We love the line caught haddock, Batter light and crispy not soggy. Chips great all properly cooked. Home made fishcakes with proper chunks of fish not potato and a hint of fish.

Excellent all round. We phoned our order in and asked for it to be delivered to Longhoughton.The order was 2 haddock and chips and mushy peas. The fish was huge beautifully cooked in lovely light batter and the chips were good old fashioned chippy chips.From the person on the telephone to the delivery driver wonderful customer service. All this including delivery £ 18.00.Now we have found this place we’ll definitely reorder.

Well priced fish and chips at £7.75.  Delivery was on time and left at the doorstep as we asked for. Can still taste the freshness even though it was delivered.

Just good fish. Good light batter. The chips were actually crispy. Great. As I said mushy peas a bit earthy. Bitter. Not quite right.

We had a fantastic dinner of fish and chips, and half a chicken which was also excellent. Probably the best chippy chips we've had in a long time. The take away half litres of gelato are out of this world. We had the pistachio and raspberry ripple and they were insanely good. Wish we lived nearer. Although I would be much fatter!

Excellent fish and chips, there's plenty of choice so you can find something for everyone, and would highly recommend getting a scoop or two of ice cream to complete the experience

Carlo's have totally perfected the Chip shop. What amazes us in all of the years we have eaten Carlo's Fish & Chips they have been brilliant every time consistently. You never get a greasy feeling after eating them & the portions are generous too. We've tried many others in the area over the years but none have come close, even among Seahouses many outlets. If you want fresh, tasty Fish & Chips there's only one 'Plaice' to go, 'Carlos'

Not the cheapest fish and chips we've eaten, but excellent value - could have done with one portion between us. Would recommend a visit - and the ice creams are fabulous too.

Had takeaway fish and chips from here and thoroughly enjoyed them. Fish is mostly locally sourced and caught and is very tasty with good portion sizes. Chips were still crisp when we got them back to the house as was the batter on the nicely cooked fish. Can certainly recommend this place and we will be back when in the area.

As a regular visitor to Carlos you always get a good product but the portion size can be a bit variable. Fish is usually done well and not too oily in the batter. Chips sometimes seem like they have been around a while and not as fresh on occasion

The best fish and chips I’ve ever had! I always worry about the quality of fish and chips but these are hands down the best I’ve had! The fish was thick and plenty of it and the chips weren’t like the fake oven chips. Really good chippy. AND they sell Kinder Ice Cream in tubs, I will be back tomorrow for these for my freezer!!

Pretty much as the title says. Food was nice enough, but the attitude of your counter staff and their inability to listen to basic requests spoilt our visit. Unfortunately for Carlos, it’s the latter that has let them down today and when you’re visiting somewhere and spending money, good customer service is as important as their food IMO. More so for the business than anything else.

The best Fish n Chips in Northumberland was the promise of an errant passer by as we searched for an eatery in an otherwise empty town of Alnwick. Presumably the consequence of eating out to help out we could not make a reservation to eat in so a take away it was. Assured that the passer by wasn’t on commission, and a short socially distance queue I order the stable British holiday diet of fish & chips with mushy peas. I also added lashing of curry sauce by way of a treat. A short 5 minute walk to my B&B (I’ll get the bottle of wine from Lidl later) and my ‘boxed’ meal remained hot and ready to face the taste test. The servings was more than ample and easily the best I’ve had in Northumberland; best ever, maybe not but I’d always ‘eat’ here

Popular, there was a queue. Takeaway-only due to Covid. Cod and chips: fish was fresh, flakey with crisp batter...great chips, crispy... best I've tried in the area.

Due to Boris's 'Eat Out to Help Out' policy coupled with Covid restrictions it can be difficult to find a restaurant that isn't fully booked. Therefore an alternative is to have a take away. Carlo's is a popular choice, with a queue outside. This is mainly due to their Covid-19 measures with social distancing waiting area once you have ordered. Was disappointed that they didn't have the vegetarian burger, but the cheese savoury was an acceptable alternative. The chips were lovely, although very greasy. Was also concerned that our order was automatically placed into a plastic bag. Covid-19 shouldn't be used as an excuse to return to single use plastics. The customer should be given a choice of whether or not they want a pointless plastic bag with their order.

We went here for fish and chips for dinner after visiting the gardens then came back after the castle for dessert.Man alive, best chips I have had in years, my partner had cod and chips, the portion size was unbelievable and quite well priced.The ice cream choice is fantastic and the best ice cream I’ve had for ages! I had Forerro and White Ripple Cookie Dough, could have had lots more!

