm environment which sets tge scene for have an an enjoyable evening. The menu provides a wide choice and the food was as always, excellent. The portions are plentiful and the quality is excellent. The service is outstanding, everyone gives you their full attention. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Large menu but on the day we were there (lunch) it was very quiet ( midweek) so atmosphere was missing nice staff and service and food was good quality

Been here many times over the last 20 years and our whole extended family love it.

5 of us came for dinner last Saturday at 5:30pm and all 5 left happy. The food was outstanding. Three of us had the steak and ale pie with chips, my wife had the crisp pork belly and my son had the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. Highly recommend.

This pub is a Gem!! We went twice during our weeks holiday in nearby Florida Keys Holiday park!! Had a fantastic dinner there, piping hot food and with sizeable portions! You could never leave there hungry!!! The staff are very friendly and welcoming there, catering for your every need 👍🏼 I can honestly say that this is possibly the best inn I have had the pleasure to eat in!! Very highly recommend you should give it a go .

Staff were top notch, food was ok, nothing startling. It's a good old-fashioned village pub end of. Gents Loos are immaculate.☺️ .

Durante la nostra vacanza abbiamo incontrato i nostri amici che risiedono nelle vicinanze di questo ristorante (uno dei loro preferiti). Abbiamo potuto assaporare l'atmosfera british ed un servizio cordiale ed attento. Buone le pietanze (stinco di agnello, maiale arrosto, branzino) serviti con un'ottima varietà di verdure. Cheese cake e brownie ottimi. Il tutto con un buon pinot rosato (sul vino siamo rimasti in Italia). Assolutamente consigliato per una buona cena con prodotti locali.

My husband chose the Gold Cup Inn as it was on our way back from a visit to East Yorkshire on 10 August. We ate in the bar area and had a beautiful lunch. The food was very tasty in particular the lemon and cream sauce with my sea bass and the plum and ginger sauce with my husband’s duck. The vegetables that we shared were also cooked well. It was also my birthday so I couldn’t have asked for a better meal and also friendly service.

We went here at the weekend with family. We all ordered sirloin steak at £25.99 each. The steak was tasteless with lots of fat and gristle and was served with a portion of frozen peas. We were given a choice of either a sauce or tomato and mushrooms which at the price charged I thought rather pathetic, it came with plenty of frozen chips. This was a birthday treat so we didn’t complain but had we been on our own we certainly would have. We asked for the steaks medium rare and they were over cooked, very disappointing.

Holly behind the bar was a breath of fresh air, so pleasant and eager to please. An asset. The sandwiches were very good and served quickly. Overall the group we were with had mixed feelings about the food and service but I thought ok.

Great for a family meal as there is a very varied menu to suit all. Very attractive place with a nice garden to sit in. Food was very good and arrived promptly. The young waitress was friendly and service was good. Only negatives are that the older lady taking orders could have been more friendly and put a smile on her face (always helps in making you want to return) and the decaf coffee was tasteless.....no excuse these days as more ask for it and you can get very decent coffee. Good overall though.

We have visited this family run country inn & restaurant now since 1995 and can certainly say we shall be back again and again. The food is excellent, plenty of it, lots of choice and friendly staff. A choice of bar, intimate areas in the restaurant, or the vaulted roof area for larger groups to eat in. We came last Saturday with friends in a group of 8 for a 3 course lunch, which, as we wanted, was a leisurely experience. We did not feel rushed as we were still there 3.5 hours later! Thanks to the team at the Gold Cup Inn, we had a wonderful meal in good company

Waited 40 minutes for food to arrive- nothing complicated- scampi and chips( no vegetables requested) and beef and Yorkshire pudding . Scampi and chips ok- except peas were on the plate and it had to be returned to the kitchen to get them removed. Having said that the meal was delicious. Roast beef and gravy lukewarm - couldn’t eat it so I didn’t. Went to pay and explained the problem, but instead of apologising the young waitress made great play of scoring out the beef on the bill. Then appeared 2 minutes later to say that the chef had said the meal was hot when served- it absolutely wasn’t ! Asked if I wanted anything else- on the house. Declined the offer as although hungry, needed to get back to Pocklington for 2.30 and it was already 2.10. It either was not hot enough to start with or sat waiting for the only waitress to serve. Such a pity as we are locals who eat out regularly and really wanted to like and support local businesses

