Fantastic Northumberland food pub with locally sourced ingredients. A superb selection of seasonal dishes from local suppliers. Game and meat cooked on open air BBQ for a smoky flavour. Excellent quality, flavour and service. Dishes paired with good wine menu and in-house digestifs for dessert. Great location in the Tyne valley, friendly staff and cosy rooms. Would highly recommend a visit.

My goodness what a find. Friends were staying locally and we had lunch. My friend's husband has an allergy to garlic. Nothing was too much trouble. He had crown of duck and his wife and I had a shared platter of game. Plus a rare pudding for me, Burnt Northumberland cream and cinnamon roll bread and butter pudding for friend's husband. The atmosphere was friendly, as we're the staff. The food was cooked outside so it took the time for the dishes to be cooked to perfection. It is a place to get excellent quality food at a reason price. Not you cheap and cheerful pub grub. What a treat.

Wow! Absolutely loved it here everything from the welcoming staff, the lovely feeling of being in a smart, well run inn and then a menu from which I’d happily have eaten any of the dishes We were really spoilt for choice. I I went for the roast as it was Sunday - absolutely device. I struggled to finish which is always a good sign. My son had the lobster. Great to have both as a choice on a Sunday lunchtime! Special shout out for the desserts - the apple crumble and plum and almond tart. Also appreciated the sweet wine and sherry suggestions We will definitely be back - thrilled to have discovered somewhere so brilliant a short hop over from Newcastle

A friend recommended this pub to us. We were not disappointed. The welcome was warm. The menu was eclectic. We had delicious vegan food and tuna for starters. Then tender steak and venison hot dog for mains. Also yummy heritage tomatoes and pasta. Some of us had cheese and chocolate tart for pudding. Some of us were full but sorely tempted by the homemade sorbet... we'll definitely be back.

Went to the Feathers yesterday for some lunch. My partner ordered the fish and chips, took one bite, and told me that it was off. Trying it myself, it tasted strongly metallic and was clearly not right. After telling the staff, it was taken without an apology and so we decided to leave after I had finished my admittedly nice hotdog. When the bill came, the fish and chips had been rightly removed, but they still had the cheek to add a gratuity! This was promptly removed at our request. We eat out regularly and always try to be understanding when things go wrong. However, there was a distinctly not-bothered attitude here, and the cheek to still expect us to pay a gratuity. We won't be returning.

As a family we eat out a lot and have tried many places across the North East in a seemingly never ending search for the perfect Sunday lunch. Well…I think we may finally have found it! The Feathers is an old-worldly style pub which is cosy and full of character. The Sunday lunch menu consists of numerous starters/sharing boards, two roasts (beef and pork on our visit) and a couple of fish/veggie options along with lots of tempting desserts. We didn’t opt for starters on this occasion but will do next time. My husband and I had the beef which was perfectly pink and flavoured with a beautiful smokiness (presumably from the outdoor fire pit.) My children opted for the pork; half portions are available upon request and were generous in size. We did notice that the pork didn’t come with Yorkshire puds as standard but the lovely waitress said she would ask the chef to include them, which he did. The pork was even better than the beef! It was melt in the mouth and had a slightly salty, Smokey flavour. My children aren’t usually that keen on pork but proclaimed it was the best they’ve ever eaten! The lunches came with lots of veg and sides of cauliflower cheese- all delicious and plentiful. Desserts also didn’t disappoint. I got the pear and almond tart, which was as light as a feather and we also enjoyed a perfectly moist, fudge brownie, sticky bread and butter pudding and delicious rhubarb ripple ice cream. The food was all fresh and of excellent quality. If you’re looking for a traditional pub style Sunday lunch then I don’t think you can go past the Feathers. Looking forward to returning again soon.

Having read many reviews in the past, we eventually booked for Sunday lunch. On arrival, the staff showed us to our table in the smaller of the rooms in this traditionally laid out pub. The drinks order was taken and delivered quickly. We decided to go straight for the main course choosing the Haydon Bridge beef. The food arrived son after, and the beef was so succulent and tasty. The vegetables were plentiful and also very tasty. The only minor niggle was the vegetables could have been hotter but it did not prevent us from enjoying them. My wife chose the apple crumble, which she commented was probably the best she had eaten. I chose the rhubarb tart, which was very tasty. An enjoyable experience all round.

