We stayed overnight here in our camper van with Britstops and enjoyed and evening meal in the inn. It’s a precious little place with delightful decor. The staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the Teryaki salmon and peppercorn chicken breast. Delicious generous portions We’d definitely recommend it, especially after a long day visiting Vindolanda, the Roman army museum and Hadrian’s wall. A great pit stop

We (4 couples) stayed here for a night while hiking Hadrian's Wall Path (booked by Hillwalk Tours). The owner was very prompt in transferring us from and to the Path (about a mile). The dinner and breakfast there were excellent. We also arranged for bag lunches for our hike the next day, also very good.

We met family here and had a wonderful experience. Set in lovely grounds we were greeted warmly by Harry and the decor is superb. We had a lovely meal from their extensive menu which was delicious and served by Harry promptly and with welcome humour and politeness. We all had the delicious Black Pudding & peppercorn sauce which is an excellent starter. On our next visit to Hexham we will be back!

The Sunday lunches here are the best . I went yesterday with my husband . We had the prawn cocktail for our starter. This was huge but amazing. We both went fot roast pork with stuffing and crackling . The vegetables were lovely but the gravy was incredible. My husband then had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. I couldn't fit another thing in apart from a lovely glass of white wine xxx He said it was also delicious. The decor is cozy and the staff were lovely and friendly. The young man who served us was so helpful and made us feel so welcome . My new favourite place on a Sunday from now on .

We popped out last minute on a Thursday with this pub-come-bistro highly rated. Had a lovely meal and pint. The steak and ale pie was like no other I’ve had! Besides now not being able to move as it was a fair old size, it was tasty and tender served with mash, veg and gravy (chips also available). My wife had the garlic king prawns which she really enjoyed. A pint of local pale ale was one of the better pints I’ve had in the area as well. One final bonus, Thursday seems to be quiz night! It was a silent quiz so not intrusive to our dinner and chat. The quiz master also made us feel very welcome and even gave us quiz sheets despite not entering the quiz. What a nice evening out.

Stayed here for one night when walking the Hadrian’s Wall Path. The bar / restaurant was great with a nice selection of local real ales and a good ‘pub grub’ menu. The full English breakfast in the morning was also good - and huge. My room was nicely appointed and with working heating/ radiators which was very welcome in the slightly unseasonable chilly weather. The only downside was the shower which was either red hot or freezing cold. The best bit was the super friendly service all the way through from arriving to departure. And Gary the host, very kindly gave me a lift back up to the start of the next stage of the walk which was very welcome and unexpected.

No lighting outside so you can't see where you are going. We waited 30 minutes for drinks to arrive and 50 minutes for food. Very very slow service. There was only 2 other couples in so they were not busy. When notified them of my fish allergy told that they actually cooked and fried food such as chips in the same oil as the fish as they don't have separate fryers - that is totally unacceptable!!. Wine we wanted and menu item we wanted were not available. No atmosphere, initially had nice background music but stopped and not restarted. Used glasses not cleared from the table. Ordered a ribeye steak medium rare that came tough and overcooked and looked grey. My friends food wasn't very hot. My desert of ice cream with hot expresso was terrible. Chef/owner came out when I asked to see him in filthy trainers, shorts and tshirt. To be fair he took the bottle of wine and my dinner off the bill but it was a very disappointing experience.

We spent the night here on November 9th. The room was lovely. Very warm and cosy with a lovely spacious bathroom. It had an external entrance through patio doors which meant it was idea for us to take our dogs. We had dinner at the bistro. The food was excellent and the service was warm and friendly. There is a ruined castle on site which was of great interest to us and made this location even more interesting. Breakfast was cooked to order in the morning by the owner who chatted to us while we ate. A very friendly and entertaining character! All in all a very lovely stay. Would definitely recommend. The only downside was that the WiFi connection was a bit erratic but that’s a minor thing. We will definitely visit again.

We stopped off at Blenkinsopp Castle for the night whilst passing through with our motor home in March and had a fabulous meal served by great hosts and their equally lovely staff. So today when we knew we’d be passing again we telephoned ahead to ask if we could park for the night again and book a table again. We were warmly welcomed once again along with our two Border Terriers (it’s a dog friendly venue), the food was excellent again and the place is not just clean but pristine. The locals in the bar are friendly folk and the Majestic and friendly Benson is the largest German Shepherd I’ve ever seen was in with his owner again. Absolutely 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Please read this before booking - It’s clear when reading this establishment’s reply’s to every comment that isn’t 5 star you should give this place a wide berth. The replies to their customers coments that you read are just a fraction of the “service” you’ll be unfortunate enough to encounter if you decide to spend any money here. Unprofessional & aggressive waiter and head chef who clearly can’t take any feedback. The worst dining experience ever - before you reply with a sarky comment that you think is acceptable - as the chef appears to be the owner it’s her way or no way - such a bizarre evening ruined by this unprofessional, defensive team. I’d rather eat a McDonald’s before you suggest it 👋🏻

**AVOID AVOID AVOID - OTHER COMMENTS FROM OTHER REVIEWS ON RUDENESS OF STAFF ARE ACCURATE** Can't comment on rooms (thankfully wasn't staying as a guest) but my experience in the restaurant was horrendous. I have never been in an establishment where 3 members of staff have proceeded to argue with me and completely embarrassed my partner and I in front of others diners. We were then summonded for questioning by an extremely rude and aggressive chef who spoke to me like a child. You can tell by the owners responses to other negative reviews they can't take any criticism. Will never ever ever come back here!!

