We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.

Our welcome was genuine, the pub was beautifully presented and there was a nice vibe. We enjoyed superb food, which you could tell was all home cooked. The waitresses were polite, efficient and ready to help. The shin of beef was stunning, as were the burgers. Desserts were plentiful and generous portions. The sticky toffee and triple chocolate brownie were delicious. What a fantastic evening. Thank you all.

Myself and my fiancé came to lunch here on 5th February. The service was impeccable from the bar to the waiting staff. We had starters and mains with some nibbles. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely amazing. Having four children, we don’t get out much and I can honestly say that this is the best meal out we have had for years. Nice quiet Monday lunch , child free in a lovely setting. Absolute bliss. Thank you so much

My visit to the lion was a wonderful relaxing and very pleasurable experience. From the moment we walked in the door the atmosphere, service and quality of food was next to none. We had two courses both of which were presented beautifully and the taste and flavours were outstanding. All the staff were friendly and attentive ensuring we had everything we wanted and nothing was too much trouble. The owner Jacqui checked on us a few times and even though the restaurant was busy, she made the time to have a chat with us at the end of our meal. The price was very reasonable and within what to expect for such great food and service. I would recommend if your looking for that somewhere to have a special celebration meal or just a relaxed everyday event, then the Red Lion is the place to go. I will certainly be returning when I next visit from Devon.

Three of us went for dinner on our last night of our narrow boat trip. It was excellent value, the staff were very attentive and the drinks realistically priced. They have an 'over 60's' menu which gives 2 courses for £12 and the food was very good. I highly recommend it.

As a vegan it can be challenging to get a decent food option on some restaurant menus but never have I seen such a poor offering for a meal before. A warm Mediterranean salad consisted of a lettuce and badly chopped red onion, and some sort of dressing; not even an olive or tomato to be seen.Just appalling, not filling, not nutritionally balanced and certainly nothing like a colourful Mediterranean salad and based on the ingredients ridiculously expensive. The dish so lacked any thought and culinary expertise and truly amazing that it could be served as a meal. Very disappointed

The Red Lion has been recently modernised but tastefully. The modern amenities, such as the toilets, have not upset the rural charm of this old pub. We had not visited before but are looking at a number of venues to take our daughter and son for lunch when they come over from Australia in September. So far, The Red Lion is top of the list. The staff are friendly and helpful greeting my wife and I warmly as we entered the door. We opted to eat in the bar rather than the dining room. My wife had the chicken curry and declared it delicious. I had Cajun Chickenburger with hand cut chips and it was also delicious . We followed these with chocolate ice cream and triple chocolate brownie. There are equally delicious. We have two very minor gripes. We asked for water with our meal but it did not appear. We ordered a second round of drinks with our meals but they did not arrive. We were halfway through eating before I had to go and ask for them. These notwithstanding the whole visit was enjoyable.

Very impressed with the choice on the Sunday menu and well priced 2 or 3 course options. I thoroughly enjoyed the Prawn cocktail and the Veggies Wellington was very tasty. My husband was very pleased with his choice of garlic mushrooms as a starter and salmon for his main. The four of us felt the plate size for the very nice choice of accompanying veggies was a little on the small size for us to share. I also felt the size of our table did not allow for the requisite social distancing and we were very pleased no one was shown to the two seater table next to our table as that was extremely close!

I have to honestly say we felt safe and at ease at all times throughout our visit. Everything is put onto a neighbouring vacant table next to you so waitresses have no contact and refrain from leaning over you ect personally I think this is fantastic as it keeping both customers and staff safe at all times. We visited the Red Lion this weekend and wanted to sit in the garden. On arrival we were welcomed nicely and there was sanitiser in place for our use in the bar area. I have visited this establishment several times in the past and it’s always been a pleasure. However, yesterday once we arrived and sat in the garden and ordered our drinks they were delivered by a waitress with the glasses in her hand and as she passed the glass to my husband her hand touched my husband’s hand. I am sure this was totally unintentional but my thoughts are currently around the problems with COVID-19! at this present time with numbers rising daily and that it would be best practice to minimalise personal contact by delivering drinks to the client on a tray. Another concern for us was that we saw several people leave the garden and several people arrive but we never saw anybody sanitise or clean the tables and chairs. Finally we expected for our personal details to be taken for the record however this was not carried out. God forbid if there was an incidence of Covid this couldn’t be traced? I would like to strongly say this is not a complaint it is more giving positive feedback on our observations in the hope that this feedback assists management ensuring customers feel safe in the future.