My wife and I along with 4 friends arranged to meet for lunch and once again the food at the Feathers was first rate. A cosy atmosphere with locally sourced produce cooked wonderfully. The service was great and we were well looked after. The only downside for me was there wasn't any offal on the menu I'd had previously, but I suppose it's not for everybody. However, the venison was cooked to perfection and my compliments to the chef. We also discovered a gorgeous red wine no one had come across before. A seriously good day had thanks to the Feathers and their staff.

Booked this pretty looking pub for Sunday lunch. Reviews were stunning and the sample menu read well. It was fine. Food was fine. Veg was a little tired late on a Sunday afternoon. Cauliflower cheese was delicious. Apple crumble was also very good. For me there was plenty to eat I didn’t finish it. Over riding impression is it’s scruffy. From the decor to the very friendly staff. I didn’t really want to try the loos. Shame. We had a lovely chat and a really nice time - so at least the food and the service etc was good enough to permit that.

Journeyed there on what turned out to be a 1 lane country lane to get from Ebchester, dreaded meeting an oncoming tractor. Arrived just for a drink to find all tables bar one a tiny corner table, booked out for meals, meals of course they are famous for. Had excellent pint of Westons cider from the barrel. Alternative seating was outside in the cold wind where the Beer Fest was, but, you had to come inside to order real ale that was outside.

Behind what looks like an ordinary pub in a small and attractive village there is some pretty good cooking going on. Alongside standard pub classics, the specials menu has some choices that are a big cut above the ordinary. On our two visits we had pheasant and then venison loin. The former was good, but the venison exceptional. Very well cooked pink, well presented, very good sauce and vegetables, followed by a good desert. Good choices, good cooking and a pleasant and snug pub. Very well kept beers too. Good, friendly and efficient staff.

Really enjoyed our visit here. The food was excellent and the service really good. Parking was a little confusing as it's not signposted (that I could see) - you can park on the road or there's very limited parking just to the left as you turn into the pub's grounds. As we have a dog, I don’t bother engaging with non-dog friendly places, that way I avoid disappointment. This place is supposed to be dog friendly, mentioned multiple times in reviews so I made an online booking for Friday evening, and mentioned in the comments that would have our dog with us. On their webpage it says ‘We have limited inside space but allow one dog per table in the bar area.’ This is what I received back from them: ‘Hello, unfortunately we aren’t able to accommodate bookings with dogs on a Friday evening as we reserve the bar area ( where we allow dogs) for drinkers. We apologise for any inconvenience.’ Are they dog friendly or aren’t they? Make it one or the other please, or state on your website if you’re only dog friendly on certain days. Ridiculous.

This is a deservedly popular pub. We had Sunday lunch here with my elderly father and daughter and her partner. Despite arriving rather late due to traffic (we phoned to warn them of this) we had a lovely welcome which was enhanced by the warming fires. Service was friendly and very efficient. I would love to give this 5 stars all round but despite being one of the best Sunday lunches taste and quality wise, it was let down by being on the cool side. The quality and flavour was however most excellent and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

The staff are amazing and the pub is awesome. But the food really is not good for the price. We had the black pudding starter which is the best we had. But that was it. The mains really were not good. We had duck which was raw (not pink, but raw and couldn't eat it). The honey roast ham was very dry and potatoes had been reheated and tasted as such.

Beautiful food. I started with pickled North Sea herring with potato salad and a sweet mustard cucumber relish. My friend had the green lentil soup with nduja, this was packed full of flavour. For the main I had roast load pheasant, bread sauce, chipolatas, chestnuts, dripping roasties and bacon. Cooked over the fire pit gave the whole dish a gentle smoked flavour which was nicely balanced with the flavour of the ingredients. I would thoroughly recommend eating here

We had promised some friends a remarkable experience at The Feathers (they having had our reports of it for a couple of years) and, my word, it came upto expectations! A warming fire on a chilly October day, a welcoming bar and very very good food. The fish and chips were declared excellent, my wife's charcuterie board was admitted to be extremely good and leaving space for pud and my steak suet pudding was out of this world. We managed to accommodate desserts but did not get as far as coffee. Excellent choice of wines and gins. Very clearly value for money. And we were allowed to park in the open area opposite the front door as my wife struggles with the slope outside. We will be back!

