Haven't been here for several years so decided to try lunch. Both my wife and I opted for the Christmas dinner. The quality was generally ok, but the portions were tiny. I literally had 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of parsnip, 2 small quarters of roast potato, 3 sprouts, 1 mini pig in blanket, a tiny stuffing ball and 2 wafer thin slices of turkey! I guess the price was reasonable, but to be honest I'd have been much happier to pay a bit more and feel full! The staff were lovely and the views are amazing. Not sure if the mini portions are specific to the XMas dinner, so might give a normal meal one more try.

I've eaten here regularly over the years but the most recent visit for lunch was disappointing and the food standard has dropped. Couldn't fault the staff or service, but the meal was wanting. The beef was very chewy, the plate overloaded with very thick gravy and the yorkshire pudding burnt.

It's an amazing setting, and the staff are very helpful and welcoming. The food was good, and a lovely breakfast. The room was clean and tidy, if slightly dated in places. Great Value for Money - We would stay again. The A68 is relatively quiet, especially at night, and it's set back slightly, so no issues with traffic noise.

We visited after travelling around weardale looking for a pub but finding none. I was really impressed by the menu and specials, and chose a kids fish and chips. My sister had the steak sandwich and my father had a Brie and cranberry Sandwich. Huge portion size and so much flavour - I’ve been dreaming about the garlic mushroom steak sauce since! We opted to have dessert too - sticky toffee pudding which was fantastic. The things that really stood out were how incredible the staff were. The card machine was not working and it was quite busy but the staff weren’t phased at all. They were just so friendly and welcoming! Also board games and cards available to play which is a really nice touch. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The customer service is just perfect, exactly what is required for pubs these days. Perhaps the Anchor at Whittonstall could take a few tips on how to have such wonderful staff who are genuine and friendly! Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you, for a really special meal!

On booking a room at this inn, I asked if they could purchase flowers on my behalf as it was our 55th wedding anniversary. To our great delight we found our room decorated with balloons, banners and rose petals. There was a complimentary bottle of fizz - as well as the flowers I had requested. When we went down to dinner they had decorated our table with rose petals and poppers and an anniversary banner. The welcome we received from Natasha, David and their staff was warm and friendly . Our 3 course dinner was delicious and so our celebrations continued. A peaceful , comfortable night's sleep completed a perfect stay.

Attended Lesley and Kevin's lovely wedding on 20th January 2024 and was so impressed at the way the staff went out of their way to make sure the event went without a hitch from start to finish. Knowing the layout of the building, I was interested to know how things would be managed as it is split into 4 areas. As it happened, both the afternoon reception and evening party couldn't have been planned any better, catering for a sit down 3 course meal (which was top notch) in the restaurant, later replaced by a disco/karaoke and dancing plus quieter rooms to enable conversation and catching up with family and friends. All in all, it was a superb wedding venue with excellent staff, exceptional food and brilliant service. Would definitely recommend. Congratulations and thanks again to the bride and groom xx

We really fancied a fish and chip lunch during our visit to Alnwick but didn't know of anywhere to get any - then we came across Carlos. We both had the meals that came with a 'side' (how American is that?), bread & butter and a drink. Every aspect was brilliant - thin tasty batter, plump fish, (homemade?) tartar sauce and gorgeous chips. The mushy peas were mega too. Unusually the bread was from a Tiger loaf which really went with the food. The food came to the table piping hot and stayed hot to the end. A fresh slice of lemon too. The tea was a bit strong for our liking but it's better than being wishy washy I suppose. We eat fish & chips fairly regularly and these were among the best. Highly recommended.

A real all season Pub that embraces events and includes outdoor seating for alfresco dining if the weather permits. A wonderful place alongside theTyne that should not be overlooked..
