Winterfield Golf Club in East Lothian

Visited Aunty D’s Cafe at Winterfield Golf Club yesterday during a family trip for the October week. We were so impressed with the service and food that we visited twice in the one day, before and after the golf round! 😅 The staff, Doreen, Emma and Steph were so welcoming and accommodating - Nothing was ever too much trouble. We were a group of 6, mixed ages and dietary needs + our family dog and we honestly had such a great day with amazing food and drink. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back when we are in the area next.

Lovely place to have a relaxing meal with friends or family. There were 5 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had steak pie and asked for extras gravy which was supplied in a small jug and it was proper gravy. Can honestly say it's the best steak pie I've ever had. Staff were lovely and very helpful. I'm heading back with hubby again soon.

Made very welcome by staff. Out on a walk along the coast and called to ask if we could have coffee/cake. Had coffee, tea and scones. All served very pleasantly. Good drinks and delicious scones. Sat in conservatory with fabulous views along the coast. Would love to return for lunch or evening meal. A great pit stop.

After a nice run down the coast it’s nice to stop and have dinner at Winterfield golf club at Dunbar. Food and service first class and the views up the forth are amazing. Always a warm welcome.

Had tea and a scone. Very pleasant.

Took over an hour before we got our average food. When we politely asked about any kind of compensation or discount at the end, they just said ‘well you saw how busy we were’, which was really not very busy at all. All the tables around us had to wait over an hour for their food too. Looking at the other reviews maybe we got unlucky with particularly poor staff today, but we won’t be coming back.

14 of us for an evening meal and it all went smoothly.

Environment was very shabby, food very very average, service lovely. I was very taken aback that the decor was so shabby and the place smelled of neglect.

3 of us went for lunch (2nd time this year that we've visited) use the upstairs restaurant for views that over look Belhaven beach. couldn't fault the food or service 'home made' soup x 2 steak pie x2 - one with chips and one with potatoes. ham salad x1 1 chocolate orange cheesecake (again made on the premises) potato and leek soup - tasty and plenty of veg steak pie - no skimping on the beef, plenty of beef in the pie, great pastry (no soggy bottom!). the pastry had been freshly cooked. - just a great traditional steak. ham salad - plenty of it, 3 good size pieces of ham. good prices and excellent - no complaints on the service and food. they also do a light lunch menu.

The clubhouse is excellent the food was delicious the staff were absolutely fantastic couldn't do enough for you

We've been visiting this establishment frequently for over three years now and it really is the jewel in the crown when it comes to dining in Dunbar, no other eatery comes close. The menu has something for everyone and it's always been cooked to perfection. The staff are warm and welcoming and very attentive. The best of food with the best views across the sea and East Lothian. If you haven't visited then why the heck not? ;)

Being local we come here a lot. The food is always out of this world. The staff are welcoming and friendly . Julie and Kevin are fantastic along with Doreen and other staff members. Highly recommend the bruschetta and steak pie .

Visited Winterfield golf club today and started off with delicious bacon rolls. The lady who served us was welcoming and friendly. The clubhouse felt comfortable and relaxed. We played golf and then had a sandwich lunch in the bar afterwards. It was socially distanced and the four of us really enjoyed our visit and would have no hesitation in returning!

Amazing view onto Belhaven beach for our breakfast, my only complaint would be as a vegetarian the breakfast option of Glenmorgan sausages with the full veggie breakfast is a bit outdated considering the meat free options available these days! Potato and veg sausages paired with hash browns and tattie scones is a bit overkill! Service was fantastic and felt completely safe given the current climate so looking forward to coming back in the future!

Beautiful late February day, we had a good days golf, bacon rolls were excellent, Steak pie was lovely, awesome views looking over to Fife in the sunshine.

Had an amazing time celebrating 2 birthdays our family of 40 had a meal which was delicious not a single complaint. The staff were lovely and Julie could not have done more to make us all feel welcome. Could not recommend highly enough this stunning venue and wonderful staff

We celebrated my husband’s 40th birthday there with a family meal of 23. Our room was set out beautifully and the service and meal was top class. Lots to choose on the mouth watering menu and I cannot recommend the chef enough. Pass on our thanks to all the staff who made it so enjoyable! We will back soon.