This is a clear cut establishment that has a no nonsense approach. A drinking den cushioned with as much local food as one wants. The staff are warming and helpful as they guide you through pre food drinks and leave you to read the vast choice on the menu. We took Sunday lunch in the late afternoon. Very relaxed and informal service but not slow . We started with the Selection of Homemade Charcuterie, what a generous board of the chefs skill and his interpretation of local products, a great punchy celeriac on a remoulade , crusty Sourdough slices with venison salami , ham hock terrine, a game version , some liver parfait and smooth creamy pork rillettes, all scattered with a few pickled gherkins. Tremendous kitchen skills all thoroughly enjoyed. Main plates were just as outstanding, roast loin of local pork, moist, crackling , apple on the side , and a little stuffing. Beef well rested , just as good and a 5 star horseradish, ( been many’s a year since I seen it as good as this one) . A whole turbot cooked to perfection, All dishes eager to be crowned the best of the show . The vegetable selection was also impressive, tasty fresh and plentiful. The crusty Sticky toffee pudding is also showcasing this houses talents . Fine selection of wines , even some eau de vie variants , educational for some , maybe too potent for others. This Place would shame country house , Pretentious establishments. Simply the best complete package we’ve encountered in years . Thank you to all for the enjoyment .

It wasn't bad but it was definitely overpriced and overrated. Last Sunday we had lunch at a 'non-gastro pub' and it was as good as it could have been. Today's event was, by comparison, very average; yet far more expensive. For a self-described 'gastro-pub' you'd expect things to be above the average of a 'pub'. The roast beef was nice enough but there wasn't much of it and there wasn't nearly enough gravy. Normally, at a pub lunch, you get asked "would you like any sauces or anything else"? At this point I always say "some extra gravy wouldn't go amiss". They then bring out a boat of gravy and all is well. That didn't happen here. There was no checking on whether we were happy with the meal or not. No checking on whether or not we needed anything. To be fair, two of the three 'waiters' struck me as being little other than school-age teens working their Sunday away rather than revising. The cabbage was undercooked and the potatoes were as hard as river pebbles. Not great. The beer was nice enough but we were charged for a lemonade and lime that we never ordered or had. They removed it from the bill after we mentioned it but still, the bill was fifty pounds for one beef lunch, one veggie lunch, a beer and a soda water. No starters, desserts or coffees or anything. It's a lovely location and a nice day for it but we won't be back.

We spotted these "pop-overs" from the main road and thought we might have lunch after our cycle event. We like our food. We had the beef. Not a lot of it came on the plate, one roast spud and a spoon of mash turnip, and the side veg came in two small breakfast cereal size bowls. We assumed the veg was for one and expected 2 more pairs of bowls. They didn't come. Disappointing because the meal was nice flavour and well presented. What would one person alone have been presented with veg-wise??

TL:DR. Overpriced, below average food, friendly staff, no parking. We visited based on the good reviews, and left disapointed. The staff were friendly. This would have been fine for a causal pub or a bbq/burger/pizza venue. The website had example and daily menus, though wasn't up to date with the daily menu 2 weeks out of date. So the menu on arrival was different. Some items were the same, but more expensive on the served menu than online (fish and chips £3 more than online listing). The food prices and menu items set expectations for good quality gastro pub dining as advertised. This bar was far from met. The fish was good, the chips were poor in quality and quantity. The stuffed aubergine was fine, but nothing special, with only one half aubergine and a quantity of what tasted like low quality microwave packet rice. Again poor quality and quantity for the price. The venue had old country pub vibes, the staff had casual pop up burger /pizza vibes, and the menu/food had over ambitious chef that couldn't deliver vibes. But all priced at the higher end of what should be a refined and well balanced gastro pub. I've had better food in better quantities for less money at nicer venues at almost every other restaurant that self identified as a gastro pub that I've visited. And there is no parking so you need to park on the road in the village, with a sign outside asking you to park down the road, a walk from the pub. Would not recommend and will not return.

