Soup and a cheese scone. Our 'go to lunch' for this holiday and we were very pleased with what we got today! Delicious broccoli and cheddar soup with croutons and a lovely cheesy cheese scone, with cheese on the top AND inside! We will be back (particularly as I spotted the Smashed Avocado on Toast going out to another customer and am keen to try it!).

Went for brunch on a Saturday morning. The smashed avocado on toast was generous and delicious. There is a vast array of high quality baked goods and we came away with a bag full. Ample seating outside with blankets. Dog friendly place. The customer service was friendly and efficient. Wish we had found this place at the start of our holiday. As we were very disappointed with the service and attitude of another cafe on the coast.

We've eaten here about half a dozen times. Both inside and outside areas are attractive and quiet and the service is very quick. There is a good selection of dishes and the coffee is above average. One warning: on our most recent visit I tried the three-cheese toastie: overpriced, tasteless and small. I could discern only two cheeses (orange cheddar being one). However, we will return. And I'll be sure to order something different.

We traveled from Edinburgh by car out to Dunbar and on the way we stopped by for a bite to eat and some coffee. The staff were absolutely wonderful, you couldn’t have gotten a nicer bunch. Politely requested we leave our details as part of the governments new track and trace rules for businesses, we were happy to oblige as we are all adults and understand that this is required within the current circumstances. The building that the coffee shop is situated in, is absolutely beautiful and that alone adds to the many reasons we will be returning! The scones were out of this world, I haven’t tasted another like it. My partner had the lemon curd slice which she described as “heavenly”. It was clear that the staff were extremely proud of the coffee shop and I hope that the owner is extremely proud of them! You guys are doing brilliant. You have three new customers from Edinburgh who are sure to return soon! 11/10 for food & drink, 11/10 for customer service. I will be recommending the smithy to my family and friends.

The Smiddy is just as popular as ever with a lot more well spaced quaint tables and chairs outside (no indoor service at present) and no covered areas. The staff are all wearing masks and paper cups and cardboard boxes are used for food delivered to your table. Contact less payments through a plastic screen. All very strange however the quality of the food and drinks are still of a high standard and it's relaxing place to have lunch or just coffee and cakes. Lovely food, ambience, and service. I was very pleased with my cranberry and brie sandwich: soft bread, just-right-sized serving of crisps, and lovely lettuces -- & not drowned in dressing. It being just 2 days away from Halloween, the interior was already aglow with bits of Christmas decor, lights, and sparkle :). This added to a really nice mood, complemented by the rapport of the two staff members. It was a lovely autumn day (not sarcasm!) and the Smithy was buzzing. All the while we were there, the staff were welcoming -- despite, for example, almost everyone asking 'What's the soup today?', b'c they'd overlooked the wee chalkboard telling them -- and efficient. As a side note about getting to this charming eatery and shop: My hope is that all drivers will slow down for folk like us who were walking along the road (no other option or we'd take it, trust me), having left the John Muir Way in pursuit of a good meal. Thank you to those who did take care, but to those who didn't please do slow down for walkers.

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Went here today for a birthday meal What a total and utter disappointment the quality of the food was very poor. I would have rated it no stars but had to give at least one to continue with the review. The meal I ordered was billed as a triple steak burger, OMG it was awful, when it was served to me the burger was bone dry and very small, over cooked and totally tasteless. There was no burger sauce, (what we were offered was a bottle of ketchup and seriously watered down mayo) there was no onion or cheese only a little piece of stale lettuce and one slice of very thin tomato in the very dry bun. It was listed as being served with rustic chips but I actual found they were nothing more than a handful of frozen skinny fries from a bag. I was charged almost £17 for this which is an absolute disgrace. I've had far better any tastier burgers from McDonald's for a third of the price. My partner had what was billed as peppered chicken which was very poor, served in a skillet which was no deeper than a saucer and it was served without rice which was listed on the menu. The manager came over before it was served and gave her a spoon and we were wondering why you would need a spoon to eat the meal! Then It became apparent when it was served, hardly any chicken and a few bits of pepper and onion and was swimming in some kind of peppered sauce, hence the spoon. This was also priced around £16/17, again ridiculously over priced for what was actually offered. We checked out the menu online before booking a table but when we arrived we were given a totally different menu from what was online. Then to top it all we paid cash and after some time we had to ask for our change from the bill (over £5). When the ki Manager came over he then said "folk normally say just to keep the change " we were Shocked and utterly embarrassed by this comment. What an absolute rip off this place is and we certainly won't be back .

Excellent service. Ordered 2 chicken mystique baguettes with salad and they were ready for me to pick up. Delicious. We order this every time we meet for coffee.