Family take out. I had fish and chips and they made me ill. My daughter was OK. I think it must be the oil they cook it in that didn't agree with me, or the fish. Be prepared for a long wait too. Queuing outside.

There chips were perfect. Mushy peas large portion really is large! Fish portions are large and of excellent quality. Only criticism would be the long wait as it is so busy and they don't seem to have an online ordering system. So one person is tied up answering the phone and taking orders. This was the only food outlet open in Alnwick apart from a pub which was really crowded. So get there early!

Meet a visit to Alnwick, and as is customary, a trip was made to Carlo's Fish Bar. Due to Convid-19, much has changed in the way of service. Sitting is not allowed, and so a take away was all that was available. A maximum of four customers were allowed to enter at a time, with each customer acting as representative of any family or group that they're with, with their companions having to wait outside while the customer relayed their order, and once accomplished, the customer was directed to a designated spot for social distancing.The service was very professional, the food being served at a reasonable pace and without compromise of the food's quality. The young brunette lady who was acting as cashier was especially professional, being able to manage customers of whom were too slow in the uptake on what they can and can't do due to Covid-19 rules. I'll definitely be making a return trip at another point in the future.

What can I say a fantastic meal and made all the better by trusting us with a salt and vinegar. I know it was a small gesture but made the experience so much better.

Nice bit of fish with lovely light batter. A good selection of kids portions. Reasonably priced. I would make a point of going again the next time I’m in the town.

We had haddock,chips and mushy pies and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish, which was large in size, was cooked to perfection, so succulent . The crispy batter was perfect, not too much either. The chips were perfectly cooked too. Living in an area known for an abundance of great fish and chips, this was up there with the best! Definitely recommend, now going back for an ice cream.

Very friendly staff (same cant be said for idiot customer who could not social distance). Very clean inside and out and I am going to make the bold statement of....it was the BEST ice cream I have ever had! Will 100% visit again next time I am in the area

Wow perfect lockdown delivery. Piping hot crispy battered fish, fabulous chips and artisan ice cream delivered to your door, what’s not to like!

We ordered home delivery for 13th June 2020 1630 . 2 X Fish and chip a and 2 mushy peas . This was during pandemic . Ordered and payed for 12th June for today . Food arrived exactly 1630 . In a carrier bag . Fish and chips in individual 2 boxes red hot and fully fresh . Beautifully presented . We whacked them in oven for a couple of minutes while tea was brewing . Never had a fish and chips since lock down and thoroughly enjoyed our fish and chips delicious . Thank you management and staff at Carlos .

Just had take away fish and chips from Carlos at Alnwick which was gorgeous. We also had takeaway ice cream Ferrari Rocher, Biscotti and Kinder Bueno. The best ice cream we have ever eaten. We will definitely be back. Supporting our local businesses

Has the potential to better but unfortunately on this occasion batter was undercooked leaving fish a soggy mess rather than crispy as I would have expected. That said , I ate it all so it was certainly far from inedible. This fish itself was very nice. Chips were equally good. I got a takeaway but as there is a sit in at seemingly similar prices I’d be tempted to take advantage of that in the future. In short Carlo’s is worthwhile going to if Alnwick and if you are wanting fish n child, but probably nit worth going out if your way for.

five of is, two old uns, two young uns, and a 7 month old, called in for tea on a Tuesday night, the place was heaving , staff were flat outwe ordered our meals, expecting a wait, but no, five minutes and we had massive plates of Haddock and chips, sausage and chips, scampi and chips plus all the add ons, teas, coffee, juice, and all done with a smile Thank you Carlo's we will be back

We ordered four meals and all of which were lovely, tasty and you get good portion sizes. The prices were about ok, however the staff need to be a little bit more friendly, there wasn’t much personality in the shop and you do have to wait a long time as it’s cooked to order. Maybe ordering ahead would ease that problem.

Called today late lunch for fish and chips.The fish is lovely and tasty,chips tasty too,although bitty.As we agree with the comments regarding the food,I am surprised no one has made any comment on the grubbiness of the floors ( morsels of dropped food all over)cutlery and in particular the seating,which should be wiped of dropped food.We noticed bits of food at the back of the seating in the crevices and the condiments and menu were greasy.Unfortunately for us,we won't be going back,for this reason.