Do not be fooled, ‘Blenkinsop Castle’ be aware, is located next to a Residential Retirement Park ………….. imagine our reaction after a long journey north, not a room in a turret but ………… That said, we reserved our judgement after being pointed to a room, off the car park. Our tray of ‘refreshments’ offered us one coffee carton and 3 bags of tea! Told that the only dinner booking we could have was 8pm. On the surface, the room interior looked ok – no chair, no desk and a s shower whereby the user was colder coming out than going in! All that said, the dining room was extremely comfortable and the hosts generous in their hospitality.

Just got back from staying at The Blenkinsop Castle Hotel. Apoligies for long review as i can't say enough about how fab our stay was.As lifelong dog owners, when places say they are "dog friendly" that can vary. This hotel certainly is dog friendly and our border collie Ben, who doesn't like to be out of his comfort zone, also totally enjoyed his stay. He made new friends including Benson and he was very relaxed staying there.Great hotel, lovely stay and fabulous food. As vegans we were very well catered for, at breakfast and on an evening. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and very friendly and its just an amazing place all round. The safety measures they have put in place are great, we felt very safe staying there and well done to all.We had a lovely relaxing time there, in the bar on an evening, the locals were very friendly and we will be certainly returning. For us a place has to be exceptional for us to want to return, and this place is exceptional in every way.Thank you so much for a lovely weekend, we were ready for a relaxing weekend and even the rain did not spoil our stay.See you again soon!

This was a highlight of our recent visit to Northumberland. It is an atmospheric inn and the staff and the owners were very kind to us. We had been out on a walk on the Penine way, and we were more than an hour late for our booking because of the boggy paths on the moors, and starving. They all kindly kept working late to serve us a delicious meal with freshly made ingredients. It was also nice that they had time to chat after we had eaten. They were also very helpful with Covid precautions and gave us the option to sit on our own with very good ventilation in a lovely garden room at the back.

We arrived at 7.30, on time, for dinner on 12 Sept. Waitress seemed a little disconcerted by our arrival and asked us to go into a side room off the hallway. We thought we were waiting for our table to be ready, which would have been fine, but on asking the waitress she said there was no room in the bar/bistro for us. We would have to eat here. We said we would as there was no hope at this time of getting a table elsewhere (Saturday). To be honest it was dismal, I can only describe it as a playroom/come overspill room. On the table in the corner was a plastic mayo bottle, brown sauce, tomato sauce and vinegar bottle. There was fake turf under our feet. We ordered immediately and planned to eat and run. However after an hour there was no food. We went to pay for our drinks and tell the staff we were going. Sadly there was no apology, but they didn't take our money for the drinks. I don't know what went wrong here - understaffed? disorganised?

We stayed on 13th August for 1 night whilst walking the Pennine Way. The room was clean and very nicely decorated with a large bathroom and private terrace. We had dinner as a family in the restaurant which was brilliant; high quality food and very generous portions (we had the mornay, pie, gnocchi). The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating the whole stay and even cooked breakfast for us at 7am in the morning so we could get away quickly. Very well done full English. No complaints and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for the 2 Nd time on the 1st of August. Our room was very clean and well decorated. There was a lovely enclosed outside private decked area off the room which was lovely. The whole place is also dog friendly which is really nice. We had a lovely evening meal. I had the steak pie which was full of lovely tender steak. My dad had a steak which he says d was one of the best he has had in a long time. The ambience of the restaurant is lovely and the serving staff were friendly. Carol and Gary are great hosts and provide a welcoming place to stay , eat and drink. We will be visiting again soon. Well done everyone at the Inn as it has been such a difficult time for small businesses. Keep up the excellent service you offer.

If others views are accurate I must be easily pleased. My experience was great I stayed for just one night. On arrival I was taken to my room and given an explanation we’re everything was and when food is being served. Food was excellent on all three sittings we went too. Great room. And was so quite we had a great nights sleep. Thank you for an amazing experience.