We booked a table in advance as we were staying at the nearby Premier Inn, our first mini break since lockdown. What an amazing find The Red Lion was. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival, and was politely asked to use the available hand sanitizer before being shown to our table. The downstairs restaurant was arranged perfectly to adhere to social distancing measures, but this didn't detract from the fabulous setting. We were seated at a table for 4 (there were 2 of us), and were served our food and drinks from the far end of the table, so even when being served, social distancing was in place. We ordered the pate (my all time favourite), and my partner ordered pork belly bites, both which were extremely tasty. For our main, I ordered the chicken with pancetta, and my partner ordered BBQ short ribs, both of which were presented beautifully, and were delicious. The beef ribs were a "belly buster", I thought it was a sharing platter when it was served! All in all, we were truly impressed with the food, service, and appreciated the things in place which are necessary in these strange times. This is a must to visit if you can, we felt completely safe and at ease, and left not having to eat for a week.

My husband and I were staying on a short break near Shrewsbury and decided to book a table for dinner here after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to see a busy bar in a pub which is obviously thriving, which is quite rare in our neighbourhood of Surrey in the middle of the week.We did have to wait a little bit to be served as they were so busy, but we prefer that rather than being rushed. I ordered the pigeon breast to start which was lovely, and the duck breast for main course, which was also really well cooked. I booked in advance for our celebratory meal, my daughter's birthday & Father's Day. We arrived in good time & there were several spaces still left in the parking area. We were shown straight to our seats & menus were selected. My husband chose the mushrooms, my daughter chose the grilled goat's cheese, I had potatoe & watercress soup which was tasty, but could have been hotter! Then we plunged into the main course; I enjoyed pork ribs which were tasty & crispy, my husband & daughter chose the turkey which they liked. Extra veg could be ordered, but what we had was plenty! Deserts were a little disappointing, however my husband enjoyed his sticky pudding, I had triple choc brownie which I did not find very yummy. My daughter asked for biscuits & cheese which were not on the menu, this was £9.00. I had a G & T, husband drank a non alcoholic beer, daughter drank water. The whole bill came to £80.00.

Was recommended this pub by local people for a family meal. They fitted us in at little notice and were waiting on our arrival. First impressions were if a well decorated and cosy country pub with a warm welcome. We decided not to have starters but nibbles instead (harrisa hummous with warm pitta, lofts with harrisa mayo, whitebait and mixed olives) and these where more than sufficient. The Marissa hummous had a real kick and everyone loved it. Mains were steak, gammon, seabass, salmon and pie of the day. Everyone loved there meals and the accompaniments were just as delicious. Pie of the day was game,it was packed with meat which was soft and succulent and soft and the red cabbage side had a lovely spice flavour to compliment. We were totally stuffed by this point but as you do 2 of us still had desserts which they loved. We had several glasses wine, beers and soft drinks and braced ourselves for the bill.....how shocked we were! Only a bit over £100 pounds (double checked and everything accounted for!)

My husband and I visited this lovely restaurant at 1830 for dinner on Friday evening. Actually we were so hungry after a two hour drive that we were a bit early, but there was plenty of room for us to be fitted in before our reservation time. I had a soft drink and DH opted for a glass of Shiraz. I started with pan fried scallops with crispy belly pork and black pudding crumb which were cooked to melt in the mouth perfection and the belly pork was super crispy and tasty and the black pudding crumb was just enough. DH chose chicken liver pate for his starter and it came with plenty of toasted ciabatta and a tasty chutney which he enjoyed very much. For my main course I selected Home-made pie of the day with mash, seasonal vegetables and gravy - and what a pie it was! An epic sized chicken and leek pie with the crispiest pastry I’ve ever had! No soggy bottoms here thank you very much! DH had ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce and fries. The onion rings that came with the steak must have won competitions they were so big. He said his steak was cooked to perfection too. After such delicious fare we were determined to fit in dessert and both chose the lemon mousse with shortbread biscuit. The lemony-ness and lightness of the mousse was stunning, and the shortbread biscuit was shortness itself. We each had an Americano to finish – mine white his black. DH considers himself a bit of a coffee connoisseur, and we both agreed it was the smoothest coffee we have ever drunk. Total cost just under £80 before tip. Excellent value for money for top quality, cooked to perfection, full of flavour food. The staff are friendly and helpful and dishes are cleared away quickly which we were impressed with.

We’ve eaten here a few times now as it’s just down the road from where we live. The menu is what you’d expect from this kind of establishment and the pies in particular are very good. Generous portions, the ingredients are very good quality and there’s a lightness of touch to the cooking you wouldn’t necessarily expect. It’s not going to win prizes for originality but for a good meal out it’s a reliable venue. Very nicely refurbished with a separate bar and very friendly, helpful staff who seem to be enjoying their jobs. On site parking is a bit limited but out of hours parking in the school pull in or the adjacent village hall are alternatives. Recommended.

We had an extremely pleasant lunch on New Year's Day and were served brilliantly and efficiently by the waiting staff who friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good, too. If I'm really splitting hairs, the black pudding croquettes needed a twist more seasoning, and the goats cheese tart a few more micro-herbs as garnish, but the chicken liver pate, the sea bass, and the pork belly all delivered bang on point. And at reasonable prices, too. But, chef, can we please have the choice of custard for the sponge puddings? Call it creme Anglaise, if it makes you happy; or Bird's if it doesn't. Regardless, I'll be definitely coming back, if only to see if my request has been heeded. Thank you, Red Lion. (Party of six at 1pm.)

