Sign outside stated “lunch menu available”. I assumed that the very expensive short menu in a separate display window was for dinner. Walked in and asked for the lunch menu. Thought it was strange when the same menu was offered on a blackboard but assumed it would be lunch size portions at a lunch menu price. We ordered one main course each. Mine was Aubergine with yoghurt and harissa. A starter size portions appeared, comprising two halves of a small aubergine with a few tiny cubes of Greek cheese and teaspoon of pomegranate seeds, sitting in yoghurt with a couple of spots of harissa paste. £15+ My partner ordered venison cottage pie, which consisted of a disk of mashed potato, two tablespoons of minced venison in gravy and two florets of broccoli. £19+. Mine was nicely presented, the venison less so and service was a little dishevelled. We left hungry. Won’t be back.

We received a voucher for afternoon tea for Christmas and what an excellent present it turned out to be . Delicious sandwiches , scones with cream and jam , tea and cakes . Faultless attentive service and treated ourselves to a glass of Prosecco too . Served on platters as opposed to a traditional tiered stand which I preferred as I could easily see what was offered and felt no obligation to eat in a prescribed order ! A lovely restaurant which we always enjoy and great to see this new venture

Starters included Orcadian scallops, storoway black pudding and apple, or slow cooked pig cheek, mains of seabream and fruits de mer risotto, or sous vide lamb rack, and finally tiramisu or francesco creme brulee. Plus good choice of wines. Everything was absolutely delicious and would definitely recommend!

Food was okay. No cocktail or mocktail menu at the time of visit. But considering the price tag and the type of restaurant they branded themselves, my expectations were slightly higher. The roast tweed valley beef sirloin was very chewy and not properly seasoned. I prefer the taste came from the cooking (original creative work of the chef) and not from the additional pepper that they offered after leaving the kitchen. I also noticed that the portion of the same dish was different from that serving another table. It seemed the kitchen loosely controlled the quality and presentation of their dishes.

We where greeted with a complimentary glass of Champange and Canopies which where delicious, then followed with Venison for the starter and East Lothian Lamb for our main. The restaurant was closed but, in it's place, they were holding a wonderful take away service with the most amazing looking food on display. After purchasing some Cullen Skink soup and some haggis sausage rolls, we went to eat these sitting on the quaint harbour's edge. Faultless. I had the sardines which were beautifully seasoned and turned a simple dish into a delicacy. My husband enjoyed the chicken liver pate with crostini. Then I ordered perfectly cooked pink steak slices over a delicious green salad, and my husband devoured a massive bowl of fresh mussels in a creamy mariniere sauce. Both dishes were served with crispy triple fried chips, and home-made bread. We washed this delightful food down with a bottle of perfectly chilled Laurent Perrier pink champagne. To follow my husband had his favourite "Findlay Family" chocolate mousse, which has been on their family-owned restaurants' menus since 1985, with a stunning late harvest Voigner, and I had a tasty selection of Mellis cheeses. The restaurant is owned by Jack Findlay, who was attentive and charming.

We came across this beautiful restaurant while at an overnight stay in Dunbar. We were looking for a nice place for dinner and after reading previous reviews, we were walking past and just popped in ( it was not properly open yet at that time) and managed to secure the last available table for the evening. We had celebrated our wedding anniversary at a very expensive fine dining restaurant in Edinburgh the previous night which left us quite disappointed. We wish we had celebrated our anniversary at the The Creel instead! The Maitre d' was very welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. He was very helpful guiding us through the wine list which was comprehensive and had a good range of prices including some wines in the upper price range. My starter of whipped goats cheese chicory, poached pears and walnuts was delicious, my husband had local crab, cucumber gazpacho with chilli oil and lime, which was also delicious. Mains, I had French trimmed chicken, and the best dauphinoise potatoes I have EVER had. Hubby had Plaice, with cockle bouillabaisse, he said it was absolutely delicious! I had pannacotta to finish and hubby had mousse au chocolat. Overall the meal was exceptional, atmosphere warm and welcoming, staff attentive without being intrusive and great music in the background at just the right volume. We would travel again JUST to eat here. Mohrag & Uli Fischer

Located near the Dunbar Marina, we had a great time! We should underline the kindness of the waiter, who among other things speaks a few words of Italian because he told us he studied it at school. Both the starter based on chicken liver pâté and the soup of the day taken by my mother were very good, I appreciated the Shetland mussels (which we shared) and, for dessert, the homemade chocolate ice cream was excellent ( and you can hear it!). Fair price for the quantity and quality of each course. I would stay here again!