Because the restaurant is on the 1st floor and most windows look out onto unrestricted views, this place stands out from most. Combine that with good quality food served by very pleasant staff and you have a very pleasing atmosphere in which to dine. OK, I know you want to hear about the food. Our little group all ate hearty meals and not one tiny grumble came from anyone. I also have to say that the portion size was good. Visually, everything sat on the plate looking pretty and begging to be ate. Whoever prepared the food obviously takes a pride in their work and knows how to cook! Try this place, I know you'll love it.

Went for a family lunch, great choice of food, generous portions and beautifully presented. Made a fuss of my daughter which was lovely, very family-friendly. Good choices for kids menu also. Wonderful views too, overall a brilliant time! Thank u!

Golf is cheap but the course is rather flat and featureless. The greens are good but some of the fairways area bit rough. It is quite exposed and often windy.

We had a superb day's golf here on 21st June. The full Scottish breakfast to start the day was excellent the restaurant lady who served us was really friendly and very helpful.Some may look at Winterfield as being a short course therefore not challenging do not be fooled it is a really tight good course to play.The first is a lovely hole and the back nine holes are great with fantastic views over Bass Rock and the Firth of Forth.The professional shop is well equiped and the guy's in there know their stuff.All in all we have played this course a number of times over the past 10 year's and it's always a pleasure to go back there if your up in this part of the world to play golf it's well worth a visit.

The bar had been updated since I last visited and was under new management. We had the haggis starter which was to die for. The main meals were also excellent. Really friendly staff and a great area to sit and watch the waves outside - seemingly there was a summer house there years ago but it blew down in a storm.

I would like to say i took a bus load of 33 people for high tea ive got to say the food was outstanding the service was fantastic from start to finish nothing was too much trouble for julie and kevin,doreen the cook and head chef made the day by cooking all the lovely food wee will be back thanks again guys x

Friday evening family meal out. Kids 9&3. Service was great; very attentive (with the kids especially, which makes all the difference!). Food was delicious and very high quality. Also, a great job is being done with gradually updating this beautiful building with its incredible views. Would highly recommend :)

A well maintained links golf course with lovely views overlooking the Firth of Forth with Bass Rock as a backdrop. Budget priced, friendly staff. A bit too busy for us having to wait to play most shots. Clubhouse was very tired and requires upgrading. Arrived expecting to have some lunch but found the menu very lacking and ended up with bacon rolls.

Went with an organized group for Christmas lunch. Food was very good, all the usual trimmings and very helpful staff.

I wanted to surprise my husband with a unique setting for breakfast the morning we left Edinburgh and headed down the coast. This place caught my eye online, and I planned our route. It's not far off the main road that hugs the east coast of Scotland. The breakfast was very reasonable and delicious. Lovely views from our table and a friendly server. Quite a contrast to the formality of St. Andrews. We enjoyed the exceptional beauty of the coastline as we walked the grounds.

Had another lunch on Sunday,delicious as usual, this time a friend from BATHGATE, last time from Airdrie ALL LOVED IT AND HOPE TO RETURN. THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT. Thanks, MARY GIBB.

A family group of twelve enjoyed an excellent dinner in the dining room. No other party was eating so it felt that we had exclusivity and special attention. The kitchen comfortably and admirably coped with our large group. The food was as usual delicious and ample. The coastal views were breathtaking on a beautiful summers evening. Mine host Julie managed all of this with her usual calm professionalism and in the absence of convalescing Kevin. Can't wait until our next visit.