My impression was that this was in a Castle. The website gallery also displays crafted plates of fine looking food. Enticing....Driving through a ‘park home village’ to get to the Castle was, um, unusual. The restaurant wasn’t actually in the castle but a modern externally decked addition. I haven’t seen a restaurant with astroturf flooring before; another unusual addition. It’s just post-lockdown so allowances should be made. However, if you aren’t serving draught Ale from the pumps, your food appears to have come from the freezer, you admittedly don’t have a chef yet and your Sunday Lunch vegetarian option is the “roast without meat but an extra Yorkshire “ ; then perhaps you’re not ready to open to the paying public. Food quality was on par with lower-end chain pubs. Ambience was absent.Truly a surprise, in many ways

Can't believe the few diners who have complained about the service! My guess is that they hadn't booked and probably just turned up at the busiest time! I have always had excellent food and service here! The staff always make you feel welcome and are attentive throughout your dining experience.Sometimes you might have to wait a little while, but the chef cooks real food and NOT fast, microwaved rubbish. If you want fast food, might I suggest Macdonald's?Needless to say, weekends will always be the busiest time at any restaurant. The fact that this lovely Inn is always so well patronised speaks volumes to those who make a hobby of nitpicking on TripAdvisor.Lady Chatelaine

Eaten here several times over the last year and always had a good meal however our latest visit was far from what we’d expected. The service was very slow, we actually felt we’d been forgotten about. The roast beef was tough all in all it wasn’t a pleasurable experience. Sadly we won’t be back.

I have a caravan near to Blenkinsopp Castle. and it was a spur of the moment to go for lunch, My wife is gluten free so has to be particular what she eats, on arrival there ws no gluten free menu so we explained the situation to the staff and they could not have been more helpful so the lunch turned out to be very good.

Went for a meal with friends tonight for a birthday. We all give our order and I wanted a special but with hand cut chips not mash. My dish arrived with mash and I said to the lady that I never ordered mash I asked for chips. She then said they never had any left but I could have fries which I didn't want and I dont like mash. I asked why she never said she had none left when I ordered and she said oh we did when you ordered but haven't now. So she then offered meal free of charge which was lovely for them to do. After our food we were wanting dessert but it took the lady over 15 mins to bring menu but in the mean time the table beside us got there food and surprise surprise there was hand cut chips on theres. When the lady then came back to ask if we wanted desert I asked her why the other table had hand cut chips when she told me there wasn't. She said oh they had to blanch some more there is a bowl of chips if you want them. I'm really disappointed as we were all looking forward to comeing for a meal and were thinking about haven another birthday meal there soon but after tonight we will not be back.

My husband and I visited the castle one evening and it turned out to be steak night. The place was very quiet when we arrived so that should have been a sign. They also appeared to be understaffed. We ordered drinks, a coke for myself and beer for my husband. My glass smelt very badly of beer and did not even appeared to be washed well, they kindly brought me a new drink but it was not coke, not even sure what it was but it tasted very cheap and had no fizz. Then the food came .. we both ordered steak. My husbands steak was sadly still mooing on the plate and he does not even mind a rare steak but this was another level. It was sent back to be cooked further but that still was not enough. The quality of the steaks were not great either. Nothing on the plate was special and sadly I could have made it better at home. For the amount of money that was spent, it was just appalling. The staff were kind but not very understanding and we will definitely not be returning.

We always have Christmas lunch for our staff and this year we chose the Blenkinsopp Castle Restaurant. I am glad we did. From the outset we were warmly welcomed by staff. Before our meal we were given a Gluvine drink which set the tone for the whole meal. The 3 course Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings was excellently presented and all our party said that it was the best Christmas dinner they have ever had. When we finished our meal we thanked the chef and staff for what had been an excellent Christmas Lunch memorable day out.

Booked in for 3 nights last weekend. Had the most amazing time thanks to the hosting and the food. Quite possibly the best Sunday lunch I've ever had ( and I've had lots). Also the breakfast was outstanding. From the hearty full English, all local of course, to the little extras put out and we called l could alter anything we wanted off the menu. They even cooked sausages for our dogs, no cold leftovers. The pub area was really beautiful, decorations up, fire burning and full of people enjoying themselves. The staff and owners were magnificent, going above and beyond for everyone. We also met some locals and they were so friendly. Everyone made us feel so welcome. The rooms were top notch too. With everything you need. We brought 2 border collies and we had a small decking area outside our room so we could clean them off. It makes it really easy for dog owners. Overall the whole experience was fantastic. We wanted to return for boxing day but it is nearly a 400 mile round trip. Who knows, if I drop enough hints then it may happen. However we will definitely be returning, to stay on our own, with our parents and in the campervan. Thanks for what had been the best weekend away in a long time and huge shout out to your chef. Amazing food. We will kidnap him next time

Listed at £41 booked it and chose pay at property- I can only imagine that if I booked on the night I would have kept my price of £41 however the next day I received an email stating that the price was actually £81 and not £41 after we had already booked. Presumably because they assume it’s going to be more busy and they could make more money that way I don’t know but now we cannot go away for the weekend now as we cannot find a hotel in a suitable place on our small budget of £45 - £50 for our activities and just wanted a nice relaxing weekend away after having a terrible time. So thank you for your false advertising and trying to get us to pay more than we booked for.

We cannot speak highly enough of this place! Had a free camper van stop and enjoyed a meal which was sensational. The pie was home cooked, hot, fresh and plentiful! Lamb likewise. The owners and staff were friendly and this was a joy of a stop over. Wish we could have stopped longer but we will be back!!!

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