Since the pandemic, this place seems to found it's footing. We took visitors from the States looking for seafood. The dining room is very small and intimate. The kitchen is pretty open to the diners and it was fun to watch all the activity. The service was terrific. But it is the food that will keep us coming back. Everything was amazing. The menu changes with the availability of fresh seafood and produce. The prawns, the mussels, even the chicken dish were all excellent. But the star was the cucumber gazpacho with shredded crab. WOW!

Excellent meal and highly recommended to those that enjoy quality food. We ate at lunch, having a starter and main. They deviated from the menu for us, having the main mussel course as a sharing starter. Quality mussels and cooked to perfection, great cream and thyme sauce to make this a moreish dish. We both chose the mains special, Grilled Cod with lemon butter and seasonal vegetables. Really nice thick cut of Cod, again, cooked spot on. Compliments to the chef. The maitre d was attentive and his personality made the experience even more enjoyable. We were first through the door for lunch, by the time we left, the place was nearly full. Venison cottage pie was decadent and rich, topped with a ‘cheesey chivey’ baked mash disc topping, accompanied by a small bundle of buttered steamed vegetables. A modest portion however I wouldn’t have managed anymore despite how delicious it was. All the ice cream is homemade, their tablet ice cream is something that would put Lucas in Musselburgh to shame. They also make their own sourdough bread in house, I had a cheddar flavoured loaf. It was still warm to the touch! Must’ve been freshly baked

The look of the restaurant caught our eyes upon visiting this cute little town so we decided to come in for dinner. And oh boy… I think the food was absolutely the most disappointing part of this whole experience. We have ordered a crab starter with lemon and chili, which was tasting only chili. There was no room for any crab or any flavor but spicy. I really enjoy a spicy dish (i like to eat raw chili too), but this dish lacked any other taste. For mains we have ordered a pork fillet and a smoked fish dish. The pork fillet was a fancier sunday roast that lacked any salt basically. On the other hand the smoked fish with leek had all the salt in the world. I needed to drink water after every bite. I think the only item on our table that was actually great was the home made bread. I am saad to say it was a very very disappointing experience. We have been to this place with our baby, which was not a great idea I admit, however the staff turned very cold, once our little one started crying. We tried to wrap it up super quickly. By the end we felt they also rushed us out to the extent that they forgot to give us our coats back. So I needed to quickly remind them. Overall I would not recommend this place, tries to be more than what it is.

Incredible, been a few times now and by far the best restaurant in Dunbar and probably East Lothian. I've yet to find a restaurant I'd rank better in Edinburgh & The Lothians.

Had lovely meal, however felt starters were over priced. Had Venison Carrpaccio starter. Two slices of Venison no bigger than a 10p piece for £12.95. 3 halves of walnut and chestnut mushroom mousse.

Booked up to have a 90th birthday meal out for my dad with 14 family members. Doreen and the team were very helpful both in organizing and in making the day go extremely well. Food was very good, service was great, and the surroundings are very pleasant too. Highly recommended!

We went to the Prestonpans shop today for a few baguettes before we started wrapping christmas presents. We always buy BLT baguettes and a Mexican burger or similar and a few scones. Apparently they don’t sell hot food anymore or so we were told and we ended up with cold bacon strips. It was disgusting. Never thought I’d say this about the filling station as I’ve always gave it as a recommendation and held it in high regard in the past. I cooked my own bacon to put on the baguettes in the end but at £4.80 a time I was rather disappointed. No scones left but I could accept that. I am not sure of the reasons for the no hot food thing, is it to do with a licence or what? Just doesn’t have the same feel to it either. Maybe it’s changed hands? Anyway, we are from further up the country and sadly we won’t make the trip again.

Sent parents there for their anniversary. They said the food and service were both excellent.