I was part of a seabird drawing week that had the Winterfield Club as the base for evening meals and gatherings and morning meetings. We were quite a big group and the staff could not have been more welcome, helpfull and accomodating, they took care of everyones dietary needs and were very accomodating if there were last minute changes. I cant comment on their everyday bar food because they catered for use specifically - but they did a great job, with various needs catered for - gluten free, an vegan and vegetarian. They allocated two nice large rooms for us to use as our evening base. They also allowed us to meet in the early mornings before we headed out drawing. It is in a lovley quiet location, overlooking the bay with great evening sunsets and beach and coastal walks. Thank you to all the staff for looking after us so well. Alice

The course is tougher than scorecard looks. There is only one oar 5, but 8 par 3s, most of which are 200 yards. Great views and friendly bar staff.

This is a pleasant course with some so-so holes (on the front nine) and some tremendously fun holes on the back. A rather silly opening hole greets one on the first tee. Very well kept and very reasonable. Not quite sure about the dining room - was it open or closed? Not terribly inviting. The pro shop lads were first rate.

Visited Winterfield for the first time on the 8th March. It was the first lovely day of the year and perfect for golf - no wind at Dunbar! The views, especially on the back 9 were spectacular! The course was in great condition, considering the amount of snow that had been lying.

Killing time before golfing at North Berwick and stumbled upon Winterfield GC. Fanastic coastal setting and a magic old clubhouse with rooms everywhere, massive ceiling heights and a grand centre staircase. had a beautiful morning tea with complimentary chocolates etc with fantastic service. Only downside was that there didn't appear to be any rooms overlooking the ocean. The golf course, being right on the coast looked to be very interesting

Fabulous afternoon tea at this newly refurbished restaurant. Homemade scones, big dish of fresh cream and jam. Sandwiches and delicious cakes. Highly recommended.

My son learnt Golf here but we went for the first time to my Father in laws wake last summer. They did us proud, lovely reception room , super finger food (so much they kindly wrapped it for us to take back for our evening reception) We are back in the UK and could not wait to try it for lunch. Went here recently for a meal and although the place was very quiet , the food was very well presented and tasty , this was originally a private golf club but friendly staff and good food priced keenly

4 of us enjoyed a great 3 course dinner in the restaurant of this golf club. The food was cooked to perfection and served with aplomb. The bar is well stocked and we imbibed a little including a nightcap in the lounge by the bar. Julie and Kevin (previously mine hosts at Black Agnes Restaurant) have brought their magic touch to this place. We returned in the morning for an excellent breakfast with superb views of the East Lothian coastline.

Fantastic food, lots of choice and served with a welcoming smile, thoroughly recommend Winterfield Golf Club. ( Best ever pepper sauce).

As others have said, the food here is tasty and good value - you get a big plateful for a reasonable price. The service is quick, the staff are friendly and attentive and the views are lovely. The only thing that would improve the experience here I think would be a better choice of vegetarian main meals, but overall it's a great wee restaurant.

I always check out local golf clubs on holiday because they usually serve very decent, affordable grub. Winterfield did not disappoint. We arrived just after 2pm and the staff were just about to head off on their holidays for their first short break after a long, hard summer. But they very decently agreed to serve us. The whole place is a wee bit run down to be fair. It is a council-run golf course and has been neglected a bit. But the new bar and catering team have made good progress in starting to renovate, and the food is tasty, hearty and filling. Thanks to all for a lovely lunch

This is one of the most photogenic places we have ever played. The course is about 25 miles east of Edinburgh on the western edge of Dunbar overlooking the North Sea. The location is a Wow! with an imposing clubhouse sited on the brow of a cliff. But it's totally exposed and we played on a sunny but very windy day.

I played 18 holes early morning at this fine course. The sea views over the Firth of Forth are great and the back 9 are a real links challenge. The 15th green is surrounded by the beach on 3 sides and wonderful to play. Most enjoyable.

Me and my freind visited here for lunch she had the cooked breakfast which was huge and i had the balmoral chicken which was really good service was really good only downside was my coke was really flat but coffe was delish

Went for lunch on Friday with a friend, very nice, loads of space between tables, the girl servers were excellent nothing a problem to them so attentive.

We were well catered for on a recent family visit. In our party there were seven adults and six kids. Nothing was a bother, with great service and food.