Stumbled across this gem by chance working up north, we were originally going to get a subway for lunch but thankfully saw this place last minute.Cod and chips were absolutely amazing, I'm not being dramatic when I say this was possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had! Also relatively good value for money as well!Will definitely be returning next time I'm up north (remember a £1 coin for the parking disc if you intend to park in the centre)

Huge portion, but...cod was thin and all batter, peas warm, no cutlery given. So mine was mostly uneatable, though my husband said his haddock was nice. I will not be returning.

I have frequently visited Carlos several times over the years, and there's a very good reason why this is. Carlos is easily one of the best fish and chip shops in the North East of England, if the not the best in Northumberland. The service is always very friendly and helpful, and the food is superb. Naturally, the nature of the food means its not very good if you're on a diet, but if such things are of no concern, then you're in for a real treat. The fishcakes this place servers isn't as nice as other venues, but the steak pie is definitely the star in this place, particularly when served by chips that are generous in their size and cooking. The gravy also adds a nice taste to both too. I will be visiting another time.

Excellent cod in the lightest of batter. Service good. We Sat in. The onion rings were nothing to write home about your usual frozen fare. They could make fab ones themselves using their lovely light batter.

On holiday in Alnwick and decided to call in to Carlos for fish and chips.They were first class freshly cooked to order fish and great chips.the only fault I had was I couldn't manage to finish them quite large portion of chips.

Welcoming. Food was good. Chips well cooked as was the fish, pie and chicken we had. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Called in on a day trip to Alnwick, the fish and chips were beautiful, the fish was massive and the batter was golden and crispy, would definitely recommend.

Visit this past week & quality, size of portions & service was first class. By the amount of locals visiting on both eat in & take away, it shows its a good place to eat!

Lovely fish and chips - great selection. Phoned in advance and it was ready when we got there. Lovely and fresh and home made tartar sauce. Would thoroughly recommend. There is seating too which was all busy when we went to collect.

We always eat at Carlo's when we're in Alnwick. There is seating up and downstairs and a good choice on the menu including some 'meal deals'. The food is always freshly cooked and served piping hot.

Ended up here after Lilburn's had to stop taking orders for food (it was a bit busy apparently). All dressed up with nowhere to go, Carlo's to the rescue. Haddock and chips - huge portion, extremely fresh and lightly cooked. Just perfect. Large pot of tea (my liver got the night off). Good value for money.

We bought two fish ,one portion of chips,and a pot of curry,and were charged £17.20 in the takeaway.We queried the price and was told by the young teenage assistant that the price was correct .Since the shop was very crowded we did not take it any further .When we ate the food the chips were poor and fish were mainly batter with minimal fish.This was so different to the excellent fish and chips we had in Pinnacles in Seahouses earlier in the week so it can be done.

We really enjoyed our meal there, eating in the quiet upstairs. Excellent quality of the Fish and Chips and large portions. Staff and service very good as well, and extremely good value for money. Easy parking outside.

Usually when we call here we are really happy with what we get but today was not like that. Having failed to get something elsewhere as they had sold out decided to just get chips from here for lunch. They were awful, think they had been sat for too long as they were floppy, quite greasy and at least a third of them undercooked.!

two visits in 2 weeks both times chips are undercooked fish good but chips have gone downhill cant go back till we know they have improved

Live just outside Alnwick and regularly visit Carlos in Alnwick and Morpeth. No complaints whatsoever, brilliant food.

Amazing haddock and chips which we ate in the shop. This was easily the most moist and beautiful fish I have ever eaten and the chips were fab too. :)

Some of the nicest fish and chips we have ever had are to be found here. The tasty fish is mostly locally sourced and can be traced back to the boat that caught it - quite unusual I would have thought. Batter is light and crisp as are the chips. Everything was freshly cooked when we visited and was piping hot when we ate it - even though we had a good few miles to travel with our takeaway. Will certainly be back and can recommend this place.

Came here twice during our week in Northumberland, both times on a Friday evening and we ate in. The place seemed very busy with a constant queue of people. There were however enough counter staff to cope and a slightly separate area to order if you wanted to eat in. Our food came prompty and was very tasty. The seating area let the score down as it wasn't getting tidied up immediately as customers left.

After having a busy day out my family and I decided fish and chips would do us nicely. We arrived At Carlo’s and were greeted by a very friendly lady. We ordered our fish and chips, hardly waiting any time at all. We then took our food back home. We weren’t disappointed! It was beautiful, the best fish and chips we’ve tasted in a very long time! The fish had even been skinned which meant you could eat all of it, even better!

