Beautiful cafe with lovely selection of savoury and sweet foods. The tea cosies were a great touch!

An amazing cafe, unique and beautiful. Interesting furniture, loads of plants and pictures around the walls. Visited today for the first time. Double espresso was phenomenal as was the rocky road. The coffee cup intrigued me so much that while drinking my espresso I found one on eBay and bought it. I cannot wait to visit again.

Nice place, good food, excellent service

What an absolutely gorgeous café. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and comfortable. All the staff were so lovely and accommodating - they went above and beyond to meet customers' needs, we even got to try an extra bagel. The coffee was delicious - made very well and beautifully strong. The bagels tasted incredible - all fresh ingredients, and I couldn't believe they were gluten-free. It was so nice eating somewhere safe for coeliacs. I certainly recommend for anyone visiting Hexham.

First time I’ve visited. Lovely cosy feel, very relaxing and pleasant staff. Rainy day in Hexham so unfortunately couldn’t sit outside in the garden seating area, hopefully next time. Good coffee and very tasty ham bagel. My only criticism is that service for my second latte order was very slow and as they weren’t very busy at the time of my visit, I’m uncertain why this was the case, but hey we all have off moments - this most certainly wouldn’t put me off visiting again.

My first visit was just for a latte, I returned to have what I'd say is, the best bagel I've ever tasted. The breakfast bagel is amazing! Both times I sat in the garden which in the sunshine was lovely.

Lovely cafe in the centre of Hexham yet it feels like a mini oasis of tranquility. The cafe is nicely laid out and has a pretty outside space for sunny days. The staff are friendly and the food is very good. The cake selection looks wonderful but sadly didn’t have room after my delicious sandwich. Would highly recommend.

This is probably the only cafe in Hexham I hadn’t visited, so when I heard it was reopening, I felt I had to try it. The café itself is nice and cosy, and there’s also a courtyard which I imagine is great on a sunny day. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. I opted for a bagel, which was delicious. I’ll definitely be visiting again.

Lovely coffee, great atmosphere and staff. Love all the plants! The chocolate and cherry brownie is beautiful and they may have converted me to fruit in brownies!

Called in here today and what a lovely place to find! Offering a selection of gluten free products it was hard to pick! After ordering I was presented with an ample pot of peppermint tea together with a quirky tea cosy to keep it hot, which was very handy as I worked my way through a cheese and jalapeño scone and still had room for a wonderful slice of carrot cake. My other half also managed a scone and 2 americanos together with a slice of blueberry cake. Fabulous coffee, homely surroundings and we brought more cake home to enjoy later. Will definitely be back!

Went in here with a group of friends today. I was on crutches and immediately helped with cushions for foot etc Staff so friendly, lovely retro decor, delicious coffee and food. All round fab. We will be coming here for our weekly meetups. Run don't walk to The Garden Coffee place x

New owners have certainly made this more inviting and pretty! Good coffee and bagels. Menu quite limited but hopefully that’s only temporary, could do with some salad/crisps to go with the bagels.

Staff are lovely but what put me off was the food getting heated up in the microwave. I had soup and pudding, then went to the toilet and no running hot water.for this we would never returned.

Came in late afternoon with our one year old daughter. Service was incredibly kind and food was fast.

A delightful little coffee house. The coffee is excellent and food delicious. Plenty of seating and very friendly staff make your stay a pleasure.

Had a lovely lunch here during a weekend away to the Corbridge/Hexham area. Menu simple but very tasty. We both enjoyed our toasted sandwich and sandwich plus scone/crumble. Very reasonably priced and friendly staff.

Had jacket potato with egg mayonnaise. The potato was cooked in the microwave and then the potato and egg mayonnaise filling was reheated in the microwave. The result was disgusting. Warming the mayonnaise resulted in the sugars and vinegar in the mayonnaise coming out which was not pleasant at all. The carrot cake was very good though. Even though the carrot cake was good I won't be returning.

Looked like a nice place but hugely disappointing on every level. Singularly the worst cup of coffee I've ever had. Searing hot, burnt my tongue. When I queried why the coffee was made with boiling water I was told if I didn't want hot coffee, I should have asked!!! Tiny slice of mediocre cake and the worst presentation on a toasted cream cheese bagel i have ever seen with a scraping of cream cheese. Also had to ask for more sugar (one tiny sugar lump supplied). No heating on at all (the place was freezing), no hot water and a rubbish hand dryer in the toilet. Very very disappointed, would certainly not recommend to anyone and will never go back.

This place was a find. Coffee and tea were lovely, snack very nice. Staff friendly and helpful very relaxed atmosphere. Crochet animals for sale and my husband and I couldn't resist. Value for money. Well worth a visit can't wait to visit again. Easy access if disabiled. Toilets clean.