Not sure what has happened, went for a Sunday lunch, the starters were a joke in terms of quality or produce and quantity. The roast was extremely disappointing and looked, tasted and felt like it was all bought in. Roast potatoes, very tasteless, felt like they had been boiled and then shown the oven for a few mins, the meat had been cut into 1” cubes and spread out then covered in what tasted like packet gravy. The Yorkshire puddings were clearly bought in perhaps Aunt Bessies (this was confirmed by the waitress). Felt disappointed, ripped off and like they were using unskilled/semi skilled people in the kitchen.

Friends travelled a long distance to visit us and have lunch out post Christmas, having heard good things about The Gold Cup it was here we came. From entering the building to leaving the whole experience was great. Friendly and efficient service with superb food. One of our party is a smaller eater and was thrilled with the "smaller appetites" menu. Will certainly be visiting again.

I meet here once a month for a small club event and there's always great food - the duck with orange sauce is especially recommended. Good covid processes, cold Guinness on tap as well as local beers and friendly owners.

Lovely beer garden out back, seating out front for quick stops and a proper pub feel inside. Very welcoming and friendly staff, were great with my youngest when we stopped by. Eaten here several times and always enjoyed it, proper pub food. Family friendly but bring some entertainment for the kids because there's no play area. There's some nice riverside walks which lead to the pub and the roads in the area are good for cyclists. Dog friendly in the bar so it's a perfect stop off for dog walks.

Our meal was booked for 19.30 didn't get served until 20.40. The plates were hot but food Luke warm obviously left on a hot plate or something. I had chargtilled chicken with brie and a tomato and basil sauce. Chicken dry no flavour sauce tasted...

We booked in advance, welcomed on arrival. Meal were exceptional. We chose the duck and the gammon. Well worth a visit and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Lovely meal last night although my pie was strange a sort Of flat scone /cobbler top , meat was beautiful but was craving a proper pie oh well shall have some thing else next time Hubby had roast beef dinner he really enjoyed that, all food was piping hot !

The owner was rude and unprofessional to my 80 yr old mother in law when she enquired about a group booking over the telephone. Serious poor customer service issues. We booked elsewhere.

I've been visiting the Gold Cup since I was young, and will continue to do so. Many years down the line its never failed me for the excellent food, Irish Coffee , and Beer. The staff are so obliging, helpful and polite nothing is too much trouble . On visiting today i asked if at all possible I could have pasta ,with spinach, also cheese . Matthew the chef happened to hear my conversation and said he'd put something together for me no problem. When it arrived , it was so very well presented , smelt divine , and tasted so dam good !! I'd just like to say *Thank You * Matthew !

Been going with my family for years and thought I should leave a review, it’s just bloody outstanding. The food is never ever bad I’m talking years of experience, the service is absolutely top notch due to how damn lovely the staff are and generally just a fantastic and genuinely wonderful place to go for an evening meal and a bev. We visited at 5:30pm on a Thursday evening on the off chance of getting a bar meal as the original pub we had chosen was closed due to Covid. We were not disappointed, the staff were lovely and welcoming and there was a real fire roaring away in the hearth to which we quickly made a beeline. We chose Steak and ale pie with chips and scampi and chips, both were very satisfying. We plan to visit again.

Booked fairly last minute but so glad we did. Lovely little pub tucked away on the village of Low Catton on the outskirts of York. There was plenty of choice on the reasonably priced menu the food was delicious, staff were friendly and efficient and couldn't do enough for us. We'll definitely call again when we're in the area and I would highly recommend anyone to pay a visit.

Called in for a snack today (Sunday Lunch) and had Cajun Chicken.The meal was lovely piping hot which you don't get now very often.

Recently moved to Low catton , seems a very peaceful quiet village and so dark on a night you can see the midnight sky , so I thought I would try the local Pub , and I have found my self frequently visiting , Because the food there is cooked to a high standard and the quality of the food is phenomenally good , and the staff are so polite and helpful they all make you feel welcome, it's truly a wonderful experience every time.