We have been coming to The Feathers for years & years. Never disappointed, first class service, wines & food especially. We booked this evening, having not been for a while because of illness. We were shown to a choice of tables in the restaurant area to the right of the bar. Still looked the same, wonderful, but!! The smell of smoke was dreadful! We noticed that there was an outside cooking area beyond the window, never there in the past. We decided to have a drink in the bar to the left of the entrance to see if the smokey smell dispersed. Unfortunately it did not, so with great regret & disappointment we decided to cancel our booking & leave. We are extremely upset, we love The Feathers but regrettably could not face eating in a smokey atmosphere. Hopefully we'll be back & try again. So sad!😢

At a time when so many pubs are serving the same standard pub fayre at ever rising prices, it's wonderful to find somewhere that offers something a bit different and, given the quality, is comparably such good value. It's also one of few places that don't make you talk over piped music, which we really appreciated having a hearing aid wearer in our party. The lamb we had could be cut with a fork, it was so tender and we were still talking about what we ate the following day, it was all so good. Three of us had the roast lamb whilst I opted for the Cumberland sausage. The Meal sizes were just right to allow space for the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever tasted. You can always tell when you get super food like this, the menu is small and the taste is great. Not as cheap as a British Pub grub menu but well worth paying that little extra. We travelled 25 miles to have a Sunday lunch here as the reviews were so good and I’ve previously been (last year). 19 pounds for a Sunday dinner. I had the beef that was pink and nice but only 3 small slivers, my partner had the pork (one medium slice) it was dry and he did not enjoy it. We had 3 very small sides between us. The beef dripping potatoes were dry, gravy was watery, poor effort over all. We literally sat down for 4 minutes and our dinner was out. We felt rushed out (35 minutes in total) The worst part was that the waitress violently coughed throughout our meal at a meter’s distance. We did complain and we were informed that she was going home sick. Why not go in the staff room? Completely off putting so my partner couldn’t eat. They did remove the cost of one meal but overall, throughly disappointing.

First time eating here and will be coming back again and again. Lovely cosy atmosphere, amazing food, great service and a lovely friendly feel makes it one for recommendations list. Had the steak cooked over the fire and it was cooked absolutely superbly. Best part about it (other than all of the above!) was the blackboard showing where all of their ingredients are sourced from. All local. Top notch. Cannot recommend it enough.

Fab meal here. Everything from the bar snacks all the way through to desert was spot on. It's not a cheap evening out, but I don't mind paying for good quality food. Only criticism would be the lack of vegetarian options. At least 2 would have been decent. The others said the duck leg and black pudding were particularly special. The deserts were all delicious

Lovely quaint old building in a small village. Cosy inside with lots of outdoor seating. Traditional menu, and everything was really nice. Could do with more couple more veggy options, but the ones we got were pretty good.

We loved our meal here. Friendly and helpful service and delicious tasty food. It was quite busy while we were there but service was still prompt. I would recommend booking. We ate inside and the tables were comfortably spaced. Excellent value for money.

Small and cosy pub that serves good meals with a good choice. They have a outdoor covered seating area where they cooked pizza.

The stars aligned and we finally got to use our winning voucher for The Feathers Inn, Hedley on the Hill and the food did not disappoint: vegan mezza to start, curried lamb, beef and my husband yet again chose the better dessert - cherry and almond tart as he mostly always does! Would go again!

What a very good meal we enjoyed last night at this pub. The salmon dish was excellent. Three separate eating areas and very pleasant staff. We’ll be back!

Four of us for dinner. Great starters, mains and dessert... Couldn't fault it at all. And all for a reasonable price. The guest beer was top notch too..

Popular pub with great food, decent atmosphere and big with car nuts. Wasn't there on a car day, but a good pub with pleasant staff/owner.