Lovely wee coffee house. Service is friendly and efficient, cakes and food, delicious. Clean comfortable, cosy surroundings. Although we don't have small children, we have noticed the staff are very welcoming to families. Best cup of coffee I've had for a long time. One of our favourite places when visiting Hexham.

3 of us visited on 15th August. Weather fine to sit in the garden. Lovely greeting on arrival and food and coffees were delicious. Had a very pleasant 2 hours in the serene Garden Coffee House.

I visited this attractive cafe yesterday with my Auntie. I have to say the fruit scones were absolutely delicious and were served with plenty of butter. When my coffee arrived I realised I had forgotten to ask for decaffeinated and the lady insisted on changing it for me - she was so kind. The cafe is a peaceful spot and given the right weather, there is plenty of seating in the outside courtyard. As the day was grey and rainy with strong gusts of wind we took advantage of the warmth inside the cafe! There are many cafes in Hexham but this one is warm with a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. The very reasonably priced menu is small but varied.

Lovely homecooked food as always!

Popped in for a light lunch, lovely food, staff were very helpful and prices reasonable. Very cute area but lacked atmosphere. At the time we visited it wasn’t very busy so you could hear a pin drop, a little background music would have done the trick :) other than that a lovely little place.

A wonderful little cafe in the back streets of Hexham, been around for so long now even I can't remember the day it opened! Lovely coffee, nice staff. The only concern I have is that it's time to retire the old furniture on the outdoors, they are so old and out of date they aren't fit for the modern day. However they offer plenty of cushions to help!

Fantastic cafe, went for a visit to Hexham with my wife first stop was the coffee house. Lovely location on the top of the bank behind the old gaol. Very nice latte, friendly service, immaculate dining area and the prices are fair. Only downside was two Karens complaining about there drinks to get them for free. Everyone else in the coffee house seemed very pleased with there orders. My wife even bought some hand made knitted toys they had on sale. Once again this is a lovely place to sit in in a great location can’t fault the place at all. To all the staff keep up the good work and don’t be disheartened by people who complain I’m sure 99.9% of patrons are thoroughly thrilled. Thank you.

Very pleased with new set up with new decor , staff and menu.

I visited this place with my son today and had a nice meal. The service was excellent and the food and drink was lovely. It has a nice relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again.

This is a lovely little coffee shop with a friendly welcome and tasty snacks. We were please to find somewhere away from the crowds where we could sit down for a while and enjoy nice coffee. They also welcomed our little dog.

A charming tea room, with friendly service, just a little secluded from the hustle of the main street.The menu was not extensive but it was a perfectly fine selection and more importantly the food was excellent. Recommended!

Lovely food at very reasonable prices and great staff !

We had tomato soup, scrambled eggs on toast, and a pot of tea. The soup tasted like a can of tomatoes from a supermarket heated up in a microwave, with a touch of added garlic. The scrambled eggs should have been light and fluffy, instead they were hard and solid and the bowl they came in was cold. The bread that came with the soup looked like the cheapest possible supermarket bread, hold it at one end and it just bends down (you know what I mean). Finally, the tea was so weak that it was undrinkable. I should have sent the whole lot back, but I did not want to make my companion feel uneasy. I wondered why it was the only cafe in Hexham that was quiet at that time. Now I know. I thought 'they absolutely take no pride in their work'. I would have been embarrassed at serving this up to paying customers. I won't be back.

Tea was lovely, the scones were the best we have had in the UK this year and the jam was home made and delicious. The owner was charming

We visited in September when the cafe was quiet but we still can't understand why. It seems the local residents don't appreciate what a lovely cafe they have in their town.. The scones were the best we have tasted in England this year, the tea was delicious and to crown it all the jam was home made and absolutely perfect. In addition the owner was charming. Well done!!

Too loud, could do with some soft furnishings to make it more ‘chat’ friendly. Disappointing weak tea, scrimped on the offerings, had to ask for more milk, sugar and a tea bag! We were going to stay and eat but decided not to

An excellent stop when in Hexham. Only had coffees on this occasion but the menu and cakes looked good and reasonably priced. Inside and outside seating available and very friendly service.

Nice little coffee shop. Their sultana drops are a great biscuit, cross between shortbread and a cookie.

Nice quiet spot on way up from car park into town. Sheltered court yard area with flowers makes for nice lunch stop. Right next to the old Hexham gaol.

On a day out in Hexham, we called in for coffee after readings its Tripadvisor reviews We ordered two black Americano coffees. The coffee was served very fast and resembled nothing like an Americano, it was basically just weak filter coffee, like dish water. It was quickly poured down the drain as we were sitting outside and we went to Caffe Nero for a decent coffee. I want to support the smaller independent, but its no wonder people go to the chains to get a decent consistent coffee...Sadly very disappointed.

