This is a truly lovely place with a nice atmosphere. I asked them to host a wake, and the owners were incredible- unbelievably helpful, from adapting the menu to providing a television, right down to returning lost property. Food was brilliant too, and the prices good. Can’t recommend enough.

The Red Lion was the local pub to where we were staying in our caravan for 3 weeks in August / September 2024. A very friendly pub, much frequented by the local farming community. We enjoyed drinks as well as an excellent Sunday lunch. In fact the lunch was of such a high quality that we promptly booked for the following week. One evening the pub held a charity sheep shearing and barbeque event. The entire evening was entertaining and we were very glad that we were able to attend this annual event.

This is a hidden gem of a plain, country pub. The staff and guests are friendly and welcoming. The beer, from Wye Valley Brewery, is perfectly kept and served. There is plenty of seating and often the wood-burning stove is pumping-out heat from a large fireplace at the one end of the main bar. Toilets were spotless and well maintained. There is no food served on Mondays but the menu features locally sourced meats and veg. This is not a fancy gastro-pub but a well run, inexpensive, comfortable country pub that is well worth finding down the narrow country lanes.

Disappointed to find on arrival that this wasn't dog friendly. We had been told you could take your dog. Only to find on arrival the 2 'dog tables' were benches in the car park. Not a great option. Not every pub has to welcome dogs but please state this clearly.

Dropped in with our dog for some dinner. No problem being served food at the picnic table out front with the dog which was great. Deep Fried Battered Mushrooms and the Garlic Bread with Cheese starters were top class, the Special Chicken Masala and the Steak & Ale Pie were outstanding. Very reasonable price and service with a smile, topped off with a very nice local clientele added to the experience. If you ever have the opportunity then go, go now!!

The young waitress did an excellent job looking after us all night. Never too pushy but always on hand . 4 of us had pate starters which was really good, the other 2 had garlic mushrooms which were also very good. For mains the steaks were cooked lovely as were the chips. The cajun and fajita were also enjoyed. The gammon was enjoyed although a little over cooked. Sweets were polished off to end a good night. Star of the show was the girl on the bar who was bubbly and fun and looked after us really well. Great night give this place a go. Prices reasonable as well.

The Red Lion changed hands a couple of years ago and we hadn't met the new owners until last Sunday. We went for lunch with another couple. It was great to have a pint in a pub again - very well kept beer too. We all enjoyed our lunch and the licensees were very friendly and efficient. We enjoyed it so much that we returned yesterday with a different couple. Same experience. On both occasions we ate inside - very well spaced out tables and lots of fresh air circulating. We could have eaten in the garden either in a marquee or outside it. I like this pub a lot - especially so as we had our wedding reception buffet there and have fond memories of the day.

First of all my wife and I have visited The Red Lion at Longden Common on a number of previous occasions. Following a conversations with our dining colleagues we were informed that The Red Lion at Longden Common had been renovated and opened with a new chef in residence. Enquiries revealed that his name was Sam Hill and he had previously been employed at a large private residential establishment in Shropshire. On Sunday 5 May 2019, having made a Sunday Dinner reservation over the telephone we arrived at The Red Lion at Longden Common at 1300 hours in company with our friends. We were shown to our table in the conservatory (great views of the surrounding countryside - a true rural setting). The waiting staff (Becky) was very attentive, polite and took our drinks and meal orders. The drinks arrived and shortly afterwards our starters arrived, we had ordered garlic mushrooms. The sauce was amazing and the mushrooms cooked to perfection with just a hint of garlic. (The alternative starter was cauliflower soup which looked delicious). We all ordered Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puddings off the menu. The mains arrived about 15 minutes after we had demolished the starters and we all agreed that the timing was perfect. I had four large slices of roast beef cooked to perfection, roast potatoes (lovely and brown but not crisp or soggy - perfect), boiled potatoes, leeks in a cheese sauce, mange-tout, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots and peas + a dish of suede & potato mashed. Two boats of gravy which was very tasty and of perfect texture. The waitresses were very attentive and at the conclusion we had a short rest. Becky brought the desert menu about 15 minutes later and we apologised to Becky but we all agreed that we had eaten sufficient food of an excellent quality that we couldn't possibly digest any more. However our male friend decided that he would have the steamed sponge pudding, which he said was very good. Coffees were offered by Becky, but we declined. We continued to confer in the restaurant for a further twenty minutes. There was no pressure for us to vacate the restaurant and we left at 1420 hours completely sated!! We paid the bill which for four persons was less than £14.00 per person. I was so impressed that I personally thanked the chef Mr Sam Hill for such an excellent Sunday dinner. We will certainly visit this establishment again.

3 of has lunch here today, fairly quiet. We ordered 2 burgers and 1 sausage and chips with a side salad. We thought they would be "light bites". The burgers proved more than enough for the two ladies, tons of chips, nice salad, great burgers with bacon, cheese and so on! The sausages were OK, not brilliant, but tons of well cooked chips and the side salad was the best I have ever eaten with a standard pub lunch, cold, crispy, several types of lettuce, green peppers, cucumbers, pea shoots and all so fresh and the salad was just £2!!!!! Service was a bit slow, but everything was cooked fresh for us and well worth the wait. We will visit again, it's great quality for pub food and very reasonably priced. Small menu, basic pub food, but all cooked from fresh. I'll be back to try their fish and chips. A good experience, very pleasant owners who have been in for less than a year, I'll support them!

On Sunday 29th October 2017, my wife and I accompanied with two friends went to The Red Lion at Longden Common, Shrewsbury. I had previously booked a table for four people for 1300 hours the previous week. Upon our arrival we greeted by the Rachel, the landlady who really made us feel at home. We shown to our table in the conservatory. I noted that there were very few empty tables in the restaurant (usually a sign that the food is good). Drinks were ordered and shortly afterwards a very presentable young lady took our meal orders. I ordered white bait as a starter, followed by lamb shank. My wife and friends ordered potato & leek soup followed roast beef with all the trimmings. The white bait was served on bed of salad and was very good. The lamb shank was excellent (I was informed that the beef was also excellent). The vegetables were plentiful and four separate gravy boats (three containing beef juices and mine contained juices from the lamb shank). We asked on a number of occasions if we would like more vegetables or gravy. My friend and myself are big eaters and we could not eat all the vegetables, although they were well cooked and delicious i.e. cabbage, cauliflower, peas, kale, carrots, roast potatoes, and boiled new potatoes. Following a short break we ordered trifle which turned out to be a creation produced by Rachel. It was delicious, I won't spoil it by trying to describe it. You must try it for yourself!! An excellent meal which prompted me to ask for the chef (something I have never done before). Two very nice ladies appeared from the kitchen and introduced themselves. I thanked them for producing such a very tasteful and filling Sunday dinner. It was truly a gourmet experience. It won't be long before we visit again. Well done Rachel and your staff.