Absolutely the best chips I've ever have. Had a carry out tonight I'm very hard to please but I must say these were the best chip I've ever had. Just like mama use to make. 10/10

Went at lunchtime and it's very busy 12.00 - 12.45 but got a table upstairs. Stairs are fairly steep and the treads narrow so a bit of an obstacle for some.

Called here last Friday late and even though it looked like they were cleaning up ready for closing they let us eat in at the tables and were very nice. OMG the fish was the biggest fish I ever seen, all 4 of us, also the nicest fish, batter and chips we ever tasted, shame we live so far away. If your visiting Alnwick you must eat here.

A nice place to have fish and chips and offers other options. Eat in or take away. Bad thing is that the prices on the wall are take away prices, you don't see the eat in prices until you get charged.

2 adult fish and chips and 2 kids meals eat in £30. Great food nice service. Kids loved it and so did we.

Simply fantastic, faultless fish and chips. Wonderful crispy batter with lovely flaky incredibly fresh fish and brilliant chips. Really good portion of delicious mushy peas as well. Staff are really helpful and friendly.

Called in here by chance on Tuesday night . A big statement but ... best fish ( haddock) iv ever had its simply delicious. Chips are good also. Quick friendly service . Clean. And the best food . I'm glad im only visiting or i would be a regular.

Every time am working around about Alnwick always go in my opinion best chippy around never had a bad word to say about them, spot on every time and always nice staff.

We are frequent visitors to the area and have always enjoyed fantastic fish and chips. We arrived in the area last Saturday and called for fish and chips around 8.30pm to be told there was no fish even though the shop was open until 10pm. There were several other disappointed people around including a family of American tourists looking forward to fish and chips. We enjoyed a wonderful week in the area and decided to end our stay last night (Friday) with a visit to Carlos. However we arrived around 8.30pm to again be told there was no fish. This was again disappointing as we so looked forward to our treat to end our stay. Hopefully this week is merely a blip.

The fish & chips were cooked on ordering - batter and fish especially wonderful and tasty. I sensibly ordered just the fish, which was huge, and had a few chips from my husband's plate

Well with a visit as we had takeaway at last minute and enjoyed by all the family, fish particularly was perfect and very fresh.

My family and I called here early evening and was not disappointed. I had cod , other members had haddock , while my daughter had fish bites. All were delicious, well presented with lots of tasty chips. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

My parents and I had been looking around different places for fish and chips and we came across Carlo's. It was pretty busy, which we took to be a good sign. Went inside sat down and ordered the special haddock. The portion sizes were very generous and the fish and chips were cooked very well.

We needed something to eat on Saturday night and wanted it quickly. My stepmum mentioned carlo's in Alnwick. I thought it sounded like a cheesy Italian restaurant, but far from it. They served us quickly and efficiently with lovely cod and chips twice and a portion of haddock. Very enjoyable, and nice chunky chips too.

After reading so many good reviews, I felt I had to try Carlo's Fish & Chips. Everything was absolutely yummy,the Curry Sauce was full of flavour.The fish was the best fish I've tasted and the Chips was really delicious.

Decided on a takeaway instead of sit in, but the place looked clean and the tables were cleaned off quite efficiently. Ordered 1 large cod/chips, 1 small cod/chips and mushy peas. All was cooked to order. The smaller portion was just right for me as I usually leave a mound of chips and the batter behind - but this one was the perfect portion size and I ate everything! The fish was white, fresh and flaky; the batter wasn't too heavy and lovely and crunchy. Chips were decent sized (not too thin) and were not greasy. All at a very reasonable price. Going back there soon!

Fabulous food. Cooked to order if you're eating in too. Portions are very generous and I tried my best to eat it all but had to give in. My hubby enjoyed the haddock special, beautifully presented on a fish shaped plate, enormous potion. He agreed, possibly the best haddock he's ever had. Would definitely recommend. The fish & chips was so good that we visited 2 evening in a week. We had to wait for a table on the first occasion but well worth it.

Fantastic fish supper, freshly made to order and the chips were great, and what a portion. Great friendly service, we’ll be back.

We came across Carlos on a family break a number of years ago and were so glad we could fit in a return visit as we returned to the area. The fish and chips were even better than we remembered. Great tasting reasonably priced food & friendly staff.