Good coffee, great cakes and menu. Good service, friendly staff. Staying in the appartment above for the week. We'll be trying out the breakfast menu tomorrow as they're closed on Sundays

Hidden away from the busy streets a quiet corner café with homemade food.

We stayed above The Garden Coffee house in Hexham in an apartment run by the lady Ailsa who also runs the Garden Coffee house, we stayed Friday to Friday from 28th May till the 4th June, it is a really lovely apartment and is in a great place for visiting attractions in the area, if you are looking for a place to stay in Northumberland I would recommend staying here.

It was a lovely summer day and we sat in their garden. One lady took the order,served us and we paid her at the end. Cakes were lovely, home made, humming bird cake, scones, shortbread. Nice frothy coffee

This is the first stop for my friend and I when visiting Hexham. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Great menu too. We always go for the cheese and bacon scones which are delicious. Would thoroughly recommend!

We stopped here for coffee and cakes while on a visit to the abbey, we were pleasantly surprised, the cakes and scones were nice, the staff friendly, and the place appeared welcoming.

Visited yesterday with our ten month old daughter and grandparents. It was late for a lunch visit (2.30pm) so some of the specials were already gone, which suggests they were dead popular! We had simple but good food (paninis, toasties, jacket spuds) at reasonable prices. The coffee and cake was lovely. Seemed to have a nice outdoor space with plenty of room, and saw at least one person out there with a dog so I'm assuming this area is dog-friendly. Really family friendly too with good high chairs, space for pushchairs and buggies, a selection of toys and books to entertain the littles and a clean baby changing unit (just ask the staff to access it as it is in the private area behind the counter). We found the staff were incredibly welcoming to our daughter which often makes a huge difference. Would visit again!

We had lunch here, 2 adults and a toddler. While the food was nice, for us, there are other places where you get more for your money. For example, we ordered a toasty for our toddler and it was 2 squares (so one slice of bread) a small cookie and 2 slices of cucumber; we thought this was a bit tight, especially when comparing to other local places. Same with the side salad that came with the sandwich, just looked a bit pitiful. Seems a bit nit picky but it’s our hard earned cash and there’s other places where it’s better value for money. We won’t be rushing back. It’s a good size for getting prams in.Staff were polite.

We called for drinks and ordeed a tea and coffee. "is that all?" yes thanks. Told they would bring it; but they didnt. After almost 15 minutes, fed up we walked out.

We regularly call here for lunch with my daughter and family.There’s a great selection of specials on the board or you can choose off the menu (which is large enough to have something for everyone!).Kids meals come with great little touches on the side and the added benefit of a toy corner has its advantages also.Staff are always friendly and careful dealing with hot beverages around little ones!

Good cup of tea and local dishes such as the corned beef make a change from standard café cuisine. Nice environment for kids and the elderly and convenient for the Old Gaol.

We always visit here when in Hexham, a couple of times a year. The staff are very friendly, the service is very good and the menu is ideal for lunch. The cafe is warm and welcoming and the coffee is excellent. Children are well-catered for with a selection of toys for them to borrow. The arrangement of the furniture makes it very easy to bring a pushchair in. Whenever we have been here there has been a wide range of customers, from toddlers to grandparents (and probably great-grandparents). There is always a selection of specials and a tempting array of cakes. This time, we opted for the bacon and stilton toastie - generous and delicious. I know we’ll be back and I thoroughly recommend it for morning coffee or lunch.

Stopped in at this cafe during a brief visit to Hexham on route home. We only had coffee on this occasion but the cakes looked very tempting.Friendly staff and nice peaceful surroundings. Enjoyed our brief visit and will certainly be back next time we are in Hecham. Cake will be on the menu!

Lovely food and friendly service

I have now visited The Garden Cafe a few times & have never been disappointed.The staff are always friendly and helpful, and service is always quick so I am able to meet up with my family or friends during my lunch break from work.I usually have jacket potato & salad with either beans or tuna or the soup and sandwich deal which is excellent value.They have a good childrens menu and a large selection of toys to keep younger one's entertained.There is indoor and outdoor seating.It has fast become my favourite place for lunch or even just a coffee in Hexham.

We chose this cafe because it was dog friendly and had good reviews. Oh dear how wrong can the reviews be. I wouldnt call it very dog friendly. You have to sit outside with a dog so not so good if it's raining. Poor menu choices....cold soup...poor salad that looks like it was out of the slips bin. Waiter put our cutlery direct onto the dirty outside table. Toilets are disgusting! I gave it 1 star for good coffee.