Held our Christmas staff party here this year. We were fortunate to enjoy the upstairs dining room which was decorated like Santa’s grotto whilst giving us our own space to have all sorts of fun! The food was on the money with generous portions - many of our party commented how it was a hard to beat Christmas Dinner! The staff made sure we were looked after brilliantly - we couldn’t ask for any more. The gin shelf pleased many of us too: choices, choices! Thank you Pete, Jackie & the team.

While treating ourselves to a weekend away we realised that this was a very well to do area and the locals had high standards and sometimes higher prices. So we were pleasently surprised by this beautiful balance between pub and restaurant. The barman made us feel relaxed muxing fresh ginger cocktails as we chose our meal in the nook before moving through to the apparently popular restaurant. We chose from the set (2 or 3 course) menu which I think changes weekly perhaps daily. All the food was quick & fresh (and hot) and the service excellent. I would recommend this place to small groups too. Around £25-30 each including drinks, but no wine

Staying locally and found this lovely pub. Friendly welcome, helpful staff. Ample parking including disabled. Great ambiance, tables well spaced out so not banging into other dinners. Food very good, well priced and well presented

On an off chance, we dropped into the Red Lion, we haven’t been there for many years. What a great transformation, friendly staff, good surroundings. The menu had a great range. I had a great salmon dish with asparagus, my sweet a raspberry parfait with mango sorbet. My fellow diner had a great gammon and pineapple with the best chunky chips. We will not leave it so long next time.

Called in on our way home and found it to be a delightful place. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. We couldn't eat inside as dogs weren't allowed, but the garden was perfect. The grass was mown and the flower beds and baskets were delightful. The whole place was clean and tidy, definitely will revisit.

A landlord who, after just a few visits, remembers your preferred tipple - a landlady who’s care and attention in the dining room is both professional and genuine. The staff, all smiles and attentive - I really can’t fault this place. A impressive range of real ales and fantastic food - if you live in Shropshire, please visit this place, as it’s a gem.

My wife and I go regularly and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. All the staff are friendly and helpful especially Jackie and Pete. We had our sons christening on the 17th June and they gave exceptional service and all 65 of our guests expressed delight at the food and venue.

Visited the Red Lion for a much needed bite to eat and pint after running the Shrewsbury 1/2 Marathon. Went for the Sunday lunch of Roast Beef with trimmings, washed down with a Peroni or two. Food was superb and the service from the staff was excellent even though the pub was extremely busy with a Christening.

We were here for my godsons christening this weekend and stayed at the lodge next door. The staff are brilliantly friendly and helpful, all wanting to make our day run as smoothly and happily as possible. The food is excellent quality and the surroundings are very tasteful and bright. The garden was ideal for the children to run around in safely and the bonus of giant jenga was much utilised! Thank you so much for a wonderful occasion. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

So frustrated about this place, have had a number of meals here and there is no consistency. First of all I would like to say that they are always very accommodating and when it’s a Sunday lunch menu they are happy to provide something that’s on the normal menu rather than a Sunday without a fuss.

The burger was nearly 15 quid and came without any salad and with approximately 9 chips. The chocolate brownie was 6 quid and was small and insignificant and came with a small scoop of ice cream, very stingy. The restaurant was empty when we arrived bar one other family but for some mysterious reason it took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive and there was no apology for the length of time it took when it did arrive. The food was however delicious and the setting is great. It is a lovely pub.

My second time here and the food was fabulous again, I had the pork belly and it was absolutely brilliant. The service was faultless, the only thing that is preventing me from rating 5 stars, is the way the manager (jackie I think her name was) speaks to her staff, I found her tone unnecessarily rude and ungrateful - especially to the younger ones. Despite this, the waitressing and food was delightful and I will be returning again - hopefully with the service gaining the respect they are due

Just had another fantastic meal at the red lion. The food,as always, was amazing and the staff were as attentive as ever. This is always our go to place for food. I had my favourite starter of pate and my wife had garlic mushrooms. For main course My wife had the roast beef while I tried the pork belly. We tried each other’s food and both agreed that they were excellent. All this was washed down with a couple of glasses of wine and a pint of shandy. All in all a great way to spend a Sunday lunchtime. We will be back as soon as we can.

Lovely setting, pub really nice, staff could not be more helpful but the Sunday lunch was a disappointment. Not enough veg and asked for 2 extra roast potatoes and was charged 50p for them, it's not the money when you pay nearly £45 for lunch 50p is neither here or there but the fact they felt that was appropriate is the real let down. For this reason will will not be visiting again for Sunday lunch

Visited with family during the week for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the special of the day (Pene Vodka). The chef recommended it and I was not disappointed. The service was also very good. Definitely would recommend. It is worth a visit if you are in the area!

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.
